At 23:20 in the battle vs Koga, there's a play you can make. As you say yourself, the AI will only use Self-Destruct if it calculates that it would kill you. However, since you actually out-speed the Weezing, you CAN get it to select Self-Destruct thinking it'd kill you, and then as the turn starts you Harden, killing both enemy Pokemon, but leaving you with a little bit of health thanks to the extra defense! It means you'd have to not Harden at all before Weezing can damage you into Self-Destruct range, which is risky, but it could be fun to see!

I will say though, this run is Exhibit A as to why Struggle got changed in Gen 4 to remove 1/4 of your *max HP* instead of 1/4th of the damage dealt by Struggle itself every time it was used. Struggle also bypasses accuracy checks in Gen 4 onward, meaning that Sand-Attack/Double Team strats won't drag things out.

Double battles seem like the natural thing trainers would do in real situation. We have all thought "why don't they just send out all their pokemon at once and beat them up?". One pokemon at a time seems arbitrary, but two seems reasonable. It is small enough for the trainer to keep track of everything and avoid friendly fire. It also allows strategies like seen here, where you have one stalling wall with status and a fast attacker.

If this isn't the best finale for Month of Jrose, then I don't know what is. What an excellent narrative to a grindy, long challenge. This had me pretty tense. I was supposed to be doing dishes while I watched this, but the last like 20 minutes I got nothing done. Worth it.
(back to work for me. Off to watch Mah-Dry-Bread's new Fallout video)

I loved this duo so much I made them an optional boss encounter when I was running the PTU tabletop RPG. Absoutely legendary content for that final battle, Jrose, keep it up!

Youngster Joey went to Viridian Forest for a quick catch, then went on to become champion by challenging everyone to double battles

Just got past the Misty battle, and when JRose explained Kakuna's purpose on the SS Anne, I immediately thought to myself, "So Ratatta is Batman, and Kakuna is Robin, then?"

For incase there's any Pokemon newbies finding this video and watching it. When Jrose said that Guts Ability lets you ignore Burn damage, what he ACTUALLY meant I think, is that Guts lets you ignore the Attack stat debuff caused by Burn, and raises it's Attack even further

Wow, Giovanni's Nidorino using Helping Hand was... interesting. XD I love how that's only relevant in a very specific type of hack.
While I wasn't around for the original videos, I did go through all the old ones after discovering the channel, so this was a pretty nice surprise. =) The final showdown between Pidgeot and Kakuna somehow outdid the legendary Metapod vs. Metapod battle, which is something I never thought I'd say.
