"Is this like a Diamond and Pearl thing that they fixed in Platinum?" Actually yes! DP is notorious for having just pure random AI for all its trainers, but in Platinum they went back to the trainers actually considering anything before choosing their moves.

Honestly I kinda guessed it was like that in every game. I notice it in diamond/pearl, black/white, and X. So do they only make the AI smart in the second generation batch of games?

The duality of fighting special moves
For real, I was thinking the same thing about the dark elite 4 member in my rematch in pokemon white. Then 1 1/2 hours later going "duh 🥴 he wasn't getting bull shit accuracy luck. Feint attack can't miss... So my double team cheap win would have never worked..."

Nah he called it “Prinpulp” and “Prinpull” around the 2 and 4 and a half minute mark

Here's a challenge idea for you: Play Platinum (or whatever) without using the letter E. No moves with E, no pokemon with E, no held items with E.
Interesting idea. That would be cool to see
I looked into it a bit, and a hig hurdle is the starters. Of the ones that don't have an E, all of them up to gen 3 start with tackle, which can't work. Torchic knows scratch so RSE is the first gen it can be done.

One of the rare runs where a humble Zubat poses more of a threat then entire Gyms.
Probably not That rare after leech life got its power buff in later gens (I guess rare for mdb challenge runs though. Since he doesn't do gen 6 or further)

I'm still going to write down my BW2 hidden grotto only pokemon!
- you can only use hidden grotto encounters
- you can use the randomizer to make the starters to: sap sipper marill, rattled dunsparce and scrappy lillipup
- the starters have hidden abilities and they are from the ranch's grotto which is the "closest" one
- you can have a full team and extra pokemon in the box if you come across more pokemon etc.
Great idea! It should result in some new strategies with the unique natures
Im not sure the randomizer is able to give starting Pokémon hidden abilities.

I would love to see you someday take on Pokémon Platinum using only your rival's team, I have said so before and I think his floundering during the double battle in this episode shows why. But an idea came to me during this video that I have just got to try out in a ROM, what would it look like if the rival used a MDB pokémon team instead? I shall have to get back to you on this.
Rival team in platinum would be so frustrating because you have to get a munchlax and a heracross from honey trees

Pokémon Challenge suggestion: You are free to go with the game of your choice, but the challenges is using only middle evolution stage pokémon. (For Exemple: If you pick Bulbasaur as your starter, you can only battle with Ivysaur.) You are not allowed to use pokémon who's has no evolution or only 1, it must be a pokémon with a 2 stage linear Evolution. So pokémon like Eevee or Tyrogue are not allowed, but pokémon like Oddish, Poliwag or Ralts are allowed.
Try number: 6
Having done a couple of these myself recently, I would like to see MDB try it. There are some good middle forms, but definitely still can be a challenge.
Though a complicated addendum: Your array of middle forms depends on the generation or region a Pokemon actually is a middle form. (For example, no Golbat in Kanto since Crobat wasn't a thing yet, or no Magmar until generation 4 or Sinnoh)
I love that if the second rule was relevant it would say that you can't use Hm Pokemon in battle. Therefore on a technicality the run isn't possible. Keep up the good work MDB😃

I just found my copies of Blue and Yellow the other day and was considering doing a run (or maybe just pokedex completion tho I'd be short 4 mons without glitches) on a physical cart cause why not. I've got Stadium 2 so that makes it a bit easier (tho i need to unlock Doduo mode at least).

I feel like a Diamond run with one Aipom is the natural spiritual successor to this run
HMs only AKA Surf - the run.
I doubt they thought anything of early toxic, after all items in battle are the default so it never really builds up.
Fun fact, Garchomp gets Surf, Rock Smash, Strength, Rock Climb and Cut, so would actually be useable in this run, would solve that electric weakness.

Isn't it kind of poetic in an HM only playthrough that the most famous HM-slave got the final hit to win the run? Idk if Mah-Dry-Bread did that on purpose, but regardless, in my mind, it just solidifies Bibarel as the king of pokemon HM moves with such an incredible performance like that!!
The let's play I want back is the Crusader Kings one. You're the one who got me to start playing CK. Halfway want to go back and rewatch one of the old ones but those playthroughs are so long.
The Jewish Bohemia and Shiekh of Mecca CK2 ones are both great, especially Bohemia. The Wessex CK3 one has some of the best comedy; amazing stuff like...*DuKe pHiLiPpE*

Pointless trivia:
He actually got some decent luck with his early party members.
- Bidoof with Adamant nature, which is its best nature. + Atk, - Sp Atk. Awesome, especially early on when having to rely on Rock Smash and Cut.
- Starly had a "Proud of its power" characteristic, which indicates a high Attack IV. Very handy on his Fly user.
- Magikarp had a "Loves to eat" characteristic, which indicates a high HP IV. Which is actually pretty good on a Water Onix.
- And Sassy actually isn't bad for an Empoleon; it has low Speed anyway, and rather good Special Defense, so numerically least it was a good nature.
And yeah, the level jump for the Elite Four was quite the obstacle for Diamond/Pearl, though it balanced out a bit due to their team options (Aaron had to use starter bugs, for crying out loud; and Flint is notorious for being a Fire specialist in a game with only 2 Fire types). Though we also didn't have only 4 move types available for use, so good on MDB for working through that.
I am so glad that you mentioned that twitch is free to watch and join and follow people cuz I would always just ignore anything anyone posted about twitch cuz I figured it was just another way to get us on a paid platform you know something that I can't afford to do I had no idea it was free to do so thanks so much for that information I understand a lot of people that follow you probably already knew that but there's a few people like me who had no idea
And now we wait to see if ‘aura sphere can’t miss’ will become as infamous as ‘dogmeat can wear armor’

I’ve been watching your content for years, and it’s actually inspired me to do my own challenge runs in other games.
Ive only done one challenge run in pokemon (other than nuzlockes) and that was a random number generator run in emerald and fire red. It was pretty fun as I got a lot of bad pokemon (I got luvdisk and mawile in emerald) and even a repeat in fire red (magnamite and magnaton)
I’ve mostly been doing challenge runs in JRPGs like octopath traveler and bravely default 2. Actually the first one was in bravely default 2, being no braving and no defaulting. It was quite fun and I still came out with pretty broken builds.
I’m currently near the end of one, which is octopath 2 with only elemental skills. I’ve been logging it on Reddit, as I don’t have a capture card yet, and it’s been very fun.
Anyways, all I want to say is thank you. You’ve brung me joy and I love your challenge runs and playthroughs.

Can you Beat Oblivion, Poison only run?
The rules are pretty simple:
- you can only use Poison as a means of dealing damage
- when using alchemy, you can only make poison
of course, you can add rules as you see fit
As usually, I'm writing this before you ever did the challenge

5:54 I learned recently that the trainer AI in Diamond & Pearl *ALWAYS* chooses a random move, even if they have a super effective attack.

I got very excited when I heard Aipom, my favorite Pokémon, was gonna be used, and since it didn’t I’m once again asking for Pokémon Soul Silver with only one Aipom.
A fun run could be 'Pokemon Platinum with Crasher Wake's Team' Iirc, it's Water Onix, Floatzel, and Quagsire. They get some good coverage.

I have some ideas for future runs! So the first is Vulpix only run in gen 4. In Platinum it should work? Heart Gold/Soul Silver is way harder this way, so i guess a full team of them?
An easy run (you need those too, so don't complain!) would be an Eeveelution run. All 7 of gen 4 in Platinum. In Heart Gold Soul Silver this should work too? I'm not sure where you can evolve Leafeon and Glaceon. So best should be Platinum.
Third is, can you beat Pokémon Crystal as Elite 4 Bruno? I'm not sure how well or bad this will run. I guess it could be easy, but i don't know.

Torrent on Empoleon is probably why Surf was doing more against Gyarados than Rock Climb, along with Empoleon just having much better Special Attack, anyway.
Imagine doing an entire run using only Pokémon found in honey trees. Sounds like the kind of run you put on the back burner as you try to gather your team.
You're in luck, because MDB actually already did Pokemon Platinum with only honey tree pokemon about 3 years ago. Worth a watch.
You might never see this but challenge idea if you want it, WWE / wrestling run where you pick either your favorite wrestler or have us vote for a wrestler and find a Pokemon "Version" Like Kane=Charmander or something like that. It can be a team run if you want or solo Sikoa run ☝.

Interesting choice to fight the Elite 4 with only 5 members. I know the 6th spot with meant for Aipom but I’m sure you could have thrown anyone else to do some chip damage or tank some hits.

I've got a few for ya
- LG/FR with Butterfree and Beedrill
- using only Rocket, Magma, Aqua, Galactic pokemon
- Stone evolution only
- Friendship evolution only
- Trade evolution only
I unwittingly did this challenge on my first play through at 6 yrs old. Mike the torterra ended up knowing cut strength rock smash and rock climb at lvl like 90something. Didn’t know the move deleter existed until I was 7
heres an interesting challenge, pokemon b/w but you can only use pokemon with intimidate. there are some good options that you wouldnt typically get to use (gyarados, stoutland, krookodile and even scrafty if youre willing to try and find a hidden ability one)

I have an idea for a fun challenge, One that means you could even use Drowzee. Can you beat Pokemon Black (Or any game from gen's 5 ,6 or 7) with only the move Assist? Purrloin learns Assist at level 6 so it'd be the starter, Then if you get a male Purrloin you can breed it with other's to get more Pokemon. I think this would be a great wacky challenge since the more Pokemon on your team the more random the move is.
For any that don't know Assist uses a random move known by any of the user's party Pokémon, With some exceptions. So even Pokemon that can't use Assist would still be useful if they have good moves that Assist can use. Drowzee is in the Human-Like Egg Group so If you want one with Assist you'd need a Spinda since they're in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so can breed with Purrloin and Drowzee. You could also use a Chimchar as a starter if you give it Assist as an Egg Move, They're also in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so a male one can breed the move into any Pokemon with Assist.

Any generation you feel like playing using only TM moves would be a fun and breezy team run. I’d ban HM moves from that run so it doesn’t turn into the Surf and Strength show like HM runs tend to. Platinum gives you Return almost immediately, but most gens would work.
Also recommending Stunky in HGSS again because he’s a cute Pokemon

This might be an intersting idea in some Romhacks. Like with how Drayano usually changes the HM moves to be more interesting.
So close to my run idea of using just one mew with no hm pokemon, would be so interesting to know if it's even possible considering how many hms are needed in each game

Man, I love Sinnoh Runs. Shame most of your moves were normal. But if you're gonna do a Normal-Heavy Sinnoh Run, you should do a Platinum Lopunny Solo!
In Platinum you could theoretically trade in a Scrappy Miltank or Kangaskahn for Gym 3 since they can both learn Rock Smash.
A fun pokechallenge you could do is first form only. You can use whatever pokemon you want, so will be fun.
It feels like the team needed a bit more variety here

I was wondering what happened when I heard mdb say girlfriend. But hey that's private life and thats fine but it is nice to have a "formal" update, so we don't have to ask. Its good to hear there was no major health issues mentioned presumably that means things are going pretty reasonably at a minimum. And presumably having more time for streams also means more lets plays and challenges. I hope you're health is actually as good as it has sounded recently. Sounds like you're in a lot better place than you were 2 years or so ago. So I'm happy aboit that. Take care and stay safe.
