The problem with videos covering all of this is that it also informs resellers of what to do in order to corner the market better.
Informed buyers will still have the upper hand as overpriced stuff won't be sold.
@@VslayerMK yeah… by the time a copy of a retro game being sold for a ridiculous amount gets bought by someone, the person selling the game could’ve gotten the amount of money they would get from selling the game. It’s so dumb
It’s crazy how market place has things for way cheaper than eBay, GameCube go for like 60$-100$ but slackers will sell it for 200$

Not in my area. Marketplace is and has been way more expensive.
I found Fire Emblem Path of Radiance at my local retro game store for $350. And the original Paper Mario 1000 Year Door is at $150. So… . 🤷🏾♂️ gotta check your local market again bruh
I wanted a SNES 20 years ago. Slackers was the only option at the time. $200. I still do not have a SNES.
You also need to be careful with marketplace as well
Resellers in my area are charging more than eBay! It's hilarious their posts never sell
Chat with them and tell them that they're lying to Themselves into thinking a piece of plastic with a PCB inside is worth more that gold
Same. It's wild

@@SMCwasTaken The economic incompetence of your comment is one of the most embarrassingly hilarious things that I’ve ever seen
If only all the best methods weren't locally based. Where I am, FB marketplace is nothing but scams and Google prices. Garage sales are very hit or miss too, but more miss really. I'm guessing most of the people in my area traded their old games in. Low income areas really suck.
I find in those areas you're best bet is to hang out near a pawn shop or Game store and offering to buy stuff people are bringing to sell or trade in
The fact that you are even suggesting that unironically perfectly exemplifies how bad it really is here. XD I just gave up on local listings, and focus on smaller online auctions.
i recommend setting your area as somewhere not too far but not entirely local. i live in a big city so i set my location to be a but aways but close enough for me to travel
@@tray84 That's what I did. Doesn't really make all that much difference if you're not near a big city. I've gotten the bulk of what I want for my collection from online auctions at this point anyway. The things left that I still want are more expensive items that I would have had to get online likely, regardless.

For real tho, what an absolute chad move. Thanks for sharing all these tips and tricks, and you did an amazing job on the camera and editing!

It also helps that the resellers here just lowball everytime. So if I actually offer market or a few euro’s below asking they likely accept. And the only person I shared this video with lives at the opposite side off Europe so we aren’t direct competition of eachother
I gotta say, your narration and camera presence has REALLY improved since the Pokemon prices video. Not only were all the tips and tricks invaluable, but your passion shines through. Hey Yello! Didn’t expect to see you here, guess we all want some good deals huh 😂
Been a fan since you were yelloyoshi, really enjoyed your Pokémon battery videos very in depth and helpful. Can’t wait for the next video, have a good one!
Oh hey! Thank you so much! Yeah I really enjoy Snivy's videos a lot, so you'll probably see me lurking here for his next video lol
@@YellosIsland Nice! I usually lurk around myself but I figured I'd say hello this time and to say thank you for making such entertaining videos, also yeah this was a really good video, I'll keep an eye on the channel myself haha
Nice video! The tips you provided were really helpful, and you even created an app. You really are underrated, can’t wait for the next video! :D
This is an excellent video !
I've always wanted to get into retro game collecting but the high prices and resellers scared me off. Thank you for sharing these tips !!
Thanks! These tips are going to be so useful.
I wish this was a thing when I was getting my hands on the ds pokemon games- still remember falling for a reproduction copy of heartgold on ebay even when looking at higher prices in an attempt to filter it out, and then examining things insanely closely the second time around to get a legitimate copy of soulsilver-
Now the only game I REALLY want to collect is just mariokart ds which I am fine paying like 20 dollars for whenever I have the money, so I am not too worried, so I won't really get too much value out of finding these deals though.
But tbh, I probably still will try to use this advice for if I want to get the games for a friend or something (or help them find a good deal), because I WOULD rather someone experience the game for the first time on official hardware than emulation or repros
I got an extra copy of Mario kart I wasn't expecting free with my DSi LL I got from eBay... which wasn't free but was a good price.
I had to rebuy it since my childhood DS broke and my family threw it away with the MKDS cart inside. So that's like, my 3rd copy of the game??
Ive been Facebook scouring for 2 years now, everything in this video is spot on. Well done
You really know what are you talking about
I respect you very much for showing to small collectors like us the good ways of finding stuff for cheap
THANK YOU the unique approach is so smart
I'm sure FB marketplace and yard sales/thrift stores work really well in some places but it literally only takes a few "entrepreneurs" to ruin the used game market for a whole city. Our town has a couple guys running around early and they buy up everything just to flip it online. Our big thrift store in town has a guy who rents out a quarter of the store and he spends all day buying up all the video games from the rest of the sellers so he can mark them up and turn a profit.
I paid £70 for pokemon white.
I also paid £75 for a giant stuffed red panda.

When is your app coming to the US and other regions?
@@ShimmeringVapidCoal I don't have any plans to work on a versions for other countries atm. Sorry
@@Snivy102 :/ Alright. I just wish there were easier options to find extensively rarer games... I appreciate the work you've done with this video though.
Dude the cabinet is awesome
Excellent video as always!
i love collecting so much, great video ^_^
Been trying to use this myself for the older Pokemon games to get duplicates for shiny hunting and... phew, there isn't ANYTHING in the state of Florida. Just either a bunch of scammers or people that require me to drive 2+ hours for $10 off eBay prices. Even other non-Pokemon games are all just a bunch of resellers. It's crazy that The Villages is the biggest retirement area in the entire United States and still, just a bunch of resellers and eBay prices. Guess I'm doomed to pay market value lmao
EDIT: I even checked the sold listings page out of curiosity and there was literally nothing. Kind of astounded how Florida has been demolished in regards to cheap older video games.
I have mixed feelings about this, while very appreciative for the solid advice, I am also scared of what effect this might have if the video becomes popular and resellers end up watching it. Most good deals are taken within a 2hour window after being posted on marketplace in my area. In order to get anything decent you have to constantly open the app and check by typing vague words to get the biggest search results. The competition part hit me in the feels I've lost count as to how many times resellers have offered 50$ to 150$ more on things that were affordable prior to them spiking the price. Good video on the topic for the sake of genuine gamers I hope it doesn't trend but if it does, it's well deserved keep up the good work 👍
Most committed resellers know all these tips already. I very rarely compete against actual video games collectors for deals in my area. Hopefully these tips reach more genuine video game collectors in order to even the playing field. I'd also hope video game collectors are less likely to get into a bidding war like myself (11:54)
I won’t lie I used to do a mix of both collecting and selling. The competition these days and the lengths people will go through to get something is beyond what it was a couple years ago. Absolutely wild
This video is phenomenal best sum up, thank you for this! 🙏
Great insights. Your app is super useful and not only for video games.
just wanna say, i got a CRT for $10 at a garage sale exactly a year ago. it was going to be $20, but they for some reason went down to $10 once i left to go get cash lol. absolute steal. it has a DVD player and a VHS player in it too
Brb im getting a Canadian citizenship, its probably less pricey than the savings ill get from ad alerts on games!!!
Also gate keeping this video for the life of me, i need good prices!!
As long as the video doesn't blow up, the deals should be safe with us 😉
@@Snivy102 as much as I want your content to succeed cuz you genuinely make great videos and the world needs to see them
This one can flop for the deals
There are some games I have my eyes on. Thank you again for the advice.
Finally you have returned ❤
Really good video helped me a lot.
I needed to go to bed 25 minutes and 15 seconds ago, but you're too darn entertaining. ez sub
I'm frankly surprised with how far out we are from covid, game prices still havent gone down. I have many of the grails I would like for my collection, but I would still like to grab a few niche odds and ends and not spend a fortune.
Flea markets is where I’ve gotten 30 percent of my gaming collection in the last half year. It really depends to which ones you go to. For example I decided to go to a swap meet (aka flea market) in Oakland and it was mostly new cheap junk but I managed to find a guy selling old stock from a closed video game store and got a Xbox 360 and 4 games. But my favorite flea market is the one in Watsonville, one in two stands have a video game at a very low cost and it is my favorite.
Love your whistle of Looker's Sorrow Theme
Very good advice! Thank you!
When I was younger, it was super easy to find random old games for really cheap. Lately I've been trying to collect certain ones, and have made almost no progress. Really frustrating. And I don't often have much time to comb through online listings. Now, I'm in the USA, and I have noticed that Canadian sellers on eBay tend to have slightly lower prices.
Literally right after watching this video I pulled up craigslist and found a listing under "old video games" with a bundle of PS1 PS2 and PS3 games. Among the PS1 games was MegaMan two legends and breath of fire IV (both of which are roughly $100 each) but 16 total games for $100- thank you for the motivation !
I sold my old gameboy games back when I was struggling financially - I got nostalgic about 6 months ago and looked for replacements for what I sold. Ruby, Sapphire, Firered, Leafgreen and Emerald - from what I could find locally, were just fucking insane. A minimum of 120 euros EACH, some of which with dry batteries that needed replacement - I saw some RSE cartridges that were cracked and/or with torn labels for 90 euros, I just couldn't justify paying that.
I decided to grab some reproduction carts and boxes on the internet (boxes on Etsy, carts on AliExpress) and they serve the purpose that I wanted. I don't care for authenticity, but I know that I can look at the repro boxes, know there's a playable game inside, and remember the memories I had playing those games despite them not being authentic.
I wish I had my options, but I'm from a small island country of around 500k, so the local options are my only options unless I'm also adding 25 euros on top for delivery, or up to 50 depending on where they are coming from.
Flea markets are amazing! It's like a decent chance I get out of there with a great deal. I got 7 Saturn games all for 5 Eur there and GoW Collection also for 5 Eur.
Gary Oak without a car. And having other people go out of their way to bring him games his grandad would be proud
Two things:
1: thank you so much for the guide, I’ve been buying everything from eBay when starting my collection, and it’s not really as fun when it’s a bag in the mail compared to from a store or from marketplace, not even mentioning the prices.
2: 9:27 as the leader of the tepig fandom this is ruthless slander and we have made peace with snivy long ago
Pirates bay: A yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
sorry to ask but a while ago I tried buying used ultra moon and sun (like both multiple times across 3 days from a used game store) and whenever I got to the z move tutorial the game would just freeze and shut off, is that just a problem the servers have? Or did I just get unlucky and got corrupted save files like 5 times in a row and should try again until I get a working copy? (Again sorry but Reddit and stuff says nothing about it so I’m assuming someone like you is my best option to figure it out; I wanna relive my childhood with a physical copy again)
This was very helpful I work from home and I have all the time in the world to refresh FB marketplace and I there was some tips in here I really thought could be helpful, I do re-sell on ebay not FB it is allot of work but since its just a side gig I can reinvest everything I make and already in 1 month starting with $500 i now have over 7k in inventory I subed and will keep watching
AS SOON AS YOU SAY TURN ON THE SOLD, MY HEART CLENCHED AS I SAW A COPY OF PLATINUM THAT WENT FOR 800 php. (for context, platinum can go around 3,500 php in my country.)
I got a local indoor outdoor flea market near me. Me and my buddies go and have breakfast and walk around Good time by all. Mostly resellers, but I did find one guy who was selling some video games, and he left a gameboy player disc in a fifa 06 case. To date, my best score. Driving early to various garage sales is not fun and burns gas.
I may buy a Wii, the one that has gamecube support.
but It'll take ages tbh to find a good deal on the wii.
Great to see you back and I'll make sure to never share this video so I can always win 😈
Been doing this for a while, super big deals at times😁
Seriously… I Can never find deals at all where I am. And I’m in a metro area :/
The one trick I know is if you see a listing the pictures not that great but lets say it has a ps2 with all three resident evil games ya thats a good buy as is at $100 but if it shows a binder next to it and it doesnt say what video games are in it go for it anyways, because if it has all 3 resident evils on ps1 just sitting there pretty good odds it will there is a good game or two in that binder this was a actual pickup I did yesterday and yes in that binder it has ps2 silent hill origins my $100 deal turned into a $300 find
I found my copy of Pokémon colosseum bonus disc for 3 dollars at a Deseret Industries.... Which is an anomaly. They're supposed to check those kinds of things lol
I wonder how much the "Ass Wiper 1000 Mega Collection" goes for on the open market.
I laugh every time I read that message. I should reply to that guy, thanking him for his wise words
Actually I should just link him this video lol
@@Snivy102 You should!
He must've been talking about Kirby Superstar
Last year I actually managed to pick up a target gba with pokemon sapphire for $50 it was a great deal
I'm still looking for Fire Red, Leaf Green, Red, Crystal, Black 2, White 2, and Emerald, and Nintendo GameCube Gameboy Player (disk)...😰
The "retro video game store" franchise in my area has batshit demented prices but the antique mall that has its own video game section is much more reasonable.
I got a great gameboy sp plus 10 games for only $80! This man isn't wrong.
nice vidoe snivy guy
absolute legend
pretty useful video
pokemon emerald in the tag goes hard
As the buyer I can just wait. I hope those sellers are happy I see the price has crashed on a bunch of those games that they are stuck sitting on now. I never understood the mindset of holding on to stuff. Are they like hoarders. Just tells me they don't want to sell it at all even if it means they are stuck with it for years.
I want to know what area your in, i have people selling things for sometimes up to triple what my retro game store sells them for and its wild
What is the shelf you use to store your games from the beginning of the video and would you recommend it to anyone for actually storing games like that?
Just some old media shelf. The original color is brown so that's what you should look for if you're looking for the same one. I got it off Facebook Marketplace used. It's pretty convenient because it protects all your games against dust when it's closed
@@Snivy102 It's really cool, I love the way it opens. I'll have to take a look around, Thanks!
I got my copy of Emerald for $65 off of eBay. It was listed as not working, but when it arrived in the mail, it did lol.
The game froze after I turned it off and tried booting it back up a little later, though, and I opened it up. Board looked fine, and it turns out it was just one of the solder joints on the ROM chip that had an iffy connection. I tapped it with my iron, and it works like new again!
Those are great tips
in 2018 I bought all the gen 3 games Firered, Leafgreen, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald with the boxes for my dirtbike which at the time was about $300 ish if that consider my dirtbike at the time was scratched up and barely functioning he wants it for the parts... All the games are authentic and are working I even bought a new custom gameboy to play them and relive my childhood. The prices sure have skyrocketted...
AM I lucky or did I scam that dude?
I spent the last few years learning how to write code and started making my own distribution carts for the events to make it that much more of a legit playthrough. Considering you can't do the events anymore...
The fact that he still hearts people on this video after 8 months is incredible
This is my most recent video 😅
I usually try number 3 games from the buyer see if they make a deal even rebuyers will in UK so I don't see any games from USA, Canada or China they would not work on any my Pal consoles
My dad has a collection of definitely obtained legally on his Mac. I just emulate those
I need a UK version of the app.
For video games and Lego Minifigures.
The part where he showed the sold section and especially the heartgold for $5 it caused extreme mental pain
Not sure how the app has developed since this video but I thought it’d be worth mentioning that I would pay money for a US version.

I'll let you know how she goes on your next video. That's enough spamming from me today.😏
One of the problems I have with buying games from cons is there's no guarantee the games will actually work. I've had a few and seen people buy games from cons for 100+ and the some of the games didn't even work. If you're gonna buy handheld games, you need to test them while you're at the booth
if you ever make a us version of the app i would love to get it.
when i was fourteen i cleared alot a lotta old stuff, among that old stuff was pokemon black 2 i didn’t research market value and assumed it wouldnt b worth anything anymore😐 i sold it for £5
Missed 2x ds lites, a 2ds handfull of ds games for $60 Australian the other day 😢 (like 40 USD)
By the way, if you're the buyer on eBay, never offer something that ends in 99 cents. The same psychology of pricing things at like $8.99 instead of $9.00 to make it seem cheaper works in reverse if you're the buyer.
Does your app work in the US?
Something annoying with doing this is that if you're looking for pokemon games specifically there are SO many card sellers and no way to filter them out
filter by Videogames and not Trading Cards on marketplace
I still find stuff at thrift stores, but not as often and I don't go as often as I used to. I'm surprised I still find anything though tbh. I don't really think it's fair to blame resellers since they wouldn't be able to make money if there wasn't already a super high demand for this stuff.
In the opening when you show your collection, I noticed one of your gamecube games, around the middle of the shelf, seems to have a white label instead of the black or yellow. What's that?
It's just a sun faded yellow label
@@Snivy102 Ah, cool. Thanks!
Got to feel bad man when you want the thing and someone beat you to it when there thing you want is still open and someone got a better deal than you and went out there for no reason
you gotta go to places that don't do their research lol general thrift stores and mom n' pop stores just slap alotta retro stuff for jaw-droppingly low prices. If you go to any gamestore, flea market or any place where the ppl who run the store know what they're selling, you're outta luck.
This is a great video and puts large emphasis on what I said off-rip. Its kinda predatory lol but you gotta prey on a reseller's lack of knowledge.
I think the thing with garage sales is patience
Thanks, I'll just emulate. Good video though.
Gotta say, I did get a game on eBay for 60 (it’s eBay value was 80) And after seeing this I feel like a literal idiot. But the problem i have is I don’t have a license, and my mom thinks I’ll get kidnapped or killed if I use Facebook marketplace, so I’m not sure how to utilize this information. I can’t find for example a copy of doubledash for less then 75 dollars, what’s my best option at this point in an attempt to save money?
When I was young I never got deals on video games or even thought about it. I just used my birthday/christmas money to go out and buy games I want. Mind you, when I was young retro games were all pretty cheap no matter where you looked.
If it's difficult for you to communicate with strangers (or you're not allowed to), then I'd recommend asking people you do know. I didn't mention this in the video, but oftentimes friends/family or people that your friends/family know could be willing to give you games for a good deal (they typically aren't as concerned about getting the most amount of money for their games if they know it's going to someone they're acquainted with). When I was in middle school, my sister's teacher gave me his original GameBoy games for free because I guess my sister somehow brought up the fact that I was into older video games.
@@Snivy102 most people my age I have connections with do not have GameCube accessories or games because they didn’t grow up with them. Additionally, as if it couldn’t be hard enough, I don’t have sisters or brothers. My situation seems pretty impossible to overcome, but I have had my dad ask a friend of his if he has any inventory. He never responded to that email though, so now I’m kind of back at step 1.
do you have an iphone version of the app or is it just on android couldn't find it
Just Android in Canada atm. Sorry
I'd trade my collection of all the pokemon games ever released for an old buick or some good looking US car.
Siblings sold my collection of game boy Xbox GameCube etc games about 50-60games total for about $100 ten years ago the same games would’ve been worth 10k today
The best way to play old gba games, is by emulating on a nintendo switch. spend the money on the hardware, then just pirate whatever you want. No need to spend $100+ on a single game, when it's a free download.
most games arent on the switch and you have to pay for the online services
This man giving away golden wisdom for free
Please please make a us version of that app
