Mom played this over and over when I was 9 years old. It was the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard and I would ask her to play it again every time we were on the road. She passed away last year while I was living in Thailand and when I came back to pack her things and have her car detailed, this randomly came on through her CD player while I was in reminiscence of her. She was such a beautiful woman. Rest In Peace momma. Will see you again one day...
I was the DJ at the wedding of one of my friends. The party was held in a church in Leiden, Holland. At the party i played disco as they requested. But at the soundcheck beforehand i played this track. It was magic to play it in a beautiful big church!! The sound inside a Church is very special and different from any soundsystem. It was an experience i will never forget
My father used to listen to this when he used to clean in saturday mornings. I lost him to cancer five years ago and each time I listen to this I connect with him and teleport back in time.
Proof that music can move you like a time machine... I can only begin to imagine the pain and beauty you experience every time you hear this track - your comment even made my eyes get wetter. Stay in the light and keep striving!
I was 45 when this fist came out. Loved it from the first time I heard it. The Gregorian Chant has always been very mystical and haunting. The sound of them singing in church echoing everywhere is totally captivating to me. Maybe it's my Italian, Catholic background, I don't know. Bringing it into a new Era at the time was quite daring. It still works today. I'll be 78 in April and I still love to hear this. 🙏💙
You see, there is all kinds of music for everyone. But there it's also Enigma, which is music for the soul. It doesn't matter how old you are, what gender or race you are, what's your social status, which continent and country you are from, what religion you like, Enigme WILL ALWAYS touch your soul. By far one of the most profound and game changing music styles ever made, thank you Michael Cretu for your divine work.
I first heard this song when I was 14 in 1990. I lived on a street that had many blocks of apartments and one of the neighbours always played Sadeness Part 1 in his car. I was just discovering electronic music at the time and I always enjoyed this song. Today in 2024 I still enjoy listening to Enigma’s first few albums often. Timeless classics that I never really thought would endure.

This song brings me instant peace and contentment. Enigma captured my heart years ago. Brilliant music that I believe only appeals to people with an ability to believe in a possible perfect world. I am 85 and so grateful for my passion in music. I wish people would open their minds and hearts. ❤️

Few people know who was behind the "band" Enigma. It was not a band really but rather the personal project of Romanian-Austrian musician and producer Michael Cretu. Cretu was the husband of German-French singer Sandra, formerly a singer of disco ensemble Arabesque, whose personal album he had written and produced in 1985 with hits such as "Maria Magdalena" (one of the biggest hits of the 1980s). Cretu was a classically trained pianist and composer but he loved pop music since a young age and hence he worked as a session musician, band member and producer in many different projects in Germany and UK including having co-produced Mike Oldfield's 1987 album "Islands". At the same time he was writing and producing his wife Sandra's 3rd personal album "Into a Secret Land" which would be compositionally less pop, more complex, and interestingly had included in there an intro of a brief sample of Gregorian chants. Oldfield greatly appreciated Cretu's mastery and talent and encouraged him to concentrate on writing and producing music of his own. Cretu heeded the advise and since 1988 started working on his own project which he called Enigma. As he said, he wanted to make music that he likes to listen himself, with a touch of magic and mysticism. Once he was about to release the album he told Sandra "Either this will become a huge hit or a complete flop", so he was not at all surprised when it indeed became a huge hit. Back in 1990, it was clear since the first moment that Enigma was that sort of music that would remain timeless. Enigma was liked by all, not just pop and electro fans but by hard rockers and heavy metal fans alike and influenced greatly a large range of genres. And yet Michael Cretu never placed himself forward, he was a very private man. You can mostly see him in Sandra's video clips such as playing the bass and singing in Sandra's 1985 "Maria Magdalena". You wouldn't believe that this stereotypically 1980s pop-looking guy would be behind Enigma!
That was a great backstory I have been listening to Enigma since 1992 or 1993 discovered them when I was in Upstate New York I found this music that just absolutely overwhelmed me anyway great backstory appreciate all the information very cool
This song takes me to a place that doesn't exist in this world. It takes me to a place where the troubles of this world don't exist, it takes me to a safe place where you can enjoy life.
The song that single handedly brought gregorian chants back, made the peruvian flute music popular, and created ASMR. Truly a masterpiece ahead of its time.
Yep, me too...Catholic it has the mystery of faith ....along with the subtle Native American mystical sounds....and now your journey...the Gregorian chants.....Brilliant!
Well I'm not that "old" (I'm going to be 25 this year) but I've always known this song because of my parents. They used to blast this along with many other '80s songs on the car's radio and I'm really thankful to them for that. I know a lot of good '80s songs because of them :)

Now my favourite track of all time. Honestly so beautiful and uplifting. I’m at the lowest point of my life right now and when I put this on it truly takes the pain away. It really is amazing how this track affects so many peoples lives, truly a blessing. Love to all!
This song for me is a true classic, it makes me travel spirituality into space, through galaxies an calms my nerves. I never new the name of the song, now I finally found it. ❤

Enigma reminds me of my early 20s when I was nursing in Leeds at the Clarendon Wing. Thirty years on I am a single mother of 2 wonderful teens and coping with looming Empty Nest Syndrome :( I have suffered from depression and now have severe OCD which I battle with daily. Listening to wonderful Enigma again is making me reminisce and I had forgotten just how incredibly powerful it is!!!!
Same for me. I love the music but it does bring up memories. I remember living briefly in Seattle in the late summer, autumn, winter, spring, early summer of 1994-95. I used to play the cassette a lot in my car during autumn and this was among my favorite tracks.
I am 60 years old, when I traveled up and down the Seaboard I would play this piece. It's sound stirred me, excited me as I drove through the back highways of Southeastern United States. I am still in love with it today, this music still inspires me. . .👣🐾
Enigma... A music that never fades even after 200 years. Eternally brilliant. Listening to it right while on a short break in my hectic schedule. Listen to it at regular intervals for 23 years.
Some songs can be used for deep healing, great imagination and peace and interplanetary communication. They live beyond time. This is one of them. Masterpiece of earth
I love Enigma. I was a kid when they were playing this on MTV. My parents were listening to Enigma and now after so many years I'm big fan of Enigma. ❤️ This song is unbelievable ❤️
I used to work in classic Porsche restoration (356 models) and my manager was an old salty af Gunnery Sgt from the USMC, and I just happened to be playing some old Vivaldi while working ... he came up to me and told me to do him a favor and play this song ... then he proceeded to tell me, with his classic Black N Mild dangling from his lips, how back in the day, he was smoking a joint on the way to base after a long night of "fraternization" in Oside and he had this on full blast and by the time he got to the gate he was lit af. Mike... you're the shit. Thanks for sharing that story.

Miss my wife, she passed away in January 31, 2019. This was our song. We got married to this song back in 2003. We had a great honey moon to this song. I love you baby. Miss you with all my heart!
No joke, I've been looking for this song for YEARS, cause I remember hearing it during a stage show on television when I was like 10 years old. I'm actually pretty pumped to have found it cause that brings closure to a 22 year old memory.
I went totally numb when I mistakenly clicked on this song, one slip of finger and I was taken back to 2011. Yes it was 2011. I used to go to a very small but an amazing private school, and it was our school's cultural program. I participated in a fashion show with this one as the background music. I had no idea what was it's name or who sang it whatsoever. But the tune immediately took me to that day, one of the earliest memories of my life. My very first classmates and me, we were in nursery or maybe 1st grade. I don’t know where they are now, or how they are. We all moved on to our separate ways, but we were all there that day, we were all classmates once. If any of you, J, F, M, I, R, ever end up here and see this, hello! It's been so damn long, hope you all are doing great. Remember that fashion show day? I hope you all are okay. I miss old times when life didn’t suck. I miss childhood. I miss you guys, JFMIR.
@@eobardthawnemcoc pffft who are you to insist that? More non English speaking people in the world than speak English. Please understand your role. Embrace it. Become it. Then, refrain from ignorant comments. Please and thank you 👍
the song is not 1% about love...it was made to question the sexual urges of "Marquês de sade"(whose word sadistic came from his surname), he could only achieve sexual pleasure through the pain of the person he was having.
This song reminds me of my girlfriend sarah, whenever we stayed at home to relax we used this song, sarah developed terminal cancer over the years, she wanted to die at home, one of the last good moments of her life was when we lay in room with the fireplace lit, a good pizza and this music playing in the background. One day I will meet again with Sarah
@@shizutika6911 Yes, I will never forget Sarah, until today I never met anyone like her, every morning I wake up thinking about her, I'm just waiting for the day to meet Sarah
When I was 9 years I was listening to this masterpiece in my dad’s car, I felt a strange feelings but it was deeply, now I’m 30 years and I finally found the song now from that time… 9 May 2023 00:54 am
My late husband and I listened to Enigma when he was alive. When I hear it now, makes me cry.....I will always remember my love I had for you... RIP Darrel Dixon 3.25.1965-3.15.2018
The first time I heard this song was in 1992 when I was 16 years old. I was at a stereo shop with some friends and the owner put this on in one of the cars he was doing an install on. The bass was incredible. It shook the walls and windows. To his day when I hear any enigma song I’m taken back to that time and many others in my life.
i too have similar hi-fidelity nostalgia related to this song, there was a person in my locality who used a pro level sub in his skoda octavia, where the entire bootspace was used as enclosure, and he always passed by playing enigma sadeness, second encounter was when in a showroom, the sales person played this song on onkyo tower speakers in one corner of showroom and i and my friend were immediately drawn in direction of the sound, but as there was no internet on our phones back then we didn't know the name of this song, finally i came to know of this song when a person played it on his system and i asked him the song name.
I've never really gotten very much into this kind of music, but there's just something magical about this song. For decades, I've found myself coming back to it over and over and over again.
My mom played this song when I was kid. Either in the late 90’s or early 2000’s and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. There’s nothing quite like it. Creepy, mysterious, yet hella sensual and catchy af. Bizarre track. But addictive to listen to just once, because it def won’t be the last.
This song is from another dimension, it captured my soul hearing it many many years ago. Over 10 years distracted by life, my first time playing it again. Thank you frequency
Exactly!!! This music is from a much higher vibration 100%!!! Enigma hands down is the best music ever!!! I tell people that enigma is the only music that I can listen too thousands of times over and over! I never get tired of it, it seems like it only gets better and better. I like the music so much that it inspired me to become a music artist and continue composing music just like this so people will always remember enigma and the positive vibes it brought to this world! Check out “Gera Kosmos - Show You the Way or presence of an Angel” when you get a chance, it is the inspiration of enigma, I would love your feedback! 🙏🤙
My lifetime favorite too. The best possible combination of melody and trance. Robert Miles was on another level, too. I believe you have to have an acute sense and sensitivity to the world around you in order to appreciate this music.
Música para eternidade!!! Enigma fez parte da minha adolescência, onde estava descobrindo muita coisa de minha vida... Em 2020 alguém ouvindo essa preciosidade🙋🙋🙋

No joke, I've been looking for this song for YEARS, cause I remember hearing it during a stage show on television when I was like 10 years old. I'm actually pretty pumped to have found it cause that brings closure to a 22 year old memory.
Nice one bud! Well worth the wait!
Dam 22 years, that's along time waiting to bust a nutt.
that's kind of sad
I found it by searching songs with Gregorian chants.
