    1. Only my starter in battle
    2. No items in battle, except held items
    3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
    4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
    Rule details:
    -- I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
    -- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
    -- I play the game at 4x game speed
    -- For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
    -- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves

    -- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
    -- The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
    -- Saving between league members is allowed
    -- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
    -- Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
    -- The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration
    These Rule details apply only to generation 1:
    -- All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
    -- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll

    Venomoth Fact #17: One day Venomoth swooped down and saw Sentret. Then Venomoth saw Sentret's speed stat. Finally Venomoth went over and said "Boy, you get your whoopy cushion shaped body on the treadmill or SO HELP ME" which is the canonical reason as to why Sentret gains a huge 70 point boost to speed when evolving.

    The fact that one of the weakest pokemon stats wise is still not F teir or lower shows how much movesets can really make or break it.

  • @andreapareti324
    @andreapareti324 17 дней назад +2

    Yes! I love this little guy! I've always felt that Sentret's Speed was far too low for what its design and inspiration are: it's a small, furry sentinel that stays alert and is quick to go back to its nest once it spots peril! Why does it only have 20 Base Speed?! Its evolution jumps up to 90, fgs, and it's not that different of a design!!
    I would have personally put its Base Speed at 60 or 65, which would have also bumped up its BST to match Rattata's: while Raticate and Furret have very comparable BSTs (413 and 415, respectively, so Furret's is technically slightly higher!), Sentret sits at 215 while Rattata is at 253 (with more optimized stats to boot!).
    With + 40 or +45 Speed, Sentret would have gotten to 255 or 260, respectively, which also would have made for a more interesting in-game choice where the Sentret line is still fast, bulkier but weaker while the Rattata line is more all-out damage. As is, there's basically no reason to use Sentret, since it's rarer and far less performant than Rattata, which is sad.

  • @ace94d
    @ace94d 16 дней назад +6

    Two thoughts I have when watching this:
    1. Could completing Chuck earlier be done if you had the Pink Bow equipped? I noticed you had the Mint Berry equipped when you accidentally went to fight Chuck and I am wondering if his Poliwrath would turn it into a 2HKO and thus make the luck reasonable.
    2. Could ThunderPunch be used against the Red Gyarados to make it a little easier? The punches are purchasable so no big deal to replace and then re-teach Fire Punch, and if it turns the Red Gyarados into a more consistent KO it might reduce potential resets.
    Dunno if you'd be up for answering, nice video. Sentret managing to get just below 1:50 is pretty good!

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  15 дней назад +2

      1. In the second run I do 2HKO the Poliwrath. It will OHKO if it crits. For more detail: Lv38 gives a 70.5% chance to 2HKO. Lv39 84%. Lv40 is always a 2HKO. Levelling that high just needs a lot of grinding in Johto. So Pryce and Rocket Hideout is the best way to accomplish both goals.
      2. We don't have damage calcs against wild Pokemon in the software so I had to manually calculate it after scrubbing back to the Gyarados in the replay to check it's exact stats. I also resumed from replay and tried it with ThunderPunch. It does around 65%-75% damage, so it doesn't solve the Gyarados as cleanly as it seems it might.

    • @ace94d
      @ace94d 15 дней назад +1

      @@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Thanks for the reply! It does seem like ThunderPunch might be worth it since in the video without it is at least sometimes a 3HKO and not a 2HKO, but I dunno if it messes up stuff elsewhere with money. Thanks for the Poliwrath calcs!

      People underestimate how much time inventory management takes. Picking up the TM and teaching the move takes longer than an extra attack in battle, so it’s really only worth it if it’s useful in multiple battles or prevents a reset

    Wouldn’t Thunder Punch have more utility with Sentret being weaker? It takes care of the resets against the red Gyrados and gives you the potential to paralyze Chuck, increasing the odds you luck through there while not restricting your moves since you can buy as many as you need.
    As always, love your videos Scott. I will say things appeared a little rushed with Sentret’s video but I know you’re on one heck of a time crunch with the delays from the first of the year and then getting a video out this week with the delays to the Mother’s Day video you planned out. @NativeGolfer10 15 дней назад

      @@ScottsThoughtsPokemon That’s good to know. I just assumed it would. Even with the lack of a KO, a two hit that would prevent resets from the Gyrados right? Maybe using Magnet for Thunde Punch or Pink Bow with Quick Attack with can be on its moveset for priority if Gyrados will KO with 2 thrashes? It won’t make a large difference but maybe it’s a bit more consistent and doesn’t change that much from your current route. If nothing else, maybe that helps with some of the frustration around Sentret being such a weak first stage. You are the Pokémon master and I enjoy seeing your mind work Scott.

    I don’t care about the intro, this was probably hard enough to produce without people people hyper critical. Sentrent is maybe the worst regional rodent in the series. Johto is my favorite region but it really got the short end of the stick with Pokémon.
    Btw, I think you probably meant that ice punch does 2x damage against Clair’s dragonairs, not 1x, unless you meant return but the wording is weird.

      I don’t think this is a change I will make. I try to leave the visuals within the game unchanged so that others can experience them that way. If i change them then everyone has to experience the game that way. Maybe you can adjust monitor settings to help with battle?

  • @mr.number9279
    @mr.number9279 12 дней назад

    Is Dig still useful after Morty? It feels like Thunderpunch would work better in that slot so Gyarados isn't such a slog. I also wonder if it'd do more to Poliwrath in any meaningful way. Great run overall, Sentret doesn't have much stats but a drool-worthy movepool.

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  10 дней назад

      That’s worth considering. It is to escape caves without ropes, but that isn’t a reason to keep it over a move that would help in battles. I’ll think and experiment with this more in the future.

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  10 дней назад

      One reason to keep it is the rival’s Magneton in Victory road, the two rocket scientists’ magnemites, and Jasmine. Obviously if Fire Punch is available then Dig doesn’t offer much in terms of coverage.

    At 13:57 you would have lived the extra curse even without levelling, before Sentret was taking 19 per turn and had 40 HP, after the level it was taking 20 per turn and had 43.
    Since it is percentage based on the remaining health I am not sure curse even has a range to kill you after a level up, since your max health always increases by the same amount as your actual health.
