Same here. Few songs are essentially perfect and get you from the first time. This one was just amazing. Same with Smiths (There is a light...), James (Sit Down)...
True, I never heard of this artist. My husband passed away recently and I finally was going for a short drive when this came on the radio. The leaves were changing and this time of year he loved. What a beautiful melody against the backdrop of the fall colors. I felt it was a sign from him that everything would be okay and that he was okay, wherever he is. I have this on my play list and I think of my drive everytime I hear it.
Agreed. I heard an Alanis Morissette song the other day, and I came to listen to the Cranberries, Alanis, and Natalie Merchant. Nostalgia slowly overwhelmed me, and it felt great.

Mine too... As a man I understand exactly what he was feeling, although it's a song that is uniquely special, with a very special effect on those who allow it into their hearts.
Dolores O’Riordan wrote “Linger” about her first kiss. As a result of the kiss - which happened in a nightclub - O’Riordan fell in love. A few weeks later, the man she kissed went up to the dance floor with another girl right in front of O’Riordan. In an interview with Gerry Ryan in 2002 O’Riordan said: “I was heartbroken! I was only 18 and it was just a kiss, you know? At that age it’s heartbreaking.” Since Dolores O’Riordan was only 18 when she wrote the song, it depicts a sense of innocent youthfulness. This youthfulness is perfectly translated into the melancholic vibes of “Linger”.
This song creates a feeling that very few others can. Not sure if its nostalgia, melancholy, lovesick, etc but I always feel something unique when I listen to it.

Lyrics | The Cranberries - Linger If you, if you could return Don't let it burn Don't let it fade I'm sure I'm not being rude But it's just your attitude It's tearing me apart It's ruining every day I swore, I swore I would be true And honey so did you So why were you holding her hand? Is that the way we stand? Were you lying all the time? Was it just a game to you? But I'm in so deep You know I'm such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger? Oh, I thought the world of you I thought nothing could go wrong But I was wrong, I was wrong If you, if you could get by Trying not to lie Things wouldn't be so confused And I wouldn't feel so used But you always really knew I just want to be with you And I'm in so deep You know I'm such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger? And I'm in so deep You know I'm such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger? You know I'm such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

My best friend's brother was buried Saturday ( 29th June, '24) and this was our dedication to him during the service. The Cranberries were his favorite!
One of my finest memories was in my college years when this song came on the radio in my buddy's car on our way home the morning after a night of heavy drinking in the city. The Sun was shining, the windows were open, it was summertime, we were on the highway, and it was the best hangover ever. Something about this song and that moment really captured the spirit of that time in my life. So that's what I always remember when I hear this amazing song.
This song captures a very specific moment for me as well, but a very somber and lonely summer at a very young age where I was scared for my future while staying in a dilapidated building up north. This song is hauntingly beautiful and it touches me in a way that I'm not articulated enough to put into words.
It's truly one of the most beautiful songs ever. Dolores O'Riordan's hauntingly captivating voice and the heartfelt lyrics make it a timeless masterpiece.
linger was one of my dad’s favorite songs. we used to listen to the cranberries together. he passed nearly two years ago, and listening to this song, i regularly imagine putting my head on his shoulder and looking at the sky. it fills my heart with peace.
This was my favorite song on one of the first CDs I purchased as a poor teenager. The melody faded into the background as I entered adulthood. Today I watch the music video for the first time, floating on waves of nostalgia, staring at the doorstep to middle age. Farewell my youth. I grow weary of the feelings that this song so poignantly relays.
Every time I listen to The Cranberries, I get mixed feelings of love, pain and some unexplained hole in my heart. Every time I hear Dolores beautiful and powerful voice, my heart aches. Miss you queen
This song has helped me heal from a breakup. I hope others can listen as I have. All one can do is give love to those that you feel are deserving. If that love is not given back that’s okay. If you truly love them, you can see them beyond the connection you share ❤️ stay strong brothers and sisters
I've always thought this song was a masterpiece. The voice, the lyrics, the way it can make you feel sorrow, loss, rejection, maybe a little remorse, but also kind of relieved, and at peace with all of it at the same time.
Rest in peace the voice of a woman that was my companion for so many sad and melancholic moments, because she was there with me, crying and torn apart. RIP Dolores
My mother loved this Song. The Cranberries was her favorite band. She passed almost a month ago. She was 39. R.I.P Mom Edit: Today is March 5, today is her 40th birthday
I was born in 1970. Missed the Beatles, Elvis, Benny Goodman, and the unfortunate men who died in that winter plane crash. I came of age during disco, Blondie, Talking Heads, and Duran Duran. Yes, the '80s were great. Every age has its signature sound. I'm so glad mine was sharp and easy to dance to.
She is one of the very that can actually sing with out autotune. Go listen to this in a live concert. I remember when this came out. Her voice is woohoo distinctive an different from the artist at that time an to this day.
Dear whoever is reading this, we don't know each other and there is a strong possibility we might never meet, but I wish nothing but the best and happiness for you ❤️🤙
So true, the 90s were the last really good decade for music. NIrvana, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, REM and U2 all at their peak. You also had the likes of Depeche Mode, GNR, Metallica, Prince and Madonna still doing good stuff. You could also add AIR, DJ Shadow, Alanis, Tupac, Biggie, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, NIN, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, RHCP, and Fugees.
it-really -hurts Absolutely!! I was in college when this came out, and I had just started working at a record store in one of our local malls (you know, back in the 90s, when music was good, pure, had soul, and working in a record store required actual knowledge of music, even music from before you were born, and not just the same popular music/songs being played to death, over and over, like today, and the past decade, because there isn't much good music to choose from today!) I loved that job! I mean, where else could to work, and get paid to listen to awesome music, and help people find good music they can enjoy? Nowhere else!!
To listen and enjoy, even today she stands out above the lords and sia's out there, who all think they sound unique but really are just versions of Lana Del Rey! Delores was truly a one off!
@@chadchadson2368 I'd argue that the 1950s was the peak, but the 90s was the last decade of a truly 'human' civilization. All traditional values crumbled at the onset of the 2000s. If I could live in a loop, I'd pick 1999.

It's ruining every day
I swore, I swore I would be true
And honey so did you
So why were you holding her hand?
Is that the way we stand?
Were you lying all the time?
Was it just a game to you?
But I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
Oh, I thought the world of you
I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong, I was wrong
If you, if you could get by
Trying not to lie
Things wouldn't be so confused
And I wouldn't feel so used
But you always really knew
I just want to be with you
And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

I don't know what to say. But, thank you for the unique journey we went on as a Cranberries family. Rest In Peace. We miss you, dearly.
Before in we my hearts
I remember this song when was played in brazilian soap opera "A viagem"
r.i.p
Her voice was one that helped define the 90's. I guess we all have our demons......
I can speak of it personally when I say saying "Hey how are you?" can mean much more than you think.
This must be the most beautiful song ever, sung by the Cranberries. I play this song when I go to sleep, and when I wake up. So refreshing, and totally mellow.
Charles Norris: Would that be the Charles Norris of martial arts fame or Charles Norris the First Medical Examiner of New York ? Whichever one it is, I agree with your comment.
All just a coincidence.
Charles Norris You clearly haven't heard the Cocteau Twins ;)
there s always THAT guy who can't just let a statement be, always with the RUclips one up. just relax, we've all seen someone hotter, but we're talking about this girl right now. can't we talk about the cocktwo twins tomrw? just let it linger for now can we?

Had to relive some of my favorite memories through Dolores and the cranberries. RIP and saddened for the loss of a unique voice and talent.
My best friend's brother was buried Saturday ( 29th June, '24) and this was our dedication to him during the service. The Cranberries were his favorite!

I'm taking a walk in my mind. The weather is great! I can smell the air. Oh yeah, and I'm wearing my jean jacket.

LOVELY MOMENT!!!
Summer is just lovely
Sounds great champ
This song captures a very specific moment for me as well, but a very somber and lonely summer at a very young age where I was scared for my future while staying in a dilapidated building up north. This song is hauntingly beautiful and it touches me in a way that I'm not articulated enough to put into words.
Scott Weiss what a great memory
Eveytime i hear this song it reminds me of how precious and brittle the "right woman" is
It's truly one of the most beautiful songs ever. Dolores O'Riordan's hauntingly captivating voice and the heartfelt lyrics make it a timeless masterpiece.
Agreed. RIP to the wonderful and iconic Dolores! 🙏❤
Yes.
One of the most beautiful songs tbh...it hits you right there
This is one of the rare songs that bring back to me the emotions that hard to describe.
So many emotions attached to it!
It's hard to describe, but so beautiful...

Beautiful music, masterpiece
linger was one of my dad’s favorite songs. we used to listen to the cranberries together. he passed nearly two years ago, and listening to this song, i regularly imagine putting my head on his shoulder and looking at the sky. it fills my heart with peace.
I'm sorry for your loss, I loss my dad recently, it sounds like your dad had a good friend and family with at least you.
I adore this beautiful memory. thank you for this comment!
This makes me happy and sad... just like the song. Cherish your memories.
Sorry for your loss cherish the memories
So sorry for your loss. Such a great song. May you have great memories when you hear this song.
Well said.
@@MrConocon Thank you.

Damn brother. You got me right in the feels with that comment.

Every time I listen to The Cranberries, I get mixed feelings of love, pain and some unexplained hole in my heart. Every time I hear Dolores beautiful and powerful voice, my heart aches. Miss you queen
Yes it does that to me too. Not sure why. But that doesn't matter, does it.

Well said well bloody said for real
RIP Dolores……You will be remembered forever in your wonderful songs and by your iconic voice.
You gotta get over it. I Loved her for 30 years.
I always thought this song was about farts.

Rest in peace the voice of a woman that was my companion for so many sad and melancholic moments, because she was there with me, crying and torn apart. RIP Dolores
My mother loved this Song. The Cranberries was her favorite band.
She passed almost a month ago. She was 39. R.I.P Mom
Edit: Today is March 5, today is her 40th birthday
I pray for her 🙏
May God have her
Too young. RIP to your mom!
So sorry for your loss 😞

This is timeless, weightless, and simply perfect. If it wasn't for music (like this) this place would be unbearable..
One of the most evocative songs of the decade. Rest in peace Dolores.

dare i say... the century...
❤️😓🌹
The 90's were such a special time and place to be a part of. We had no idea how great we had it.
Truer words….
So true! So lucky I grew up in the 90’s! Absolutely magical times 😊👍🏻
Agree
I was born in 1970. Missed the Beatles, Elvis, Benny Goodman, and the unfortunate men who died in that winter plane crash. I came of age during disco, Blondie, Talking Heads, and Duran Duran. Yes, the '80s were great. Every age has its signature sound. I'm so glad mine was sharp and easy to dance to.
@@richardburke5942 all these moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
So this is what music is? Almost forgot. Such a gorgeous song. So terribly sad she is gone.
This is what music WAS, I'm afraid. Nowadays, popular music has taken a rather unfortunate dip in quality.
She is one of the very that can actually sing with out autotune. Go listen to this in a live concert. I remember when this came out. Her voice is woohoo distinctive an different from the artist at that time an to this day.
Dear whoever is reading this, we don't know each other and there is a strong possibility we might never meet, but I wish nothing but the best and happiness for you ❤️🤙
Alrite mate, if you say so. Have fun an' that.
Same to you!, much peace, and happiness your way :)
Thank you so much
Thank you.

No way... 80's and 90's music is much better than today's
60s and 70s
+ClandestineOstrich I agree with you
+ClandestineOstrich where is this "good new music"?
I can't see it anywhere :/
@ClandestineOstrich Yeah but those older styles were based on more older styles anyway! :)
She's gone but never to be forgotten she is a legend she deserves a recognition for her beautiful voice she will always be in my heart
What a waste, gone so soon! She still rocks! Everbody enjoy her voice!
Her voice just like angel
A true legend a real angel
Same :( x
Yes, indeed.
Love this song born in 96 came out three years before I was born 90,s all day .
When the music takes you back to those special times in your life you know its good.
it-really -hurts is true.
Amen
it-really -hurts, so true.
it-really -hurts Absolutely!!
This is the best comment she could hope for from all of us sir
I love you Dolores O’Riordan! You’ll live on eternally with your music and beautiful voice 🙌🏼🙏🏼😊

her voice and music will stay here for us and future generations to listen.
To listen and enjoy, even today she stands out above the lords and sia's out there, who all think they sound unique but really are just versions of Lana Del Rey! Delores was truly a one off!
Alexandra Starr Photography very sad news 😥
It is sad, but at least we do still have her music with us, which will never pass away!

@@chadchadson2368 I'd argue that the 1950s was the peak, but the 90s was the last decade of a truly 'human' civilization.
All traditional values crumbled at the onset of the 2000s.
