During the 1990s I attended a Siggraph Convention for computer animators - very enjoyable. Most there were young people excited about CGI etc. But there was this one booth, by Sony, where two Japanese scientists were wearing white scientific coats - they could not speak any english, who were demonstrating wearable glasses. When they observed me being interested, they encouraged me (using physical movement - not by speaking...) to try on a pair. And I was STUNNED!!! The glasses were crystal clear, and I could see a computer screen right in front of my eyes in incredible clarity. I could also manipulate a 'mouse' on the screen. Again, everything was soooo crystal clear! I handed back the glasses to these two Sony scientists wearing white science coats. They smiled at me. And I've been looking for these glasses being available on the market ever since. That was back in the 1990s. It's now 2024.
This is pretty incredible to be honest. It feels like we're seeing the first iteration of the next personal computing device. Like how the first "mobile" phone was a suitcase. Or the first laptop was a 11kg backpack. In my opinion the Meta Ray Bans has nailed the form factor, but completely lacks the cisual AR aspect while the Ray Neo glasses is the closest to what I think most people want functionality wise but in a pretty clunky form factor. My intuition is that with how power efficient recent lightweight devices has become (for example the new M4 is so powerful that they had to take significant steps to not make the iPad a direct Macbook competitor), we're going to see the capabilities of the Ray Neo in much better form factors within a year or two. And the world will never look the same.
I love my xreal glasses. I've watched your videos while mowing the lawn. I've also used them to cook, having my recipe in front of my eyes while cooking.
hey xreal how about you make your software functional on mac? I've owned a pair for 2 years and little to no progress has been made on making these glasses usable for work
Hardware kickstarters are always a huge gamble; mass producing electronics very often is way more challenging than most people expect, even if they already got working prototypes that reached all the goals.
Hi, Matt! This is a great review, and thanks so much for posting it. As always we viewers very much appreciate your unbiased views and reports - it helps us keep up with what's out there and available. It seems all the use cases for these AR glasses/headsets are for entertainment and personal use, but what about for more business-oriented applications? For example, how do the various offerings perform if we wanted to sit in our recliner, with a keyboard in our lap and write things in a Word or Google document, or if we wanted to create graphics in Affinity or Canva, or if we wanted to edit a video in DaVinci Resolve or Camtasia? I have always thought it would be great to have that huge virtual screen floating in front of me, so I could do this sort of stuff in greater comfort than a desk chair - or even in the passenger seat of a car while my wife is driving. Maybe you could consider a video soon on how well some of these work in more practical use cases? Thanks for all you do, and take care!

I love my XReal Air Pro 2. You didn’t mention that they are wearable monitors. I no longer have a room with three monitors. I now have THREE large monitors in my glasses ANYWHERE I go. Freedom. I’m not stuck in my office. These glasses are amazing on a plane for watching movies. On a plane and want to work on your laptop without straining your neck? Confidential info on your computer? Dim your laptop screen and look at everything on the glasses. I’ve found lots of cool things do with them. One day I was watching one of your videos while chopping veggies using the Beam accessory and using sideview mode. I have the special prescription lenses inside them, which have blue blocker. My astigmatism and the light was making my eyes water without them. I don’t want them to be wireless. The glasses are lighter without a battery and one less thing for me to forget to charge. I could see AI glasses replacing hearing aids. Most hearing aids suck when you're in a noisy talkative crowd. If you had a pair of glasses with a camera, an AR screen on the lens for displaying text, and an AI model trained to read lips, that could come in really handy.
Thing is most deaf people are very good at lip reading, even many people who can hear are good at lip reading so I don't see an AI glass really creating a great impact, maybe little gadget but that's it
There's a set of headphones that isolate someone talking in front of you and cancel out all other sound. However nobody wants a massive pair of headphones on their head all day, and looking at a review video the sound was clear, but also sort of umm.... funky.
@@shukrantpatil I'm thinking of a niche use case where something like this might be helpful. I have a friend in her 60s born with genes that have caused her to lose her hearing as she ages. She's too old to learn sign language but she's able to get by using Google Live Transcribe on her phone, but it's awkward. If she could use a similar app with glasses so she can read what people are saying to her without having to break eye contact to look at her phone, I bet it would be an improvement. The problem with Live Transcribe is that it sucks when you're in a noisy environment. I thought lip reading AI using the camera might be a better option when there's too much background chatter.
Sensory substitution can replace hearing aids far better, and eventually will tie into AI anyway for selective feedback filtering - but both have their use cases!
The Apple and Meta versions are well polished corporate model$, and definitely have a use case. What makes the Brilliant Labs option stand out to me is how open the hardware is. Much more hackable. In terms of appearance, it seems to play more to the tech base than the mass market.

Maybe I am an outlier but I want AR glasses that give audio and video turn by turn directions for walking and in car use. Glasses that do translations of word and audio so I can use them when interacting with a person in in a museum on a walk and need to translate a sign or text. The ability to take decent photos of what I am looking at and use the same camera for AI functions. The ability to listen to music, podcast or translation while keeping ears open the rest of the time so no need for ear buds. The very last feature would be a large screen in good quality for watching movies or playing games. Although nice it is far down the list of wants for how I would actually use such glasses. Keeping hands free by not incorporating a cell phone for calls, text or picture taking is where I see an improvement over typical smart phone. Until AR glasses can keep my phone out of hand I don't see them as a viable replacement but just an add on accessory.
lenscrafters supports the razer anzu. i had them make some lenses. and the anzus are only like $35. also, you can get prescription lenses for the TCL Rayneos and XReals
All of the xreal types (xreal, nreal, tcl nxtwear, rokid) ones come with a set of inner lenses that you can bring in and have cut to prescription standards.
@@marsrocket To my understanding the image is supposed to look like a 120-140" display at 3 meters or about 9 feet viewing distance. Which equates to about the same as a 65-70" tv at the normal viewing distance of about 6-7 feet away. It's a very useable size for things that aren't meant to have couch friendly interfaces. Like most video games with console play in mind, most media consumption. But when it comes to reading a lot of text it's not the most ideal.
3:18 There's one huge question nobody has answered about stuff like this. How do you safely wash glasses like this when necessary? After all stuff happens, especially if you wear glasses with a prescription on a daily basis
14:13 The storage capacity on this glasses is huge and the capturing and storing capability must be of high quality. If this glasses can do all these things imagine what the future holds. Ai Glassses has a promising future. 😎💪🏾💯👍🏾 11:04 The RayNeo Ai glasses thickness seem to be appropriate and manageable. The thickness is perfect 👌🏾.
The issue with the Xreal Air 2 glasses is if you need glasses to see, yes the screen is huge but its still blurry. Once they can solve that, I will buy them again. (I returned my pair)
That's literally what Google glass was. People didn't like it because it was "social awkward", and is why these AR glasses have just recently resurged since the technology is more practical in a more "natural" glasses form.
Maybe the pairing problem has something to do with your other devices, such as when I try pairing headphones that I have used recently with my iPhone, pairing the headphone to my iPad wont work until I turn off bluetooth on my iPhone.
I'd love to have something smaller for VR, and even for AR in reading various text...but having very bad eyes these often don't work for me without an even larger set of lenses. Having a digital adjustment for VR and have digital lenses that adjust to my eyes would be a godsend since I spend the same every couple years to just see normally.
I am currently waiting till the middle of June for the xreal air 2 Ultra glasses combined with their brand new beam Pro. the Ultras have two cameras on the front for spatial mapping will be much closer to the Apple Vision Pro when they both hit the market it would be awesome for you to get it hold of them and see what you think.
They are coming along awesomely. There is a real need for these in the deaf community. Was it you that showed sign language translation earlier? Combine this into the large language model too. Realtime voice and visual translation on the go.
Me too Matt. In fact my wife and I both love them. I actually turned mine into bifocals with those rubber sticky reading lenses. I've done the same thing for our sunglasses as well.
The best thing about the Ray-Ban Meta glasses is that they don't look like tech. Things that look like tech weird your average person out. People were rightfully creeped out by Google Glass, but the Meta glasses look fantastic. So far I've only had one person notice that there was anything different with my glasses.
Great comparison... only glasses you were missing are the Viture Pro glasses... I'm in between the Xreal and Viture and can't decide which one to order...
I tried a few years ago the Epson Moverio glasses, really impressive idea but similar that the las pair tested the screen clarity is affected incredibly by the distance and position relative to your eyes, what is usually a pain to keep right as glases on everyday use constantly have to be adjusted...
I'd love to see this kind of video from specifically a productivity perspective. Which of these are the best companion for a laptop for doing work - media editing, word processing, coding, spreadsheets, etc. Are any of them high-res enough to throw up a few extra monitors? Do they have the software to do that?
3:11 okay those glasses that you were using to actually play a video game and it showed you the actual game that might be very close to something that can replace your big screen TV in the future if not right now. I considered home and watch my Netflix or Hulu or whatever and it would be as if I was looking at 108-in TV screen, well then we're on the road to replacing big screen TVs to a great extent.
I just wish someone would invent a pair of Smart Glasses with an interface that can be used by someone who needs reading glasses. A focusable interface, basically. So I can see around me normally without stuff on the lens being a blurred mess. It’ll never happen, but it’s a nice thought nonetheless. I absolutely love that last pair of glasses at a little after 13:50 where you test taking pictures/video. LOVE that it doesn’t have obnoxious lights shining forward when you do a photo or video.
so the issue with the x2 that you felt like you would need the ability to watch youtube or screen mirror would help change your inpression of them well you can, depending if you use Ios or Android but for ios i side loaded airpin pro to the x2 using scrcpy and enabling developer mode. i ran into the problem that without enabling DM it would only push the apps to sd/download. just fair warning the quality on videos is unimaginably painful to watch. it looks as if watching on a computer that has windows 95 with a generic video card from the 90s.. but it is possible if sideloading is something the user wants to do…
Matt, there are many things i envy about your job,but this is not one of them, thank you. However will u please review Even Realities G1 AR glasses? For a startup with v1 of their only product, this one looks like they hit the right balance and attention to detail. Thanks so much again for testing this bleeding edge stuff, I know it can be frustrating
Interesting video. I should point out that playing video over Bluetooth is pretty hard. That's why you either get a cable and watch video or have Bluetooth but no video.
I was hoping somehow I'd see the Xreal Air 2 Ultras in this video, but I've heard they're not out yet. Not sure. The Xreal Air 2 pros just add a lens darkening feature so you don't need the blackout cover. The Ultras seem to have cameras on them though like you were hoping.
Fantastic review --- I know I love my Meta Raybans -- completely agree with you on them. Also love my AVP. :) Question - with the RayNeo - are the apps only HUD (heads up display) or do they have the ability to maintain position? ie. do the glasses use SLAM or other techniques to get a mapping of the room, like the AVP, HoloLens, Quest, etc. Thanks!
I love to see more AR glasses with something like that ring controller.. or maybe they can make an app for watch for swipe gesture.. would be cool as well i guess..
Congrats on kicking it up over 600k subs, Matt! 🎉 Also, great review of what's available right now. I tried the Metas and none of the ones I tried look good on me so had to pass. Can't wait to see what this tech looks like in a few years though!
It´s good for POV videos. Just imagine the future when all people can film you and you do not know because is not like someone pointing a cellphone at you.
there are cameras on every building and stoplight out in public recording you. there is no difference. security cameras in public areas and buildings can actually be viewed by anyone by requesting public records!
Agree. Meta Ray-Ban glasses are really great. Bought a pair when they came out and use them daily. Perfect for runners; though haven't been brave enough to use them in the rain.
I would love to hear your opinion on the Vuzix Blade 2's. They're sadly a bit expensive at $1200 and you can get corrective lenses for it for an additional +$150 They only have a screen in a single eye (sadly, I do prefer both eyes) The Vuzix Blade 2 seems closest to the TCL RayNeo X2 that you tried out, though I think they look even more like normal glasses than those (not so bulky). I'm personally looking for a set of AR glasses that look more normal (as much as possible at least) that can also mirror one's phone. Mirroring one's phone while looking relatively normal seems to be VERY hard to find.... I sadly cannot find anything on actual testing of the battery life by any users with numbers all over the place (I would like them to last through a work shift...). If you are up for trying another set of Smart Glasses and are willing to review it, that would be amazing.....
There's a bunch already, why hasn't he done that? Maybe it's because he doesn't wanna pay 300 bucks for Replika, which used to be like 80 for the pro version and used to be mostly an AI friend and now is an AI wife/girlfriend that you can dress up in sexy outfits. I like having erotic roleplay and shit and even I'm sick of every update being more sexy clothing. They need to update the AI desperately along with adding hair that you don't need to pay for. Plus, maybe adding more rooms or pets that aren't ugly or the ability to have Replikas connect. The woman who created it made it so she could have conversations with her friend who died, but now it's solely a sexual thing.
If you get chance to review the Meizu MYVU discovery glasses, it would be great. Also Rayneo x2 lite should arrive sometime by September this year (at least it’s what the company says). Have you heard of the ant reality project? They have been working on some cool glasses too.
I don't think you understand the use case for the AR rayneo / brilliant. They aren't to watch RUclips. They are too replace your watch. Instead of looking down at your watch, the display is already in front of your eye. And since the display overlays the real world they have the extra benefit of AR. Except for RUclips, you'll never have to pull your phone out of your pocket or wear a watch.
12:03 The RayNeo ring appears to be a perfect accessory pairable device. Control media volume with it must be so kool. 13:49 The Visuals on RayNeo seems to be of a high quality and it's clear. I imagine Apple would make a identical model of RayNeo but a more improved and higher quality type.
For near-sighted people who don’t wear contacts, I know at some Walmarts who sell Ray-Bans, they will switch out the lens with prescribed lenses on the Meta glasses.
I wish I they could combine the ar capabilities of the G1 and that camera/Ai “look and…” feature from the meta raybans into one pair of glasses. I want a set of classes that are normal size glasses that have AR display, camera, and Ai connection. That is the trifecta that no company has done yet.
That's the only thing. As much a si like the idea of AI + glasses , there will be a lot of situations where they bring out the worst in people. That aside, they will also get stolen a lot. They'll have to figure out a way to stop that.
@makavelismith that's an easy fix. They will just be tracked by GPS at all times, not to mention the live feed of video at all times. Bluetooth low energy and a non removable battery means it doesn't even have to be on.
Hi Matt , a personal question. Now in January 2025, Which Ai glasses would you advise us to buy to perfom most common tasks like, X scrolling, simple phone tasks, q&A with llm , navigating the road, check some mails or notifications,... simple stuff that we do now on out phone 24/7 hours a day. This to safe my neck and back for us 40+ old guys with money to spend but not the life-time like the 20+ single-companies-CEO- to-be 😉. thx
For the past few years I've loved my Ray-Ban Stories, in the Wayfarer style, they've looked great and worked well. I've been considering getting the next gen Ray-Ban Meta. But, I've also always wanted AI driven AR projection on the lenses. I think they could do it if they focus on the augmented reality function as just being meant to enhance life through finding information and translations instead of trying to be immersive gamer glasses. I do like that the next gen "Meta" have better cameras and speakers.
Do these Glasses account for someone who needs corrective Prescription lenses to see in focus? These types of Glasses make going to the bathroom something to rethink.
0:15 Renember the tv show fringe? You should look up the term " audio ear cuffs". I have a pair of cheap ones, and completely forget i have them on. Audio quality is reasonable for bone conduction
I think it comes with a backpack that is the battery for all of the electronics your carrying also non of this stuff is water proof & if you get wet like in the rain slight mist you may experience slight shocks nothing major though the battery is only 220v so...
This video is in sore need of the Even Realities G1. It doesn't have a camera and it doesn't output audio but instead, it focuses on giving you a Heads-Up Display that pops up when you tilt your head upward (the angle is customizable). It can do navigation, notes, live translation, teleprompter mode, and some more. It's the only real competition with the Meta Raybans when it comes to daily wearers that don't look out of place, giving you a kind of hidden functionality only you can know about.
Great. Video full of information and research. I appreciate the fact that you pay for everything yourself. Whether it's good or bad for you. I also appreciate the fact that you give honest reviews. So thank you and best wishes for you. And your family through the holidays.
I'm glad I chose the Ray Ban Meta 🙌It's the best decision I could make. And I chose them because with them you won't be looking at a screen while, I live the best family moments, concerts or whatever I love to watch! I'll be able to see it directly and not a screen 🙌 It's the best
what i want is some vr glasses that let me do my work, where i can have multiple screens or have each application just kinda float wherever i stick them, and where i can comfortably read text. and most importantly have nothing to do with apple or facebook/meta.
Sorry Matt, but if you do hardware you should at least invest in an Android phone too. If you just sit there and show what isn't working you are wasting both of our time
@@Aus10c Not really. The majority of the world uses android. If you can't show an android experience, you aren't showing the experience that over 70% of people would be having.
Let’s be clear here🙄 the majority of the world uses android phones because they are cheap and mostly used in poorer countries(no offense). The majority of those people can’t afford or don’t know about these devices anyway🥱✌️
Try xrai on the xreal glasses, i think you have to have the pro licence to use ai chat but it does do translation on the fly. Not tried just using chatgpt yet but if you have the app you should be able to load it and talk. I use them for navigation on the bike, dark mode then ride.

Viture newest pro glasses has no edge blur , try it !
@@mantapdjiwa9768+1, they are great, big improvement over first edition. I just watched this video on mine. 😀
The ReyNeo X2 Lite will be out this Spring. They look a lot more natural and should have a lot of new features.
Subtitle real-time translation is most important feature for me and a killer app.
Im just mad that not ONE SINGLE COMPANY is choosing to do the scouter design from DBZ for these AI wearables. ITS RIGHT FUCKING THERE COME ON.
it would cost over $9000 though
That's literally what Google glass was. People didn't like it because it was "social awkward", and is why these AR glasses have just recently resurged since the technology is more practical in a more "natural" glasses form.
likely copyright protected and owned by goog..le so no one can compete.

Maybe the pairing problem has something to do with your other devices, such as when I try pairing headphones that I have used recently with my iPhone, pairing the headphone to my iPad wont work until I turn off bluetooth on my iPhone.
He also didn’t charge them fully.
I was hoping you’d review the Even Realities G1 glasses. Those look to be the best I’ve seen so far.
Check out the "Inmo Air 2" glasses. They are very similar to the TCL RayNeo X2 glasses.
You always keep it real! Thanks Matt Wolfe. I have the Meta Ray Bans and I love them.
What did u order?
@@saint_180 neither. I bought the Pico4 Ultra.
Nice comparison on the latest tech glasses. Thank you!
Meta Glasses #1 issue is using Llama 2 vs 3. Hopefully Meta will continue to continuously update it like Meta Quest 3
Thanks
Cheers for the comparisons Matt! I should have ordered the limited edition Wayfarer when had the chance, though sold out now ^^;
3:11 okay those glasses that you were using to actually play a video game and it showed you the actual game that might be very close to something that can replace your big screen TV in the future if not right now.
I considered home and watch my Netflix or Hulu or whatever and it would be as if I was looking at 108-in TV screen, well then we're on the road to replacing big screen TVs to a great extent.
Am I the only one who found it hilarious when Matt was wearing those frame-glasses? Absolutely funny! Very informative review. Thanks so much!
They look like Mr Potato head glasses. 😂
Vuzix Z100
Nice overview Matt. Thanks for all you do for your subs and take care!
Great Video! I was researching the subject yesterday. Most glasses seems bulky with limited battery.
so the issue with the x2 that you felt like you would need the ability to watch youtube or screen mirror would help change your inpression of them well you can, depending if you use Ios or Android but for ios i side loaded airpin pro to the x2 using scrcpy and enabling developer mode. i ran into the problem that without enabling DM it would only push the apps to sd/download. just fair warning the quality on videos is unimaginably painful to watch. it looks as if watching on a computer that has windows 95 with a generic video card from the 90s.. but it is possible if sideloading is something the user wants to do…
Matt, there are many things i envy about your job,but this is not one of them, thank you.
This was very useful, but it's conflating smart glasses and XR glasses, which are different feature sets.
0:00 Ray-Ban / Meta glasses

It's a shame the Viture Pro glasses weren't out in time for this video. Probably worth an update for these.
Just imagine the future where you're a paranoid lunatic who think everyone's out to get you.
Agree. Meta Ray-Ban glasses are really great. Bought a pair when they came out and use them daily. Perfect for runners; though haven't been brave enough to use them in the rain.
I would love to hear your opinion on the Vuzix Blade 2's.
They're sadly a bit expensive at $1200 and you can get corrective lenses for it for an additional +$150
They only have a screen in a single eye (sadly, I do prefer both eyes)
The Vuzix Blade 2 seems closest to the TCL RayNeo X2 that you tried out, though I think they look even more like normal glasses than those (not so bulky).
Thank you, this was Super helpful the comparative analysis and functionality of the different lenses is really helpful. Your Awesome
Very helpful. Thank you. It seems like the last pair are the future awaiting developers.
Thank you for making this video. This has been a topic I've been interested in and this was very thorough.
My esteem of you and your channel just took a step up. Good job
Looking forward to the next video: “I tried all AI wives so you don’t have to”. ChatGPT wife nags more than Claude’s offering.
Haha I'd watch that, actually a good video idea
Can't wait
Omg lol 😂
@nickgirdwood3082 Because there's stigma obviously, it's a near taboo topic
If you get chance to review the Meizu MYVU discovery glasses, it would be great. Also Rayneo x2 lite should arrive sometime by September this year (at least it’s what the company says).
Have you heard of the ant reality project? They have been working on some cool glasses too.
Thank you for the video. What do you think about the inmo AR 2 air glasses? It has a CPU in it. Available on Amazon.
Have you tried Even Realities G1 glasses? If not any plans to review them?
For briliant frame pairing, I guess you need that orange piece still attached
For near-sighted people who don’t wear contacts, I know at some Walmarts who sell Ray-Bans, they will switch out the lens with prescribed lenses on the Meta glasses.
The Brilliant frames remind me of the VR glasses that made an appearance in that weirdly wonderful mini-series, "Wild Palms."
This was helpful... appreciate your take on these!
Thank goodness you did this! Thank you!🎉 👏 👏😊
I wish I they could combine the ar capabilities of the G1 and that camera/Ai “look and…” feature from the meta raybans into one pair of glasses.
I want a set of classes that are normal size glasses that have AR display, camera, and Ai connection. That is the trifecta that no company has done yet.
Dope looking forward for the next wave 🌊
This makes me so excited for the future. Imagine when glasses with VR180 recording are small enough to look like regular glasses...
I agree 💯👍🏾
Thanks a lot for this Matt. Saved me $350, as I'll be canceling my Frame pre-order. Loving the Meta Ray Bans as well.
Need a clear safety version of the Ray-Bans. With a clear around eye dust filter please
Those should be super handy after someone attacks you for invading privacy. The future is gonna be so much fun!
Attacks you for invading privacy where?
@@makavelismithWhat are you on about?
This is actually the first time I've seen a video of the RayNeo with "dimmer" shades packaged. I really thought it didn't have those.
This to safe my neck and back for us 40+ old guys with money to spend but not the life-time like the 20+ single-companies-CEO- to-be 😉. thx
This was awesome. Now I want to see you head outside and talk to people as you use it.
I love your insight and run-down of the tech. Would you mind sharing the current COST of each one?
Have you heard about the AR VR Visor headset from the company immersed, they’re supposed to come out later this year.
The Ray-bans do. You can get prescription lenses as well as transition lenses if you want them for indoor and outdoor. Don't know about the other ones
This video is priceless! Very helpful for technology shopping! 🎉
Great. Video full of information and research. I appreciate the fact that you pay for everything yourself. Whether it's good or bad for you. I also appreciate the fact that you give honest reviews. So thank you and best wishes for you. And your family through the holidays.
For the rayneo x2 you can use youtube on the edge browser
Imagine Meta Ray-Ban glasses coming with the waveguide displays like the ones ReyNeo has.
I'm glad I chose the Ray Ban Meta 🙌It's the best decision I could make. And I chose them because with them you won't be looking at a screen while, I live the best family moments, concerts or whatever I love to watch! I'll be able to see it directly and not a screen 🙌 It's the best
Watching Matt demonstrate the XReal air 2… in the garden… on my Xreal air 2 😎
what i want is some vr glasses that let me do my work, where i can have multiple screens or have each application just kinda float wherever i stick them, and where i can comfortably read text.
and most importantly have nothing to do with apple or facebook/meta.
Hey Matt, do you have a pair of Ray-Bans for indoors? I am loving mine too. I have transitions.
Which one do you recommend for live translation?
Try out the AIO. The device is similar to Humane but seems a lot more usable.
I thought this would be some sort of sham hidden ad, but you I should have known you would keep it real. Nice video.
Maybe the frame glasses have the same focal points as HWS?
Sorry Matt, but if you do hardware you should at least invest in an Android phone too. If you just sit there and show what isn't working you are wasting both of our time
Right !?
It is helpful. If they are not seamless…..that tells enough
