I still want to see a Ruby/Emerald challenge while using only Assist, where you are allowed to add any Pokemon to your team to give Skitty moves to pull from with Assist, and you can teach those Pokemon TMs, but you cannot use EXP share to level them, and cannot use them in battle. It would be interesting to see how you customize the moves Skitty can pull from for each boss fight using the pokemon available at that point in the game.
@@mardenjunior1799yeah I just looked it up. Guess I didn't know since it wasn't until Gen 5 when anything other than skitty/delcatty could learn it. I never used Skitty. Edit: nevermind, it was actually gen IV that Glameow could learn it. But I never used Glameow either- I never even saw it until Purrloin and Liepard in gen V
It's funny how Mah-Dry says Thunderbolt is the weirdest move Staryu can have where I'm just staring at Skullbash like "Ah yes, how fitting for a starfish which are notorious for having skulls"
You would not believe how many Gen 1 Pokemon can learn Skull Bash from the TM; it's such a garbage move (only 100 power and no defense buff in Gen 1) with such wide distribution. Most of them at least have a skull or can be inferred to have a skull, no idea about Staryu.
I actually saw a scientific paper recently that likened starfish and other echinoderms to disembodied heads walking on their lips, so I guess Skull Bash is oddly fitting
Dont question why goldeen can learn flash and hyperrbeam. There was even a Isekai manwha , something about a man becoming a fish and those fishes have attacks like pokemon. A goldfish important sidecharacter ( not to confuse with MC just because she's been there the whole time ) Her goldfish body could use hyperbeam and flash. That day i learned goldeen and golking are able to learn those moves lol
@@ItsJustKaya goldeen and flash I can kinda understand if you think of it like the pokemon has shiny reflective scales that could use the move during the day if the sun is up, but flash at night or using hyperbeam yea I don't get that either lol
8:40 Victreebel's base crit chance is 13.671875% but in Gen 1 crit chance raising moves crit 8 Times as much as normal moves this means victreebel crits in about 99.67% of all razorleafs that hit the target. It isn't 100% because a move gets checked if it crits the same way a move hits in Gen 1 so it is affected by its own 1 in 256 Glitch. Venusaur because of its higher base speed will have the same chance to crit with razor leaf.Hope this helps
Why didn't you go for the TMs right away? You had Thunderbolt after Surge, Ice Beam when you got to Celadon and Psychic when you got to Saffron. Psychic would've been great for you in this run, nailing half of Team Rocket, all of Koga's Gym, almost all of Erika's gym, 60% of Bruno's team and all of Agatha's team. The Special drop from Psychic is particularly crippling in Gen I, as it makes their special attacks weaker and yours stronger.
MDB is not known for always making the smartest choices in games. He's still in the mindset of wondering if a certain Pokemon can beat the game when everyone knows they can.
@@mc11213 He doesn't wonder if the Pokémon can beat the game. He wonders if HE can beat the game with that Pokémon. Thats why the videos are called "Can I beat x with y" and not "Can YOU beat..." .^^

I've done this one before, but I have an unhealthy obsession with Gen 1 Pokemon and its wackiness so I remembered about the good TMs earlier which definitely gave me an easier time. Did I miss something or did you just miss the Psychic TM? It would have made Agatha a lot less scary, though finding room for it can be a bit annoying if your moveset is Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Surf, and Recover like it's very likely to be.

gen1 razor leaf is effectively guaranteed shot. normally tghe crit chance is basespeed over /256 for high crit moves like razor leave base speed/64. Venusaur has 80 base speed. so the crit chance is actually 125% if my math is right^^
Rival Fival has a single regular potion!?! I've literally NEVER seen him use that before and I both watch (and occasionally do) many pokemon challenges to relax.
Seeing you go into the grass gym without Ice Beam or Psychic was painful. 😬😅 Unrelated note: In Gen 1, high critical hit ratio moves will always (99.6%) critically hit when used by Pokémon with base speed of 64 or higher. In RBY, any pokemon with base speed of 64 or over will have a crit chance of 255/256 with any high crit rate move. So Venusaur and Victreebel will practically always crit with Razor Leaf.
Is that after accuracy checks? Because if I remember right, accuracy in Gen 1 is bugged where if the accuracy check rolls 256 it misses because it’s only looking for numbers lower than 256. So if crit and accuracy are part of the same check that would mean it either crits or it misses. Which is crazy.
@@AceWolf456 two separate checks with the same coding mistake (a less than instead of a less than or equal to) and the accuracy bug doesn't apply to razor leaf, as razor leaf isn't 100% accurate.
I think a fun challenge that you could even rank would be "How fast can the legendry team beat their game!" so it could be like mew and mewtwo, Lugia and Ho-Oh, Groudon and Kyogre and so on. then after you get them all done you could rank them on speed, consistency, and of course how much fun you had!
Proposed challenge for Fallout 4: Graverobber Challenge. You cannot loot anything (except quest items, bobbleheads, and magazines) from any container that isn't a corpse. You cannot loot any items (except quest items, bobbleheads, and magazines) sitting out in the world unless they're placed by Bethesda (or a mod creator) in a way that implies a person/creature/robot/etc., had it on them when they died. You can only spend caps that were looted from a source the previous two rules made viable, or obtained by selling items thusly looted. You may loot corpses (and items implied to have been on them upon death) that you did not make yourself (you don't have to have been the one to kill somebody/something, in order to claim their loot). For the purposes of this challenge, destroyed robots, piles of goo/ash, and any other form of remains that used to be-or be part of-some entity with at least some semblance of life, are all considered corpses.

2:18 Actually, I have thought about Stardust recently. There’s an anime airing right now, called SHY, and one of the character’s is named Stardust. And he just looks like David Bowie as an anime character. Wait hold on, I forgot what channel I’m watching. Lemme… yup, he’s a wrestler. Oops.
I might have an interesting challenge. Gen 2 with getting the whole Tyrogue line into the hall of fame. It might not be as hard combat-wise, but more on the planning. And it will incorporate breeding, I think that will be a first
One challenge I had in mind for a pretty long time: A Pokémon game (you can choose which one) with only one Togepi. I however do recommend having on that lil guy a Serene Grace and not hustle, trust me, it will make the run MUCH MORE managable.
Stardust...ah I remember! He was a very short lived character of Cody Rhodes (The American Nightmare) when he was teaming with his brother Goldust.
Oops.
Ugh this is mildly painful. You had so many moves to use! What where you doing.
I'd like to see a gen2 Chinchou run.
15:22 ...barely an inconvenience.
⭐
Requesting Pokemon B2W2 with Only One Chinchou.
Stardust...ah I remember! He was a very short lived character of Cody Rhodes (The American Nightmare) when he was teaming with his brother Goldust.
After Misty no easy gyms until Blaine...you know with Erika and Koga...it would be a SHAME if you could get and use both the Ice Beam and Psychic TMs...oh wait...you can!
without even watching this im gonna say probably lol. Staryu/Starmie is arguably one of the greatest pokemon competitively ever, between having a great typing (psychic being broken in gen 1) and between surf/thunderbolt/psychic/ice beam or recover, youre basically unstoppable, now if only it wasnt one of my least favorite pokemon because at the end of the day its still just a starfish, when I have choices like cannon turtle, literal dragon and a half lizard/half mantis
It would be so funny that you do the Fossil gag but choosing the Dome Fossil while saying you picked the Helix Fossil.
How long would it take to see challenges In gen 6
Pokémon FireRed with Mew, but rival has Mewtwo, please!
Loved the run, loved the Stardust reference! At least one of you finished the story. But I can't BELIEVE you didn't get TM29, MDB! I just automatically link Psychic to the Star-evoline.
Pokémon Platinum using Cranidos and/or Shieldon (team or solo run)
Also, I'm taking a page from your book and doing a Soul Silver run using only Chansey using your rules
i would love to see a challenge using only one type move (only fire or water moves etc.).
"It was super easy."
... Go on.
I wish Mah-Dry-Bread would just tell us what fossil he gets when doing gen 1 runs. It's so frustrating when content creators don't answer the key questions everyone wants.
Staryu has always been one of my favorites, and I blame the anime for becuase of its battle cry.
have you heard of that mod that turns gen 1 into a 2 player game by letting someone else control the a.i.? i'd like to see you do a run in that with whatageek or gooseit playing as the a.i. or even the reverse with you as the a.i. against them.
That would be cool to see but if the one between Smant and Wolfy is any indication then they take ages to make.
@@AussieRider20 sadly that's probably the case...
Nugget bridge rival I figured would be easy. Vine whip is special and your special is high. Also, Erika should be insanely easy. Ice Beam sweep
play with just the game corner prize pokemon, could be fun
Great video, but what fossil did you take this time?
ah, Staryu. Any pokemon with BoltBeam should be fun, because it can hit any and every pokemon for at least neutral damage
I'm sure someone already said it, but a grass Pokemon with Razor Leaf and a normal Pokemon with something like Slash is basically a 100% crit chance in gen 1
Being named after Stardust. What a nightmare.
Cody Rhodes disliked this video. That's a part of his story he doesn't want to talk about.
MDB, why do they always do dumb stuff, AFTER you spend time grinding for the win? Do the games just sense it and decide to waste your time?
A solo run with beldum would be cool. Once I got it at the end of the game I remember I would try and solo run it through the map, obviously couldn’t do gyms tho so would be cool to see a from the start play through. I bet you got the amber fossil btw 😂
Still love to see you try geodude in emerald.
I would love a Aaron run, he is my go yo steel type is the cutest thing ever
Was it just me or was the lightning gym called the water gym at around 8 minutes?
