Just clayed , polished and coated my car yesterday with the 8 year! Amazing
Thank you, let us know how the first wash goes.
I appreciate what you guys do. Always striving to make detailing easier for the little guy. I've learned a lot from this channel.
Glad to help
I loved this video guys. I love the dynamic between you and how you present this for a guy just getting started. It's like listening to my own inner dialog during the reality of any project. Thanks for showing us as DIY'er instead of skipping past the basics.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for the kind words
I polished and coated wife’s blue print Highlander using 8+3 year stack. The metallic paint looks like it should have from factory. Amazing difference in look but slickness is crazy. Totally agree on the white paint. These coatings are very easy to apply as I'm a novice and managed to do both my truck and wife's SUV without issue.
Thank you.
Did you use the same procedure as these guys?
@@hamsbeach I did. I used their yellow pads and gold standard polish. Didn't have the pad washer but used a bucket with grit guards filled with rinse less wash. Used their panel prep and coatings. Worked great.
You sold me on the rotary! Just bought a Harbor Freight Hercules cordless Rotary Polisher. It was FREE with the purchase of two 5AH batteries and since I wanted the batteries....
It is $99 tool only. Used it today - it is really great, very smooth, not heavy and nicely balanced. I will be replacing the grease like Apex Detail always does - LOL!
Enjoy!
I love the content and the way you explain the process. Love your products as well.
Thank you so much!!!
Always learning something new when watching your videos...no matter how much you may think you may know..
Glad to hear that!
I ceramic coated my White 2002 Escalade recently. It was very challenging. The final product is incredible after a month. Apex BC 1 as the coating and BC 3 is the topper.
Happy you like it.
I agree the 8 years is one of the most userfriendly coating i've ever used!
Excellent!
Can’t wait to get started
Soon
Great video guys 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 keep it coming
More to come!
Always listen to the MASTER, Mr. Lacroix. I cannot think of a more experienced and no nonsense car detail guy around. Cheers!
Thank you
A great wideo, love the DIY aprroach! Stay strong! Eat sleep detail repeat 🦾
Yes! Thank you!
You guys are awesome! Thank you !!
Thank you.
Agree 100%. Everyone needs to stop using the 2 bucket rip-off con. I've just recently started doing 2 foam wash on my wife's graphite coated new car. Works amazing. Cheers.
Good stuff!
The key to putting a ceramic coating on is lighting. Obviously there are other things lol, but lighting is huge. I've only did it a couple times. The first time I did it outside because I don't have a bunch of lights in my garage. And I missed a bunch of stuff. You can think you have everything leveled down and wiped off, then the next thing you know you find five or six places you need to fix. It was so frustrating. Doing it in a garage with all of those lights above would be heaven lol. Excellent Video is always.
Great point
Yep, had mine ceramic coated three days after I brought her home. It's amazing 8 mos. later and I have her washed once per month with ceramic shampoo by the same detailer. And I detail her with Chemical Guys ceramic detailer when necessary between washes and CGs ceramic wheel detailer for the rims.
Well done!
This video was filled with some beautiful gems of knowledge. It is much appreciated gents.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoy watching your videos
Thank you.
Great video 🎉🎉
Thank you
Here they come
The boys in the bright red sports shoes
Waving their towels in the air
We all know who they are
And wow did they shine that car! 🎶
Nice! La da da da
This will be a good one.
Thank you
Nice video guys . I have always heard about cross H pattern to apply ceramic coating ? Nick is doing circles ?
Thanks for your feed back
Stephane
We teach circular motions, it’s less likely to leave high spots (less starting and stopping) and easier on your shoulder
This was the video I was going to look for but it just popped up on my screen. Thank you so much, excellent.
Great to hear!
Great video. Question - For the ceramic liquid coating, does it matter if you get some on the glass or plastic? Thank you.
You want it on both
I can't wait to do the G63 Black! It shouldn't take that long considering how fast you guys did this one!
Thanks, please share your thoughts in our facebook group

Unrelated question: do you have to worry about mold buildup underneath the flooring? Curious about the maintenance. Ty!
Yes. Floor needs to be taken up and cleaned underneath.
The gloss is really dripping gloss and looks fantastic. I work by myself and on white paint the three towel method is good insurance. I grew up with station wagons and sitting in the back seat facing the car behind you was always fun when riding with your friends.
Great memories
Love it guys! Do you coat the wheels and tires?
Wheels yes, tires we use DIY Detail Tire Dressing
Yup white is the hardest to work with. Did a white Bentley last week, so hard ceramic coat had to feel each panel.
Yes it’s not easy.
A question, if you polished before applying ceramic would there have been a higher gloss ? Good luck in your new location, waiting to see what it looks like when your finished !!
Yes you will get more gloss if you polish with The Gold Standard Polishing System first.
Great video! I appreciate your content. Are there any issues or concerns with vinyl decals during any of these detailing steps?
Not if they are gloss. If they matte, then avoid polishing.
@diydetailofficial ok, so the chemicals and coatings should be fine?
Yes
I just did the 8year ceramic coating and it’s easy and amazing. Now I need to wash it. Rinseless wash with or without the ceramic gloss? Is ceramic gloss a product to use on ceramic coatings and or is there something better after the rinseless?
DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss is a great choice.
Where do you get your buckets, they are not on your website?
Love the videoes very helpful
They get them from their local restaurant supply store.
Thank you, they are from a local restaurant supply
In the video above, you did NOT include a spot remover stage in preparing the car for the ceramic coating. Yet I watched an other DIY Detail video yesterday about a simple process of ceramic coating a new Suburu which DID include a spot remover stage to clean out the pores of the paintwork. Is the spot remover stage an optional one for ceramic coating a new car with say less than 100 miles on it? Could you please clarify? Thanks again for all these great videos!
It’s best to do it, in the case of the Subaru , we know the car wash leaves a film.
Many thanks, Nick. I will add it to the process for ceramic coating my new Lexus this Spring. I would need the DIY Spot Remover anyway for the annual maintenance next year anyway.@@diydetailofficial
Thank you.
Great video as usual, learning alot from you guys. Some guys say you must polish vehicle before applying coating, but you guys show that its not true. It can be apply without polishing. Curious, what would be that average cost for this service without polishing?
$500 and up
So say i wanted to apply a second layer or add the 3 year on top of this how long will i wait between the two layers? Also do you guys plan on adding more products to Amazon?
If wanting to stack the 3 year on top of our 5 or 8 year coating it has to be done between 2 and 8 hours after the first application. To add a second layer of the same product, there’s really no need, but give it at least 24 hours.
More products coming to Amazon soon.
Interior ceramic- is that water based? Also, if you have a new car, what are your thoughts about just hand polishing after the necessary decon just to give a micron scale surface to allow the ceramic coating just to grab onto to give you slightly more longevity?
It’s solvent based. You can hand polish.
What make of ceramuc coating are you using, im in UK and never heard of an 8 year ceramic coating. Very interested to find make guys
DIY Detail 8 year

Excellent vid. So with ALL coatings should you generally use a circular motion as opposed to a crisscross pattern?
The geometric shape you use makes no difference to the coating. The goal is to evenly distribute it on the paint. We prefer circular motions because it reduces the chance of high spots.
Thanks for the reply. I really thought that there was some other reason for the crisscross pattern other than proper coverage, but I can see your excellent point regarding the reduction of high spots with the circular motion.@@diydetailofficial
Thank you for the question
Is the Stash and Mullet coming back? 70's and 80's are coming back. good video
No it’s thankfully gone for good
Odd question, would you do any paint corrections in the future after ceramic coating the car?
If it's needed, is it a difference process with the ceramic coat?
You will need to add a new coating
I have one question. Do new cars come with some type of coating on that will need to be stripped prior to adding a coating? It's a metallic silver Honda civic.
Not from the factory, but occasionally dealers will use sealants, best to act as if it has something in your prep.
Am sure its been asked before but what's the cure time for the 3 year coating? How many days before contact with water?
You can drive it after 1 hour of curing. Wait a week to wash, then feel free to use Ceramic Gloss😊
To avoid the high spots and drips/running you on the edges I have a solution. What I do is start with the circular spreading in the middle when you've just loaded up the applicator. That way you're not doing the edges when the applicator is its most saturated. Otherwise you tend to get that running. That way you can just keep working in circles right up to your edges spreading outward!
Excellent
Excellent .
Then you applied way to much coating on the applicator. Work in small areas, 10 drops with a pipet.
What washer tips do you normally use on your foam rinse? Standard wide 40 degree or is a 25 degree better for taking off any bugs or dirt?
How about the end of contact wash rinse off?
We generally use a 25 degree tip
I have my dream car coming in next week (C8). Also have your ceramic kit. Should I trust dealership to clean car or should I ask them to leave it alone??
Leave it alone
What if this new vehicle came with a 1 year dealer installed coating. Would you have to polish before installing the DIY coating?
Yes, polishing will remove it.
Ready
Thank you
Spyker use iron remover on wheels after you wash them to maximize iron removing power from the chemical. I coat two panels at a time then go bsck level them back to back then coat another two panels. I also two coats using less coating eacg application and them i don't worry about having leftover coating two light coats are better than 1 thick coat. Love your other coating its soo glossy
Thanks for the tip!
Hey what if you have to remove water spots? Is this it- wash car, dry it, re soak and do clay process, then use water spot remover, then polish paint, then apply ceramic?
Correct
How do your coatings compare to strict glass coatings like GTechniq G1 on windshields as far as beading at lower speeds and abrasion resistance from wiper blades is concerned? Is there added bonding agents in glass specific coatings?
There’s very little difference if any.
@@diydetailofficialis there any special steps to do to ceramic coat windows? Like decon steps? For example polishing the glass or anything?
Ideally clay and polish.
Hey mate, what is the brand of your scissor lift ? :) ty!
We don’t have one.
When applying a nano rain repellent for windows, is it necessary to spray 20 times per square meter and also wait and have it cure for 24 hours after? And would you agree that this would be an excellent upsell for client?
Every product is different
@@diydetailofficial I'll follow the instructions on the bottle. Appreciate it!
Can the foam applicator be re-used? What about the buffing towels?
Yes, once done using, dunk in your wash bucket 15-30 mins
Did you guys do any SEMA coverage?
Not this year
What polish can you use before adding the ceramic coating ?
Gold Standard Polish: bit.ly/GoldStandardPolish
Are you referring to Jerry(Trooper, The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car)? I think I was able to find the song you were referencing, I can’t say I remember ever hearing that on the radio, though…
Correct, in Canada it played often in 76/77
Don't remember that on air here in the States. Either not big here, or it wasn't played on the stations my parents listened to.
Credit the all mighty Google...
Hopefully you found a new song to add to your playlist
I think the iron remover test should’ve been done after the wash.. otherwise you’re just testing normal metallic brake dust that would’ve washed off during the normal wash. Just a thought
Yes, but not all would have been removed from a wash
Would a black light help with the coating
No
Thank you! Do you do ceramic coating on the inside as well (infotainment screen, piano black areas, etc)? How many bottle(s) do I need on a mid size SUV (Honda Pilot)? Thank you!
They have a 16oz bottle with a spray trigger that's called interior ceramic. It's safe on all interior surfaces including infotainment screens. Just don't use it on the interior windows as it can fog up. It's an awesome product and one bottle will coat multiple vehicle interiors.
Only one bottle, for interior surfaces we have our DIY Detail Interior Ceramic.
Thank you so much!!
@@diydetailofficialPlease, do a video with the DIY interior ceramic coating. That would be great! Thank you!!
Our pleasure, when you’re done please post your results in our Facebook group bit.ly/DIYDetailFacebookGroup
If you finish your decon wash and dry the car and see some left over orange spots, how do you handle that? Iron remover on a microfiber or something else?
You’re just going to want to re wet the panel with Rinseless Wash quickly (easy, just grab your sponge from bucket) and do same process on towel(one spray)/panel (one spray) and no pressure until the orange spots go away
@@diydetailofficial thanks!
I've recently tried the fine grade clay towel from another company and was not at all impressed. Compared to my Griot's Garage synthetic clay the towel doesn't remove anything and is more difficult to use. I want to give the towel another shot using your ultra fine grade version but not sure that will make a difference.
Yes, it will make you a friend of the towels.
I a 10 year old Accord, parked in sun all these years. Want to Ceramic/Graphine can you make a video for that please
We have many videos ceramic coating older cars.
Can you put ceramic coating over plastic cladding and rubber weather stripping?
Yes
Just curious, how cold can it be and still do a paint correction and ceramic coating? The reason I’m asking is that I don’t have a heated garage.
50f, 40 at a bare minimum
@@diydetailofficial Thank You!!
Where can I find that bucket and grit guard?
Bucket is from a restaurant supply store. It’s a detail guardz insert
I got a new 2024 Chevy Camaro Panther collectors edition it has black metallic tri coat paint on it. I want to ceramic coat it, would you polish it first
If you like the paint the way it is, and the dealership didn’t put anything on it, then you’re good.
@@diydetailofficial I put some ceramic spray on it, so I guess I should lightly polish it off
What do you do when the ceramic coating wears out?
If maintained properly it will greatly outlast the stated time, but a light polish and re-application is all that’s required
Yvan, Trooper was a Canadian band… Nick didn’t even have a chance. 😅 next hit him up with some Men Without Hats trivia next.
While we do the Safety dance on occasion, I think Klaatu is more appropriate for Nick.
Hey lads, whats the best way to coat the windows ? If you roll it down slightly you can get the top edge. But then how do u get the rest of the glass without affecting the top section by rolling it back up? Thx how long would the coating last on windows with all that abrasion when they go up and down ?
Roll down, do the top of the window, coat the rest of the car. When you’re finished coating the rest of the car, put the windows up, and finish by coating the rest of the window.
@@diydetailofficialthanks. What about durability on windows? What is a realistic period with the 3 5 and 8 year coatings on windows with all that abrasion when opening and closing? Would we only see a fraction of durability? Thx
Durability is definitely a direct correlation with abrasion. It’s difficult to express a durability in this case.
I recognise this man. I've been out of detailing for quite a few years now. I remember seeing him work with optimum. What happened?
He hasn’t worked at Optimum for years, Nick and Yvan started DIY Detail in 2022
Did you polish the front with the PPF? can you do same process on the ppf?
We didn't polish anything for this vehicle, but yes you *can* polish PPF...just be very light. NO pressure, no heat, you're not trying to remover scratches or swirls you're just doing a light cleaning of the surface.
What about using the clay bar towel?
To be more specific, Claybar towel on the PPF
can this be used on a freshly painted hot rod Satin Black paint job. does it work well over a satin finish?
Yes, it works great for satin. What’s your hot rod.

Nice!
say i polish a few scratches, can i still apply ceramic coat to the spots i didn't polish?
Yes
Would 1 week be enough wait time to wash my car for the first time after applying your 5 year ceramic?
Yes, absolutely
Are your products sold outside of US?
Yes, diydetail.com/pages/distributors
I thought I heard Yvan say in another video that the red sponge applicator is included when you purchase a ceramic coating. Is that right?
It has been included whenever i purchase. However I don't use it as I find it slips around on my hand too much. I only use a block and suede towel. Much better use of product. A bottle goes further.
That's correct! A bottle of coating comes with one red foam applicator
@@rooboy99 thanks
@@diydetailofficial thank you
Can I use this same process on my vehicle that has 6k kms?
Yes.
What is the difference between these two towels ?
Which towels?
If you have a ceramic coating already on do you want to polish after??
Polishing removes a coating
If a car has little marring and a coating and you want to put a newer coating do you have to polish to remove the old coating.
Just a light polish, yes. The goal is to abrade that coating, no need to worry about removing it entirely
Thank you
Do you need to polish a vehicle that’s 4 years old before ceramic coating it ?
Ideally, yes
Have a new car 2 months old. Applied spray ceramic coatings like McGuires and Turtle wax along with a Iron wheel cleaner during the first 3 weeks of owner ship. There is not one scratch or swirl mark on the paint. Lots of orange peal but show me a new car that is not full of orange peal. Rather have an extra layer of clear coat than a paint corrected car. I live in Florida so sun use of products that don't like sun are not worth it. My question is I am happy with my car the way it is. Use of polishes and buffing in the past have always resulted in disaster. I keep my cars a long time. So whats the best way to just keep my car the way it is. I use a foamer and two buck method and spray rinse off products. Never heard of decontamination a new car until I started watching detail videos although it makes a lot of sense. I would image less than 5% of new car owners have their paint decontaminated. So whats the best way to keep the car just the way it is.
Congratulations, keeping it clean is a great start.
This may help

@@diydetailofficial oh, just found it in my C6 Hydro Lite Kit box. No wonder it was soooo heavy lol. Thx
One thing that I learnt from mistake was about coating windows. I will make sure rolling down the window a bit when leveling. You don’t want to see high spot boxing your windows a week after.
Good point
You learnt that too eh. 😀
Yes about 25 years ago.
On average, what would be the cost on a new car for the wash, decon, and coat for 8 yrs?
Most detailers should charge around 1500$
@diydetailofficial That's a nice chunk of change, don't you agree? It makes want to continue to learn from your videos!
By the way, is the ceramic coating applied to the entire car (window glass, trim, plastic)? In the video, I don't remember if it was applied to other parts other than the panels?
What about leather chamois to dry a car?
Unfortunately not the best solution if you don’t want to scratch your paint.
ancient detailer here. how many home diy'ers have an air hose to plug into?
Not many, but it’s growing
Can those towels be reused for something else?
Yes
Easy way to coat a vehicle. New vehicles are great and way easier to coat. Especially something very prestine
We agree!
How did you get a Lexus out the door with all that dust on it? They would detail it before delivery…
Not if the owner asked them too
How do you tell if you have iron contamination on a black car?
It’s hard to see, but it’s there. Decontaminate every 6 months, or 10,000 miles to be safe
I couldn't quite understand. Can you demo how you would remove the dust the next day?
By the way, I couldn't see the pattern (if any) when applying the coating.
What kind of special towel are you using to apply the coating?
And what are the other towels type that will dry it? Are these throw away after, or are they washable?
How many months/years of protection does this coating provide?
Is one bottle enough to cover an suv or van or car?
For maintenance, will future washes be done with incredible suds only?
Thank you.
If it gets dust the next day, don’t worry, don’t wash it for a week.
On a white car it’s very difficult to see.
We use a foam applicator to apply the coating. We use a pearl weave for the initial leveling, then a plush towel for the insurance wipe.
The applicator and towels are washable.
We offer 3, 5. And 8 year coatings
One bottle covers on average 2 sedans.
Washing can be done however you want.
Great, thanks.
17:00 I know you guys are doing a ceramic coat after drying but how do you not use a drying aid/lubricant as to avoid any marring? Or no choice at this point? I think there’s drying aids on the market that leave no protection behind. Any recs?
You can use rinseless 1:256 or at a higher dilution if you wish as a drying aid!
Our Rinseless at 256/1 makes a good drying lubricant.
If you don't polish is panel prep necessary
Panel Prep is Always necessary before a coating for a proper bond.
Yes, if you don’t polish with DIY Detail Gold Standard Polish, it’s even more important.
where can I buy that fricking glove in Mexico city? any dealer in here?
Unfortunately not yet. Ask for DIY Detail from your favourite distributor
I was told that I had to wait 6 weeks before I could have my brand-new car coated, as the paint on new cars hasn't cured. It still has chemicals that are oozing out of it. When my bonnet was damaged and needed to be resprayed, I needed to wait again before the coating could be re-applied.
That’s an old wives tail. Dealerships apply protection on new cars every day.
