The only way for a Chingling to have 213 special attack is if it has a bare minimum of 115 EVs in special attack AND perfect 31 IVs. You got crazy lucky with that thing.
It can have IVs as low as 10 with higher EVs but it's still highly unlikely. It can reach 213 with 25 IVs at 150 EVs.
The chances of hitting 115 ev in one stat on a mono pokemon run is insane, let alone hitting even more than that in case of non-perfect ivs.
@connorsms1 it all depends on what he trained against to get from 80 to 95, if he trained against pokemon and didn't rare candy. If he did rare candy it's possible he used vitamins which gets you between 100 to 109 EVs which he could then get the remaining EVs to reach 213 spa just from battles from that point.
@@stigmaoftherose On a solo pokemon run i feel like he would have maxed out his evs sometime in the 50s, i doubt he has any room left at 80-95. You get between 1 and 3 evs per pokemon, and its easy to think that he could have fought 300-400 pokemon by level 50.
I guess I should have been clearer. My point was he needed a minimum of 115 EV, and that was assuming max IV. I know you can EV train and get stats crazy high, I was just saying he was crazy lucky. Also, it’s not like he specifically went after an EV like some people talk about doing in challenge vids, he just played through the game. And I doubt that maxed the Special Attack EVs. I mean, just saying.
What a nice thing to wake up to.
Chingling (and Chimecho for that matter) are among those Pokémon that I have NEVER used.
Or go to bed to
What a nice Ching*
i would LOVE to use chimecho to be honest, i think it's so cute but it's just so hard to use being so weak
Chimeco is my favorite Pokémon
I thought they were only other trainer pokemon i never used nor saw one in the wild
The two crits on that Skuntank while not getting crit by night slash (which has a higher crit chance) is CRAZY
i know right? i haven't even started watching it yet but i know Exactly what fight you must be talking about, i battled that skuntank 3 times with a bronzor 8 levels higher than it 3 times because it just kept getting no stop crits
I think it was from an Abra run a few years ago, but I remember that night slash Skuntank being an absolute meat grinder
MDB shows his true pride as a guardian in this challenge
It's like a baby daughter of mine...
Mike Bell was a wrestler mostly for WWE and ECW. He died at the age of 37 while attempting to get high from the stuff in compressed air that keeps it cool which caused him to have a heart attack. While he was mostly an enhancement talent (someone who loses to make contracted wrestlers look good) WWE still honored him by issuing a statement and sending condolences to his family. Here’s to Mike Bell, gone but not forgotten!
The fact that a literal *bell* is not a steel type baffles me but it might have made Flint impossible so maybe it’s a blessing.
Maybe it's because it's such a thin metal that they thought giving it the defense of a steel type wouldn't suit it? That's the only theory I can think of.
I think that is just a case of Chimecho, it's evolution based on a glass wind chime being released first so the typing was already determined by that.
@@gard540 I did think of that! But there are Pokémon who lose a type when evolving (Gloom -> Bellosom) so it wouldn’t be *completely* impossible. You might be right though.
@@AverageEggmonEnthusiast But you just cited the only total loss (not replacement) of a type in all of Pokémon, which happened in still-getting-it-together Gen 2, so it's not like it's a common pattern and would need quite the reason to be used again. Chingling is not a good reason, and losing the Steel type would potentially make Chimecho quite the downgrade from Chingling, insult to injury on an already underwhelming and forgettable Pokémon.
@@BioniclesaurKing4t2 My comment was about lore, not balancing. But if your counter argument that gen 2 wasn’t established enough yet, I counter with gen 6’s Mega Aggron who becomes a pure Steel type. Either way, since Chinecho is made of glass it could be made into Rock (like nihilego which seems to be made of glass as well) or Ground (since glass is made of materials such as sand, ash, and limestone.)
Don't forget to ring that Mike Bell to stay notified!
I love Purugly, and it gave me intense pain watching you think it was a dark type, lol.
Definitely consider Natural Gift, it can solve a single nasty foe per battle.
You know what it is? I think I mix it up with Purrloin.
World's first Purugly fan. Lol jk
God, same. It physically hurt me.
Also, fellow purugly fan! I love that big kitty :3
Also seemed to think fake out was super effective
@@Giga-lemesh pretty sure he meant Faint Attack, rather than Fake Out, as it was using that move too.
Now do a challenge with Mike Bellsprout!
Togekiss: “Who a-are you…!?”
Chingling at 2 HP: “I’m Mike Bell, and *i ain’t hear no bell.”*
You probably could have made quite a few fights easier with Natural Gift. A Leppa berry would give you a Fighting move for 4x damage on Weavile, for instance. Glad you could finish the game with this little cutie!
Being fair, Natural Gift would have been running off Chingling's terrible Attack, plus you do need to either look up or experiment a lot to know the berry types aside from the super-effective protection ones. And also the move is quite a bit weaker here than in Gen 6 beyond, only being 60 power on most berries and 70 on some.
... I'm just surprised he didn't pick up Icy Wind to deal with Garchomp, though aside from Garchomp I guess it would have been redundant coverage, and hey, he won anyway.
As a Little Cup, main seeing you use all our lower tier mons is so good. 🙌🙌
I now know people who understand wrestling. Mentioning you in passing is the way I can connect to them despite my nerdy side being heavily pokemon oriented!
Keep being you!
213 on a positive nature is pretty darn good. Assuming it's the maximum of 31 IVs (which would translate to 31*1.1 extra stat points at lvl 100) it means you would have round about 120 EVs in special attack. This could have been way worse
Santa's Delibird must be so proud of their baby daughter
Purugly is a normal type only, not dark, so that early grind wasn't necessary. But still love the videos MDB keep it up man!
Chingling and chimecho are pokemon that ive always wanted to use but are typically so rare or so late that i already have a team set up by the time i find it
You realized this before the Elite 4 but when you predicted at the start about needing to be a huge level for the Steel Gym and stuff like that I couldn’t help but feel you had mispredicted the threats, as STAB Special Psychic type moves are really strong. The main thing I was worried about were Dark types as many Psychics can get a Fairy move or something these days but a Gen 4 Chingling was gonna struggle in those situations and you did really well to overcome them 😊
MDB: "I used the Universal Pokémon Randomizer to replace Chimchar."
Rival: _Uses a Chimchar_
Congratulations MDB! Excellent job with this guy! You've shown how powerful chingling may come to be, I wasn't optimistic about this challenge in the beginning though, I must say. I had thought it wouldn't be possible, I confess.
Thanks for providing such great content every week, I watched your podcast and can only wish you all the luck in life. You are a great human, someone people would wanted to listen you speak. Love from India❤
MDB doing a stellar job of ringing in the challenges. Keep going and I would be intrigued to see you can you beat Pokemon Ruby Saphire with only Larvester.
I enjoy the dou-BELL pun considering how long Chingling held that Shell Bell for the run. 🛎️🛎️👍
I've always found Chimecho to be fairly underrated whenever I've used one ... and it stands that Chingling would be a fun run :3
Still holding out for some eventual Qwilfish love :P
Chingling is one of my favourites, I know this will be tough but I'm really excited to see this!
Great run! It's funny when you are wrong about whether you can win, let's go little bell 'mon!
Comments, algorithms, you know the drill. Love your videos MDB.
Because of the nickname, Saturn of Team Galactic is the unofficial boss of this run 😉
I love that the bell is holding a bell.
love this vids, but can def tell how much harder diff games are with being 40-50 levels higher and still die alot... regardless of such low stats to start this is a crazy lucky W..
1:54 - this is a run I don't see even you beating.
21:07 - I stand corrected, well done. 👍
MDB I’ve been watching you for years and I love your Pokémon challenges. I would like to request a Pokémon Gold with only one Pineco run. I don’t think you’ve ever used him yet and I love gen 2. Keep up the amazing content!
you got such a unique voice, its so calming
Yay🎉 upload day!
Hope your health is improving ❤️🩹 keep up the good work 💚
I love that the most unneeded baby form to a Pokemon who needed an evolution instead can still beat the game.
that was a crazy run honestly didn´t think you´d make it past Fantina
MDB: struggling with purugly
me: **internal pain** just use confusion
I find the name hilarious, even without getting the reference.
That was great. I love chingling and chimecho even though theyre not great.
The little bell had a surprisingly good endgame. I did Shining Pearl with a full team of Pokemon, and without evolving, and Cynthia gave them much more trouble even with having a Jirachi on my team. I expected a W after beating the last Cyrus fight, but Mike Bell just kept putting in work.
Didn't believe that you could finish it, it was an intersting challenge 😊
That Meowth battle was wild, better luck next time!
Have a nice week, thank you for the challenge=)
This is so sick because I have a MDB run with a Pokémon named after me. I’m of no relation to the wrestler but still cool AF
Surprisingly many close fights in this one
Ding Ding Ding!
Requesting Pokemon B2W2 With Only One Chinchou.
Former Saints running back Mike Bell! Hell yeah haha
Geniuinely surprised you managed to beat this challenge. Once I saw you level up to 100 before the league I figured that was that, you'd get walled, and that would be the end of the run
CHINGLING IS THE CUTEST POKÉMON BECAUSE IT'S LIKE A BABY DAUGHTER OF MINE
I used Chimecho in a Gen 4 Nuzlocke recently, mostly for its coverage. It ended up being a surprisingly solid glass cannon, but I was always afraid of it dying because it was so frail.
Metal Sound indeed does a ton of damage
Seems like we all underestimated Chingling and Chimecho.
Yaaaay! A baby bell! I'm so happy. I'd love to see you do Pokémon Black 2 with either a Skorupi or a Spinarak!
I don't remember if you've done it or not, but I'd love a "Can I beat B/W or B2/W2 with only Audino?" run.
I've had this idea since I've rediscovered your channel: You have one wigglytuff but there's a catch: you must keep sing but it's always disabled and you cannot replace it. So basically, it's a silly idea I had but I'm able to give you an idea for a challenge run.
You sounded fine.
Great vid
That was incredible. Lol😂
Let's go! Ching baby
Holy crap in time for a premiere for once
Should've nicknamed it "Mike Hawk" since every trainer in Sinnoh has to witness the ding-a-ling
I think it's possible considering the movepool. You have the options many other first former's didn't have, and as a special attacker all the intimidate pokemon aren't going to be as big an issue.
idk something about this pokemon reminds me of a baby daughter of mine
Yay! Chingling! I love Chingling!
Here's my ideas:
1. Any pokemon game with a first firm starter. This would be a fun change considering you rarely use starters except for gift pokemon runs and no new moves.
2. Pokemon black with one pikachu or one eeveE. You've done nearly every game with each; now you just gotta beat gen 5.
I used to always go to that cafe at the valor lake front. Usually good money in case i need it later. Always wish you couldve flown to that hotel area
This video is awesome always love these videos. If I may request a run could we get pokemon pearl (not shining pearl) with only fire types as I would like to see what you do with only two pokemon.
Too bad the Move Tutor that has Signal Beam is in the Battle Zone, that would have been amazing versus all those Dark Types...
Still, an amazing run. Glad you were able to complete it!
The level of patience some people have
1:19 I think you might be able to do it. I dunno but I believe in the little guy
Weirdly surreal having my comment referenced in the ending, and even weirder than I’ve watched your videos for years and I thought to mention Mike Bell the same week this video went up lol. For reference, I spent several years working as a photographer for Mark Bell, who became a notable power lifter after never making it as a wrestler because he was business partners with my dad. They used to have a fairly successful RUclips channel and podcast together, so I met Mad Dog Mike Bell several times and their other brother Chris Bell who directed a documentary about steroids they’re all in.
Chingling super lucky or just a stellar run? Fun to hear you say this will suck then be pleasantly surprised a fight is either quick or easier than you'd dreaded it'd be.
I checked your nature (quiet) which gave you a boost to sp attack but decrease in speed.
Also Pokémon challenge recommendation; Pokémon platinum with Cranidos and/or Shieldon (team or solo run)
That darn Chingling is a damn crit machine!
Rapidash being one of my favourite Pokemon, I would love to see a one Ponyta challenge in Pokemon Emerald
What a glass canon!!
id be curious as to how fun a cubchoo run would be
i love teddiursa and ursaring
and i love gen V
so combining em while keeping it a chalange makes ...
cunchoo
P.S.
its attack is actualy good
but its an ice type and its defense is only 40 so an ice canon
Yay a platinum run 🎉
Pokémon Emerald with only one Electabuzz
Yes back to the harder challenges
Its a good thing shockwave never misses so that helps
People are focusing in on the great SpA IVs, which were probably alright, but they're difficult to determine because the EV's are unpredictable and level 5 isn't precise enough. But interestingly, Chris Bell here had perfect or near-perfect HP IVs. That survival on 2 HP... Chris Bell is indeed in the top percentage of Bells.
Random words of the "Day"™: day 670, 671, 672, and 673: Belong, Bellows, Favouritism, Paparazzi
Chingling is such a derpy pokemon for me, I like it but I wouldn't really use it. Once again, Good job on the challenge, that's another W under your belt. Another Regigigas run is going to he amazing to watch!
Love your videos, I wait for them , one request though Can you do some newer games too, gen 1 and 2 are not that fun anymore to see please ❤
Who would've thought Chingling would do a better job than Shinx and Bidoof
I'm honestly surprised as I've used Chingling/Chimecho in Platinum before and it felt super under powered and I did not think you'd be able to get through it.
Black and white 2 with only baby pokemon. (Start with a smoochum, or igglybuff if you'd like since you can get them in dream radar if you don't want to, you still get riolu and Azurill early)
I said it on your last challenge video, but I should actually say it on a Pokemon one:
Suggestion: "Can you beat Pokemon Infinite Fusion with only a Water Onix?" Or, a Let's Play of Infinite Fusion with a Water Onix. Fuse Onix with Magikarp/Gyarados, with the water type as the dominant mon (that way it looks more like the one in your last Water Onix video).
If you find out you can, then you can do various combinations of Magikarp, Gyarados, Onix, and Steelix for future videos as you get more familiar with that game.
great job
this remind me of your Gible run, although this run is much better than Gible run. yes, Gible's type weakness type also play the factor here, but geez, who have though that Chingling is better than Gible? lolz
some of those shockwave uses, stab psychic wouldve done more than super effective shockwave, like on the togekiss at the end
I will say, challenge run or no, Purugly is always a freaking tank in that game
Wanna know how bad chingling is? It was SPEED TIED with an ONIX 5 levels LOWER than it!
as a heads up, STAB neutral psychic does more damage than non-STAB super-effective shock wave (135 vs. 120)
Me when no Confusion on Purugly: 💀
Used Chingling in Diamond and was severely disappointed. I'm really sirprised it did this well.
I’m commenting before I watch! Hopefully you used rare candies if you needed max lvl!!
PM7 would love this
The shell bell was the real MVP
I wonder how much better this run would have gone with Hidden Power Fighting or Natural Gift with a Leppa berry? Having the fighting coverage for Weavile and other dark and steel tup would have broken its only walls
I can’t remember if you decided on using rare candies for late game grinding, but you could easily sell those for money to the slot machines.
