      Hi Dr. I had physical therapy last year in South Korea. I have knee tendonitis and a baker's cyst. I had heat and tens therapy. The pads were a bit different, they were more like suction cups instead of the peel off that you show on the video. Anyway I'm back in the States and my knee is hurting again. Do you recommend this machine or an ultrasound one? Thanks

      If you are looking more for pain relief, a TENS would probably be better.

    Thank you! My Pain Management Dr recommend a TENS unit to me. I got mine a couple days ago and it’s been “ok-good”. I read the instruction booklet. Nowhere did it mention the cross-cross placement. I’m treating chronic low back pain, and when my husband crisscrossed them on my back for me today it made SUCH a difference! It is now a solid good+ for helping me manage my pain.

I am a teenage girl and am abt to see a pain management dr if my pain persists- I have had surgery. TENS may be an option. Do you still use it and does it relieve your pain? Is it comfortable? Good luck xx

    I use the TENS 7000 for pain relief because I do EXTREMELY well with pain meds, which turns into addiction REAL QUICK! Be very careful with opiate pain meds because they can make ANYONE dependent upon them and then eventually addicted to them so when you stop taking, you get very sick and makes anxiety levels go through the roof. Took me over 7 years to get clean from an addiction that started from an injury. Be safe and God Bless!

    • @jacket5456
      @jacket5456 10 месяцев назад +1

      Same, I'm an addict. I was worried, with my new found back pain, I would have to start taking Kratom again. This is helping massively and I've only been using it for 5 minutes.

    • @traveledwoman5340
      @traveledwoman5340 3 месяца назад +2

      Not true that opioid pain meds can turn ANYONE into an addict! That's bad press for safe opioid use and sometimes they are necessary to treat certain conditions that are excruciatingly painful like bone infections (called osteomyelitis or chronic osteomyelitis). I was on a strong opioid for 7 years and NEVER became addicted, never exhibited 'drug seeking' behaviors, always took the lowest possible dose I could to manage the pain but I always hated the feeling of being on the drug; and I successfully got off the medication myself. Kindly do not generalize. Your experience is NOT everyone's experience and everyone needs to be closely monitored by ONE doctor prescribing the medication. Safe opioid use is not only possible, but necessary and life-saving in cases of excruciating pain!

    Just start using my wife’s unit that she had in a drawer. This is awesome. It relaxes me. First night I used it on my back I woke up feeling great. I usually only use it for 15 minuets sessions. But it’s great. Didn’t know it shouldn’t contradict the muscle, but to only lightly vibrate it.

    Amazon sells these devices. I recommended it because they really do help. I bought one of these machines after my dad went to physical therapy, and they used one of these on him. And he had bought a machine like this. Name a few days ago was going to give out on me. I couldn't go up or down the stairs appointment on it needs support but it was still hurting. But after trying my dad's machine it really helped. So I went and on Amazon and bought one of these machines and it really helped. So I do recommend it.

    Last weekend I ended up riding to the ED in an ambulance. I just turned 70 last month, and have Parkinson's and RA. When I got up from a nap my right hand wouldn't work properly. No pain anywhere, and shoulder worked, elbow worked, but the wrist...
    With palm up, I could bend my hand up and down at the wrist. With palm down, I can't move it up.
    I was diagnosed with Radial Nerve Palsy, was given a wrist brace and a steroid shot, and left with a Rx for a Prednisone Z-Pack. I started on Saturday and finished yesterday on Thursday.
    I happened to have an appointment with the RA doc on Monday, and she said I needed a Nerve Induction Test, generally administered by a Neurologist. (Well, I happen to have one of those.)
    Well, the doctor never got back to me on MON, TUES, WED, or THU, so last night (THU) I started messing around with my NexWave TENS (having found it in the corner in the dark).
    Not sure where to locate the pads, or what mode to use, I chose 4 pads, two above and two below my wrist on both the top and bottom of the hand/arm. Then I chose NMES only because both the IFC and TENS modes appeared to be for pain relief. (For some reason, I was hesitant to move to my elbow.)
    So, I'm not sure what to do here. Am I using the proper mode? Is it in the correct location? How often should I use it, if at all? Should I try to get to PT first?
    I'm afraid that whatever I choose, I will somehow cause a delay in the healing and the symptoms will not go away.
    I may be getting a little old, but I've gotten used to having 2 fully functional hands.
    What say you?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  3 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately, I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you. Everyone is different. If there is any way you can see a physical therapist in person, they should be able to help you figure out a specific program for you and help answer your questions.

      USING OPIODS MASKS THE PAIN AND YOU REALLY CANT TELL IF THE TENS MACHINE OR ESPECIALLY YOUR EXERCISES ARE HELPING YOU OR NOT. I ENDED UP HAVING BACK SURGERY BUT A YEAR BEFORE THAT HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO STOP 90% OF THE PAIN WITH REGULAR BACK EXERCISES. IT TAKES TIME BUT THEY WORK. 16 YEARS AFTER MY BACK SURGERY I HAVE NOT HAD ANY BACK PROBLEMS AT ALL. I ADMIT I HAVE TO WATCH WHAT I AM DOING AND STRENGTHENING MY BACK AND CORE WAS PARAMOUNT. AND I REALIZE THAT SOMETIMES PAIN MEDS ARE NECESSARY BUT TRY TO NOT RELY ON THEM. GOOD LUCK TO ALL

I went in for an MRI and luckily no tear was found but the joints are very painful. I can’t raise my right arm or even reach out or across. I remember I had this TENS unit under my bed all these years and I just broke it out and plugged it in. Getting an appointment for PT is ridiculous here in the Bay Area. Next appointment was 4 weeks out. Screw that I’ll try to use the TENS unit for rehab and crossing my fingers it will help me out.

    I was told in the hospital where I got it that so set the normal number for my chronic pains, I should keep raising the number until I feel the little feeling like ants walking on my skin. Any number is it, I should triple it.
    For example. If I feel it on 12, I have to raise it to 36. And sometimes it's too strong to handle.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  5 лет назад +2

      No, it should always be strong but tolerable. The number is dependent on your tolerance (and it can change each time).

    I have been told by a doctor and after xrays that my aging left knee has bone on bone, but a chiropractor on youtube said if you can bend your knee, it is not bone on bone. Still, he did not offer a treatment and so I have endured pain for over two years. Recently I received another important RUclips tip, that when you have a deficient knee, the opposite (right) hip deteriates due to the extra work it must do due to the inability of the left knee to function and balance the weight on the body. I am starting a TENS Stimulation Unit to manage my pain and enjoyed your exact explanation on how to use it. I believe the knee procedure you offered was very accurate and I am hoping for relief so I will have better mobility. Would that work also on the right hip? Thank you for your input.

      if you clean the skin before use and store them properly you can use them quite a few times! the skin oils and exposure to air are what make them lose their sticky

    I use it about 15 minutes before and after running on my ankles for stimulation of the area that makes my ankles stronger.

      TENS is not an muscle stimulator
      It's doesn't strengthen your weak ankle muscles

    Hi Dr.Jo, thank you for your video. I just purchased a unit that has 4 ports. 2 can be configured for TENS and 2 for EMS simultaneously. So I have lots of options for simultaneous muscle groups. My main purpose TENS is pain relief for an L3 extricated hernia and EMS for legs, abs and arms during my long inactivity process.
    My question is, what combination TENS - EMS muscle groups would you recommend simultaneosly. And more importantly how long should I use for each function on a daily basis. I have options from 10 to 90 minute sessions.
    Many thanks in advance for your shared experience.

    Hey Dr. I suffer from neuropathy in my feet and legs this is the kind of thing that I should be using to help stimulate circulation? Oh disrupt the is due to back problems lower back problems in particular.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  2 года назад +1

      TENS can sometimes help with neuropathy type symptoms. It just depends on how severe it is and what specifically is causing it.

      I have ordered one up and it has a 30 day return policy on it do you think I could expect any kind of relief or changes in that timeframe? And what would you recommend as far as how often it should be done? Thank you for your reply!

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  2 года назад +1

      You're welcome! That's usually enough time to know if it's going to help. TENS can be used 3-5 times a day.
