Also dedicating a quarter of the screen to Magikarp's nonexistent movepool is low key one of your finest moments.
Definitely a T-pose mood
Normally that side of the screen does a lot work heavy lifting. It got a break today.
The challenge hits home because of that.
It really is a testament to your talent as a creator that you can talk about a Pokémon with two moves for 100 minutes and make it interesting.
I concur.
Testify!
My fiancée read this comment to me last month.
Obviously this run is just for fun as this isn't a real University Magikarp. I will say though that because that was a Japanese only event, it is still *theoretically* impossible to beat Gen 1 with a Magikarp.... UNLESS you trade with Gen 2. There was an English Language event New York City Pokemon Center, where Magikarp got Reversal (needs to be deleted) but also BUBBLE. That is the only way anyone could have legitimately beaten these games with Magikarp. Don't really have a point just never had a good place to mention this haha.
Yeah the bubble Magikarp with Reversal is pretty cool! I want to try that one in gen2 at some point. Of course all these runs are just for fun, since it's only possible to start Yellow with a Pikachu! (Which was always very frustrating for me as a kid!)
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I think this is the first time JRose has ever commented on a video of yours! Consider that an accomplishment!
Couldn’t you just use the pokedoll to get passed the ghost marowack though?
@@jordanforbes149it's not the Marowak. There are are mandatory Channelers with Ghost Pokemon otherwise immune to Magikarp's usual learnset
I farted once
6:28: It is technically possible to teach the University Magikarp the move Tackle, though it is impractical. It would require using the Move Reminder in Pokémon Stadium 2, which you can use once every time you complete the Elite Four & Champion portion of the Gym Leader Castle, and the University Magikarp would need to be in your party for all five Stadium 2 battles (but doesn't necessarily need to participate in any of the five battles).
I do like that if a person spends another day in another game, the University Magikarp could probably not require items. Or at least not be walled at Erika, and possibly only be walled at Sabrina.
@@iantaakalla8180 lol
Woah. That's wild
I had no idea they had Move Reminder before Emerald. Kind of like, up until a couple weeks ago, I had no idea you could get pokeballs from Professor Oak before you leave for the forest. I thought that was only in FR / LG
This just goes to show that Early Pokémon wasn’t super user-friendly 😂
I, and I think many others, very much appreciate the detail in the overlay! I, as a small child, came to the ironclad conclusion that stat moves were too small to be helpful, and being able to see just how each number changes in each circumstance is incredibly helpful! I am also a serial listener of RUclips content, and your videos are wonderful for that purpose!
Couldn't agree more
Yes to all of this comment.
Just want to note with how Gen 1 and 2 works, you can't trade Pokemon from the JP versions to the international versions without the international save corrupting, so the University Magikarp truly is locked to the 20 Japanese cartridges that obtained it back then.
Oh i'm well aware, it wasn't until generation 4 you where finally able to trade freely around the world with no worries of corrupting your data.
Or, y'know, a Japanese Gen 2 copy
@@CecilTheDarkKnight234 Gen 3 was actually the starting point for international trading? Likely didn't see much use since you had to trade locally.
@@fifaworldcup1994 or a Japanese copy of Stadium 1 or 2. With there only being 20 copies, they were likely kept on the Gen 1 cartridges which are dead by now.
@@Mrperson0yeah if there's someone out there who still owns that Magikarp legitimately I doubt they would ever know they have one of the most unique Pokémon ever distributed
Thumbs up if you want to see Scott do a run with Magicarp with bubble and tackle (and eventually delete splash via move deleter) in Gen 2. And perhaps also in Gen 1 via trade :)
fun fact the guy who sold james the magikarp also tried to sell james a weepinbell at the end of the johto arc, james got outvoted by jesse and meowth to trade his *victreebell* for *weepinbell* except his weepinbell also hated him, did nothing, evolved into victrebell, james gave it the greatest boot ever, and then it fell in love with the original victreebell and was never seen again. all in one episode. I miss the OG anime days
I had no idea this was a thing 😂😂
James' og Victreebell actually liked him. The biting him every time he came out the pokeball was it's way of showing affection towards James
YES! I knew this was gonna be university magikarp! I think there was also an event bubble magikarp in GSC.
There is..
That technically means there is a Magikarp that can beat RBY without items.
@@iantaakalla8180 yeah and I think someone ran both bubble and Dragon Rage (and of course tackle) Magikarp.. wanna say it was Jrose during his month of Jrose
@@adventureoflinkmk2 why would you say something that can be checked so easily? Jrose did not attempt this run… confirming this took 30 seconds
@@thomashartka2926 my guy, chill. I remember that run as well but I also forgot who did it.
This was painful to watch. But not as painful as you suffering this play through. Here’s your medal sir. 🥇Thank you for your services.
You’re welcome!
I listen to this at work and I appreciate when you mention to look at the screen when something interesting happens.
ive really enjoyed the evolution of the overlay. it's really nice and presents all the information in a good way.
Regarding University Magikarp,
From what i've heard atleast, it actually was given that Trainer's OT, unlike any other event pokemon at that time.
I'd imagine nowadays there's probably 0 way to truly see if this is true or not considering as you said, a legitimate University Magikarp likely no longer exists unless there was some kid out there who **really** wanted to preserve it for god knows whatever reason
I mean its rare, maybe there would be value in that. But its been so long odds are it has been evolved or lost to time.
@@Aliyah_666 More probably, batteries keeping him alive run out
Overlay is looking awesome these days. Those quality of life features are what keeps me coming back to this channel and sets you apart. You do a really good job with them.
Thanks so much
I'm very satisfied with the way you progressively made concessions to advance in the game. You showed us how one thing wouldn't work before bending your rules. Well done!
i don't know if this works in yellow, but i think you could use an elixir after lorelei because you can fish in her room to waste splash pp
Omg. That’s amazing!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon yep, i remember people softlocking that room and pointing out you can fish in there.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
It should also work for Lance as in gen 1 are the button part of the statues in his rooms treated as water tiles and therefor can you fish in them too.
Well according to Bulbapedia you can still fish for Magikarp, Goldeen, and Poliwag in her room using the Old and Good Robs in Pokemon Yellow.
@@DarkCT people being Pikasprey
I remember my cousin telling me, when I was in like second grade, that some pokemon learn moves earlier or get moves they can't get in there evolved for if they don't evolve. So in yellow, I leveled up a magikarp to like 40 or 50 with such training. I thought since it didn't learn a move by that point, maybe magikarp was going to learn a crazy good move. The days before the internet were weird lol
The early days of the internet and schoolyard rumors where the existence of missingno and mew made every insane thing your friend tells you could be true.
That is true for the Stone evolutions and I think there are some edge cases elsewhere... I can't entirely recall. I am glad that Gen 6 onwards gave a use to having unevolved Pokemon, as they level up faster, if they were supposed to have evolved by then.
@@HighPriestFuneral The Eeveelutions were the only exceptions to Stone evolutions not having learnsets in Gen 1. Also, Gen 5 kind of gave a use for unevolved Pokemon with the introduction of Eviolite which is useful if you get it before your starter or main Pokemon become fully evolved.
I'm so sorry
@@HighPriestFuneralfor example, Mudkip can't learn Hydro Pump unless you level it up really high before evolving. Weedil and Caterpie learn an awesome bug type move only if you don't evolve at 7. (Maybe in 3rd gen? Not in gen 1.)
Most pokemon learn moves faster if they don't evolve. So you can get the top moves earlier, if you don't want the stat boosts from evolving.
Obedience School Magikarp
I like the idea of these 'cloned event pokemon' and seeing how they do also.
You ABSOLUTE mad lad, this is beyond insane
Gen 1 carts don't die as quickly as Gen 2. My husband and I have quite a few (mine, his, his cousin's, and even one we picked up in Japan) and all of them (6 or so in total) still hold their saves. His cousin actually had a Toys R Us event Mew on it that must have been from 1999 or so.
However, if you wanna be super safe, you want to transfer the Pokemon to a Stadium game. I forget the details why but there's some reason that n64 cartridge saves are almost impossible to be lost.
Gen 2 has the internal battery because of the clock and days, thus it runs out iirc after like 15 years. Since there's no need to keep track of stuff like that in gen 1, it keeps saves for way longer.
The probability of your trainer ID alone matching the University Magikarp's trainer ID would be 1/65535 since that is the possible range for IDs from 00000 to 65535. However you would also have to match the trainers name which if you include all the potential combinations of characters that would push the odds to 1/2,147,483,648 in Gen 1 and Gold/Silver since the OT can only be male but in Crystal the odds go up to 1/4,294,967,296 since the OT can be male or female. From Gen 3 onward, it's impossible to have a traded Pokemon obey you accidentally by matching trainer ID, secret ID, and trainer name because the catch location of the Pokemon is listed as "Met in trade" which actually controls whether the Pokemon is owned or not in Gen 3 onward.
Does the trainer name actually matters? Because you could just transfer the Magikarp to a cartridge, see it's trainer name and then initiate a new game in another cartridge and give the same trainer name, just needing to reset for the ID.
I calculate the expected number of attempts needed to match the ID considering the 1/65535 sucess rate. It would have 50% probability to get it within 45426 attempts, or 90% probability to get it within 150901 attempts.
@@anlev11 Yeah that is true unless the OT name was randomized too you would just have to name your character the same name as the OT and then try and roll for that ID over and over. That's where a tool assisted run would be useful since it would get that roll first try lol.
University Magikarp has officially stolen my heart! Whether it be rebellious or studious I think it's earned it's degree in Advanced Struggle with a Minor in Dragon Rage and spot as valedictorian of all Gen 1 Magikarp!
Oh my god, University Magikarp looks so cute! But even with Dragon Rage, I don't know how fast it is going to be... perhaps 2 hours? I'm so excited to see! ^o^
EDIT: Few minutes in and I saw that I was a bit too optimistic. This aged worse than a dairy drink.
You’d need to be a probability manipulator for that to happen.

Some say that Scott and the Disobedient University Magikarp are still training in Diglett's Cave to this very day.
What a run.The first attempt was very disheartening. The only way past Erika would be a perfect sequence of events, and who knows how long it would take to get it, let alone if it's even possible.
Nice that you were able to get as far as you could in the second run, before you had to resort to items. Also, who knew that Paralysis from Agatha would be much more helpful during the final battle?
I really didn't think the paralysis would help, but it was a happy surprise :)
First: amazing dedication
Second: amazing "Never Give Up"
Third: I truly am shocked at that outcome!
I never knew how much I did not know about this game. Course... even over the course of my entire life, I have not played it as many times as you have despite growing up with it as one of my favorite games.
I just love the Idea, that in this timeline, every trainer could walk up to any other trainer and talk about that one time when one lunatic beat them up with his weird dragonrage Magikarp and then proceeded to defeated Lance and the Champ with it while it was paralyzed.
You mention having the overlays in your video and I can honestly really appreciate that extra work! Its so nice being able to see the moves, stats and all the information when glancing over

Scott you're actually insane haha! I can't believe the level of commitment you have for these videos. 18 hours on a single magikarp run 😅 and I was enthralled the whole time! I like when you give information on the event Pokémon because knowing about the university magikarp was a little bit of fun trivia I never knew before.
Shame magikarp can't beat the game normally though as it'd have been hype if it could only learn tackle haha!
Have a great Christmas Scott and look forward to your videos in the new year!
Thanks for the comment Colin. It makes me happy that the video kept you enthralled.
"I just coded a rom that does it" is the smoothest flex I've heard in a while and it somehow isn't the biggest in this video. The fact that you actually tried doing this without healing items when the Jrose run was done with items (I think? Been a while) is pretty crazy on its own. Props for being thorough.
Your overlay is so convenient. I just recently discovered your channel and I think this is what really puts your content above other Pokemon RUclipsrs. The Power for the Moves astonishes me the most.
I hope you found a way to read this data out the emulator so you do not edit this piece by piece into the video. If you do, you're a maniac.
Anyway, great content. Keep up the good work. I'll be watching.
Much Love from Germany 🇩🇪😀
I'm pretty sure he has said that it is autogenerated he doesn't have to do any of it manually
Yup, his software looks directly at the game’s memory and pulls the relevant data. It’s why you can see things like the badge boost glitch happening in stages (i.e. opponent uses tail whip, defense drops, badge boost triggers)
Yup, it don’t automatically. You can watch one of my more recent streams to see it in action.
I also really like to be able to look at a Pokémon’s stats and the opponent’s stats at any time, so I really like that you also like that and decided to add it all to the overlay
I've never been so invested in the success of a Magikarp before
Dude I love how you know exactly how to set everything up on screen for us to digest it in the background. I find myself constantly watching your videos. Your format? Chefs kiss.
Thanks so much. Glad the design has an impact!
All I know is that magikarp card that was given out is worth a lot of money now.
I bet!
Just looked it up. A PSA 10 is worth roughly 65 thousand dollars.
Your videos, their movie-like quality, your dedication... For all of these things and even more you deserve really a lot. Congratulations Scott
Thank you so much 😀
This run is WILD haha. Plus, there is a bubble magikarp from Gotta Catch 'Em All Station! January 24 to 30, 2003 - meaning that it might be more possible given STAB and you an also learn tackle (you get it at level 5)
The winter cyclone has hit my house and I'm comfy in bed watching Magikarp win it all. Thanks for all the content this month!
I love that this was basically a disobedient vs obedient Dragon Rage run
I love the overlay just for the reason you stated, also wanted to thank you for your patience because this series wouldn’t have lasted without your patience and persistence, thank you for having both for challenging yourself but also entertaining those of us with curiosity but lack of drive to try. You’re one of my favorite channels I subscribe to and I love seeing your content 😁 hope you have a good holiday this weekend

Well, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, an education can get you very far. I’m going to finish college so I can learn Dragon Rage, just like Magikarp!
Heya! Here after being away for a while (I generally tend to not watch longer videos unless I'm doing something else or it's really wild content), and I love all the new trainer portraits that popped up. Ever since the Wrapping Lass got her own, I've been looking forward to seeing if any other noteworthy trainers get them and I'm really happy when I do. I also really love your battle transitions. Going from the sign that you entered a battle to after it is something I've only seen once before (in a Lost Odyssey LP, of all things), and it's genuinely the best way I can think of to handle unimportant encounters.
I'm happy you're getting so big as a channel, and I hope things are going great for you and your fiance!
The rival's reaction at 1:25:13 perfectly sums up this entire run.
omg i can't believe you even did the mewtwo and oak fights, this video was wild, i loved it. thanks for your hard work in december bringing a video each day💜
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed December.
10:11 If I remember correctly, blacking out in the wild Pokemon battle in this situation causes the game to instantly put you in another, glitched wild encounter when you reenter the area. This is most famously used in front of the mandatory Bug Catcher in Viridian Forest to acquire a level 1 Nidoking that, upon leveling up, jumps straight to level 100.
It's just another way to do the Trainer-Fly/Mew glitch.
It’s pretty neat that there is a “casual way” to do the Mew glitch
Thank you for the last thing you said in the video. Also I don't watch it in the background. I appreciate your layout and looking even at the stat increases. That must be a lot of work. Great content. Also, finally a video with the fish that could, that actually managed to do it somehow. Love your channel. I don't wanna torture you but one day we'd like to see a magikarp with tackle, bubble, dragon rage and no splash take on the challenge, if it's possible to customize. Thanks for the content 🙌🏻
I want to use the Bubble magikarp in the future! Maybe a year or two from now though.
32:48 Dude! I felt so bad for poor Magikarp. It did nothing wrong, except splash about wanting to live its best life. That episode turned me into a die-hard Magikarp fanboy. It became my all-time favorite Pokémon, well before the memes and ironic love the little fish gets these days. To this day, Magikarp always has a permanent place on my team.
Do you let it evolve?
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon nope.
Brutal run brother, but you're the man for putting over 10 hours into this
University Magikarp looked so cute. I don't dislike Magikarp because it is interesing itself. I like seeing it do fine in a challenge. I never heard of that event before. The emoting Magikarp in the beginning was cute too.
Sarina's art is awesome!
We must imagine Scott happy, I think.
What an absolute nightmare of a run. I think this Magikarp was more likely to be a college dropout than a graduate. But it was fun watching the misery and the (eventual) (sorta) Magikarp win.
I always thought the obedience thresholds were really generous. They're obviously there to nerf any high level pokemon you get. It makes sense that a lv15 pokemon you get at the start of the game shouldn't be consistent, but man you get no obedience for the hardest parts of the game
It really was a genius idea to make sure you couldn't trade your friend's Level 85 Mewtwo and expect to crush the game. I mean... you will... but it will be a lot more annoying and less fun than one may think since they will be ignoring you in most cases.
Appreciate all the work you’ve been doing with these videos. No matter if it’s an easy run like Gengar or an impossible run like Magikarp.
Should try Scarlet/Violet with Flying Pika. Pikachu can learn surf via tm in SB btw. Would be pretty fun. Thunderbolt, Surf, Dig and Fly with the flying terra type.
I love the overlay. Most questions I have about the playthrough I can answer by looking up and down the screen
That's exactly why I made it! I was always frustrated having to go to Bulbapedia while watching a video, so I figured I should try to use the dead space and provide the information when it was needed!
After seeing numerous people in Jroses comment section say how they felt like he was a superior content creator, I'm here to say this... Why does anyone have to be "better"? You're both obviously different people with different styles, personalities, etc. Which means that even if you uploaded the exact same pokemon video it would be vastly different which also means more content to watch!
They call him fat? I've never even seen a picture of the guy.
And if either of them is successful, then the RUclips algorithm will push more pokemon challenge videos making everyone more successful
I just hope that the community is happy there is more content! We all succeed together!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I wholeheartedly agree bud!
Congrats!! I ran a University Magikarp through Pokemon Red back in the day, so it was very cathartic getting to watch someone else suffer the pain of early-game obedience and only 10 Dragon Rage PP ^_^ (Plus you also fought Professor Oak! More runners should do that, doesn't feel like a full run without the true final boss >:)
i am over the moon for this; i love to see more event moves pokemon be used more in challenge runs. other then this karp; i do think you should add "event" to the title to make sure people know the moveset isn't normal but thats up to you.
Your most insane video by far and also one of the most incredible.
Man, I knew x items were busted in gen 1, but actually seeing the numbers and final results are something else.
Yeah. Seeing the numbers is sort of mind boggling.
Awesome run, though I’m only half way through. It seems that maybe the best option would be to trade to other games:
GSC and use the move deleter to remove splash. So you can either Dragon rage or struggle.
Pokémon Stadium 2: if you can grind up a team to beat the game there was a move reminder. But I remember the game being insanely hard
I’m not sure if this is against the rules: grinding levels in GSC after you have all the badges for obedience just to speed things up for you
This run will be Hell
Scott you really rocked the end of the year! I’m so happy you exist and make these awesome videos. Have a great holiday season!
Thanks so much @Btown144, I hope you had a great holiday season.
Haven't watched the full video but I feel like using splash at the beginning of the game is more optimal given how frequently it disobeys and uses the wrong move. If you only have two moves it's always going to use the other one. I could be wrong though!
Good point. Given how disobedience works, he basically had 40 pp of Dragon Rage.
What a behemoth of a task you put yourself through! I was glad to see Professor Oak fight make a surprise reappearance though.
Magikarp will set the record 😉
Abra must be quivering 🤣🤣
Maybe to Brock
He sure did
Love the overlay! I watch in the background and love checking up on where the pokemon are at, etc.
Haven't watched this, but I'm gonna guess this run is going to end at Agatha when you run out of Dragon Rage PP
That’s what I thought!
Instead, the problem was actually around the same area except the limit was Erika as opposed to the trainer. That literally means University Magikarp is not any better save for being able to hit ghosts
@@iantaakalla8180 Where would you say a standard Magikarp is better?
I guess in being able to beat Erika? I don’t see that as a meaningful difference; both Magikarp are stuck at the same place.
My new favorite video for sure! I can't believe you actually gave it a different trainer ID you mad lad lol
I would love to see you compare this run with the Gen 2 event Magikarp that can learn bubble.
This might be close enough
ruclips.net/video/YxDIXhKjBrM/видео.html
I'll do it
Great video man, as always
Man... Disobedience was brutal in Gen 1...
It's still brutal. I tried to train a Gengar in Violet, and it was useless for half the run. If I'd been more direct about the route I may have had less issue, but I wanted to explore the game a bit, not just rush the gyms.
I love in the anime Surges Raichu has 5 moves, body slam, takedown, thunderbolt, mega punch and kick. It also uses tail whip without being told to
Speaking of obedience, in Scarlet and Violet it seems like if you catch a Pokemon that's beyond the level cap yourself, you'll have obedience issues until you have enough badges.
Dunno if you experienced this in your game or not, but it's something I noticed with getting to Casseroya Lake before finishing the gyms.
Yeah I’ve encountered that too. Considering the open-world nature of the game I think it’s a logical change - wouldn’t it “suck” to just randomly Fast Ball a Pokémon and steamroll the game with it? (Exact meaning of suck may vary by individual, from a game design viewpoint that is certainly not a good outcome)
A neat change! But if you level up a Pokemon to the same threshold it will have no issues?
@@HighPriestFuneral if it works like it does in PLA it's based on what level you get the Pokemon at
I almost feel bad enjoying this run. That’s so much time and effort! Way to see it through to the bitter end though!
What if you made the ‘impossible’ tier pokemon a team? Like see if it’s possible to beat the game with a team of caterpie, metapod and magikarp? (Or just two of them)
Your dedication to a pokemon game is crazy, so here's a sub your way.
Welcome aboard! Glad you liked the video :)
As of 25 minutes in, I think I know where this run ends. With 16 PP on Dragon Rage, even if Magikarp survives long enough to use all of its Dragon Rages, I don't think it can get past Agatha. 40*16 = 640, and I'm pretty sure Agatha's pokemon have a total of more HP than that. But maybe there's something I'm missing.
This was my initial assumption
Wow Scott. You've outdone yourself on this one. Amazing
Thanks!
Hey, slowest time is also a type of record.. Right?
I haven't started the vid properly yet, but I gotta say now, I am so glad you did this, I commented it a few times and hoped you'd do a vid like this, can't wait to see how it goes.
I have just finished the vid, oh my Lord Helix that was rough, that was a male wailord breeding with a skitty rough. I feel so bad for you that you couldn't do it with your rules, I was thought you could, maybe another day in the future. so glad you mentioned the Gen 2 Magikarp with Bubble, maybe try that next.
Also save you a bit of time, add Weedle and Katuna to impossible, JRose tried with Weedle, can't be done without 1 in a several trillion luck
I just watched this on Patreon and I really enjoyed it! I wonder if it'll be possible to beat Pokemon yellow with the event bubble magikarp?
Good question!
It always tickles my fancy whenever Scott mentions Starcraft
I absolutely love that when you beat a trainer only to flee inside diglett cave after each fight it felt like in your waning sanity that cave was your safety blanket like, "no, no. Too much, overwhelmed, back to diglett."
Interesting tidbit I learned during a recent game of Yellow; dig and teleport sometimes have different areas that one can use while the other can't, so it may be beneficial to have both a diglett and an abra with you. I only mention this because you say you couln't dig out of some spaces but didn't say you tried teleport, too.
Ouch...Gym Leader Matt was only able to beat the game because he had both Dragon Rage AND Bubble. You basically had to pull a JRose Impossible Challenge strats to take this on without that and Tackle! I'm really glad you were able to bear the challenge in the end.
Now go and get some rest from that run! You've earned it today, Scott! Indulge yourself with some Fish and Chips tonight. XD
I don't blame you in the slightest for how you finished this run Scott.
Given the challenges you put yourself through, the sheer volume of videos this month, and your fiance probably wanting to spend time with you at some point before 2023, why don't we call this a Mental Welfare Run? :P
Hi Scott, I'm not sure if you'll see this comment (apologies if anyone else posted it or if it's in the video! I wanted to get it out before I forgot) but I believe the OT of the Magikarp is "Tamamushi" (aka Celadon City) and they have a trainer ID incremented from 00001 through 00020 (so they all have different Trainers named Tamamushi). This is based on my memory so it may be untrue since I researched this a long time ago. As you said none of these exist legitimately anymore and I doubt people would remember such specific details especially since they were likely children at the time as it was published in a magazine aimed at primary schoolers.
I'm assuming Bulbapedia doesn't have this info because there's no paper evidence, unlike other rare Pokémon like event Mews etc where they displayed the summary of the Pokémon (Magikarp only had the moves displayed)
Poor magikarp its a rebel without a cause lol great video bro
I'm pumped for this! Thanks Scott ✨️
Describing your brainstorming after the explanation of Obedience Level mechanics, I said to myself, _out loud_ , that "this is painful," with a weary chuckle. You poor, poor bastard. You suffer for us all.
