The Crystal Light brings the core experience of the Crystal at a much more affordable price, as well as a lighter package. The Crystal Light needs no battery, as the power supply is directly brought through the DisplayPort cable. The headset and controllers are tracked with built-in 6DOF inside-out tracking, so you don't need to buy any base stations. It's a pure PCVR headset, and a simplified user experience.

You know what would make your glass aspheric lenses even better? Dynamic lens correction. 😉
Omniwhatever's recent review of the wide FOV lenses using a trial version of the Almalence plugin made for them showed a dramatic improvement in reducing the main issue with aspheric lenses, chromatic aberration. They changed those lenses from something not as desirable due to the distortion issues into something people might actually consider.
Pimax please reconsider having this feature on your headsets. Many people who tried the Almalence plugin have expressed the desire to even pay additional money to have this feature and that was just with the normal FOV lenses. The improvement for them in reducing CA and improving clarity was that significant to them. Honestly you guys are leaving superior visual quality on the table by not using it. It would also help make the Crystal a more appealing alternative to the Crystal Light and more worth the extra money. You could look into developing your own solution if Almalence is too expensive.
Also by implementing and testing that out on the Crystal (like much of the other tech you're using now), you'd have something more polished and refined by the time the Crystal Super releases which would help give it a leg up over its competitors. The value of this tech could be carried forward to all future headsets with eye tracking, giving them the best visuals possible with the lenses they have.
And just imagine what you could achieve with the 12K using that tech. As demonstrated by the wide FOV lenses, it's not going to be easy to achieve ultra-wide FOV with excellent clarity. Dynamic lens correction could yield a dramatic improvement in clarity/sharpness and reducing distortion with those lenses. You could have the best of both worlds.
Please give it some thought, thanks.

I agree that glass aspheric lenses are the best and I knew this way back in the PSVR 1 days. This is also why the vive-gearVR lens mod was used by so many people. I don't know why the entire industry took a 7 year break from using glass aspheric lenses, but I'm glad its an option again.

Please Pimax, as you mention the negatives of other lenses, you should also mention the negatives of aspherics. As an owner of both Quest Pro and Pimax Crystal, the fact is that QPro has true edge-to-edge clarity ve the Crystal doesn’t. I had to learn this through research that the aspheric lenses will never provide the same edge-to-edge clarity as pancake lenses can, simply due to physics. Having said all this, my daily driver is the Pimax Crystal for flying and racing. I had to get over the fact that there is a sweet spot, like I used to have in the Reverb G2, one that I didn’t need to worry about in the QPro. But yes, colours and resolution are definitely superior in the Crystal, and it makes me look around in awe everytime

Almalence has proved in public testing that chromatic aberration of aspheric lenses can be fixed in software. Please Pimax give almalence a chance. I gladly pay extra for "more perfect" image in my crystal.

I was going to buy some aftermarket prescription lenses to use with the Pimax Crystal Light. But, I heard it pushes your head further away and you may lose FOV. So I will use Contact Lenses instead. I want to get the most FOV out of it as I can. 😉👌🤓👍🤗

How about Barrel Distortion form aspheric lenses? All that said, I'd buy a headset if you could make it a bit smaller. The Crystal Light doesn't need to be that big, even if it weighs less than the Crystal.

    • @JaapGrolleman
      @JaapGrolleman 2 месяца назад

It's not small but it has a hard backstrap which is pretty comfortable (way more comfortable than a soft backstrap) and weight is more important than size (esp. for pcvr because you're not traveling with it anyway)

They are obviously using the same design of the Crystal to save costs and use the same production lines as the Crystal. Redesigning the headset would have been very inconvenient and cost them a lot of money. YOu need to wait for their next gen for a redesign.

@@jamierichards925 come on... a quest 3 has terrible blacks vs the Crystal as it has no local dimming. So, saying "Quest 3 is better at everything else except for the res" is just a false statement on your part.

So you're basically saying that if the customer wants the greater FoV lenses you're making for the Crystal, they're SOL...
Also, if you don't provide a prescription option of lenses for the customer, then they have to go to aftermarket, or wear glasses, which brings their eyes further away from the lenses and reduces their FoV. So.. like..... How are people who need to wear glasses or have to rely on aftermarket covers for prescriptions benefitting from your design choice....?

      I wear prescription glasses.
I have had to purchase aftermarket prescription lenses for all my headsets. My Vive Pro, HP Reverb G2 V2, Quest 3, PSVR2. I even had to get prescription lenses made for my Xreal Air 2 Pro glasses. But, I don't believe I will get aftermarket prescription lenses for the Pimax Crystal Light. I will use contact lenses instead. I don't want to lose any FOV at all, seeing how you don't get as much as the older Pimax Headsets. It definitely sucks getting old and needing to wear glasses. 🤓👍
Note: Once you purchase the Pimax Crystal Light it is yours you can do what you want with it. If you would like to swap out the lenses. I don't see why you couldn't. You can still remove the lenses. It may require some modifications but, I am sure it is possible. But, I don't believe I will be doing that. I heard the Wide FOV lenses weren't that good. But, I don't know this for sure.
