    Just to let you know, Fire Blast would not thaw you out if you're frozen. The only two moves that self-thaw in Gen 2 are Flame Wheel and Sacred Fire. Outside of those, you have a 1-in-5 chance of defrosting on your own. Game Freak put that in there to prevent freeze from being the virtual death sentence that it was in Gen 1.

    • @Alizudo
      @Alizudo 2 года назад +24

      I didn't know that self-thawing was actually possible; it has only ever been a death sentence every single time I've seen it executed, always.

      @naaat You had NO chance at all of thawing. The one and only way to defrost (without items) is for the opponent to hit you with a Fire-type move that *also* has a chance to burn... so funny enough, Fire Spin would not cause a thaw despite literally wrapping you in flames.
      If the opponent didn't hit you with a Fire move, your Pokémon was completely and utterly helpless until it was KOed.

    You glossed over how insane STAB return is in gen 2. It's not 102 plus stab. It's 102 plus stab, plus plain badge type boost. Making it a 172 base power move. Unless you are hitting 90 base power super effective moves, or a quad effective move. Return is always better.

    • @skeetermania3202

      The GBA and GBC produce colors differently. So playing a GBC game on the GBA actually does look a little different on the handhelds themselves. Most emulators will default to the GBA colors but some people are nostalgic for the GBC colors. I believe VBA is the only emulator that lets you select a more accurate GBC look. Which is surprising as BGB's goal is emulation accuracy.

Scyther is fast and hard hitting. Many of us might be tempted to just tank a hit and try to retaliate with a fire or flying move. But bam- the scyther switches to a kakuna that takes the hit for it. Then the kakuna does a poison sting, poisoning your one good typed pokemon, and they weapon you down with stall tactics until the scyther comes back to finish you off.

      Metronome battles were a thing in gens 6 and 7. Is that not a thing in sword and shield?
      Nothing like a snorlax using acrobatics somehow or a clefairy using judgment.
      I think gen 7 is the best because with normalium Z you basically use the Z version of whatever moves it calls

    • @bongchoof
      @bongchoof 2 года назад +3

      Nah, it absolutely should be able to use signature moves. It's so rare anyways. The others I agree with. It can already copy some exclusive moves as it is.

    It seems like there are simply too many mandatory battles. That, combined with Togepi's level-up group is what caused the major 'issues.' Still, it's strange that Togepi was doing so much damage. Like, in your Rattata run, it wasn't doing much at all by the Elite Four. I don't know. It just felt like Togepi was doing too much damage for its stats. Then again, these Pokemon are 1/2 to 2/3s your level and you are 3 shotting them. So, I dunno...

    I remember doing something similar with Aipom in a Gold Nuzlocke (Called Mandy). Gave her Return, Shadow Ball, Cut and Thief. She was surprisingly strong and bulky for a Pokemon that didn’t have a ton of base stats. But she went all the way to the Elite 4 and to Lance. I got into trouble with Dragonite, and thought the best thing was to let Aipom go out in a blaze of glory by taking on the Champion’s ace Pokemon, chipping it down for Typhlosion, Tentacruel or Espeon to get the revenge kill. Hit it with a Return which does lots of damage and it attacks with Outrage…AND SURVIVED!! I was screaming the place down with shock that Aipom took a non-defuffed Dragonite and not only lived, but defeated it too. I have no idea how it happened, and quite frankly I don’t want to know. But Aipom bringing down a pseudo legendary was honestly one of the best moments I’ve had as a Pokemon fan.

    Since you're banking for winning with 5turn rollout anyway, why not use Safeguard to prevent Sleep for 5 turns and use a Berry or an item to increase your attacking power or accuracy? Since the most dangerous part is Haunter using Rollout 1 and Curse ticking 25%, an ordinary Berry could have very well saved you

    • @maanee5351

      He has an odd number of health so no matter what, he gets 5 turns of curse before he dies. A berry heals for 10 hp, which is nowhere near the 21 health he would need to survive a 6th tick of curse.

    .. I'm shocked for just how well Togepi did, but I guess it makes some sense considering just how versatile it's learnset can be, and partially because of how wonky Johto can be in terms of Levels.
    Would love to see a redo of this in gen 3 - I feel like Togepi would likely struggle in Emerald a bit more than FR/LG due to Brawly, Norman, Tate/Liza and hell, maybe even some of the E4 like Phoebe.

    have you ever considered trying out "crystal clear"? its a romhack of crystal that lets you start in any town (johto OR kanto), has level scaling gyms and gym rematches, trainers levels scale (wild pokemons do NOT), character customization, and even a built in nuzlocke mode if you felt inclined.
    tms arent infinite use, but theyre all still renewable (you have access to more tms at the dept stores as you get more badges) and theres a move relearner.
    theres also 3 tutors: one for kanto only tm moves (so any gen 1 mons can still learn their gen 1 tm moves), one for event-exclusive moves, and one known as the "battle tutor," which is basically "hey why doesnt X learn Y? here i made it so X can learn Y :)"
    oh and ofc all 251 mons are catchable. theres even a "tradeback guy" in the dept store who will let you do trade evos.
    i could go on and on and still not mention all the added features QoL stuff. but. yeah. id highly recommend taking a look!
