    Not mentioned in this video is the substantial difference in latency between a direct DisplayPort connection and the remote streaming method used by Quest headsets. Streaming PCVR to Quest produces 50-70ms of latency which mostly comes from the complex lossy codecs that are being used like h.265.
    In a flight simulator, this is generally not going to matter. But in a racing simulation it does. Effectively the car is reacting 50-70ms slower just because of the VR hardware in use. The driver will naturally interpret this as the suspension just reacting a little slower and adapt and not feel like anything is wrong. But this does affect your competitive edge to some degree. Your car is responding a little bit slower than it could, and its because of your VR hardware, not the simulation.
    If you play action games like FPS, that latency really matters. Fire fights are often decided by who gets in the first shot, and having 50-70ms added to your reaction time is significant. Quest 3 is a lighter headset and that has benefits for comfort. And wireless is nice. But if you want to win, a PCVR headset using DisplayPort gives you a meaningful edge over opponents streaming PCVR to Quest.

    • @silverfoxvr8541
      @silverfoxvr8541 7 месяцев назад

      Guess what? It doesnt matter. YOUR reaction time is WAY slower that 50ms. Ever maxx V's is. IT DOESNT MATTER

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@silverfoxvr8541 That's not how it works. That 50ms is added on top of whatever your reaction time is. If you react in 250ms, then total reaction time will become 300ms.
      If you're firing at an opponent who reacted in 270ms (slower than you), but he's using a VR headset with DisplayPort, he will still get in the first shot anyway.
      It won't always make the difference between winning and losing, but it's a meaningful edge. I've lost races in RL by as little as 8ms.

      Another benefit no one talks about is due to the display port direct connection, you can take advantage of Nvidia Reflex (granted you have an Nvidia GPU) which reduces latency even more, which I noticed benefitted my experience tremendously in iRacing. I compared results with a few others with a Quest 3 and Pico VR and they did not great results from it (likely due to their compressed output) while my Reverb G2 benefitted tremendously. It was a noticeable difference even prior to looking at fps/frametimes/response times.

    Is the Crystal Light be my next VR headset??? Maybe sometime in the future, but right now I am enjoying my Quest 3 for what it provides me. High Resolution adequate, clarity is very good, the sweet spot is large enough for me. The headset is much lighter and smaller in size than a PIMAX headsets. Plus this is my first wireless VR headset.
    Right now I connect my Quest 3 via a USB link cable and works well with my SIM racing games i do.
    I am not a META fanboy, I try to find a headset that works for me, and so far the Quest 3 replaced my Rift S for better quality. I have gone through other VR headsets with disappointments with them. And the price was good enough on my pocket book and budget spending.
    I will say that the PIMAX Crystal Light VR headsets are on my watch videos list and they do look good for my SIM Racing. i like how they connect via a Display Port to the GFX card. I will wait till they hit the market and watch video reviews on them. Till then, I am back to doing SIM racing with my Quest 3.
    Take care.

    These little videos are nice and to the point. As wireless is becoming increasingly "mainstream" and often uses much more bandwidth limited methods than a cable is, I think the discussion about compression and latency needs to be had more. Because it doesn't take long to figure out the basics, but it's definitely not readily obvious without at least a little research so it's easy for the average consumer to overlook. Some people don't notice it as much, but it IS still something worth talking about as plenty do.
    We may (eventually) hit a point of diminishing returns or advancement in techniques that it'll be hard to tell the difference even for eagle eyed people actively looking for artifacts and sensitive to it and have low latency, but we're still not there yet and especially not on such high resolution HMDs like this. The cable still has a place.
    Or maybe we'll finally get Wigig 2 on a commercial product at some point lol.

    I'm trying to decide between Pimax Crystal with Wireless module and Crystal Super wired, but it's so hard to choose when I've already got the 8KX!
    I definitely want the 12K when that comes, but that's why it's hard to decide whether to get wireless smaller FoV, or wired larger FoV which is still less than the 8KX FoV. I think I can only decide after seeing the final performance and specs of the Wireless module on Crystal, compared to the final performance and specs of the Crystal Super.
    The Crystal Light I can rule out for myself, though.

    USB-C/3.1, 3.2 and 4.0 are not as bad as you claim...Although quite rightly...you are talking about USB + decoder for the Quest3...Without dwelling on that...
    it would have been fairer to do so...
    However, the Quest3/Pico 4 are autonomous devices with a small battery which rely on a fairly weak decompression chip.
    It is this which limits the quality and blocks the bandwidth of USB by using a compression ratio higher than the 3:1 of DP.1.4
    Besides, the bandwidth you quote for this one is 32.4 Gbit/s and not 80Gbit/s like that of DP2.0/USB 4....
    Why not use DP2.0?
    So do the 2x8,5Mp really support a frequency of 90hz in DP1.4? And how?
