Outstanding video, had no idea it was possible. Matt/Flat finishes are not only homely, they’re very difficult to maintain. You rub a bug of the hood, now you have a shinny spot! If I did have a vehicle with a Matt Finish I would definitely add a Ceramic Coating.
Just used the 3 year coating on my personal car and the slickness is insane. Im in Florida, my garage was 90 F and high humidity so the coating instantly flashing, due to this I used a lot more than instructed and did smaller areas. I was nervous that I would not have enough to finish my small SUV, saving the glass for last but I did (not much left). Only had 1 super small high spot at the end of the day. I would definitely recommend these coatings!
Just ordered the 5 year ceramic, applicator pad, and some leveling towels. This is gonna be my first time doing a ceramic coating. I’ll have to watch a few of your videos first of coarse.
Awesome video. Going to be my first time doing a ceramic coating. I see you applied it in a circular motion, most RUclips detailers apply it in straight lines. Is there a right and wrong way to apply it?
Did you guys clay towel this matte finish or? Tell us your process pre coating pretty please 🙏 and can you demonstrate the beading after. Do you think 3 with graphene, 5 or 8 is any better choice for matte? And one final question, for coatings purposes should we consider treating matte wraps any different than actual matte paint? Thanks as always guys
Kirk, yes we used our decontamination towel on this car. We will have a complete video coming soon on what we did to the car. The 3 or 8 year are best, the 5 may add too much gloss.
Two questions for you 1. I noticed my 2 day old coating wasn't applied as well on two panels (not as slick). Can I wait for the 7 day cure time to end and then wash and panel prep to recoat more coating? 2. Can I clean and dry the foam applicator pad the same way I would with microfibers?
There is so many practices how to apply the ceramic coating as lots of professionals saying that while applying the ceramic coating cannot make these circular movements but straight moves across the panel. So does it actually matter in this case what movements we do while applying it?
I always find that I need a fair amount of pressure to buff off the coating to leave no marks, even after not waiting long at all. Am I best just to wipe on then level immediately if this is happening? Not sure if it’s due to high humidity in England or something. Thanks
Can I use this on my high polished aluminum dry bulk tanker? I really want to seal it while it's still shiny and new....scared to put it on a $120k polished surface....
Another way of understanding it is that when you see about 50% of the coating you applied to the paint “flash” or disappear ….it’s ready to level with your towel. We might have been a little quick in this video but with matte paint it’s better to err on the side of avoiding the possibility of high spots since you can’t polish matte paint or it turns shiny. Don’t be afraid to level on the early side, but if the paint is grabby that’s a sign you are too early. It should be an effortless wipe off
Ivan, I just applied your 3 year graphite coating, I’m in Florida, 90F and high humidity in my garage, that coating flashed almost instantly so I had to use more on each section, do smaller sections and pretty much after doing a 2x2 section, immediately leveling with towel and buffing off. It was not grabby at all and super slick after buffing. I am assuming I did it properly due to the crazy high heat and humidity? My car looks awesome and only had 1 small high spot that i missed
@diydetailofficial I thought so! but in this demonstration, I assumed it would have a more noticeable effect on a matte finish. because matte would serve as a prime example as to how much gloss is added. or so I assumed
Ive been doing ceramic coatings for a while now but lately I've been having issues with the new Ceramic my shop is using. It's called saphire and it seems no matter what I do, it's abnormally hard to buff/wipe. Ive used Adams Graphene and a few others and it goes on like butter but this stuff will literally take the rag out of my hand because it's so "grabby". Any tips?
@diydetailofficial Unfortunately my boss ordered like 6 bottles, so I'll be stuck with the stuff for a while. I was just curious if there could be something I'm doing wrong. It flashes so fast that I practically immediately start wiping right after I finish coating the panel. If I wait anything over a minute it's ridiculously hard to wipe and I almost always have to break out the buffer to knock it back down. Was also wondering if you have any input on sticking a microfiber rag to a buffer and using that to buff the ceramic? Thanks a bunch!
No, unfortunately you’re stuck with a poorly formulated product. If you’re taking longer to do the jobs, it’s probably more economically viable to ditch the bad coating and get something that actually works. The time you spend is worth more than the coating he would throw away. Also an important lesson, don’t buy in bulk until you know if a product works for you.
@diydetailofficial Yea at this point I'm almost tempted to just go buy some Adams Graphene or something similar with my own money as it literally cuts the job time in half so it would basically pay for itself after 1 job. Thanks for the info, love the videos!

However, I noticed that in your instructions, particularly when you mention waiting until the coating is 50% cross-linked before wiping or leveling, there might be some confusion. For those new to this process, understanding when a coating is at 50% cross-linking can be challenging. It’s not something that’s easily measurable without experience, and without clear guidance, people might either wipe too early or too late, leading to less-than-ideal results.
