We have a new 1.0.9 bug fix update now live!
The new patch is in the 1.0.9 link in the description. Old saves SHOULD work fine, however please save in a pokecenter before updating otherwise you risk corrupting your save. You should again patch your own legally acquired CLEAN BASE YELLOW ROM, do NOT apply the patch to an already patched Yellow Legacy ROM. Please be smart, take a backup of your save before updating just to be safe.

PSA: Before you get started patching anything, load your base yellow ROM into rom patcher js (or a hash checker) and check the SHA-1 hash. The base yellow hash should be SHA-1: cc7d03262ebfaf2f06772c1a480c7d9d5f4a38e1. If it is not exactly this, you have a modified or bootleg yellow ROM and you will have to find a real one. Similarly the hash of your 1.0.9 patched ROM should be SHA-1: 5cedd531b157ccebc74dbaae25f7945711975624, again if this is not exactly this, you have done something wrong and should repatch.

- Fixed mixed up HP and attack on DV screen
- Multiple-level-up learnset skipping bug fix
- Reverted Viridian Gym's music to base, and made the unused song giovanni's encounter music
- This fixes the TM and sound bugs in viridian gym
- Seafoam Islands' palette doesn't change to cave when you talk to pikachu
- Fixed Oak's lab pokeball gift typo from base game
- Persian can learn cut
- Nidoking and Nidoqueen get dig as a level 1 move, so you can use the move reminder to re-obtain it later

- Fixed a bug with type effectiveness
- Fixed daycare normal mode bug

- Switched bug catcher texts on route 9 to match their teams
- Fuchsia fossil mon flag doesn't get set if you don't have box space
- If this bug happened to you before, unfortunately it can't be reversed. You can however fish both fossil mons in Seafoam Islands B4F with a Super Rod.

- Psywave does between 100% and 150% the user's level

- If this issue happened to you already, fighting a trainer/rematching blaine inside of cinnabar gym will fix it

Love the changes, really enjoying the rom. My only complaint is the red (low) HP bar noise, would be really nice to cut that down to only a few chimes as it can get really annoying on hard mode sitting on low HP. Great work!
Ok, hear me out, Pikachu should learn double kick. Idk in case the player doesn't want to mons available around Brocks gym.

This game really is held together by duct tape and dreams. That, more than anything, truly carries on the spirit of gen 1. Ridiculous problem require ridiculous solutions.

By making agility a “bird type” it’ll never see it as being super effective against anything so thus won’t spam it like it usually would.
Bird type is a scrapped type that can only be found on missingno and…. missing no number two that is a bird/normal type…? Huh. First time I learned there’s apparently a second missingno. Gen 1 is so fascinating.
@@jeroenvdwno, bird type isn't flying type. bird type was unusued but remained in the game and has no presence on the type effectiveness chart, so it's neutral against everything
I'm five minutes into this video, and as somebody who's been playing Pokémon since '99, this is already one of the greatest things I've ever seen somebody do for one of my favorite games ever.

Pikachu specifically bothers me because he doesn't look fat. I like the rest of the sprites, but what's even the point of playing Yellow if you don't get fat pikachu?

PSA: You can spam an item, like a standard potion on Pikachu, and whether it consumed the item or not, it will raise his friendship. This allows you to acquire Bulbasaur faster.
Note: Petal Dance was buffed from 70 to 90 BP to match crystal legacy. This is not in the video because it was a last minute alteration they made after I myself noticed a couple days ago that the team forgot to make that parity change.

Grass is still extremely redundant though. Water covers the same weaknesses, except it also beats fire. You can say the same for rock and lightning as well. Fixing the accuracy for those is a nice change though because rock moves are good if they had higher accuracy. Though by fixing some of the type weirdness and weird moves that does change the meta a little bit. Grass still isn't going to be non redundant, but they might have more use in the end game content that was added.
If they limited the types so that each type can only be good against 2 types. Then that might have fixed some of the huge problems the type chart still has today. In a way that makes it so you don't need to add more types to the game. Yet still could for flavor anyway.

Its... actually a big brain move on their part ngl. Typeless move that went unused, being used for something.
I memory recall, BIRD was a different type laying unused in the code, that was an early FLY type. So good way of reusing it I suppose.

Out of context, yes, it’s very interesting.
However, it does allow the team to deal with the issue of “smart” AI where certain trainers would use super-effective-type moves against you endlessly… even if those moves don’t do any damage
For a prime example, one of Lance’s Pokémon can be cheesed by throwing in a poison type pokemon - even at a super low level - and Lance’s Pokémon will continue to use Agility, which is a Psychic type attack, and because trainer Pokémon don’t have to deal with PP limitations like the player does, it will continue to do this until you either switch Pokémon or Struggle out

It's wild how a PokeTuber is behind one of the best romhacks in the entire community(Crystal Legacy) and on his way to enshrining himself in the community with another good one. Props to you, good sir.
For those of you wondering about the Nurse Joy from Fuchsia City who dreams of being a trainer, it's from the anime episode "Ultimate test" where Ash enters the Pokémon League Admissions Exam and battles the instructor with random mons (he uses Team Rocket's mons while the instructor uses the Eevee line).
and don't forget he plans to do the same with emerald as well

@@Angel-AmariWhich is odd because I’d argue Emerald needs the least amount of change out of any mainline Pokémon game. Like maybe some encounter changes and buffing up some trainers, but that’s about it. Gen 3 is pretty balanced overall.

This legacy project is incredible. As an experimenter in Pokémon romhacks I legit love when someone puts their passion into a gaming franchise that is 25+ years old and try to make the gaming experience as best it could be. Even us OGs of Gen 1 have a better appreciation to the old gaming classic

I imagined it like Gen 2 was with Johto and Kanto.
Johto being main game, and Kanto being the Mushroom Kingdom portion thats simplified after you beat final boss of the game.

as a person who liked crystal legacy, i can almost guarantee this romhack can bring gen 1 to it's full potential without making it look like not gen 1

It’s to confuse the AI or better yet control/direct the AI trainers to make better decisions. And not spam status moves bc they appear less effective

I'll bet JRose plays this on his channel at some point in the not-too-distant future. He played and really enjoyed Crystal Legacy, and considering his primary focus is the gen 1 games, he'll almost certainly be on board with this one too.

I just finished my playthrough of this and I have to say it was absolutely amazing! I love how the pokemon can now actually learn good moves on level up. And I love the changes to moves I would never consider before. Like using Skull bash on my Taurus was so much fun!
Also, completing the Pokedex for the first time in my life has been a blast! I rotated my team throughout the entire game, and that kept it really fun and engaging throughout the whole game.
And last but not least, the changes to the trainers/gym leaders also just made it so much more fun and special to fight them. And it was sorely needed too! Thank you Smith and the Legacy Team for crafting this absolute masterpiece. 10/10

I think one fun thing to mention for Agatha's team is that her having Marowak fits in 3 ways. First it's spooky as you mentioned. Second it's a reference to it Alolan Ghost type cousin. And third it's a reference to her sister, Bertha, being a ground type specialist

@@christopherfu2169 Not explicitly but Charm using both their Pokemon, Rhydon (although Bertha uses Rhyperior as her ace) and Gengar, in Legends Arceus is about as close as you can get. At the very least they are related in some way
Agatha also uses the Alolan form in her Let's GO rematch team
What about number 4 and the most obvious and probably only real reason being that there is a Ghost Marowak in the game...

Yes, please work on the Kanto post-game in Crystal legacy. Make the Kanto gym leaders rematchable, bring back Viridian Forest, and maybe put some other goodies in there too. Anyway, Yellow Legacy looks amazing!

I actually like the mutual super effectiveness of bug and poison in gen 1. That's something we never got again in pokemon

we did too and had to argue a lot in the behind-the-scenes testers chat. But came to the decision it balanced the game really well to remove it.
@@Aerogod223 I would have just removed the poison type from the Victreebel line tbh (since Erika being too easy to sweep with cut seems to have been the main issue). Do we really need half of the grass type lines in the game to be grass/poison?
@@tabbender1232I don’t think Smith is the type of guy that would want to change any Pokémon’s type. Doesn’t mesh well with his goal of improving upon Pokemon, but not making it unrecognizable.

Rhyhorn was my first thought, but as I went through all the Pokémon in my head I came to Slowbro, and talked myself into saying the front triangle is an ear and Rhyhorn doesn't have ears.

When you first talked about this project and how you weren't initially planning to go as hard with Yellow as you did with Crystal I was a little reserved on hope for this to be a banger. But holy crap as time went on you made it clear you guys were giving this ROM hack every bit of love and care as I could have ever hoped. I would have been blown away enough just the addition of that Pokedex and minor changes, but you guys completely overhauled every lack luster part of Yellow and made a masterpiece. Thank you so much!

I really like the change of Agatha having a Marowak. But I think it would be cooler, if it wasn't the 100th late game Pokemon having Earthquake as its ground move but rocking one of its signature moves you mostly won't see in your entire playthrough
Its signature moves are objectively worse than Earthquake though.

24:50 - Holy crap! They actually used my suggestion of giving Jump Kick/High Jump Kick to the Ponyta/Rapidash line! 😭 Although someone did point out that HJK has a different name in Japanese which doesn't make sense for quadripeds but I still think it's cool! ❤
The line is literally based on a horse. Horses kick when they're spooked so it makes sense. The added coverage is welcome for it otherwise it's another bad Fire type limited to Fire and Normal coverage (and Fire type has it rough enough in Gen 1 though it's useful in some parts of the game at least).
@@ShiningJudgment666 yes I'm aware, that's why I suggested the move. What I'm saying is that someone replied to my OG comment saying that HJK's original name in Japanese is more akin to a knee strike instead of a kick, and that HJK is a mistranslation. Something like that, I haven't re-read his comment. Anyways, point being that Jump Kick would've made more sense than HJK since horses kick with their legs and not their knees.

Can't wait to play! One idea for Pikachu learning surf or fly, is that it's sprite changes if it knows one of those moves to Pikachu on a surfboard or pikachu with balloons. Would be pretty fun for this game

Just beat yellow legacy, great work Pat and team, this is really Pokemon Yellow perfected. The team changes, being able to use pokemon I previously couldn’t and all the QOL changes really make this a joy to play.

Scott loved the game but found some annoying bugs, aerogod and another playtester noticed a random crash in Giovannis gym after a save
And some trainer sprites are bugged usually the first 1 on a floor or route
Aerogod knows about this n we did see a GET CRAIGED moment when someone wanted an early zapdos
Also in the nuzlocke community
5 attempts 2 died to surge 1 lost to brock and the other 2 wiped by misty

Pokémon Yellow was the first pokemon game and that I ever owned and was what got me into Pokemon alongside the anime, but never finished due to the save file being lost to time. So hearing that you and the people behind Crystal legacy are making something similar with Yellow made me happier than ever

3:36, this should be a feature in every Pokémon game. It's so convenient for players and makes sense since the Pokédex is suppose to record data for all Pokemon.
I am really excited to play this Rom because of the fact yellow was the first Pokémon game have played, I played in my PS2 using a Game Boy emulator my father bought. I still remember my team and was 3 starters, Nidoking, Pikachu and Jolteo ((Pikachu was more like a mascot that a party member)
I have played Pokemon Emerald so much and YOU announcing it a remake made me so happy!! Looking forward for it, best game in the franchise!!
Ive just started my playthrough and I have to admit I am blown away. I was a huge fan of gen 1 and played every gen up until black and white. I love the improvements and I have no notes. Its perfect, down to the minute details.
The learn set in the Pokédex is a game changing QOL upgrade.

The closest fangame that I know of to work like that is Pokémon MewYou (I think that's the name).
There is one in the making where you play as a Ditto, but it's not avoiding anyone, is a Ditto who wants to be strong an battle everyone. It copies the whole team of the trainers to use.

In case anyone was wondering. The original Mew glitch still works if you want to get Mew before the third gym.
I checked that when I got to Cerulean as well haha. I was going to use Mew for my run but it's DVs we're really bad so it went straight to my box.
In fact, you've made with your team (in a better way) what I tried years prior, loosing 50+ hours of work (after already 30 hours of work) deleting it by accident. It made me so sad at this point I abandoned my remained work but you finally realized my dream.

I just started my first ever playthrough as a Hardcore Nuzlocke and just got through Mt. Moon. I haven't played base Yellow in goodness how long. I'm not even a fan of gen 1, and I love it. I adore all the new quality of life updates, like seeing their moves and TMs in the Pokedex so much. Thank you to all who have worked on this rom hack. I'm about to try Crystal Legacy now out of curiosity and my excitement for Emerald Legacy is ever growing.
This is Insane!!! I'm on the 6th gym and I'm absolutely loving it, the moveset tweaks are incredible the sprite work, oh my lord the sprite work is AMAZING!!! its just pure eye candy. love the story touchups, can't wait to experience the post game content. every quality of life feature is just the cherry on top! everyone who helped make this
