  • The sacroiliac joint, or SI joint, is a common, but often overlooked, cause of lower back pain, sciatica pain, and SI joint pain.
    * Links discussed in video are found below. Click "SHOW MORE" *
When not properly diagnosed SI joint dysfunction or SI joint instability can lead to frustrating results from traditional treatment for these common conditions (low back pain, sciatica, hip pain, pelvic region pain, etc).
Links for products noted in this video (affiliate link):
    * Serola Sacroiliac Belt: amzn.to/3hkiIjh
    * Ligaplex I (Standard Process): amzn.to/3hiQ5D2
The sacroiliac joint does not have to be an option of last resort when trying to figure out your back pain or sciatic symptoms. With a proper understanding of the SI joint anatomy, some clues as to how the sacroiliac joint gets injured, and some ideas on what can be done to help heal the SI joint, you stand a greater chance of resolution of your pain.
As always, it is important to work side-by-side with your medical professional to determine the exact cause of your pain and be guided on a course of care. However, in my private practice I find that all too often the SI joint and SI joint dysfunction, most commonly SI joint instability, is an overlooked cause of pelvic region pain and back pain.
And many times patients will go to a chiropractor who does a chiropractic adjustment over and over and over again with nothing but transient results. Chiropractic adjustments when properly performed on joints that are fixated / stuck versus unstable have powerful positive benefits. However, manual chiropractic adjustments done to a joint that has instability does not provide lasting pain relief and in some cases can make the pain worse. Proper diagnosis is vital.
There are ways for a chiropractor to "adjust" a sacroiliac joint that has some instability, if it appears necessary. These are low-force chiropractic techniques like Activator Methods and Thompson Drop technique, both of which utilize a specialized instrument to provide a gentle adjustment to the joint.
Also addressed are the classic presentation of SI joint pain. We delve into the case of a dancer who hurt herself sledding. Her SI joint instability responded rapidly and completely when we got her a trochanteric belt / SI belt (amzn.to/3hkiIjh) to help improve stability across her sacroiliac joints and which allowed her sacroiliac ligaments to heal. In cases where someone has SI joint instability a trochanteric belt can be key.
If you are suffering with back pain, pelvic region pain, or sciatica and can't seem to find a lasting solution, you may have SI joint instability. This video will help you understand more about SI joint pain and sacroiliac joint instability. Working closely with your health care providers, armed with knowledge, you can find a solution. I hope this video helps you find the relief you deserve soon.

Hi! also here is what saved me, I suffered with sciatica for 3 years, and I had tried everything, ( i am 58 yrs old) it would literally take me 15 minutes to figure out how to get out of bed! it was so painful! ...So my daughter came home from college and i asked her to put the memory foam mattress she used at college on my bed and this is going to sound nuts but after just napping on it once i could tell i felt a little better! and then going forward each time i slept on it, it got easier to get out of bed and after 2 weeks my sciatica was basically gone! I have not been back to the Dr. to get any more cortisone shots since! And I am not selling a product because as you can see, i have not named the product other than that it was memory foam. So sometimes it can be as dumb as changing a little something in your life like this pad!
also i had a meniscus problem in my knee because i had been compensating with my knees to bend to pick things up. ....On another day i was telling a friend about my past back problems and how the pad fixed me and she asked if i wear flip flops, and i said yes! i live in them in the summer! and a light bulb went off in my head because it suddenly occured to me that every time i started wearing flip flops my back would start to feel bad, ....so then....because our phones are listening, i get and add for these flip flops with and arch support which of course i then ordered!... and this is equally nuts but i had a bump by my knee almost the size of a half walnut, and this is no joke, after 24 hours the pain was gone and 72 hours the bump was gone! And my son said to me, mom if i did not see that with my own eyes i would not believe you! But the bump was there for 3 months and he saw it go away in 3 days! and i had been seeing a doctor for it and nothing was working! ...except those flip flops!
so try simple changes like these too!!! It made all the difference for me!

In 1982 had a chiropractor tear me apart. I could barely walk for 2 weeks. No other chiro could help. Activator didnt help. 39 years of pain mostly 24/7 and limping.... Chiropractors are clueless.
3 yrs ago i stumbled on THIS YT video selling this belt.(see my 3 yr old post)
    MIRACLE.
    TOOK 4 MONTHS to heal.
Pain comes back if im without a belt for 3 weeks, them i go back to belt. My work, i walk 3-7 miles per day, and fo a lot of lifting and climbing... great exercise😁 No pain. Cant stand in one spot longer than 10 minutes.
    Amazing to be pain free.

These injections are amazing. I broke my back during the Gulf War in 1991 but docs said it was muscle and gave me Motrin to take 800 mg four times daily as I could not stand up straight. No X-rays, etc. I lived with the pain sev more years on active duty and retired with over 20 years seven years later still in pain. After retiring, pain got worse. After many VA doctors and two civilian docs, one doc said I needed back surgery which was supposed to be easy and be over in three hours. When in surgery the Neurosurgeon found many things that didn’t show on bone scans, MRI’s and CT Scans. This was 15 years after initial break. The surgery lasted 8.5 hours and the surgeon couldn’t understand why I wasn’t paralyzed and how I dealt with the pain. I had 8 rods/screws put in my low back. The pain was worse after surgery. Bone scans showed I had broke my left hip which I didn’t know. Years go by in bad pain. I was hurting in my hips, groin, and low back. I got two SI Injections which took 10 minutes. Within two days, no hip pain or low back pain was minimal. So far after 5 days my sciatic pain is still there but time can tell. I recommend SI Injections. Not painful at all but relief is tremendous.

In the UK here. Dealing with on and off “back” problems for over 10 years. Had MRIs, xray, physio, facet joint injections, the works. Go for periods of painlessness and feel strong. It never lasts. How is it that none of the people I’ve ever seen have actually sat and explained anything to me like this. Your example was exactly how it’s been for me, I’m always checking myself and nervous to enter situations where I might suffer a debilitating flare up. I’ll be going through your physio video, but also take your advice and get a good doctor on my case and see if I can finally get sorted! Thank you.

Two days of wearing the SI joint belt and I have for the first time experienced no pain standing or driving, better sleep, less muscle tension in back, hips and legs. You have described to a tee everything that I have been experiencing for the last 3 years while doctors kept telling me there was nothing wrong with me and chiropractor, massage, accupuncture provided temporary relief. Without going into the details of my entire 3 year saga, I just can't believe that no one ever mentioned this belt to me, though I always pointed to the exact spot between lower back and buttocks to every single health practitioner. So, thank you. I am quite sure that I have SI joint instability which now begs the question:
    1) can I do stretching and strengthening exercises with the belt on, or should I even continue exercising while wearing the belt? Is it better to take a couple of weeks and let the belt alone hopefully allow for area to heal?
    2) Which stretching exercises release tension in lower back, buttocks and hips, but do not worsen frayed or loose SI ligaments?
    3) Which glute strengthening exercises do not irritate sciatic nerve causing more muscle tension and pain in area, creating a need for more stretching in what seems like an endless loop, while possibly worsening the SI instability?
    Much gratitude 🙏

@@talenthunt750 I am still figuring it out. There are a few theories in my case. One that the back pain while standing seems to be caused by back muscles tightening, taking over for weak core muscles, causing an exaggerated curve of lower back. Belt eases the pain so that back muscles don't need to work so hard to keep me standing. But seems like, at least in my case, no other way out but to strengthen glutes and core muscles. Must be correct exercises so that back doesn't tighten even more, i.e. only exercises that keep back fully touching the floor, not tightening back more. Also practicing tucking in the the tail bone while standing and engaging core muscles. Hope this helps you. If not, keep searching and listening to your body.

That's how I came across your website and after watching a video about SI problems I knew "This is what's wrong with me"! I immediately ordered the SEROLA belt and started the exercises and felt that this was correct! Good video. So to be clear, there is a difference between the sacrum/pelvis being out of alignment vs. the si joints being stretched too much. Both present similiarly but they have different treatments. First you have to see if your pelvis is out of alignment, then stabilize it, and hold in place with the belt and stability exercises. However, if you have overstretched the ligaments, which can happen thru vigorous exercise, dance, not necessarily trauma, then the key is to rest, use ice, and use the serola belt. When the pain stops, then you can start the strengthening exercises. I love my serola belt and it helps bring more awareness to movement in that area. It has taken me years to figure all this out...hope it helps someone.

The girl that does my Fashah Massage said that she doesn’t believe it’s my sciatic, but it was my sacroiliac joint. She recommended I go to a chiropractor. I was terrified of going to a chiropractor, because I don’t like things that pop, especially on me. He introduced me to the drop table, and on the very first visit I was able to walk again without the pain. I’ve gone to him about five times so far in the last month, but each time I can go longer without having to go see him again. I’m on day seven and I feel terrific. I truly believe this is helping. And I can only pray that in time. I’ll be able to do strengthening exercises and won’t need to go to the chiropractor. just to be able to walk to the car without crying or be able to make my own bed or do laundry or do dishes is truly a blessing. Bnd like he said, ONE time sitting wrong, ONE time bending over wrong, etc. And I’m back to square one. Pain is exactly where he pointed out as well on both sides. I’m buying everything he recommended ASAP

This is actually Roxanne, Ernests wife lol. But I feel your pain! I just wanted to mention the pool! There's something about swimming that makes me feel weightless and it works out our whole body! They wanna blame everything on weight. I feel like so many doctors just wanna slap a cheap "band-aid" type of diagnosis or remedy on us! Just something to get us out of their office. It's sad, but it's how I feel about a lot of doctors, nurses, PA's, NP's- those who we turn to for problems with our body. And the "you're overweight" band-aid is just too easy for them to resist... ok, I'll get off my soapbox lol. I'm so thankful for this video!! I can't wait to learn more!! And if you are looking for ways to exercise without so much pain- maybe try looking into exercise you can do in a pool! Or shoot, even just swimming. It sure helps me. Best wishes! (:

EXCELLENT explanation and solutions! It's pretty incredible the shear force at the SI joint. When I was a young kid, whenever I sat cross-legged, I'd feel a "thump" at my bottom but never had any pain. The first time I had pain was when I was pregnant, and in standing, I sneezed. The most incredible pain, couldn't sit/stand, going from sitting to standing and vice versa was excrutiating. Did not know at the time anything about SI joint and my OBGYN didn't mention it as a possible cause. Fast forward years of self study (and eventually going to back to school to practice PT), I now understand what happened, and why. I learned that a big factor in SI joint dysfunction can be women's hormonal cycles which cause increased ligament laxity. This is necessary during pregnancy to allow for delivery through the pelvis, but it also happens to a lesser degree during regular menstrual cycles, and it affects all ligaments in the body. They've seen that women athletes can become more injured at certain points in their cycles for just this reason. I appreciate your approach and wanted to add a bit of info to the conversation.

It took me 4 years to figure out all that stuff by myself, including what’s going on with me, what is SI joint and its structure, SI joint belts, and all these, for years I’ve been searching for help, and here it put together into one short video! Bravo!
Btw, my SI joint problems started with hopping on one leg after osteomyelitis surgery (I was too lazy to use crutches). Avoid asymmetrical movements, especially bending on one leg, lifting weights on one leg etc. peace ✌️

Damn! I came across your video by accident while looking for something else but it was as if you were talking about me in every respect. I've had that problem for over twenty years. Physical therapists helped a little with piriformis pressure, ice, etc. years ago, and most recently a good chiropractor was doing exactly what you described and giving me, as you described, temporary relief. Over the years I noticed that walking on my treadmill with the incline raised was causing problems. The higher I went, the worse the problem. So now I keep it flat. Walking for a long time (60 minutes or more) on the treadmill also seems to bring the pain on. I'm 80, but I'm very active around my house and that includes climbing ladders. And that seems to make things worse, especially when I spend a whole day going up and down the ladder trimming a very tall hedge. I tried strengthening that area by stair stepping and quickly learned that was not a good idea. When the piriformis is tight, I get foot pain, especially at night. A few years ago when that started, I could simply roll over to my left side and the foot pain would instantly disappear. But now I either have to get up and walk a bit, or lie on my back with my knees bent. Just ordered the belt and Ligaplex. I have my fingers crossed. Thank you for the video!

OMG this is EXACTLY the pain I’ve been having for months (and years actually on and off) and currently going to PT for after my X-ray came back negative! Thank for this video and helpful information!!

this is mind blowing 😭 my knees dislocated for more than a decade (so I was constantly falling down hard on my butt) until I got surgery and I have severe SI discomfort that won’t go away. I can’t sit or stand/walk for long periods and it always hurts. I can’t believe none of my doctors told me this lol EDIT: I’ve been wearing the belt for over 2 weeks now and my pain has gone down sooo much 🥺

100% exactly what’s going on. I’m a SWAT guy and have been fighting this for 2.5 years. Multiple X-rays, multiple MRIs and have been told I need everything from exploratory surgery to fusion. I’m not willing to do any of that because I never felt like anybody understood what was going on. I’ve gotten farther in this video than I have in 2 years of doctors visits. Thank you.

Did you get the belt? If so has it helped? I'm 2 days into wearing mine...

I stretch every morning and night and it helps with the pain but sure enough it’s there when I sit, when I stand, when I sleep. It’s been two years and I’m tired of the pain and weakness on my left hip/leg, it’s gotten to the point where I’m tripping and losing my balance more often. Hope everyone finds a solution.
    Thanks for this insightful video.
