    I worked at GameStop for 10 years. We always got in those Pokemon distribution carts. We were told to hang onto the old distribution carts for when our Pokemon rep came in to get them. He never did. We had like a dozen of them in the drawer for years. Now I wish I had snatched them up.

    Ha I went to a '10ANNIV' event when I was /very/ young, it was at a theme park in Europe. I could choose 3 pokemon from the list to transfer to my game because I had a subscription to some magazine. Regular visitors could only pick one. So to answer your question in the video, no we did not get all of them.
    We actually had to write down on a form/paper which ones we wanted and all our address details, as they would take our cartridge, take it to Nintendo who would put the pokemon on the games maybe in the same way as you are doing in the video and they would then ship it back to us. We did not get these Pokemon right away or on location. Because I was a child with shitty handwriting I actually had never gotten it back until I called the Nintendo helpdesk and they were able to locate my game at their office! The person on the phone told me they could not read my address 😂 They shipped me the game back after the call and it all ended well. I still have all these Pokemon and transferred them to Pokemon HOME.

    • @Hartie95
      @Hartie95 7 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, it's some weird mode, where it can receive data via link cable. It can for example be used to enter the wireless adapter menu with a game inserted, or to play the single card multi-player games with a card inserted.
      The event I went to with a distribution didn't let us do this through, instead they took our game for a moment, transfered the pokemon, then gave us the card back.

    • @KopperNeoman
      @KopperNeoman 2 месяца назад +2

      @@Hartie95 It's not that weird. Ignoring backwards compatibility, by default, the GBA sniffs the EXT line for multiboot code to run. If a cartridge is inserted, it boots off of that instead. Holding Start and Select overrides the cartridge boot and boots off of multiboot instead.
      This allows the multiboot to mount the cartridge, which aside from these events is used by games like Path of Radiance to read the GBA Fire Emblems to unlock art galleries.
      What actually IS weird is how the GCN Pokémon games sent multiboots to the GBA Pokémon games during the copyright splash screen - THAT'S unorthodox.

    What I'm interested in seeing is the errors or failsafes with not following the directions properly. These events were made knowing that people would be waiting lined up waiting to get a Pokemon and would want things moving as fastly as possible, so I assume that most people understood and followed the instructions to keep things moving. Like for example, if you have a full party, and/or didn't save in a Pokémon center. Since Gen 3 doesn't have any true game-breaking language-compatibility issues I'd be surprised if this was the case, but I also want to see what happens if you use the other language ROMs to try and distribute to the English one.

    • @Savescreen
      @Savescreen 9 месяцев назад +1

      I went to one of these events when I was young. We lined up and actually had to give the staff our games and fill in a form with our address details. They would put the pokemon on the games at a Nintendo office/location and they would then ship the game back. So we would be without it for a little while! This might not be the case for every event but I assume this was the safest way to do it back then for them, as they could take their time.

    I recall that Start+Select on the boot screen could be used to receive a save patch to early-run Ruby/Sapphire games to fix the berry glitch. I'd have to find where I put my copy of Fire Red but I think you could use it or Leaf Green to push the patch.

      You actually can. That's the funny part. The event dump rom can actually generate shinies. I have a shitload of event cart dump roms on my computer. They all can generate shinies.
      It's just FUCKING time consuming. You can stay there for hours bootlooping the GameBoy until you get one

    I have this cartridge. It actually came with a case with really cool box art. The case itself is a PAL version DS case which I found interesting. The event Pokémon were a real thing in 2006, but the cart is definitely not authentic.

    • @GhostSanctuary7
      @GhostSanctuary7 7 месяцев назад

      @piplupness Yeah I'm aware of flash carts. But as someone who doesn't emulate this was a better option for me. It was $10 as opposed to a $50+ flash cart I would never use.

  • @EternalxFrost
    @EternalxFrost 9 месяцев назад

    I've been able to get my hands on the dump roms of this event cart, and many more of those dump roms. I've setted up a pair of emulators, and all those mons are legit. You can also shiny hunt them through that distro event rom / cart, as there is a chance the actual dump generates a shiny.
    To be able to transfer them though, you have to boot up the recieving GameBoy on alternate boot mode (I can't remember exactly how as I did it long ago) but I think you have to hold Select while you boot the GameBoy up. If the timing is right between the boot up on the recieving end and the actual Pokémon sending command on the donor cartridge, the transfer will occur.
    Keep in mind it shoots it straight up in your party, so you have to clean your party in a box and only have one left. Otherwise it will tell you the transfer failed because it won't have a slot to dump it to, and will ask you to reboot, clean at least one slot in your party, and try again.
    My guess with your cartridge is that the actual PCB is real, but for some reason the original '' owner '' 3D printed a case and a new sticker, I guess because the original enclosure of the PCB got damaged. (And I said original '' owner '' because we all know event cartridges normally should be returned to Nintendo Japan after the event ends to be destroyed).

    Fake or not, it generates legit event Pokemon that youre allowed to trade. Yes, it devalues the actual Pokemon somewhat but it also allows people who vould not be present at the initial distribution (or weren't even born yet) to get one, or all of them. It's awesome 👍🏻
