I have an idea for a run. Can you beat a pokemon game using "Good AI"? Meaning, you have to attack completely randomly unless your pokemon has a super effective move(s), in which case you have to use that. Don't know if it would be possible using a single pokemon so this one could be a team challenge
The Skill Swap strat is fair imo, for the reasons you mentioned of prior precedent and because otherwise it would have genuinely been impossible. If it's not being done to be optimal, but just to make it even possible, then it's fine in my eyes
Jrose, fury cutter was actually buffed and its 40 base power in current generation, not 20. It's actually a semi decent move if it was 100% accurate. As an extra bonus, it's one of the moves that actually gets a 50% boost from sharpness too.
That magikarp run from 2019 is really special to me. It was the first video that I watched that was not in my Native language. I understood about 50% off the video and since then, i haven't missed a single upload from you and pretty much became fluent in english with the help of RUclips videos (including yours)
dude. you’ve been so good to us this month w all this content. I still gotta catch up but it’s been so appreciated. thanks for all the time and effort!
One of the things that makes these runs interesting is how you overcome challenge. The Sylveon thing is brilliant, because you manage to find a way to let the magicarp beat ghosts! Good on ya mate!
Extraordinarily fun video! It is extremely entertaining to watch you guide us through each step of the playthrough, especially the losses. It is a testament to your style and quality of your videos that we can spent nearly two hours watching a video while remaining fully invested. Phenomenal work!
Somehow a magikarp wrecking house with the power of friendship feels like a fitting present for this Christmas eve, thanks, Jrose, it was nice seeing a more casualish playthrough by you.
Gamefreak added that auto heal feature to make the game even easier than it already was, but it turns out that seemingly innocuous addition that most players wouldn't even notice is what makes this run impossible. Palpatine: Ironic. It's still impressive that Magikarp got that far regardless.
Honestly you’ve inspired me to do a specific kind of run, gen 1 with a tradable Pokémon. Like when you got that Spearow to the Elite 4 before dropping him off. I wanna do a minimum battles run that gets Dux the Farfetch’d. You taught me about badge boosts and I always thought he was broken after a swords dance or two. I think you could rush down the first three leaders with Squirtle and then set up the tech for the remaining game.
37:37 You can get 50 Dragon and 50 Rock shards if you do all of the art and math classes, but I'm pretty sure you need more badges to complete the classes
Yeah, solo runs aren't technically possible anymore, cause there are mandatory double battles. So yeah, if the gym leader forces you into a double, there's no longer just Magikarp, so go for it, make the partner help them.
i hope you give yourself some time for the new year, this upload rate is awesome but i don't want you to burn yourself out. Thank you for all this content, by far my favorite pokemon related.
In my opinion, challenge runs have to be fun for the player. I think the stretch to use a specific second pokemon to apply a gymmic resulting in magikarp still being the only pokemon dealing damage in fight is creative and fun. You don't earn a medal, there is nothing official and i think the "jrose spirit" is respected. :)
regarding the Metronome item, I do like how various items and moves are much more viable in tera raids than they've been in traditional battles, let alone competitive play. Normally Screech is way worse than Swords Dance, but in a Tera Raid, both are viable moves. Similarly, Metronome will stack higher than Choice Band/Specs after 3 hits, and the opponent can't switch out. though it's a shame some abilities and moves are specifically nerfed in Tera Raids. I raised an Oricorio hoping it'd be effective, but its Dancer ability apparently doesn't work in Tera Raid battles. I guess four Oricorios copying each other's Quiver, Feather, and Revelation Dances would be pretty busted, but they could have limited Dancer to once-per-turn, instead of shutting it down completely.
I'm totally fine with you using Sylveon's Pixilate to help Magikarp beat the Ghost gym. That's a totally clever play, and you would've been completely helpless there otherwise. Man, if only Magikarp still had access to Bounce and Hydro Pump... Bounce could've easily gotten you past that Annihilape for sure. Not sure why Game Freak decided to remove those moves from Magikarp's move pool in Gen. 9. It's not like theye would break the meta or anything. (Also, wow, I've had this video bookmarked for over a year, but only now just realized I hadn't watched it yet. Well, better late than never!)
tbh, I watch these videos for the cool ideas and techniques you use to finish these runs, so even if using Sylveon is against "the rules", it's still awesome and you should totally still do stuff like that in the future if you have to; it definitely makes your videos [even] more interesting.
Boy did I do these events out of order. I was under the impression you could face the gyms or events in whatever order you wanted. But in the end, I got the same results.
Three Magicarps went into a party. That was such a splash, although there were a few struggles. Nevermind, I'm sort of Flailing my tackle on puns... I don't know where I'm going with this, but I enjoy the content a lot. Anyways, time to use this video as a Pokémon podcast while doing my homework.
I'm late but I finally finished it today, this run is stupendous and after that brilliant ghost gym victory, I was really excited to see it all happen. Happy Holidays Jrose and we'll see you in the new year unless you sneak in a final video
1:10:26 - Nemona is the strongest in the game, barring you and the Professor AI. She did the entire Gym Challenge before you did at least a year ago (with Geeta specifically mentioning that Nemona held way back when beating her after your own battle with her). She’s just weaker throughout the journey because she’s trying to groom you into her equal, someone who can match or exceed her at her best so she can fight on to satisfaction. She picked the Starter weak to yours and caught new Pokémon to tail your progress by doing the Gyms all over again. I guess she likes that team better than her last one because she even uses it in the post-game.
would you ever consider doing a fun run of any generation? i think it would be really cool to watch you pick your favorite team and give us insight into why your chose them or the challenges you have to complete to get the pokémon you want

Truly cant believe you even tried this. You are an absolute legend. I cant imagine magikarp beating the professor anyway. Kudos to you, JRose and thank you for an amazing month of content.
Magikarp can still technically hatch with Bounce. It's part of Magikarp's TM movepool, even if it's not a TM anymore, meaning if you have a Magikarp from an earlier generation that knows Bounce and another Pokemon in one of its egg groups that knows Bounce, you can hatch a Magikarp that knows Bounce in S/V.
But how could you do it? Even without considering that Home doesn't yet connect to SV, when it eventually will do it, the moveset of the Magikarp with bounce that you need to transfer will be reset. Or your plan is to transfer an egg? Even in this case I don't know if it's going to be possible
@@Makenor13 exactly. The only way it could be possible currently is through the discord showdown bots. Or by someone that does it themselves with a computer and memory cards. We won't be able to use home until April which is an absolute outrage
@@Makenor13 Given Game Freak introduced the Bounce TM in the DLC for Sw/Sh, I wouldn't completely count out the possibility of a TM getting introduced in S/V later on, but an egg transfer would probably be the "easiest" method, given the DLC was intended as post-game in Sw/Sh. That being said, beating the game and then transferring a fresh Magikarp with Bounce into a new game would be a differently difficult run, because for the Magikarp to be any use, it would have to be over-leveled to the point where it would ignore most commands.
Month of Jrose was truly a great gift to all of us. Thanks to you and the people that made this possible. Happy holidays to everyone! And also, an unown solo run in any gen would be really cool, particularly gens 1-3.
I recently got back into binge watching your David and Goliath challenge videos, and I subbed to compensate for missing out. Love your content bro, plz keep up the great work torturing yourself for our amusement.

It's kind of funny of all the weird held items the game has there isn't one that lets you hit ghost. Obviously Game freak builds the game around Nerfing Magikarp.
I got an idea. Pokemon, but the worst thing that can happen will always happen. i.e. the opposing pokemon will always critical hit, your attacks (unless 100% accurate) will always miss, opposing pokemon's abilities like poison point, static, flame body, etc, will activate 100% of the time, etc. Everything bad that can happen will always happen. I think this will make for a fun strategic experience where you can't rely on luck. ;)
It's appropriate you used a Sylveon in the forced double battle, as all the nerfs to Magikarp made it such that you were dependent on friendship the entire run XD
This was such an interesting video. Props to Jrose for doing this and for the narration as well ! It's really fun to see that the thing that ended up being impossible to beat was the only major trainer with one Ghost-type Pokémon in a single battle. Only one ghost, Annihilape, was needed to stop Magikarp's sweep, and not even the Ghost-type champion herself. When we think about it, this game was very favorable to Magikarp, because of Ryme being cheesable via double battle shenanigans and Nemona Terrastalizing her Skeledirge to remove the Ghost-type. If any other major trainer had some Ghost-type Pokemon (and this game has no shortage of Ghost Pokémon, like Ceruledge, Brambleghast, Dragapult, Houndstone, Gholdengo), the run could have ended way more abruptly than that, or create at least a very very big roadblock.
i really enjoyed the pixilate skill swap sylveon tech you did to deal with ghost types. I think it’s still true to the magikarp sólo because he is dealing all the damage and taking as much dmg as possible per forced double battle! If game freak forced you to heal AND forced you to double battle then i feel like it’s totally fair and honestly a genius workaround that keeps the spirit of the challenge intact
I adore your solution to the Ghost doubles problem. I mean, "Technically" one could argue it breaks the spirit of the run, but IMO at the end of the day these videos are meant for entertainment. And for me, watching someone impose these wild stipulations on themself, running into a problem and developing an out-of-the-box solution is pretty entertaining.
They need to make an Item that Karps come holding: Diem Rose And it makes Splash a base 200 Atk move while a Magikarp is holding it, but also hardlocks Karps that come with it from ever evolving to Gyarados or being able to drop the Rose. Like Yellow version Pikachu locked out of Thunderstone
Jrose you are simply the most consistent and best quality youtuber in recent history! I also love that you don't plug stupid sponsors in your videos, you don't know just how much we appreciate that! You're the best 💪
I think it is extremely weird that magikarp can't learn more moves in this gen. They made a whole tournament in SwSh where you had to have magikarp out at all times and it was fun because magikarp had 5 moves Splash Tackle Flail Bounce Hydro Pump with that you would actually have a way cooler time because it allowed for some strategy (for example running splash instead of tacke for dynamax protect, in this gen it would allow you to tera water or tera normal for cool stuff) sad they removed that versatility
Magikarp could never learn Hydro Pump via TM/level up, it was an event Pokemon (like Gen 1 Dragon Rage Magikarp and Gen 2 Bubble Magikarp). Bounce was from move tutors, which stopped existing. So not that weird.
The item assault vest gives you a 1.5x boost to your special defence, but more importantly for this video, prevents you from using status moves, such as Splash. If your only move is splash, you can give it an assault vest to have it use Struggle from the start of the battle, which would have allowed you to make it approximately 2 battles further than you did previously.

@Plain Water ah i see
you are the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is his caaauuse
To train them is my cause
C-C-COMBO BREAKER!
That magikarp run from 2019 is really special to me. It was the first video that I watched that was not in my Native language. I understood about 50% off the video and since then, i haven't missed a single upload from you and pretty much became fluent in english with the help of RUclips videos (including yours)
“Seize the run, Carpe Diem!” Is such a frickin raw line.
dude. you’ve been so good to us this month w all this content. I still gotta catch up but it’s been so appreciated. thanks for all the time and effort!
You are pumping these out making Christmas much more enjoyable. Thanks!
The true meaning of Christmas.
One of the things that makes these runs interesting is how you overcome challenge. The Sylveon thing is brilliant, because you manage to find a way to let the magicarp beat ghosts! Good on ya mate!
Can’t tell if the slow downs are Jrose being artistic or the game chugging. 😅😂😂
The Sylveon idea is freaking genius. This is why I love your videos!
Thank you for all this content, by far my favorite pokemon related.
great job dude, you killed it this month.
Mad props to you for the work put into this, can't imagine how long it all took. Great video!
I just beat Scarlet with an Arrokuda and after my run I respect your solo runs much more. Also I love the name, seize the day!
Great analysis & run video! Thanks for uploading!
Looking forward to that other run you mentioned at the end!
regarding the Metronome item, I do like how various items and moves are much more viable in tera raids than they've been in traditional battles, let alone competitive play.
I was worried that the month of Jrose would lead to 6 months without Jrose 😂
This Scarlet run gets the OG Bug Catcher official stamp of approval! 👍
My dude released a video everyday for a month and then disappeared for a month. Jrose come back! We need you
Exactly, did he mention something?
@@wolfen888 maybe, I'm not sure. Didn't actually finish this one
@@wolfen888 Pretty sure he said he was gonna chill for a bit
Awesome video. 👌 Love all the content and the Month of Jrose was great.
Glad to see you back streaming as well man! People may be knuckle heads on stream but nothing but positivity from a lot of us as your fans!
Went from month of jrose to norose. Hope you’re ok man.
Good work on the month of videos straight, Jrose! I hope you're break isn't as long, but at the same time, you should take all the time you need to recover. When you feel like doing more videos, we'll all be watching.
Imagine if we could hear the sound of Magikarp's Tera hat clinking against the floor
Would you also be able to use the Mirror Herb method? Just curious if that works too for weird egg moves like that
But how could you do it?
TM moves stopped being passed down via breeding in X and Y. That does not work.
You are legendary for this. What a demonstration of perseverance and patience.
Month of Jrose was truly a great gift to all of us. Thanks to you and the people that made this possible. Happy holidays to everyone!
And also, an unown solo run in any gen would be really cool, particularly gens 1-3.
You probably meant Gen 2? It's debuted there.
Also Merry Christmas and Good New Year!
"Geeta, I've come to bargain."
Amazing video, just like always. Thanks for the dedicating so much time to make such an entertaining video!
I recently got back into binge watching your David and Goliath challenge videos, and I subbed to compensate for missing out. Love your content bro, plz keep up the great work torturing yourself for our amusement.
@23:30 the Luxio intimidate lowered your attack which is why you didn’t kill the other one
I was searching around the comments to see if someone mentioned this already before I commented it, but since I found this, I'll just give it a thumbs up so others can see it. But they probably won't see it since I had to scroll past a 100+ comments to find this 😂
These are the puns of someone who laughed at Brock's "drying pan" joke.
Was like "Why isn't he using splash to stall in order to get hit more" for the first 30 minutes, haha. Glad to see it was not forgotten as an option!
Great work Jrose, I made it to (past) the DUNDUNDUN! Sparce and I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thought of that
It's kind of funny of all the weird held items the game has there isn't one that lets you hit ghost.
Except it isn't lol. Only Magikarp can use moves. So really it ends at Ryme.
@@notscorchingsands9718 it doesn't say that anywhere in the rules. get lost u sweaty tryhard
@@SonicEndouRed Do people really use that "insult" still? I never really got it. Anyway no reason to be hostile. Just a fun video.
They need to make an Item that Karps come holding:
Diem Rose
And it makes Splash a base 200 Atk move while a Magikarp is holding it, but also hardlocks Karps that come with it from ever evolving to Gyarados or being able to drop the Rose.
Like Yellow version Pikachu locked out of Thunderstone
If GameFreak did that, they’d actually be the GOAT
1:04:54 The best pun that's ever been uttered in the history of everything
Since Sylveon did not attack I 100% count this as acceptable since they forced you into a double battle
what an incredible month of videos and this tops it - merry christmas!
Damn bro. It has been 3 weeks since your last upload. I've been missing your content. Hope you're okay. :) well wishes. Happy new year
I like that the *mechanic* to help the run at the end actually was 40 minutes away from the end. My goodness gracious, what a twist
For the entire first hour of the video I was waiting for him to go against ghost type pokemon
Bro, this is the best Christmas present you could ever give. Happy holidays mate, you've earned it
My Grandfather died an hour ago and then I get this notification. Thanks for the small comfort, Jrose. Love your stuff. Keep it up. Merry Christmas.
Man, big condolences here.
@@toumabyakuya thank you.
@@dungeonpastor You are welcome.
Oh, also, before I forget. Watch out, there's a bot faking being JRose going around.
@@toumabyakuya yeah. They're common now unfortunately.
ur an absolute legend, also happy holidays everyone
I can already tell this is going to be a WILD ride
Going to watch later anyway is it true how bad this game runs.
Jrose you are simply the most consistent and best quality youtuber in recent history! I also love that you don't plug stupid sponsors in your videos, you don't know just how much we appreciate that! You're the best 💪
I think it is extremely weird that magikarp can't learn more moves in this gen. They made a whole tournament in SwSh where you had to have magikarp out at all times and it was fun because magikarp had 5 moves
Splash
Tackle
Flail
Bounce
Hydro Pump
with that you would actually have a way cooler time because it allowed for some strategy (for example running splash instead of tacke for dynamax protect, in this gen it would allow you to tera water or tera normal for cool stuff)
sad they removed that versatility
Magikarp could never learn Hydro Pump via TM/level up, it was an event Pokemon (like Gen 1 Dragon Rage Magikarp and Gen 2 Bubble Magikarp). Bounce was from move tutors, which stopped existing. So not that weird.
@@DJFracus fair enough, i still dislike that though. I mean feebas can learn moves too and its basically just magikarp
merry christmas jrose11, this month was amazing , every more video is a treat and a delight !
