"And when we meet Of which I'm sure we will, all that was there will be there still. I'll let it pass and hold my tongue and you will think that I moved on". Pure pain and lost love turned into amazing poetry!
Oh that voice only one Dido that voice will always be remembered even though I am eighty Six. Some of the performers I have listened too are gone but not forgotten, thank God for my decent mind at my age. I am thankful for that.
I’m not quite half your age yet Ronald but I (now) hope that I make it that far & hope to stay sharp as you seem to have done. I wish you that the best year are yet to come & good luck on another 40 buddy!
This is the song that taught me it's okay to stay in love with someone even when you've moved on from them. It might be the most valuable lesson I've learned in my entire life. Call me a stupid sap, but I don't stop loving just because a relationship has ended. And I don't want to pretend otherwise. This song made that feeling okay. There's no way to truly express how important this song is.
I had a simular realisation once, only slightly different: I realized that my feelings towards somebody where not contingent upon their feelings for me. They may hate or thoroughly dislike me. It has no consequence at all at how I feel about them. This has also been one of the most liberating thoughts about my relation towards others I ever had.
@@malgorzataswiontkowska808 Heh. Reminds me of "Born in the USA." A lot of people think it's patriotic. Somewhat fewer realize it's a critique. And even fewer understand it's both. Good songs make us think.
@@malgorzataswiontkowska808 I would suggest it's rather the non-acceptance of heartbreak. As long as you don't give up being in love, the heart is still intact. Sure, the one sided love thing is a coping mechanism which you could call the denial stage of grief, but that's the thought anyway.
It has been 20 years since this song released in 2003. I remember that it accompanied me through a hard time. This morning for no reason it comes to my mind, still so touching and timeless. Thank you, Dido.
Dido is indeed known for her beautiful voice and emotive music. Her songs like "Thank You" and "White Flag" have resonated with many people over the years. And I’m a fan of her music indeed. ❤
lol, I've searched for this song something like a month, but I found it just now thanks to some videos on RUclips like"songs 2000" and I did it till"songs 2015". Man, now I've found a lot of songs that reminds me my childhood, I'm becoming too nostalgic
I'm not an English native speaker and I remember using some Dido's songs to practise the language back when I was a teenager. However, I never paid close attention to the lyrics. Now that I'm listening to her music once again, I can't help but get amazed by how profound her songs were. It almost feels like I'm listening to her for the very first time!
Just seen Dido on TV and it brought this song back to me. I had a terminal cancer and was quite ill in hospital. The words in the chorus though were an inspiration when it was played. And I won't put my hands up and surrender There will be no white flag above my door. I am still around and enjoying your music. Thanks Dido
This song so says what most of us are burdened with. A lot of us have someone we love and lost that we really never really got over with. Someone we carry in our hearts till the day we die.
The only girl I ever loved was so long ago. She was 16 and I was 22. She was beautiful and when our eyes met it was met to be. After almost 50 years she is coming back to me. i wait for her. She is in Texas and I'm in Arizona. She has told me that i was the only man she ever really loved. i pray the Lord brings us back together. Together until one of us dies.
@@bigbilltoady412 I’m going through that with someone now at 29. After sharing multiple glances, we first spoke and there was immediate chemistry and she wanted more and was waiting for me to reciprocate. Sad part is, I couldn’t make a move yet for circumstantial reasons but she didn’t realize why and it hurt her. She’s been mad at me ever since and I hope that one day I can tell her how I feel before it’s too late.
True, you are so right. Maybe its because we LOVE and enjoy the idea of been in LOVE, yet we think it is because of the person we are with or we had. Love give us the oportunity to explore a whole spectrum of emotions and allows us to choose the one that makes us feel exactly like this song... to never give up on LOVE, never give up on ourselves.
Dido was one of my mom's favorite artists. She would sing this song every time it played on the radio. Her birthday and death anniversary is next month so lately her favorite songs have been popping up again. I really miss her.
You, me and thousands of unaware listeners can say to the running generation that this kind of masterpiece could happen one time in hundreds years of time comparing to the whole history of music
Still listening to Dido after so many years. She's amazing and her songs are touching and make you feel like you are there! Keep it up Dido. We love you!!!
Good to know, but no one asked for your taste in singers tho, you like what you like without throwing hate to others who like the song singed by other singers. I hope u understand.
Damn. Vocal acrobatics and singers working in there skill makes a song worse now I guess lol. Like this is a great song, just don’t understand your comment lol
@@flameron1 You either believe an artist or you don’t Hitting high’s and wobbling is to me many others annoying & I guess I’m used to singers that don’t do this, maybe now and again, but today it’s fashionable, but if the song is sang with emotion, it shouldn’t need a crescendo & fireworks We are all different and if you like that then great It’s only my opinion, & I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I have a theory that less is more I go to see live music every week & I love all those songs played with an acoustic guitar & a voice & no impersonating either Adel or Ed Sherran & simply sing, you may well laugh but my top singers are Tom Waites & Kim Carnes because I believe them as I do Bob Dylan also Cheers

I've been searching for this song for 5 YEARS! I had completely given up until yesterday I heard it in a shop. I went absolutely CRAZY. I noted the lyrics and here I am!

This song was the first song I heard when I came to America after being adopted at age 8 from China. I heard this in a Home Depot store and I immediately wanted to know who sang this; such a beautiful angelic voice. It took me a year to find the artist, at the time when Shazam wasn’t a thing and RUclips had just started.
I hope that you have a wonderful life with your adoptive family, and reach your dreams, goals and full potential. I’m glad you’re here from one American ❤❤
@@dougs57 Very kind of you to express that, thank you. Unfortunately, my adoptive parents were very abusive: narcissistic, physical, verbal, rage, and mental😢. I have been in a lot of therapy sessions because of the abusive upbringing.
It was the time of crossing into 21st century ... Millennial optimism ... Her music, Air, Coldplay, Radiohead, Massive Attack, PJ, ... made us feeling we are floating into new soft limitless era... Who would imagine that the reversal will happen, a kind of pitfall and degradation in music (as it is in the most of culture), in a way that it is hard to find such a unique melody or a true expression ... Thank you, Dido 💗
Couldn't have said it better. Even though I was born in 93, I feel that 90s and early 00s were really a special time in human history, nothing would ever match that vibe. Music, movies, pop culture, technology they truly reached their peak then and everything sucks now.
IMHO, the "White Flag" is Dido's best song yet. Words can't describe the beauty of this song, which represented the unconditional love with soothing music and simple music arrangements, pure nostalgic! 🎶❤️
I love the song, but the video takes it in a bad direction when it pans from him to the wall, her face circled and the word "MINE" written under it. That is stalker level unhealthy obsession.
My mom used to listen to this when she was pregnant with me and she had her album. We listened to it since I was 4 (the earliest I can remember) and now at 18 I’ve been listening to it more for about a year. I realized that this song means so much to me because my mom passed away and I feel a sense of comfort listening to songs that she liked and that we watched/listened to. ❤
I also came here because Dido makes me think of my mom, who passed in December 😔❤ It is so hard to lose a mum❤ I hope your journey of healing is going alright ❤
Dido's most melodic song. A song of defiance, to not give up on your love even while recognising that relationship soured because of you and you don't want to cause "mess and destruction" to your love again. Yet still holding out hope and not surrendering.
I went through my divorce in 2007 and this was what was playing. We had a 3 year daughter and I was absolutely devastated. Her voice takes me back to those moments when I didn't think I could ever get through. My daughter left for college this week and she's thriving. We made it and Dido voice feels like my inner strength now talking to me. Pretty fucking awesome ; - )
Well done my friend!!.............fabulous inner strength.................stay strong not only for yourself..........but for your daughter who will no doubt look up to her dad!
Yes. I ended up as a single dad. My daughter finished uni and has a great life now and is happy. We can do it man, and once through the storm, life can be better than it ever was . Love of our child is above all else there is.
She showed me this song. 15 or more years ago. I didn't understand that this was her way of say she wanted to be loved. Unfortunately I was a fool. She is one of the ones who got away. I remember hearing this when my wife left me. Boy the lyrics cut like a knife. They still do. She'll be long gone this February, 10 years now and I think of what became of her and her life and the people she let twist and destroy her and I just feel so sorry for what became of her and what I once had. There's nothing as painful as life and surviving.

internet, video games, movies, shows, the feeling of everything back before 2010 was amazing. its like the world froze in place around 2012 and everything became stale. it feels like theres zero originality or passion anymore. there are some new things out there but it still feels different than what it was. theres no middleground anymore or something. its almost like we used to control the entertainment industry and now it controls us because of how normal and beyond popular it has become, and even negative hate online brings attention to it as well. i wish i could see how our world is gonna be in 100 years because it sounds like its going to be a shit show and i want to watch it all unfold

This was me and my aunt's song. I lost her in 2008. We sung it all the time together on singstar. She was an amazing person and I loved her immensely. 8 years later and this song still hurts like hell. Caroline Polachek captured what Dido means to millenials (and others) perfectly: “I know what Dido represents as an archetype, what she represents to people whose childhood and early teenage years, like mine, were so tinged and comforted by the sound of her voice in these important moments in our youth. I know how healing and emotional and grounding her music has been to so many people.” And here we are, coming back to YT comment section, to remark on those teenage years, still going through our everyday life with the sounds of Dido's music in our ears. 💜

❤
I had a simular realisation once, only slightly different: I realized that my feelings towards somebody where not contingent upon their feelings for me. They may hate or thoroughly dislike me. It has no consequence at all at how I feel about them. This has also been one of the most liberating thoughts about my relation towards others I ever had.
From reading the other comments, I don't think most people realize that this song is about heartbreak

True, you are so right. Maybe its because we LOVE and enjoy the idea of been in LOVE, yet we think it is because of the person we are with or we had. You either believe an artist or you don’t
Hitting high’s and wobbling is to me many others annoying & I guess I’m used to singers that don’t do this, maybe now and again, but today it’s fashionable, but if the song is sang with emotion, it shouldn’t need a crescendo & fireworks
We are all different and if you like that then great
It’s only my opinion, & I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I have a theory that less is more
I go to see live music every week & I love all those songs played with an acoustic guitar & a voice & no impersonating either Adel or Ed Sherran & simply sing, you may well laugh but my top singers are Tom Waites & Kim Carnes because I believe them as I do Bob Dylan also
Cheers

This song always makes me so nostalgic. There's such vulnerability and strength at the same time in it. It forever will stay the soundtrack to my 2003 impossible love.
Me too
[Verse 1]
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you
Or tell you that
But if I didn't say it, well, I'd still have felt it
Where's the sense in that?
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
[Chorus]
But I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
[Verse 2]
I know I left too much mess and destruction
To come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can't talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of "it's over"
Then I'm sure that that makes sense
[Chorus]
But I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
[Bridge]
And when we meet
Which I'm sure we will
All that was there
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on
[Chorus]
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
[Outro]
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

internet, video games, movies, shows, the feeling of everything back before 2010 was amazing. its like the world froze in place around 2012 and everything became stale. it feels like theres zero originality or passion anymore. there are some new things out there but it still feels different than what it was. theres no middleground anymore or something. its almost like we used to control the entertainment industry and now it controls us because of how normal and beyond popular it has become, and even negative hate online brings attention to it as well. i wish i could see how our world is gonna be in 100 years because it sounds like its going to be a shit show and i want to watch it all unfold
My mom was in her 20s in the 90s. I was a little kid when I remember her jamming to this song. Now I'm jamming to this in my 20s in 2024. The circle of life I'm telling you.
This song came out in 2003
BRO ME TOO ITS CRAZY 😭
I'm still jamming to this kid. Not getting older anytime soon.
Songs never age.😂
@@TerryWalker-lc1ueok but still relevant. I was born 94 and jammed to a burnt cd my mom’s friend made me for my boombox. Be nicer.
The ending is meaningful. Imagine how many people who don’t have the gut to express their love to their love interest.
i like your message .! my name is alex.. i feel the same way but i work this this girl i cannot express love to her ..but she always showing me the signs. give me an advice please. "i dont want to burn in fire again" (((.............)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
It kills me everyday. People that say i love you multiple times a day. And do nothing but hurt each other, its most young relationships these days.
I told her! All I got was a restraining order.
Me!!
I was a little kid when this was popular, so it’s one of those songs that gives me that warm fuzzy nostalgia feeling. What ever happened to women like Dido and Alanis Morrisette and the likes? Need more music like this today
Well I feel old now, so thanks for that 😂
I couldn´t speak propper English as a kid so we were chanting: ´I will go down with this shit.´ took me 20 years.
Dido had a new album out in the uk in the last couple years and went to number 1. She's doing well, her 2 biggest selling albums from the early 00s sold a combined 4.5 million copies just in the uk
Gee, she can really sing, and she's a very good looking woman, isn't she.
We are in a very ugly time. Art is ugly. Music is ugly. Politics is ugly. People must change before kingdoms may change.
I remember listening to this song my whole high school years. I had some troubles sleeping, mostly due to stress, this song was the only song that put me to sleep.
This was me and my aunt's song. I lost her in 2008. We sung it all the time together on singstar. She was an amazing person and I loved her immensely. 8 years later and this song still hurts like hell. They played it on the radio on the radio, for the first time I brought fourth a smile rather than a tear. God how much I miss her.
Lost my aunt Summer 2014 from cardiac arrest. Like a second mother to me.

“Me, too” Time flies but memories last forever :))
Caroline Polachek captured what Dido means to millenials (and others) perfectly: “I know what Dido represents as an archetype, what she represents to people whose childhood and early teenage years, like mine, were so tinged and comforted by the sound of her voice in these important moments in our youth. I know how healing and emotional and grounding her music has been to so many people.”
And here we are, coming back to YT comment section, to remark on those teenage years, still going through our everyday life with the sounds of Dido's music in our ears. 💜
We’re not searching for old songs…we’re searching for memories ❤️
High school :(
I didn't realized but it's true 🙏🏻❤😢
Truly so.... the new generation doesn't know great singers like Dido... new musics can't compare to this
Indeed
This plays at my job a lot
I'm watching in March 2022. I still love Dido and her voice and I am introducing my 9 year old boy to her sounds.
