The "Mew Trainer" Junior Trainer you discussed should be referred to as the "Mewnior Trainer" for obvious reasons.
damn, somebody beat me to "my comment" by at least three hours...
...so i guess ill just say "Seconded" instead :-P
I never thought of it until I saw that genius comment, but I'll still claim third for not-obvious reasons
@@codygriffin299 It is obvious because once you see it, you cannot unsee it. One of those retrospect things. Hidden in plain sight.
He needs some art
I always you the Slowpoke Teenager to get Mew.
You should race 2 middle stage pokemon whose evolved forms have already raced to see how drastic of a change the stat differences make for their gameplan. It would be really cool to see something like the three akward middle forms race
Like Weepinbell vs. Gloom?
@@Skarfar90 exactly
@@Skarfar90 I dunno, I think that would be too little of a contest. Gloom's pretty bad, while Weepinbell is quite good. Their third stage forms performed relatively closely, which honestly surprised me, but I think Growth on Weepinbell and better learnsets will make it an easy win.
A contest of middle evos I think might work better is Weepinbell vs Poliwhirl. Both have not terrible stats, both have access to boosting moves, both will quickly trounce Brock.
wartortle vs charmrleon vs ivysaur? see if ig changes from their bigger forms
I adore middle stage pokemon and they never seem to get the spotlight in challenge videos, so I'm really happy to see this. Gloom is also my favorite pokemon
I think it might have been faster to route out xp to be lvl 26 before the Oddish trainer and then just use the 2 rare candies from Mt Moon and Cerulean backyard.
I was about to comment asking the same thing, but I see you beat me to it, I believe that could make the run faster!
Yeah Scott usually does well on planning but he really doesn't like using rc early lol
yes, since in the first one he even had 3 rc left unused and the early game was the worst part
Alternatively, Struggle could’ve been an option at a lower level.
Poor Gloom. I always thought it was cute! Just a happy little drooling baby. I like Weepinbell more, but Gloom has its own charm!
Blane not using super potion when its pokemon are in red is just funny
Hi, Scott. Good work on today's video.
I was thinking even at 1st run that you had 2 rare candies available before nugget bridge. As seen later, they are not needed afterwards, but sprinting to level 28 is the important step in this run. For what I see in the 2nd playthrough, you could have cut around 4 real-time mins if you use them there, with practically no further issues
A thing to keep in mind for future videos that have a similar issue 🙂
Greetings
Yeah, I was thinking about this as well.
You truly spoil us with so many great videos Scott
nothin really to say, but i love your videos. they are amazing as background noise or to sleep to. i love that you basically explain everything that happens so i dont gotta see it to know whats happening, you are severely underrated
praying emoji
Gloom is just the awkward teen years of that evolution line. Can't get away with being cute anymore but isn't particularly good at anything yet to compensate. Also dealing with... bodily changes.
8:11 "I want you to look at my PP" sounds interesting without context 😅
I love Gloom's design. One of the cutest gen 1 mons.
Gloom is one of my favorite pokemon, well the whole line, but gloom especially. Thankyou for doing this playthrough, Scott!
Your videos/channel have been one of my favorites to watch these last few months, Scott!
Gloom was one of my favourite Pokémon back in the day.
Absolutely shocked to learn the Porygon race has less than average views. Its an awesome video
Thats because he released the video a week early, took it down and put it up again. A lot of views went to the drain by removing the original vid
Scott’s commentary never ceases to fully bring into his videos. It’s the little things I enjoy about it
I feel like the early game could of been much worse had gust of been a flying type move in gen 1. Love the videos as always!
Poor Gloom…no wonder it has the name it does…thinking about it, while you wouldn’t have as many Rare Candies later on in the game, it could be worth it to level up to 26 and then use the two available Rare Candies to get to level 28, learning Acid in a faster fashion. Plus that way, you can access higher level trainers more quickly, getting experience from them as opposed to like…level 10 Spearow and Sandshrew in the wild. Other than that, very nicely done! I’m excited for whenever Weepinbell gets its solo!
Don't think I didn't notice the Kabutops in the corner after you CORRECTLY picked the dome fossil
Can’t wait to see more mid evolutions. You’re a beast Scott keep doing you!!
Now this! Is a treat! One of my favorite middle evolutions ever. Gloom is so great, and I can't wait for it to CRUSH POKEMON YELLOW!
C'mon A tier!
Not even 15 minutes in and my heart is breaking. Starting with absorb hurts
I'm crying.
Fun video, poor sucky gloom, still less crap than I was expecting. For the record, if you get stuck in Azalea town in gen 2, if you have a grass or water type, or really anything with good special attack and not electric, if you go into the cave, go down to the floor where you get the swift tm. The mobs there give much better xp than the floor above. Also, finally, my obligatory plug of pitching Oy the zigzagoon in pokemon emerald in honor of the best Billy-bumbler
Feels like December again with so many video's ❤
C'mon, Scott! Gloom can totally Minimum Battles the game, you just need a few hundred resets on Jessie and James 😂 No worries, I'll do it!
Awesome run, great time with one that feels terrible the whole way... I think Pokemon like Butterfree and fall into a similar vein.
Another great video, thanks for the content Scott, really appreciating the amount of content you are putting out, just don’t burn yourself out dude, look after yourself! ❤
That battle vs the Oddish girl reminded me of that person who set up an AI tournament of every NPC in RBY. The longest battle was two Oddish Lasses who just kept using Absorb on each other before the battle timed out at like 300 turns or something lol
Yeah, it felt like a mini version of that!
Fantastic video Scott (as always). It would be pretty hilarious to see artwork of the Mew Junior Trainer (as in, a Junior Trainer with a Mew). Sadly he comes up so rarely, so it wouldn't be worth :(
Keep going with the awesome videos :D
Gloom was having a really tough early game, especially with random trainers with flying or poison types, because it doesn't have the right move to hit these pokemon with neutral damage, other than bide, and that can definitely say a lot about a Pokemon's level up moveset.🤔
I think that your routing was really well thought-out. Because you could manipulate your experience points in a such way that you won't level up during battles against Gloom's major walls for this run, with ton of stat experience ,that in the end has benefited Gloom against these walls in the second run. Well done!👏👏👏 Due to all of this hard work, Gloom got a happy ending and some nice results at the end of this run.☺️
“Last species in it evolutionary line that is getting a play though on my channel”. This man forgot that he has been bringing pokemon from future games. Blossom we are waiting :)
12 minutes on the clock into the first playthrough all I can think is you're self-sabotaging Gloom by wanting to battle that Rocket. You could easily just fight some Geodudes in random battles and get whatever level up you need for Jessie and James that way.
Also am I incorrect to assume you never fought that Rocket in other videos? It's a trainer you can skip even if you want to grab the TM there. I'm not sure why you would choose to battle him with a mon with such a clear disadvantage against him.
You've dropped more Acid in this playthrough than the entire audience would at a Grateful Dead concert
OMG that transition from Cinnabar Gym to Saffron Gym was so clean 🤩
Y'know, Gloom may not be perfect for this challenge. But oh boy is its sprite in Pokemon Stadium outstanding.
Honestly, I feel like Vileplume, its evolution, got a better go at it as a E4 representative. Although I will never understand why they painted it black just to fill a "dark type" slot.
This playthrough makes me think Weepinbell will do a lot better than Gloom, if only because of Growth and Wrap for early game, but will probably have some troubles thanks to not having the killing power of Victreebel and will need to set up for more fights, slowing it down more.
In many ways Gloom performed as expected. It started like an Oddish and finish like a Vileplume.
very nicely done, I had a feeling Gloom would do ok, right in the middle of Oddish and Vileplume, appropriate for a mid evolution, I looked at the difference between Gloom and Vileplume, there are two big things, both in the moveset, Vileplum gets Acid far sooner and it gets Body Slam, with those, Gloom would be just as good as Vileplume I think, I look forward to you doing Weepingbel (lets face it, you did Gloom, Weepingbel makes sense to come next)
You are a madman and we love it.
Is it funny that S tier is just poison types?
Thank you for the video.
"and speaking of growth it's nowhere to be found on gloom's moveset" amazing segue!
So in the end, its not all doom, but a lot of gloom.
Great video.
Hyper Beam Gloom reminds me of Pokémon Boris, which is a great video, like this one
My predictions before even watching.
+ pretty good early game (since it's super effective against Brock/Misty and it resists Surge's thunderbolt)
+ a chance to get ahead in xp early game ( grind Mt Moon, plus Rock Tunnel, plus SS Anne trainers and pokemon)
+ sleep powder plus swords dance plus physical move = niche and hype! :D
+ Acid is bad... but is technically a physical move with STAB
- limited learnset (so TM Mega drain and TM take down or double egde might be needed)
- Sabrina will be a menace with strong psychic types
- Koga will put up a bigger fight than expected (with bug/poison types that carry psychic)
- First reset caused due to Gloom's relatively low speed ( ;) yeah. Sorry. I think there will be resets.. as much as I like Gloom)
- Hitting Agatha's ghosts might be a bit tough.
Alright! Fingers crossed Scott! We're clickin' play!
ty as always for the content! I wish we had like 10 of these per day haha cheers!
I am extremely pro the mimic/lick strat for Agatha when you have swords dance, it’s pretty effective when you don’t have good options
Scott is discussing Lance’s Gyrados and addressing why he doesn’t use a grass move; I love the sassy reply. 😂
That first Agatha battle needs the Benny Hill music haha
Gloom is one of those pokemon that is burned into the back of my head for all time because I had the VHS with the Erika episode as a kid
🤔 I actually did appreciate all the work on your porygon race. I’ve been patiently awaiting the next race which I believe was parasect?
-speaking of I’ve come to the realization of what para social relationships are. You are the mushrooms on my back
-see you in the porygon video… going to be weird to see the old setup 🤔
Wouldn't it be a time safe to fight Brock and the trainer first, to get higher lvl and then go back and deal more damage to the bugs in the forest? Same expyield but maybe a bit faster ..?
Maybe? You'll be a slightly higher level, and deal a little more damage with absorb, but you'll still be dealing a lot of damage with poison, so I doubt you'd gain more than a turn, /maybe/ two per fight, and you have to do a little bit of extra walking. Something to investigate to be sure
Technically it could start off with razor leaf, which would let it fly through early game
How does it get Razor Leaf?
@@LI0NS0N if it gets transferred from the gen 2 games gold, silver & crystal
@@myggmastaren3365 Ah. But then it would be native to the gen 2 game and get boosted exp from the trade, no? I'm pointing that out because Scott used Abra with the gen 2 punch TMs once which could've been traded back and forth to achieve that.
For some weird reason, Vileplume is my favorite gen 1 pokemon since I was a kid. So, of course I'm excited for this haha
"Why are you hitting yourself?" - Nelson Simpsons
Finally snaps and uses Cut: "Hear me out. It has 30 PP..."
"i want to take a moment to remind you all of my seel playthrough"
it's a hilarious coincidence that i just finished watching that video right before this one
I’m definitely interested in seeing how Weepinbell will do. Could it be in the S Tier position with Victreebell?
Wouldn't it be faster to use a few rare candies before the Oddish trainer? It would at least shave some of the earlier training.
It's sad the porygon video is not popular. I really enjoyed the format.
Sorry if it's getting repetitive to say, but I really think Double Edge fills in a niche for Pokemon that don't get good physical moves, especially normal types and/or pokemon who get swords dance. In Gloom's case especially, because it can sleep powder, set up, and then (usually) sweep without concern for recoil pushing it over the edge. Even against the champion, the only trainer with 6 pokemon, 1/4 of the total HP is 241, so as long as you could get a sleep in on the Exeggcutor or mega drain the Cloyster you would be fine.
Nice new art for the Oddish lass.
i love vileplume wish it had razor leaf or growth. fun vid man
I like how Jesse & James are so inconsequential that despite being, you know, Jesse & James, they don't get any character art.
great work Scott! Erika's Pokemon!
Dont worry, scott. Cut will never give you an edge in battle.
That gen 1 gym music is so nostalgic
Multiple uploads 🥳🥳🥳
Looking forward to seeing how haunter stacks up.
Have you done Golem yet?
I love this family so much, i cant decide if I like vileplume or gloom more they both wonderful.
Vileplume definitely 😁 my all time fave Pokémon.
Now, we need clone lass with a cloning vat from Red Alert 2 for the lass on the bridge.
Looks like glooms kryptonite was the move pool. I'm wondering if rte. 3 would have been faster if you could use struggle throughout it and just potion up between battles but I guess it doesn't matter because you need to get Acid to finish nugget bridge, speaking of during your first playthrough why didn't you just use the rare candies to get up to lvl 28? Ultimately it didn't matter but I am curious.
It took Gloom roughly 17 minutes to beat Rival 2 in its first playthrough.
On its first playthrough, Vileplume was out of Rock Tunnel at 17 minutes.
It's amazing how much of a difference starting with Sleep Powder, Petal Dance, and Acid makes. I think if Gloom started with those moves, it would probably be not too far behind its evolution, probably about to enter Rock Tunnel at 17 minutes.
Mm, notably Vileplume still finished the game at level 59 in Scotts other playthrough, only a small difference. The major benefit late game, aside from the stats, is that Vileplume also gets bodyslam!
Even more damning: Gloom beat Surge at 35 minutes in its first playthrough. At that point, Vileplume was fighting Blaine.
Yea more gen 1 lol yessss. More Pokémon. Gloom I say b tier 1:11 Welp bout to find out. Keep up the great vids I’m always interested in what Scott is thinking lol 😎
Scott embracing his love for putting Pokémon to sleep is the villain arc I didn’t know I needed.
Id love to see a vilepume vs bellossom in gen 2 run.
8:12 *chuckle* 😳 Don't mind if i do Scott
Any chance of redoing some of the poison types for say Halloween in Yellow with either Gen 2 egg moves.
Psybeam koffing/weezing
Gloom was my favourite Pokémon as a kid. I don't really remember why, or what it says about me as a person 😅.
Happy I could catch the premier whilst I work night shift.
"this pokemon is the last species on its evolutionary line that's getting a playthrough on my channel" - you heard it here folks: Scott is gonna Skip Bellossom ;-)
You know Scott, you always choose the Dome Fossil, whereas MDB always chooses the Helix... It would be AWESOME to see you guys do Kabutops V. Omastar race in a collab video. 😁😁😁
That’s be fun!
So what is left: finding out if Vileplume is amazing because of its Poison type or not.
In otherwords, Bellossom in Yellow.
Can’t wait to see the move pool lol
Good Job Scott
Idk at what scale merch makes sense at for a RUclips channel, but I would buy the heck out of a Scottsthoughts Venomoth t-shirt with all the Venomoth variants on it.
I really like the interface you have (designed?) Tjat shkws the rivals teams and stats and moveset
Favorite Yellow sprite
Yep, says things are about to get real... then it falls flat on its face when it takes a step. 😂
Considering how much you were grinding pre-Brock, I was shocked with how you skipped the first trainer in Misty's gym, even if you did end up doing that later.
The happy route music really belies the atrocities on screen that are Gloom's early game. That's odd(ish)ly disturbing.
Would getting to level 44 before using the rare candies improve your lategame enough to warrant doing that?
Thanks for the video.
8:10 "coming out of the battle with youngster Ben I want you to take a look at my PP"
Hmmmmmm
I watched and enjoyed the porygon race.
How much time is lost on all Pokemon that attempt to evolve every level, or is that modded out?
I can't wait for the magmar/electabuzz/jynx trio
When you are a formidable gym trainer and you see a weak contender shoving 20 rare candies into his pokemon right before the battle... 😅
Were there two uploads for this video?
I love Gloom, even if it isn't particularly good 🙃
That's what i call early game purgatory. The pokemon is just strong enough to win the battles but in the process it wastes too much pp so you have to run back and forth from pokecenter. This situation makes you wish this pokemon was weaker with less moves so you could use struggle.
Like number 869 #nice! no but for real god bless you scott we all love you!!!
Is there a reason you didnt learn seismic toss to clear the oddish lass? :) great video as always!
Gloom doesn’t learn seismic toss.
You are right :)
Wow, I always thought you did the voice over to match the footage not the other way around
It’s sort of a hybrid. I scrub through the footage and base the voice over on it, but it isn’t timed to perfectly align. After all sometimes I need to say something that takes 4x the duration of a certain event. So we have to retime the footage in post for the highest quality video. It’s possible to just follow the footage, but the voice over is so rushed; it lacks nuance, pace, and drama.
The budget Ivysaur of RBY 7U. Way slower, but has Stun Spore an decent bulk. Allowing for it to survive a Tentacool Blizzard on the switch, a blizz after to go for sleep or stun. No Razor Leaf tho. :p
