Noticing a lack of Wally. Honestly I think his final ORAS rematch team has a shot of ranking VERY high, being probably the only competitively built team with a Mega on it in these games. Even if Megas are banned, the rest of his team are really pulling their weight too.
@@jg78538 True, but that doesn't cover characters like Hop, Hau, and Kukui. The latter two are the final bosses of the main story, but canonically they are just the first challengers against you, the newly crowned Champion. And then of course, what is Volo doing here? There was no League at all in that game.

Personally, Kieran's team was the only team I actually did well against. The "Elite Four" all brought me down to one Mon left, meanwhile I swept Kieran without even taking damage...
Keirian's team is at best trash and would do significantly worse then it did here in equal skill piloted matches. 2 of the Elite 4 are actually ok weather teams lacking proper setup. Conversely i threw a properly trained Technician/Dice Cincino at Kirian which KO'd 5 of his 6 pokemon nto even leaving time for Tinkaton to start dropping +6 Gigaton Hammers
the same for me. well.. amarys was also a wash, but kieran didnt do anything sadly. pretty sure i only saw him do one move, the dragonite using hurricane, and i thought "oh damn rain into stab sudo legendary hurricane", but he really dissappointed@@qqqqquesadilla
I think Kieran was relatively easy to most because he was not a specialist. You need to account to alot of extra factors and Pokemon when you do not have clear strengths and weaknesses. Hence why some of the other BB league memberes absolutely washed certain players since alot of them just bring a counter to your counter if you overcommit on it, while washing any Pokemon weak to theirs.
@@gerardoalexandergarciamend7053 grammatically incorrect. the use of "they" in that sentence is used in a neutral sense. 'they' would fit just as well as 'he' would.
Raihan is super unfocused as a team for his singles team, which is probably why he ended up struggling as much as he did. He's very focused on weather setting, which would be fine if most of his team didn't have different weathers they relied on.
He's also a double battle gym leader, so taking that weather focus and trying to apply it in singles without modifications unsurprisingly makes his performance lacking.
@@MsVilecat That's not the problem though. His Doubles team would unironically have performed better, simply because it is focused around a SINGLE weather type. His Singles team DID change it up, and that's why it got worse. It changed from focusing on one single weather condition, to every member of his team using a different type of weather.
I think the same to but considering there was a one battle difference in there win loss ratio and Cynthia outperformed him against Leon I think it’s safe to say she’s essentially tied with him probably. Honestly same with the entirety of ranks 5-3 they probably all are like only a couple battle off from each other score wise.
Worth noting: Alder beat Cynthia 51/49. That's shockingly close to being a draw. Meanwhile, Leon beat Alder by a decent margin and Cynthia beat Leon by over 20 wins. (Probably because Leon has no answer to Milotic)
Cynthia: Everyone simps over me how did I only get 5th? Leon: my team is balanced with lots of good coverage with no items. Turo: I literally have a team of legendary stat pokemon FROM THE FUTURE! Sada: I got Fluttermane. Everyone: Oh….. ok…
Cynthea's best team also cant be played properly by AI like Leon's can, and wasnt designed by at the time competitive players like Alder's team was. Turo and Sada just straight up brutalize everyone else with stats and competitive monsters. Sada's team just has better natural balance though with the gimmick restrictions the professors had.
@@F14thunderhawk I mean it's quite telling that Leon actually still lost to Cynthia despite of her team getting nerfed like crazy if you equalize lvls in addition to random AIs not being able to follow it's actual strategy properly, Leon having an on paper good team was always the only thing that didn't suck about him after all.
@@gunchar06 'only thing that didnt suck about him' one of the only champions that does something during the story lol...nonsense hate because he's from sword and shield

So, if we take out the very unfair Computer Teams of Ai Sada and Ai Tuto then the Human top 5 is 1. Leon 2. Alder 3. Cynthia 4. Nemona 5. Amarys Which I think is a fair showing that Leon is always as good as he says he is, Alder being underrated AF, and Cynthia still being one of the best of the best no matter the Pokémon generation.

@@joshuafrazier3904 I also think it's worth mentioning that the existence of fairies has really thrown a wrench at Cynthia. Before then, her Spiritomb had zero weaknesses.
Funny how Leon being the 1st ranked Champion on this list matched his ranking in the anime prior to the Masters Eight. Alder over Cynthia was definitely an upset. Wish we saw more of his battle prowess in the anime.
alder is retired champion so it kinda makes sense for his peak to be better than cynthia cause of quiver dance but that said since he retired he dint participate in the masters 8 in the anime hence we got iris instead.
@@TheReaperofHades yeah even in games he's already almost retired like man got wiped by N since his old team were I think dead already and loosing to N he wanted to retired but I guess he kept his title for 2 more years till iris beats him which was the time frame between BW and BW2
With Wattson I imagine his performance is due to the following: 1) The only weakness to Electric is Ground 2) Steel type Magnezone has good resistances, and takes advantage of that with a stall setup 3) Rotom Wash has very good coverage and can use Hydro Pump to dispell any ground threats while itself being immune to ground types 4) Rotom, Ampharos, and Raichu all have insanely good coverage, and all of his other Pokemon besides Magnezone have some sort of coverage move that can help against types electric often struggles with, or type combos more specifically. 5) Up to 3 Pokemon with static means he's very often going to have speed advantage regardless of what he's fighting. And Raichu can cause parafusion
5:37 For whatever reason, Koga actually does NOT appear in the PWT, being replaced by Janine. Maybe it's because by this point, Koga is actually an E4 member, and no longer a gym leader? But I mean, Giovanni is there, despite being replaced by Blue at that point, so who knows.
Probably since I think Wallace only appears in the Champion tournament and not the gym leader tournament. Blue makes it weird though since he appears in the Champion tournament despite being beaten and officially becoming Viridian City gym leader
I'm just glad that despite all the bullshit power creep Red and Blue still got to the top 25, using normal gen 1 Pokemon and in Red's case a freaking Pikachu.
As you were going up the list I kept thinking "damn, Emmet and Ingo are that strong?!" until I got through 27 minutes and realized they were never going to be mentioned
Love that Falkner showed up for the World Tournament, took off his gloves, and made sure everyone could see _why_ he was pulling his punches. Didn't expect that high a ranking from the first Johto Gym Leader, but I'll take it. My respect for him is higher now.
I love videos like this in theory, but was disappointed to see that there was not more details about methodology and no replays showing off interesting moments
yeah i felt the same… throwing all these results at us but like, by what metric? how did the battles go? what AI was used? etc etc. it’s cool but without context this stuff is ultimately meaningless. glad to see i wasn’t the only one who felt as such.
I think most of the hatred is honestly not his fault as a concept, because there’s so much you can do with him in that sense, but by god. The timing and the train wreck of game design that was SWSH, if I was less obsessed with character concepts and story, I’d dislike him too. First of all, his partner is Charizard. Immediately that’d make a lot of people groan, bc Charizard’s oversaturation and special attention from the company is mind boggling. And then… they revealed the dex cut. ONLY Charizard got to stay, and people were pissed. That aside they also shot themselves repeatedly in the foot with the game design, and how they basically use Leon as an excuse to prevent you from doing ANYTHING exciting. Logically? It makes sense he’d go and do crisis stuff, and that’s part of why he’s fascinating as a concept (starting as a ten year old, unbeatable champion, he’s basically a player character grown up) BUT FROM A GAME DESIGN STANDPOINT IT’S AWFUL. They don’t commit hard enough to his character to make up for it, either, so you’re in this awkward middle no one liked. It’s so incredibly funny he raw dogged this tournament tho I still don’t fully believe it 😂 “No items?” They asked and he really said “nah I’d win”. I think it’s pretty indicative of how bad power creep’s gotten that the paradox mons are uncontested winners though… There’s also the small detail that he looks like a ten year old allowed to dress himself (mans hasn’t been allowed to change his aesthetic for like over a decade 💀) and he’s got a mullet, there’s some people who have a primal anger reaction to that alone 😂
I mean... makes perfect sense to me that a Fairy specialist would claim plenty of wins over a much higher ranked dragon specialist, and a grass over a water. Type advantages in the games are harder to duck compared to the show, so that just makes sense. No need for incredulity.
Bro coasted on Cynthia's reputation and stole her music to scare gen 4 veterans. He came at us with an 8-mon team, including two rounds with Giratina itself, and still isn't as scary as her.
Volo being held back by modern battle mechanics (and not having two Giratinas), and *still* ranking _tenth_ goes to show how impressive he is. Without his shock/scare factor, without revenge kills, without *Giratina,* he's still standing at the summit.
It's nice that he was mentioned, but i'm disappointed that he got his worse team. Normally one would expect the rematch team to be stronger, but in his case it's the other way around as you literally steal his full team of *7*. Sure, don't count shadow lugia, fine. But his three birds, which will hit you with always very effective moves (as basically no one else uses shadow pokemon), which can status you, plus some support from his other 3 shadow pokemon... I really think his standing could have been higher with that team, even if they are in the story at a slightly lower level (as they are level locked through being shadow pokemon)
@@primedialgaI think the Shadow teams exclusion is due to their regular moves, if you exclude the obviously broken 'Shadow Type', their purified moveset aren't exactly to right home about.
@@Magma-Idiot-2001 The reason they're excluded (and the way I know this is because I've tried running these simulations before) is because Shadow Pokemon are treated as wild Pokemon for the player to snag, meaning they're fully randomized (including what Ability they have). Even aside from the limitation of not being able to simulate Shadow-type moves, there's no real way to put them into the game faithfully.
Predicting this at the point of Opal in the video: #1 trainer has to be Champion Iris from B2W2. Dragon biased, so Opal has an advantage, but as well as having diversity covering her weaknesses (like Lapras to hit enemy dragons and an Aggron to take on Ice types), her mons are colossal balls of stats.
This is so clearly bias , I haven't watched the video and I'm quiet sure iris won't do good. She's one of the easier champs and is a mono champ at that
@@andrewdevlin8756 obviously I said that with a grain of salt, half of her team is dragon type and the other half is weak to steel I believe. She very much has way more type overlap than probably any other champion or is very close. Her team also sucks pokemon wise.

The moment some of the Gamecube folks were mentioned I thought he'd be at or near the top, maybe behind the AI profs. Losing to Opal and Cilan even makes sense because his best team does have some overlapping Fairy and Grass weaknesses.
@@kelly_times tbh he used greevil’s pretty bad rematch team instead of his legendary filled first fight. Evice is a lot better but has more doubles centric moves which makes it harder for him. They did a lot better than I expected tbh.
The Chateau just has it's own rules man. There's no proper Kalos postgame teams. If the gen 6 leaders got world tournament style teams, they'd be much higher
Given that everyone was being normalised to level 50 anyway, it would probably have been fairer on the Kalos Elite 4 to give them their four-mon Elite 4 teams over their three-mon Battle Chateau teams, even if the former teams have lower levels. I mean it wouldn't have helped them out *that* much, but it would be something.
@@charnalk5572 I honestly think he became champ just for fun. His passion is traveling around to get rare stones, he never gushes about training or the beauty of battle like other champs.

Doesn't strike me like he doesn't care about Pokemon battle, but looks like he just doesn't like being a champion (he does consider giving up the position to Wallace in ORAS to have more freedom).
I know you said Diantha place was bad but considering the rest of Kalos’ Trainers placements and that fact Diantha doesn’t actually have a rematch team that isn’t just 3 Pokémon. I’m legitimately surprised that she did as well as she did.
So excluding the 2 broken power crept legends from scarlet and violet, the 2 best trainers in the game are the ones considered best in game lore and anime lore. Undefeated champion Leon still almost undefeated
cythea wipes her ass with Leon, its just her team isnt designed for strict rotation play like Alder's and it never was which makes it significantly worse here.
It’s really funny how this goes to show that even the best trainers can randomly struggle against the likes of bugsy. As someone who beat Leon and Cynthia on my second try, and Gardenia on my tenth, I feel that in my soul.
Oh, the Fairy specialists hit above their power level against Dragon leaders from games that didn't have Fairy as a type and therefore don't carry coverage for it? What a shocking upset! :P

@@TheRealLilyOfTheValley Nah, I was saying that Geeta's post game team was technically never part of the base game. It's not really post game content, it's DLC content, meaning that it was probably never considered before the fanbase's feedback.
Ironically using the rematch teams for the XY gym leaders makes their teams even WEAKER than the actual gym battle teams, because the battle Chateau facility in XY (where the rematches take place) was designed to be really easy to fight multiple trainers back to back for grinding. I think the only trainer that has more than 2-3 pokemon is Diantha
@@ChampionAzuretf would resisted Electro Drift do to not one but two Giratina? Sure its Ele Terrain & Hadron Engine boosted but a resisted hit is still halved
Not sure how many people commented this, but the reason x and y trainers did so bad is because they are heavily balanced around mega evolutions, considering this has gen 9 trainers this tournament is not running mega evolutions. Which massively explains the discrepancy.
The Battle Chateau seems poorly designed. It seems or is supposed to be a place to grind for EXP or money. Because of that, why could the Gym Leaders be in the Battle Mason (I think that's what it's called)?
Evice getting pretty high despite not having his doubles combos available and being locked to stuff from gen 3 and earlier. Testament to how nasty he was as a final boss
So excluding Battle Frontier Trainers for Sinnoh we get these rankings: Sinnoh Cynthia Lucian Aaron Flint Bertha Volkner Crasher Wake Maylene Candice Gardenia Fantina Roark Byron Which puts the Champion above all trainers, the Elite Four above the Gym Leaders and the Eight Gym Leader at the top. Which is some pretty awesome consistency!
I think the reason why Blaine did so well is, as you pointed out, the coverage. In a tournament filled with trainers specializing in certain types, and with him being a fire type specialist himself, he’s at the mercy of the type chart unless he tries to make use of other types. Which he does. Teams weak to fire will fall regardless, all that coverage does is allow him to pull some wins against unfavorable types, giving him more consistency.
The top 3 (without legendary/Paradox) being Leon, Alder and Cynthia was amazing! Leon because is in character with his lore of being World Champion (like in the anime), Alder because he always being underrated (also the fact of Volcarona being my favorite mon) and Cynthia because of course, it's Cynthia. Excellent video!
You included the Frontier Brains but not the Subway Bosses? Ingo and Emmet are my favorite trainers and I would love to know how they stack up. Especially seeing how Emmets team works in singles.
Also didn't include most of the rivals, as only Champion & Gym Leader rivals were included for some reason Also no evil team leaders aside from Giovanni (and Penny if that counts) Very odd exclusions for sure
Looks like it was strictly Gym Leaders, E4, and Champions, along with a few scattered extras based on whims. Basically anyone not covered by "Gym Leaders, E4 and Champions" got included by pure luck.
The fact evice from colosseum a format specifically designed as double battles came up into rank 45 in singles just goes to show how absurd his power really is, and that's with replacing the tyranitar with agron
Let's be honest here, Sada (along-side a few other things) ended up showing a prime example of why Flutter Mane was a mistake of biblical proportions to ever allow to come into existence. And is also the only reason Turo. The only hope, is that Generation 10 doesn't increase the power creep exponentially more for the sake of getting people to use just the new mons.
Realistically, if you were to do this, wouldn't you always choose the team with more pokemon, since the levels are evened out for every trainer. Like for example, some of the trainers you chose from X an Y have teams with more Pokémon in them, than the teams you used.
Shoutout to Giovanni with the highlest placed 5 pkmn team at rank 50 and completely glossed over, but I feel even more impressive at number 35 Tucker with only a 3 pkmn team
If you say that the rematch Geeta's team should've been in the main game as her Champion team, despite her not being the final trainer in the main story, makes little sense in a game design perspective. Fine for something like a Kaizo or any other BS designed game for veterans, but not for a general audience.
And that's not mentioning big changes such as pokemon getting stat buffs / nerfs, moves being reworked, types being buffed / nerfed, and while I don't think it was relevant for anyone- the physical special split. Nor even the fact that some types are simply going to have broader, better match ups in a mostly monotype context.
I don’t agree with the description of some of these "upsets" maybe they did win against a higher ranked team, but typings matter a lot. Fairy winning against a mostly/all dragon teams is not an upset.
@@simonepriolo sorry I’m not on RUclips 24/7 like you but there’s plenty of amazing things this game has going for it and really the only bad things are more nitpicks and not actual things wrong with the game or it’s gameplay
60th place having 3 mons is... Nice going! On the topic of multiple electric leaders doing well, I think it's a mix of reasons: - The type only having 1 major weakness in ground, which most electric leaders bring one or more immunities for with flying types or Levitate. The better teams also have water/ice/grass coverage. - Electric types being fast in general, allowing for aggressive playstyles. The trainer AI in the games tends to be more suited to offensive playstyles, as they usually don't like switching and don't have defensive pivots due to being monotype. - ???

why not add all the villain bosses? Leaving everyone out from Colress, Rose, Maxie/Archie, Guzma, Lysandre, Cyrus, etc. feels like too much data is missing regarding who is the best and where everyone really stands.
Leon was the best champion with a level 60 team with no items, is proof of how cracked his team actually is. Lack of team restriction is what makes his fight much easier than Cynthia or Iris.
Kind of Crazy. If he had items, he would massively gap the other champions. Unironically, just like how much stronger he is than the other champions canonically.

I think the #1 biggest surprise is that Alder ranked higher than Cynthia. Never really had an issue with Alder, always had problems with Cynthia
This is Pokemon World Tournament Alder, look at those optimal items, I assume you're thinking of postgame league alder?
I think the same to but considering there was a one battle difference in there win loss ratio and Cynthia outperformed him against Leon I think it’s safe to say she’s essentially tied with him probably. Honestly same with the entirety of ranks 5-3 they probably all are like only a couple battle off from each other score wise.
PWT Alder is nasty
He had a conk, darm and volc. These 3 are deffo going to 1 shot a lot of pokemon and have the bulk to eat hits. If volc sets up it sweeps
Alder: M0th

@@ArceTheTroll How on earth is him off-screen doing what actually the players should do so that they don't need to put any effort in a good thing(even Lance was already better than that), Leon sucks cause he is pretty much written like a random Mary Sue OC in low lvl fanfiction and cause he is just the embodiement of lazy game design.
So, if we take out the very unfair Computer Teams of Ai Sada and Ai Tuto then the Human top 5 is
1. Leon
2. Alder
3. Cynthia
4. Nemona
5. Amarys
Which I think is a fair showing that Leon is always as good as he says he is, Alder being underrated AF, and Cynthia still being one of the best of the best no matter the Pokémon generation.
I wonder which Leon team would perform the best shame he only ran the rillaboom team. I feel like which starter he had could've altered the rankings like how hop with zacian did 15 places better than hop with zamezenta

The entire team is cracked
With Wattson I imagine his performance is due to the following:
1) The only weakness to Electric is Ground
2) Steel type Magnezone has good resistances, and takes advantage of that with a stall setup
3) Rotom Wash has very good coverage and can use Hydro Pump to dispell any ground threats while itself being immune to ground types
4) Rotom, Ampharos, and Raichu all have insanely good coverage, and all of his other Pokemon besides Magnezone have some sort of coverage move that can help against types electric often struggles with, or type combos more specifically.
5) Up to 3 Pokemon with static means he's very often going to have speed advantage regardless of what he's fighting. And Raichu can cause parafusion
To bad we can't use romhack Inclement Emerald's Watson. That team is ridiculously cracked with the Sticky Web Galvantula lead.

@@JseanPrimewhere is the battle data stored?
Leon slander has gotta stop. He proved himself the greatest champion by far while not using held items.
I think it’s pretty indicative of how bad power creep’s gotten that the paradox mons are uncontested winners though…
There’s also the small detail that he looks like a ten year old allowed to dress himself (mans hasn’t been allowed to change his aesthetic for like over a decade 💀) and he’s got a mullet, there’s some people who have a primal anger reaction to that alone 😂
I mean... makes perfect sense to me that a Fairy specialist would claim plenty of wins over a much higher ranked dragon specialist, and a grass over a water. Type advantages in the games are harder to duck compared to the show, so that just makes sense. No need for incredulity.
The sad part about some of the Alolan trainers (Kiawe and Mallow) is that they aren't allowed to use the Pokémon they have in the Battle Tree.
The fact Blue did better than Red just makes me smile a bit. Such an underdog.
Oh do not get away by calling my volvo

My volvo doesn't deserve such hate
It’s not Volo’s fault that Milotic isn’t in Hisui
Volo earned those Giratina
Bro coasted on Cynthia's reputation and stole her music to scare gen 4 veterans. He came at us with an 8-mon team, including two rounds with Giratina itself, and still isn't as scary as her.
I knew fluttermane would be the strongest trainer. Truly the best trainer of all time.
Volo being held back by modern battle mechanics (and not having two Giratinas), and *still* ranking _tenth_ goes to show how impressive he is. Without his shock/scare factor, without revenge kills, without *Giratina,* he's still standing at the summit.
Bro stole most of Cynthia's team, the only reason he didn't copy the whole thing is because Milotic isn't in Hisui. No wonder he did well.
@@BlaziethBro invented most of Cynthia's team. Only reason she didn't copy the whole thing is because Arcanine isn't in Sinnoh.

Bertha
Volkner
Crasher Wake

Which puts the Champion above all trainers, the Elite Four above the Gym Leaders and the Eight Gym Leader at the top.

Matching all the levels also makes some "upsets" unsurprising when it comes down to type matchup.

If you say that the rematch Geeta's team should've been in the main game as her Champion team, despite her not being the final trainer in the main story, makes little sense in a game design perspective.
Fine for something like a Kaizo or any other BS designed game for veterans, but not for a general audience.
did this simulation include all the different generation-specific mechanics? some of these teams the Mega, G-max, and Tera mechanics are very relevant
And that's not mentioning big changes such as pokemon getting stat buffs / nerfs, moves being reworked, types being buffed / nerfed, and while I don't think it was relevant for anyone- the physical special split. - The type only having 1 major weakness in ground, which most electric leaders bring one or more immunities for with flying types or Levitate. The better teams also have water/ice/grass coverage.
- Electric types being fast in general, allowing for aggressive playstyles. The trainer AI in the games tends to be more suited to offensive playstyles, as they usually don't like switching and don't have defensive pivots due to being monotype.

@@Tina-oq1hy Leon canonically isn't stronger than any other named Regional Champion in the actual games lore(all that Monarch nonsense is just an anime only invention while he didn't even participate in the World Tourney of the games, and even in the anime he is tied with Cynthia in stats and somehow lost to a just technically Champion like Ash), and with an actually competitive AI(/competitive players) let alone without unequalized lvls he wouldn't even make it into the Top 10 for Champion versions alone to be frank.
@@gunchar06 In the games, there isn't anything to go off of to compare the champions directly. However, in Sword and Shield Gamefreak tells us Raihan could easily be a champion in another region. So at the very least, Leon is probably at the upper tier. In the anime, there isn't any question, Leon is easily the strongest champion (outside of Ash) both by anime canon statements and feats. It took Ash all his gimmicks and Pikachu friendship to beat Leon, meanwhile he beat Cynthia with only Mega Evolution.
That placement of Larry and Blaine just makes me want to see them team up in a buddy cop-style hijinks adventure together
More evidence to support Leon being the unbeatable Champion that he is. Bravo. 😊
Amarys is the one trainer i didn't think would be in the top 10
