    Make a version of Crystal Light with eye-tracking for DFR and i'll think about it. Do the same thing you already did with local dimming. A lot of people who can't justify spending $1499 on the original Crystal will still be willing to pay more than $699 for the Light if only it had eye-tracking.

      With that huge resolution is very concerning that there is no eye tracking / foveated rendediing.
      The smoke tests shown in this video are that, smoke. In the case of DCS a true test would be a dogfight near the deck not looking around in the cockpit with blue sky.
      Granted: one of the selling points is the price tag. However, why pay for a stand alone features that will never use with the benefit of weight reduction?

    I have Pimax Crystal; many many of my games do not work with foveated rendering (fixed or dynamic). Crystal light sounds great for such games. I use foveated just for DCS, Pavlov (2 top games with quad views implemented = the best foveated solution), and for MSFS. For the rest, I do not even bother to try, they mostly run good without it. My GPU is 3090..

      that's an "iracing problem" tbh. Rendering other cars is very CPU intensive. I don't know any other game that needs so much CPU power. You need at least a 5800X3D to hold 90fps continously. Every lower CPU will give you drops. I have a 5600X and race starts are like 70-80fps but it gets stable after the first corner usually. And that's considering only 2 mirrors, HDR and some other gimmicks like high quality trees off.

    People need to understand that the ratio between rendering resolution and panel resolution isn't important in VR like it is for flat monitors. The idea that your GPU must increase in power to keep up 1:1 with panel resolution is purely a flat monitor phenomenon that doesn't apply to VR headsets. Raising the panel resolution alone while maintaining the same rendering resolution _will increase clarity_ with no down side.
    In addition, the Crystal Light's lenses are sharper than any other PCVR headset you are coming from. This will increase clarity, too. A lot. No matter how you slice it, even without using FFR, the Crystal Light will be able to produce better visuals with your current GPU than your current PCVR headset at the same frame rate.

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 4 месяца назад +1

      @@ji3200 The Bigscreen Beyond uses DSC compression, but this is not like the video compression that is used on Quest. Pimax headsets use DSC compression, too. It is visually lossless, unlike the compression on Quest. Pretty much, you don't need to care that DSC compression exists as it has no impact on visual quality. You can crank up the super sampling on either a Beyond or any Pimax headset, and it will look great. Whereas on Quest, you can crank super sampling all you want, and you are still going to get the same compression artifacting in the visuals.

      @@SargonDragon USB-C/3.2 and 4.0 are not as bad as Pimax claim. in their other video..Although quite rightly...they are talking about USB + decoder for the Quest3...Without dwelling on that...
      it would have been fairer to do so...
      The Quest3/Pico 4 are autonomous devices with a small battery which rely on a fairly weak decompression chip.
      It is this which limits the quality and blocks the bandwidth of USB by using a compression ratio higher ( probably XX:1) than the 3:1 of DP.1.4
      Besides, the bandwidth Pimax quote for this one is 32.4 Gbit/s and not 80Gbit/s like that of DP2.0/USB 4....
      Why they don't use DP2.0? ( cause shamely ...Nvidia still not support this late version)
      So do the 2x8.5Mp support a frequency of 90hz in DP1.4 with the DSC ratio of 3:1...?
      Quest 3 and Pico could have a equal quality of image with USB connection, but it require a better decompression chipset for PCVR mode...instead of the crappy XR2...

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 4 месяца назад +3

      @@SETHalpine Pimax has been able to get 2880x2880@120Hz through DP1.4 with the original Crystal. So even more than the 90Hz you're asking about. That is proven in a current product which is actually out there in the wild. Crystal Light retains that hardware, so there is no reason to believe it won't have the same capability as Pimax claims.
      Quest/Pico use much more complex lossy codecs like h.265 which provide _much_ larger compression ratios than DSC, but at the cost of ~50-70ms latency and visual artifacts. No matter how high you drive the bitrate, they can not perform as well. If you could go high enough bitrate, artifacts could be reduced to unnoticeable, but latency will not. And as you mention, Quest/Pico hardware doesn't have the ability to can't go that high anyway.

    So I get why you made this video, but you can't actually see the difference when wearing the hmd. The fxaa and none use of dlss or taa, dlaa etc matters a lot in visual quality. This is why you missed the eye tracking window. A quest 3 is a better deal if you cut down render scale on lower GPUs and use bucchia ffr etc on Virtual desktop, because then you get a library too. Crystal light should have eye tracking. So 4090 owners can buy something with high settings and not compromise on render scale. You are developing a board for super that can handle eye tracking without XR2 and standalone stuff. Great clarity of crappy scaling is not what I want!

    Hi, You chose a part of DCS where there is no terrain no asset and almost no cloud... I play DCS on Reverb G2 and I hardly get 90FPS constant on a 3090. Although, I am very curious about the Crystal light. Will it help me read the dam computer in the F16 and F18 or will I still need to zoom in every time ? Will it be fluid enough at 72Hz so that I don't get flapping. Will you ever make an eye tracking version ? I am willing to test your headset for a period of several weeks of months if you want to test it with a real sim guy who has a standard gear... (5800X 3D 3090 Asus ROG 32Go RAM 4000Mhz

    If you have a AMD GPU, Pimax is not for you. It is bad enough that I ordered this in May and it just arrived 3 days ago. In the three days I have had the Pimax Crystal Light, I have not been able to get my computer (Ryzen 7900X3D, Radeon 7900 GRE) to recognize it and start it up. I have left 2 tickets with Pimax support and I have received 2 notifications that no one is at their desk. No one is on Discord for Pimax. No one answers Pimax chat except to tell you to leave a ticket. This product and it's creating company are far below acceptable.

    My next headset is the Somnium vr1 because of the true 125°h+fov . And it has propper MR , hand Tracking and eye tracking+ lighouse build in right out of the box . + Its way brighter than the crystal + very very stable software. Ah and the best part is the Nvidia sharperning build into the Somnium vr1 software+ they even have their own dlaa proprietary sharpening software which is even better

      @@x32i77 The VR1 model with the MR hasn't had its precise weight revealed yet, but it is said to be even heavier than the original Crystal, so north of 1.1Kg versus Crystal Light's 0.8Kg. As to whether it's worth it, I think it will depend a great deal on how stable the Crystal Light is by comparison.
      Poor stability is Pimax's biggest drawback in general. However, the Crystal Light deletes the components that were causing most of the stability problems with the original Crystal. So there's a potential for it to be an actually stable Pimax headset, and I hope Pimax will focus some effort on that aspect.
      But they probably won't.

      @@x32i77 Hmm. You're right. I see that it is listed in specs last year. I don't think they had the final product then though, so I question the accuracy of that number. VRFlightSimGuy has actually been testing a fully loaded one recently in his videos, and he says it's noticeably heavier than the Crystal. That doesn't jive with a claim of 850g.

      To my opinion smooth gameplay with higher FPS is more important than sharper picture rendering at the edges of the view area.
      Your eyes do it perfectly the same ....just like fixed foveated rendering !
      When you want to see an object very sharp you look at it directly in the center of your view. Everything else at the edges is blurry.
      Why make it different in a VR headset ? Turning your head slightly to look at things will not break your neck !
