I thought this was going to be easy until I saw that it didn't learn any grass moves... Here's what the Pokedex says about the multi-headed gen 1 pokemon: -Doduo's heads contain identical brains and communicate their emotions telepathically. Only one head needs to sleep at a time. -Dodrio's third head came from one of its heads splitting into two, and its three identical brains means three times the mental power to devise complicated plans of attack. Like Doduo only one head needs to sleep at a time, and it also has three sets of lungs and three hearts so it can run for super long times. -Dugtrio is a set of identical triplets that split off from Diglett's body and think together like a hivemind. They sometimes fight over who gets to eat first though. -Exeggcute always come in groups of six. If one gets lost somehow, their telepathic bond always brings them back together. As their shells crack more and more, it means they're getting closer to evolving. -Exeggutor's three heads have their own personalities but they're all friendly and never fight one another. Once a head grows large enough it drops off and becomes an Exeggcute who sends out a telepathic signal to any other lone Exeggcute so they can eventually form a new pod of six.
@@dominicmoisant8393 The Pokedex doesn't say where the other three Exeggcute go upon evolution. I guess the heads don't fight cuz they're a big happy dopey palm tree thing.

Exeggutor was my favorite 'psychic' pokemon in gen1, but for some reason I thought it was unavailable in yellow so I never got it. Bummed that I never had an opportunity to use it back in the day. Despite being separate, it has the innate ability to use all three of its brains to collect data, formulate, and then execute complex plans and strategies. However, on occasion it may overthink, which causes it to become immobilized and unable to carry out any action whatsoever. Being separate individuals on the same body, the three heads will continue to bicker until they, or at least one of them, gets to eat. This satisfies the other two heads, quelling them and temporarily ending their infighting. Another form of adaptation that it has acquired is the ability to have at least one head alert at all times. Extreme caution is advised when all three heads are facing separate directions. It is in this state that it is the most dangerous and going near it may result in a severe pecking.
That first run felt like eggsecute had so much good in the early game, then so much bad luck in the mid. It"s like it had the luck of 6 people in one pokemon. 😊
28:05 I never thought I would ever hear the phrase "fulfilling bad". It made me laugh because it sounds ridicoulus but it made sense in the context. Thanks for your videos!
The 'broken' egg actually does have a face! It's just not usually looking in the same direction as the others. You can see it in the Let's Go screenshot displayed at 3:00!
I've been using Exeggcute in Crystal as part of a really silly challenge run I'm doing, and its definitely a really interesting Pokemon to use. It has just the right moveset to be really solid defensively but really, really does lack the offensive power to do much. But at least in Gen II Leech Seed is like, really good. This was a really fun video. I don't think Exeggcute was ever going to be great, but it's always really cool to see just how much of a difference these optimizations make, even with worse luck.
Wow execcute had a bright start, no doubt. But sooner or later it would get tougher to him. Blane was such a brick wall, really difficult, but I guess it could have been worse, especially the beginning. In my opinion what helped execcute the most was it's typing and sure what helped the least it's move pool! Man so horrible!!! Why could it not learn mega drain? Dude such an unfair thing... Absolutely one of the most difficult challenges, but you did great Scott, good job! Though I think Exeggutor would do significantly better, I guess everyone would agree on that!!!
Poor Exeggcute , gen 1 didn't want it to have good moves, despite its decent typing.😮 And yeah, before watching that playthrough I was so sure it could get mega drain or solarbeam via TMS , because every grass type (and some poison types ) could learn it.😅 But overall,it gave the early game some special flavour, especially when you had to rely on bide for the early game ,and with a lot of crazy luck involved, especially in terms of resets.😂😂 Also , I really liked the smart usage of egg bomb ,even though I think that the combination of leech seed and double edge could synergize well too , because the Exeggcute line is pretty bulky (for some odd reason, it's Pokédex entry in gold says that it's shell is very durable. Even if it cracks, it can survive without spilling the contents, I guess that's why they are so bulky who knows?😅)so you can take advantage of that, even though it cost you more time.😊 But in the end Exeggcute did it without becoming an omelette. Well done!👏👏👏👏
I am speechless as to how well it did, I just watched Squidgy do a live Exeggutor on Crystal and that was rough and somehow you made it look so much easier with Exeggute, slow yes, but easier. I look forward to your Yellow run with it, who it'll face it face for the VS though is a tricky one, how about in a separate Parasect vid for giggles
Imagine a world where we can get all our favourite Pokémon solo runners to go head to head with a random Pokémon live on stream then all the donations go to a good cause, I wish Agdq or sgdq could pull that together, I’m sure the donations would go through the proverbial roof.
I really like Exeggcute and its evolution, so I was happy to see a solo being done with it today! Especially in time for Easter (I don’t celebrate it, but found it a nice touch)! I do wonder if mimicking Earthquake would’ve helped vs the champion. I’m not saying it definitely would have since I don’t have calcs, but especially if it OHKOed Flareon, that could be worth it.
I only just realized, after decades, that not putting moves on the level-up movepool before the level you find them at isn't just a lazy choice that GF did because they _could._ They actually _had to,_ because there was no breeding or move reminder.
Dugtrio is a set of Diglett triplets sharing a single body, although no one knows what its body looks like since it's perpetually buried underground. Each head is incredibly tough with a smooth surface, and has brown skin, black eyes, and a large, round, pink nose. Dugtrio's three heads think the same thoughts and act cooperatively, though on rare occasions may fight over which head gets to eat first. In order to make burrowing easier, each head will bob up and down to loosen the soil.
Magneton is a robot-like Pokémon, the result of three Magnemite becoming linked together by a strong magnetic force, although a single Magnemite can evolve by itself when there are no other Magnemite in the vicinity. Each individual Magnemite has a gray spherical body with a single eye, and a gray and red-and-blue tipped horseshoe magnet on each side. The topmost Magnemite has three Phillips head screws on its body, while the others appear to have only two. The three Magnemite that Magneton consists of can be linked in several ways. Magneton is most commonly seen as one Magnemite on top, and two Magnemite linked by the screws on the bottom, forming a triangle.

Along with its three heads, it has three sets of hearts and lungs as well. This allows it to efficiently oxygenate and pump blood throughout its body, thus giving it increased endurance to run vast distances without rest. It is especially prone to race vigorously across grassy plains, even in arid seasons with little rainfall.
Exeggutor is a tall, bipedal Pokémon that resembles a coconut tree or palm tree. Its body and legs are light brown with thin black rings and its legs are thick with two-toed feet. There is a light yellow paw pad on each foot's underside. It has thin, green leaves sprouting from the top of its body. Exeggutor has three round, light yellow heads that resemble coconuts, each with different facial expressions. Exeggutor's heads think independently and don't appear interested in one another, so it makes a lot of noise as each head speaks its mind. They still appear to get along, though, for they never squabble amongst themselves. If all the heads want to go in a different direction, its body is unable to move. They are able to communicate telepathically as well and sometimes use it to come to a joint decision. It uses psychic powers to fight, and since all three heads are capable its power is tripled. If one of these heads grows too large, it falls off and groups together with others to become an Exeggcute.
I really enjoy your formula for making videos and your content. I was always curious to know what playthroughs would've been like using different pokemon as your starter when i played these games as a kid.
Hey Scott, Eggcelent playthrough as always. I was unaware that Exeggecutes move set was so bad in generation 1. I don't love sleep strats but since its your the first person who i dont particularly mind doing it especially with this pokemon. Anyways have a good weekend. Also exeggcute on easter? Well played, don't know if it was planned but hey Happy Easter.
The luck that pile of eggs had with the first gym trainers, amazing. I don't think I ever payed this pokemon, fun to watch someone else do it though :P
I’m pretty sure I got them. They are what allow me to get 5 vitamins. 6 is very hard. You have to go out of your way and buy nothing to do it, honestly it usually just slows the run down
These kinds of odd movesets and stat distributions are what I live for in Randomisers. As fun as Speed Boost Snorlax and Huge Power Slaking can be in randomisers, the real fun is when you are given duct tape and straw then have to make a competent team out of it. xD
Exeggcute is easily the best gen 1 speed run. Particularly to watch. I could watch those, in fact i should run that. The random beginning makes if fun. Then its skill to the end
Hey Scott it's been awhile since I commented. I've been watching sporadically, loved to see Lugia beat 1:25 by a single second. I got a new job that's taken up a lot more of my time but I'll be here all the same. The eggs are one of my favorite gen 1 Pokemons so please sir treat them well
That Lugia finish was so awesome. definitely one of the highlights of my year so far. Also, this first Exeggcute playthrough was another highlight. It’s been a good week for the channel! Good to see you around again btw!

I love Eggy in Gen 1. He's so counterintuitive. Really slow, low stats, and bad moves, but somehow it's just insanely consistent. Slow and steady wins the race I guess. Then when it evolves it just turns into an absolute behemoth.
I wouldn't have the patience to CRACK this challenge lol I could use some eggcellent eggs right now Isn't the struggle eggtastic? I'm barraging you with these runny puns
I loved eggsecute because I could teach it goofy move sets. My favorite was toxic leech seed rest and reflect. The more damage it takes from toxic the more leech seed health you get. It was a weird glitch
I remember first learning some of the many glitches after my interactions with ghost types. I remember ghost in the anime are super effective against psychic and wondering what was going on. Lick wasn't working on psychic types and it confused me so much.
I forgot when you started to implement the Oak fight at the end instead of the Mewtwo fight but I really like it. It has real postgame final boss energy due to it being a full team to fight instead of just one Pokémon. Btw can you say at the end how many attempts it took you to beat Oak? I'm not sure if you did say it and I just forgot or if you just said that it took a few attempts.
Exeggcute's movepool of Leech Seed, Reflect, Sleep Powder puts it way up on my list of cool pokemon. That combination is VERY fun against the AI and the only reason I'm not using the funny bunch every time I move through Gen1 is its late encounter. I didn't even realize it doesn't get Mega Drain - that's more awful offensively than I thought. Then, in Gen2, you can get it VERY early (from headbutting trees in Ilex Forest, which is VERY funny to me) and even an easy Leaf Stone in Crystal, but Jumpluff does the Leech-Sleep strat way better in that game because it's so fast and it's one of my favorites. I do wonder though why it didn't get 50% more exp on that first playthrough, being such a Lucky Egg....
I grinned so big when you listed your charizards move set - I’ve always been a Venusaur guy and guess what my final move set always ended up being: vinewhip, razor leaf, sleeppowder and solarbeam 😂 My reasoning was pretty much the same, god forbid a grass type uses something else, but grass moves. Additionally I kept vinewhip over gigadrain because I always only leveled my starter and I wanted a low power, high PP move to finish off Pokémon with low health in order to save PP on razor leaf 😅
5:59 Exeggcute has 6 heads, actually: the "opened egg" one still has a face, it's just hidden in the official artwork because it's turned around; you can see it, for example, in its 3D model when it's on your side of the field.
Did you know that in Generation 1 when you use Leech Seed in combination with Toxic it's kinda broken. What appears to happen is the amount of HP Leech Seed drains is increased plus when Toxic subsequently drains the opponents HP that HP will be given back to your Pokemon. In summary you drain more HP per turn and receive more HP in return. I can't confirm this with math but I thought I'd bring it to your attention to see if you can test it. Here is a video that kind of shows what I'm talking about: ruclips.net/video/bNjEFgsIIIY/видео.html Love your content and appreciate the time and effort you and your team put into every video. Keep up the good work!
I shows this off back in my Tentacool video. I paired it with Wrap for maximum awfulness (for the opponent). Didn’t end up being a usable strat, but it was fun to at least test out. While it is really cool, I think this format sort of makes it less viable because the goal is to finish as fast as possible and setting up two moves that deal no initial damage and take a while to stack isn’t exactly speedy. Plus, losing two moveslots makes the playthrough much less flexible.
Well, I feel like I know Eggactly how this is gonna go… bad. Also, considering that Exeggutor is a palm tree, I imagine that Exeggcute is a bunch of coconuts. In which case, yeah those bad boys are pretty sturdy.
The fact Scott knows how his community is going to react to his sleep tactics makes me love him even more lol

A clutch of eggs can refer to two things:
(1) the total number of eggs laid in one nesting attempt.
(2) Exeggcute during a challenge run.

The fact that they're based on the German words for "one" "two" and "three" fucks me up with what that implies about the pronunciations.

This was a really fun video. I don't think Exeggcute was ever going to be great, but it's always really cool to see just how much of a difference these optimizations make, even with worse luck.
Your rant about the heads on Pokémon was so hilarious.
Happy Easter Scott!!
I'm happy you have the success youve garnered and wish you more!
Great video Scott. That Brock fight was just unreal haha
Yeah the lack of mega drain is really disappointing. At least Solarbeam got to be featured. It never gets used in gen 1
Seeing bide having use with reflect in gen1 makes me so happy C:
Poor Exeggcute , gen 1 didn't want it to have good moves, despite its decent typing.😮 And yeah, before watching that playthrough I was so sure it could get mega drain or solarbeam via TMS , because every grass type (and some poison types ) could learn it.😅
But overall,it gave the early game some special flavour, especially when you had to rely on bide for the early game ,and with a lot of crazy luck involved, especially in terms of resets.😂😂
Also , I really liked the smart usage of egg bomb ,even though I think that the combination of leech seed and double edge could synergize well too , because the Exeggcute line is pretty bulky (for some odd reason, it's Pokédex entry in gold says that it's shell is very durable. Even if it cracks, it can survive without spilling the contents, I guess that's why they are so bulky who knows?😅)so you can take advantage of that, even though it cost you more time.😊
But in the end Exeggcute did it without becoming an omelette.
That would be so cool!
With Exeggcute’s attack I think it’s better to avoid trying Earthquake.
I only just realized, after decades, that not putting moves on the level-up movepool before the level you find them at isn't just a lazy choice that GF did because they _could._ They actually _had to,_ because there was no breeding or move reminder.
Oh yeah, of course! That’s a great way to think about it.
Not watching in sync with the live stream, but I love it. Can't wait until I get here on my Challenge Dex Attempts...
Can you write more Pokédex entries in the comments? This was really enjoyable to read.
Dodrio is a large, wingless, three-headed avian Pokémon. Each head has a long, sharp beak and a black V-shaped, feather crest. It has bristly brown feathers covering its heads and upper body, while its lower half has a smooth layer of black feathers. Its tail consists of three pale red feathers with lighter tips. Its wingless body rests on two long and slender, but powerful legs with feet that have three clawed toes in front and one in back. A male has black necks, whereas a female has brown necks; both genders have brown legs.
Each head has its own working brain and distinct personality. Each head represents and expresses either sorrow, anger, or joy.
If one of these heads grows too large, it falls off and groups together with others to become an Exeggcute.
i love your videos man! ive seen just about every single one. They've really helped me understand pokemon a lot better
I’m glad they’ve helped you understand Pokémon more!
I really enjoy your formula for making videos and your content. I was always curious to know what playthroughs would've been like using different pokemon as your starter when i played these games as a kid.
Glad you’re liking the videos!
Exeggute moves in reality
Barrage- each seed/eggs rushes in and makes contact doing damage.
Egg bomb- one of the seed/eggs rushes and blows itself up.
Barrage and Egg Bomb are two moves you don't see often, but its always cool when they appear just because they are so unique
Agreed!
I’m going to enjoy this one. Hopefully Exeggcute doesn’t crack under pressure
11:56 "Thanks so much, Nurse Joy, for restoring my PP"
SCOTT!!!!!
Perfect Nugget Bridge Rival? No, that was a Nice Nugget Bridge Rival
Poor Bruno. With 5 eggs, I would be embarrassed, too. But 6? Come on, that's like a full team! I respect that giant buff gym rat.
We can all respect that physique, but not his battling skills.
Congratulations on the showdown at Pewter City!
The psychic type really saves this Pokémon. No wonder it’s accessible later in the game
Meanwhile Abra's just hanging out at Nugget Bridge.
Psychic type is completely busted in Gen 1 games. Only super effective moves against psychic in the entire game are leech life and pin missile
That PatronDex is getting close to hitting Gen5 Pokemon! Crazy!
Good run! I was really looking forward to a toxic/leachseed combo with this one, I think it would have been fun if you tried it!
Maybe with Exeggutor?
The luck that pile of eggs had with the first gym trainers, amazing. I don't think I ever payed this pokemon, fun to watch someone else do it though :P
So much luck! Made for a great story.
One of the Kings of RBY LC. Long may it reign!
5:31
It DOES have a face. It's just facing in the other direction.
I would have picked up the tm's from the thirsty girl in celedon city, that would made you have enough for 6 vitamins
Yeah, surprisingly this was a really fun Pokémon to use! I didn’t expect it to play out that way.
You mentioned that Exeggcute had five heads but if you look at the battle sprite there are six eggs because game freak back sprites are fantastic.
there are 6 eggs, one of them doesn't have a face so 6 objects in the back sprite and 5 faces when you look at it
@@corberus3119 It DOES have a face, though. It's just facing the other direction.
It took me way too long to notice that he had named this guy Omelette. I laughed out loud.
Imagine the kid starting with Exeggcute training and calling attacks at the start of the game. Omelette do barrage!
Of course Exeggcute did well against Venomoth. Venomoth is a water-fighting type after all.
Well exeggcuted Challenge, Scott!

Blaine went from using a super potion at full health to not healing at red health.
Yeah. He does have super potions in yellow, he just very very rarely uses them.
Some reason, I've always loved Exeggutor's look. I've never used him, but I've always wanted to. And Ezeggcute is kinda cute, oddly enough.
I love Eggy in Gen 1. He's so counterintuitive. Really slow, low stats, and bad moves, but somehow it's just insanely consistent. Slow and steady wins the race I guess.
Then when it evolves it just turns into an absolute behemoth.
I wouldn't have the patience to CRACK this challenge lol
I could use some eggcellent eggs right now
Isn't the struggle eggtastic?
I'm barraging you with these runny puns
I loved eggsecute because I could teach it goofy move sets. My favorite was toxic leech seed rest and reflect. The more damage it takes from toxic the more leech seed health you get. It was a weird glitch
Man I wasn't expecting him to do so badly. Lack of TM moves and bad early game options really ruins him.
Yeah… I unfortunately knew he would be bad. Checked out his starting moves ages ago and since then I was dreading doing this run.
Well at least you seemed to enjoy it.
It's funny, his evolution is really strong. This guy just seems useless though.
I remember first learning some of the many glitches after my interactions with ghost types. I remember ghost in the anime are super effective against psychic and wondering what was going on. Lick wasn't working on psychic types and it confused me so much.
The run that made me stop playing runs. I commend your resilience, I couldn't hack it
Update: I flipping did it! You gave me the motivation to finish what I started!
56 minutes (game time)in, I have no idea if this will be a god run with no resets but damn it's a fun watch
Nobody else loves a gen2 run with Togepi?
I thought he already had but I was remembering Jrose11's Togepi-only Crystal run.
This year
That Brock victory was pretty hype!
I’ll try to remember to add that. Good idea.
In the background, "That's not very nice."
I look, full HP. All is well.
Guard spec company is funding team rocket
So Giovanni always does product placement for them
Any chance he
Gets
I love that explanation
Eggs can't learn softboiled??? :| Also understandable eggs can't use body slam and use egg bomb instead. Happy Egg Day!
The high defense stat is really an evasion stat. You can crack the eggs easily, but damage is dealt by hitting the smug center one.
I grinned so big when you listed your charizards move set - I’ve always been a Venusaur guy and guess what my final move set always ended up being: vinewhip, razor leaf, sleeppowder and solarbeam 😂
My reasoning was pretty much the same, god forbid a grass type uses something else, but grass moves. Additionally I kept vinewhip over gigadrain because I always only leveled my starter and I wanted a low power, high PP move to finish off Pokémon with low health in order to save PP on razor leaf 😅
Good Venusaur moveset. 8 year old me approves. Keeping Vine Whip and Razor Leaf is a must.
5:59 Exeggcute has 6 heads, actually: the "opened egg" one still has a face, it's just hidden in the official artwork because it's turned around; you can see it, for example, in its 3D model when it's on your side of the field.
Cool!
Golduck has the same weirdness. You can breed it to know psychic, but it can't learn psychic through tm. Drives me crazy.
I thought Golduck was a psychic type until I tried to use it in BDSP… why is it mono-water? It evolves from PSYduck.
Here is a video that kind of shows what I'm talking about: ruclips.net/video/bNjEFgsIIIY/видео.html
Love your content and appreciate the time and effort you and your team put into every video.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemonIf optimizing for level of finish, it probably is the best strategy.
I used to always call my exeggcute Eggcellent, I'm sure I'm not the only one :)
Well, I feel like I know Eggactly how this is gonna go… bad.
Also, considering that Exeggutor is a palm tree, I imagine that Exeggcute is a bunch of coconuts. In which case, yeah those bad boys are pretty sturdy.
I feel like with as niche as Egg Bomb is, it should have much better accuracy
I am amazed this wasn't in the Bruno tier. Those starter moves are brutal.
I agree. I did not have high expectation.
I would love to see how arcanine does in gen 3
