    All I know is, back in my college football days, the TENS unit coupled with either a heating pad or ice massage removed swelling from my lower quads that was so bad I could barely walk. I'd go into the training room after bumping knees with one of the offensive linemen double blocking me and assume that I wouldn't be able to practice for a week. Twenty minutes later I was almost brand new, which was a bummer when I was looking forward to being lazy that day.

    I had a hip replacement done 8 months ago. They didn’t tell me that trochanteric bursitis is a complication of the surgery. I’ve always been incredibly active. Now I can barely lie on my right side. Since I used to be physical therapy aid, I already knew about the wonders of tens therapy. I use it several times daily. The relief is immediate. Better than ice, lidocaine patches and voltaren gel. I also eat an anti inflammatory diet. Sugar and dairy are super bad and cause inflammation. I exercise as well, mostly swimming.

    Is the low rate TENS also called FES? Here in Brazil they give these two types on treatments. TENS is the one that doesn't contract the muscles and FES is the one that does. Just wondering so I can look for the correct equipment over here.

    I do think the high rate tens helps with muscle tightness by fatiguing the muscle and helping it relax. If I get a bad muscle spasm in my back and I go to PT, they put the high rate tens on with heat. I feel much much better afterward. I think they key is using the right tool for the right job.

    • @SquatUniversity
      @SquatUniversity  2 года назад +4

      True - and to also do something active directly after to address WHY the area is spasmed in the first place. The problem i see too often with physical therapist that use high rate often is they use it with heat or ice and don't do enough exercise to promote treating the why.

      I snapped my pectoral muscle benching too heavy. It literally sounded like a loud "pop". I was in excruciating pain for a month but I started light lifting on it weeks into the injury. Gradually working my way back to full weights and it was fully healed with original strength within 2 months. I always lift injured and with tears, I'm convinced it encourages strong healing and fast healing.

    I don't even need to watch this video to tell you that TENS worked very well for me when nothing else did. So yes I recommend it.

    But isn't swelling supposed to be good ? Why would one want to decrease it with TENS ?

      Inflammation is good - swelling on the other hand if left to sit in a joint can be bad.

    Aaron, I am a past patient and still having tendonitis in my shoulder. Would low rate TENS help with healing of this area? Thank you.

      Har to say 100% without seeing the person and knowing their case more, but in my experience with shoulder pain, most of the time - opting to find the specific reasoning behind the pain and crafting an exercise program that really addresses that will be more beneficial and give more ROI than a TENS.

      What about EMS? Would that be more helpful in this situation if tendonitis or small shoulder tear

      No. I literally use the MarcPro daily and give out TENS devices to my patients daily. Use whatever one you want but they are worth it IMO
