Here is a story Of hope and of glory. He's eighteen years old And well I fell in love. But after that, Where have you gone, from me? The one that I loved endlessly. We used to have a life, But now it's all gone. Mystify... Does it have to be so cold in Ireland? Does it have to be so cold in Ireland, for me? Are they ready for me? 🎵🎶🎵🎶 Where have you gone, from me? The one that I loved endlessly. We were to have a child. Yesterday's gone. Well I knew the time would come. When I'd have to leave. Go on. Look what they've done to me. They've taken my hand... And it's killing me. Killing me, killing me, killing me! Does it have to be so cold in Ireland? Does it have to be so cold in Ireland, for me? Are they ready for me? But I'm afraid I'm returning to Ireland. I'm afraid I'm returning to Ireland. I see, that there is nothing for me. There is nothing for me.
It's feckin freezing in the middle of Summer in Australia, too!! As a child of the troubles born in 1974 Ulster (County Down) and relocating to the land of Oz as a young lad, I fell in love with The Cranberries when my cousin Braefni sent me a bootleg tape of a band that'd played a concert in Derry in 91 which was a good 3 years before the song 'Linger' was first heard on JJJ, Australia's government owned radio station which played predominantly what was called alternative music that the big budget Top 40 stations wouldn't touch! It took only a few weeks before the masses couldn't deny the song's simple brilliance any more and 'Linger' made it's way to the charts. However, it wasn't until 'Dreams' exploded Down Under that The Cranberries could be ignored no longer. I was already a huge fan of Sinead O'Connor (sorry, I don't know how to make my keyboard let me write letters with inflection indicators) after hearing 'Mandinka' only months after arriving in this hot, strange place I now love and call my home( "Don't they keep those kangaroos for pet dogs? My birthday'll be in Winter and Christmas in Summer? were some of the louder questions and laments), so any new Irish band that wasn't Ubloody2 was very welcome. Anyway, I fell in love with the music and the lady with the strange, warbling yodel who sang for them. Anyway, as soon as I heard 'Linger' I cut school, went into the city and bought 'Everybody Else Is Doing It....' on vinyl; which I still have. A few years later was the year of 'Zombie' and it was back to the city, though this time it was CD. There was a special offer on where if you bought 'No Need To Argue' on CD (which were still very expensive, they threw in the CD of 'Everybody Else....' for free! I can still remember the first time I listened to it: I had to do an assignment on any aristocratic historical figure who'd met their end at a death sentence and I chose Erzebet Batory, the 'Vampire Countess'. I was so engrossed in my reading that I didn't push repeat when the disk finished as I had been doing and 90secs after the song 'No Need To Argue' finished, I heard this strange, banshee like guitar sound and discovered the gem we've all just listened to and it quickly became my favourite.I've loved The Cranberries for over 20 something years now and like millions of others was totally devastated by the news of her passing last week. I was so pissed off that it was just a footnote on Australian news; literally a footnote written at the bottom of the screen as some hairsprayed harpy raved on about Trumps latest shite fight. I rang my sister in tears as soon as I heard and have been playing all of their music nonstop ever since. I decided to come to RUclips tonight to talk about their early work and also to see if anyone else knew of this song; everything else is on bloody RUclips, after all! I was gladdened to find many fans but saddened that so many people had gotten the lyrics wrong. I read things like 'Are they ready for me? Are they ready for me?....', got royally jobbied and sat down and wrote this. Dolores didn't have a speech impediment! She didn't pronounce ready as weddy! So now I'm going to go back to the post with the 'lyrics' and write the proper ones. These people had obviously never seen The Cranberries in concert because whenever she sings it she tells the story of how it's about a young love gone wrong, shaving off her hair ('they've taken my hands' is what Lyrical Genius thinks!) and running away to the city; all the while being worried that she was too changed to go back to old friends. OK, I'll leave off boring you now. I love you, Dolores, rest easy, child.
I'm not sure of other parts of the world but this was the mystery song on 'No Need to Argue' in Australia. So, the last song on the album would finish., there would be about a minute of silence and then this untitled (back then) song would come on. I remember listening to the album for the first time with two uni friends. We had smoked some strong grass and this song starting scared the bejesus out of us.
I was around junior highschool when I first heard Cranberries song, Zombies. I immediately smitten. Bought my first Cranberries album cassette, and listen to it almost every night before went to sleep during my junior highschool. Now I'm middle age man, every time listening to Dolores' voice, always bring back sweet and bitter memory of youth, even more so now that she passed away, rest in peace, Dolores. Love from Indonesia.
Damn! Condolences to your family, friends and your fandom, thank you for all the musical joy you've given us , rip beautiful 💋🌹🌠⭐🌀🌹🌻⚡💞👑🌿🍃🌸🌺😘✨✨✨✨ fly high Gorgeous 🌹

This is the perfect song for her death and being brought back to Ireland for burial! The chorus anyway could apply. It is one of THE BEST songs they did and it should have been on the original "No Need to Argue" album...Dolores' vocals are supreme on it!
My best song from the best band ever, and I'm a hardcore/Death-metal head, but i'm a (normal dude) but damn I would say these and the Tossers got me into this, this then the Pogues, Flogging molly, Dropkick murphys

Julia Neafcy no....but after spending much of monday reading old articles and interviews, she has been I'll with back problems and pain, spoken of suicide often, her deep depression and breakdowns, her battle with the bottle, sleeping pills, being diagnosed ad Bipolar 5 years ago, and spoke about her being raped for years from age 8. And said she " guesses" she stays alive for her kids....who are grown...and her most recent fb post of Jan 3, she is saying " goodbye" which is odd....and said shed going back to Ireland, yet, she was in london recording Zombie with a group she liked. To me...just me...the cues are there, to me. Maybe it was her heart...

Yesterday's gone.
Well I knew the time would come.
When I'd have to leave.
Go on.
Look what they've done to me.
They've taken my hand...
And it's killing me.
Killing me, killing me, killing me!
Does it have to be so cold in Ireland?
