Mismagius is super cool i almost swept aaron except the drapion and leading with torterra to put stealth rocks and it was invaluable for both flint and lucian
My best Pokémon in a Platinum nuzlocke was my Kricketune "Beugh". She literally wouldn't die no matter what battle I put her in. She lived on 1-5 HP from random crits like 7 times. She beat Roark's Cranidos with Bide living on 3 HP, She swept Gardenia's entire team with Fury Cutter, survived a Shadow Ball from Fantina's Mismagius (which brought her to 9 HP), and crit OHKO'd with X-Scissor. She also took 2 Metal Claws from Maylene's Lucario (the 2nd of which raised its Attack). I decided after Maylene to box her so as to preserve her life since I knew even with all her luck she'd most likely perish around Wake or Byron's gym. I even made a special box for her called "BestBug". Beugh will always have a spot as the best lucky mon I've ever had.
This is what I love about nuzlockes, sometimes you get pokemon who are just absolute heroes despite their flaws and survive through the high stakes to lead your team to unlikely victories. In my own diamond nuzlocke I have a golduck with almost all of its IVs in the 20s and a careful nature and he is an absolute monster. I've even used swagger/psych up to set him up as a halfway decent physical sweeper
@@stellarknight04 Kricketune has a base 85 attack, X-Scissor has stab and the resist I think cancels out that boost. A crit makes it a base 160 move coming from a Pokémon with not bad attack. I don't think it's cap, especially with a bit of EV training and potentially edging
I started a non-nuzlocke bug only run in Pearl without a levelcap (just playing normally and not trying to overlevel). I was amazed when Kricketune swept roark with fury cutter as my only valid pokemon at the time. (I took turtwig to make rival fights harder, he's also an HM slave so he can still contribute)
27:38 metal coat is held by wild bronzor which you can find outside the eterna city entrance to mt coronet in platinum and you get thief by cutting down a tree outside galactic hq so you can actually get a steelix after gardenia and before jupiter
Thats probably not a fun way to get it, you have 10% for bronzor and then 5% of bronzor hild a metal coat. (.5% chance per wild encounter, --> around 140 total encounters for a 50% chance of getting it) So definitely possible but probably not worth the effort just for Jupiter unless you genuinely need a Steelix for her. (As right after her you get a bike and the encounter rate for bronzor jumps to 30% in wayward cave under the cycling road. I believe this is the best early metal coat location.)
21:33 “No-one’s gonna be offended by me putting Ambipom in C tier, right?” I am offended. It should be much lower. I got this thing in a run and I hate it. But I made it my cut user so I kept having to look at it’s stupid face. You mentioned it having Baton Pass as a move and yeah it does, but it also learns literally no setup moves. Literally nothing that boosts it’s own stats. So Baton Pass is a dead move on it. I also think double-hit is it’s best move in this Gen? Which is absolutely pathetic. So yeah the pits of F tier for me. I’d rather have anything else. Including male Combee because at least he’s cute. Side note: I wanna mention how my Ambipom died because it’s hilarious. He missed double hit 4 times in a row but was one hit away from the fight being over. Either way if I hit Ambipom lives if he hit Ambipom dies. (Side note I didn’t switch out because this was the 2nd time this situation had happened.) I was out of patience and just said outloud “if you miss you deserve it.” Ambipom missed and died, and I slept like a baby. *ahem* so yeah Ambipom imbedded in the floor of this building
Actually, it does learn Agility and Nasty Plot for Baton Pass. As for best move... If we go by power alone, then I'd say by numbers alone it's Last Resort, but you'd rather use Strength or something on it, which has more accuracy and power than Double Hit
my MVP for sure. Return, Agility, nasty plot, and baton pass and I was able to run through the whole league using Ambipom as my lead. STAB return is crazy good for some difficult low defense pokemon plus Ambipom is fast and hits hard. Easy to set up against Lucian for a dark pulse/shadow ball user to sweep. Similar set-up can be used for Aaron or even Cynthia if you have a good mon.
the most frustrating thing is when i have versed against ambipom it always does so much damage, the thing is dogsh*t when the player uses it but as soon as the opponent uses it, it becomes a menace.;
Houndoom is by far the best counter to Candice's Froslass. Fire/Dark walls her entire moveset and it gets Odor Sleuth to completely negate Snow Cloak and Double Team
@@mrpiccionedivino5598 its a fantastic pokemon in platinum, we have seen how op fire/dark can be in the later gens with incineroar. With nasty plot aswell and base 95 speed this thing can sweep so many teams in this game, i have never used one but will definitely do so the next time i play a pokemon game.
I almost feel like Staraptor got done a little dirty here IMO it’s S tier. Or at the very least top of A tier. Intimidate is awesome and you get it early. It also gets wing attack at lv9 which is really strong stab for that early in the game. Also later on Return is really strong stab on a Pokemon with very high attack. Staraptor is very good basically throughout the game. It’s physical bulk isn’t that bad since it has intimidate but yea it’s special def is pretty dog ass. Close Combat is nice coverage as weird as it is to think of a bird just beating the brakes off someone. It’s just a really awesome pokemon
The problem with Staraptor is that it's always dead to a crit late game because it's so frail, meaning it often can't switch in on a lot of mons. Also, anything it can do, Gyrados just does better. Gyrados has better typing, better stats, a better move pool and it is fully evolved before the 2nd gym. It's still probably the 2nd best intimidate user in Platinum, and you can't write off any pokemon with 120 base attack and moves like Close Combat and Brave Bird, but it's too frail to be an S tier mon.
@@Cookynator gyarados doesn’t do everything better than staraptor but gyarados really doesn’t learn any good flying moves so staraptor can be used pretty well in nuzlockes
I'd also like to point out that Gallade can also learn Elemental Punches. Sure you have to find some shards but it's really cool that he's such a versatile pokemon. (You can also teach him brick break from the tm you can find at Oreburgh Gate 2nd floor).
You can easily farm shards using the underground. Step 1: go down there the first time Step 2: dig up a bunch of spheres Step 3: bury them all in rows next to each other Step 4: wait 12 hours Step 5: go back down where you buried the spheres, a bunch of dig spots will spawn
Dude this is so incredible, I just started a Platinum nuzlocke on Thursday so it’s so helpful to see this! I’m grinding for Gardenia right now, and I’ve only lost a Bidoof to a crit on a Youngster and my Geodude got hit with a crit from Mars’ Purugly, but everyone else has been going good so far!
@@kingoftrashopinions6633 in my opinion if you don't mind grinding it's better to nuzlocke that way, especially when it's one of your first nuzlockes on that game
Would be cool to have a Nuzlocke based on point totals on each tier. F can be 1 point each and S tier can be 5. You give yourself a certain amount of points and pick the encounters based on that. Not sure what a good point total would be but possibly 20-30. Would make interesting team building!
That would be cool but 30 is too much since you could just give yourself 6 5 point mons. I’d say 18 is ideal since you can get a team of 6 3 stars which are supposed to be the average
Porygon2 has a different purpose than Porygon-Z so I disagree with not placing it in the list. It is more bulky than Porygon-Z is and has Trace to help out with certain threats. Like if you Trace Motor Drive from the Electivire on Volkner's team you can nullify its electric attack for one time. I'd say that's pretty helpful.
10:35 Alakazam/Kadabra makes Lucian completely free because you can setup on M.Mime (his first pokemon in platinum) with Calm Mind + Recover (level up moves), especially because it will waste time setting up screens. Once light screen goes down, you can one shot everything with Shadow Ball (and if you don't, that doesn't even matter because you're at +6 in spe def)
@@stellarknight04 Thunderbolt crit does like 60% to Alakazam (because you are 6 levels higher thanks to level cap), so even double crit isn't likely to kill you because you have recover. You can also give Alakazam a cherri berry to prevent paralysis. Considering the fact that Mr. Mime will probably waste 2 turns setting up screens, I think you're safe unless Mr. Mime gets the 10% paralysis twice, but at this point you might as well throw your console by the window if that happens to you.
This has made me want to play Platinum again. Always a good game. I do have one argument for treating Porygon2 separately from Porygon-Z though; they are actually quite different. Porygon2 is much bulkier and even though Eviolite doesn't exist here, it does still get Recover. It also has Trace as an ability instead of Adaptability, which is pretty nice on a defensive Pokemon. Downside is it's pretty slow.

You‘re definitely on the right track encouraging people to nuzlocke! You inspired me to do a hardcore Nuzlocke of Pokémon X and right now I do my first Playthrough of Pokémon Sun as a hardcore Nuzlocke
11:12 also he has physical water moves now so this is the generation he fully came online as a pokemon, physical bite/crunch and physical waterfall/ice fang
I’d also like to say that Umbreon is the BEST counter to Mismagius in Fantinas gym. You have access to STAB Bite from Eevee, and it’s so specially bulky that’s there’s nothing mismagius can do to it
I remember in my first Platinum Nuzlocke, I make it to the Champion Cynthia with just three pokemon remaining. And Gallade and Froslass helped me win the battle. Gallade defeated Cynthia's Spiritomb (I know crazy right?), Lucario and Milotic. And Froslass defeated her Togekiss, Garchomp and Roserade. I'm really glad that I won the final battle without using the Giratina sitting in the back (yes it was my third pokemon).
Floatzel is 115 base speed whereas Mismagius is 105 base speed. You didn't need an investment in speed to outspeed it unless you have a lowering speed nature. Also he evolves just for the level cap
I don't really like availability affecting rankings in these tier lists, I'd mainly use them for when I have to replace a team member or do a rethink before a major battle, and at that point I think it's more useful to have a comparison of the usefulness of what encounters I did get, instead of it factoring in if I even got them.
Agree, I think it makes no sense to let encounter likelihood affect their ranking. I mean you're ranking how good a certain encounter it is, not how well you can plan to get it
I think it’s fair to consider that, like for example in HG/SS you can get Misdrevus either in cliff cave or the safari zone (but the safari zone is literal luck/depends on the save file.) It only has a 5% encounter but in cliff cave you can also get a guaranteed Steelix if you play your dupes clause/repel trick correctly. Going for a lv 20 misdrevus might screw you out of a good encounter of like steelix. Better yet, let’s take houndoom and murkrow that you cannot find until post game of hgss. Why bother using an A tier Pokémon like houndoom if you’re basically not going to be able to use it the majority of ur journey?
Only someone who cheats their encounters and lets them get whatever they want in said route, would complain about someone talking about how difficult it is to get a specific encounter and them considering that. Like yeah Snorlax and Spiritomb are great encounters, A tier at least for both, but how often are you ever getting those? It shouldn't be around mons that are almost guaranteed.
Togekiss deserves S tier in my opinion. High special attack and very bulky, especially with good EV investment. Also has a lot of useful utility moves and gets absurdly good type coverage in its TM moveset, which makes it extremely versatile and lets it cover a lot of roles in your team. Will almost never pass up the chance to have one on my team, especially in later gens when it gets fairy typing
Here's a small trick for Platinum Nuzlockes I don't think anyone else realizes (or, at least, nobody I watch does this): You can fish up your Magikarp in Twinleaf Town. You get your starter on Lake Verity or Route 201 in the Sinnoh games, guys, and Twinleaf has a pool just outside your house.
@@herhhetj5372 Just putting it out there. A lot of people I mention it to don't even realize they're missing that encounter. 218 is better suited for acquiring Floatzel or Gastrodon if you've missed Buizel or Shellos earlier and for farming a possible Munchlax Tree if you use Species Clause, but I personally value it for the possible Mr. Mime encounter for Baton Pass strategies.
I actually disagree with Piplup being a good mon for Roark in specific to Platinum (in BDSP it got buffed so that doesn't apply as well), only because Piplups movepool early on is absolute garbage (your best water move is 20BP Bubble, not even water gun), and Prinplup is a very so-so pokemon for the mid game (at least until you get bubblebeam), Empoleon on the other hand is an excellent pokemon, as it makes a lot of Team Galactic Fights much more manageable, especially with all the Normal/Dark/Poison moves being thrown around, not to mention it being a decent E4 pick to deal with Aaron's Drapion and Cynthia's Milotic/Spiritomb. At least you're more or less guaranteed to get either Geodude/Onyx (if not both if you got the Zubat Dupe before Oreburgh Gate) which makes Roark almost free with Rock Smash (by nature of them having high defence and resisting every move roark uses)
As psychic types are not really super useful in BDSP, Roserade with extrasensory was an amazing substitute for a psychic type. Also great for setting up toxic spikes and leech seed as well. Pretty versatile and it was a Pokemon I really liked using
Don't sleep on Glaceon, it is a really good pokemon in the very late game, which isn't too much of a delay considering you get it after the 7th gym. It has really good SPA, DEF, & SDEF with a high base stat total in general, so its ice moves hit like a truck and its pretty tanky. It's super effective against a lot of the pokemon you will encounter on Victory Road, training against Gravelers & Golbats will give you DEF & SPEED EVs. It completely bodies the first half of the elite four. Cynthia's Garchomp can't one shot it while an ice beam easily kills it being 4x super effective. It can also take out her Roserade & Togekiss.
Ice types are normally garbage, and remember these pokemon are good yea but flygon is ranking them through use, capability etc there's better pokemon than Glaceon so there's really no need to use it
The issue is that Glaceon just sucks. It's slow, has a bad movepool, and you get it super late into the game and thus miss almost all your STAB. It gets no Special STAB besides Icy Wind until Level 71. It's trash and difficult to use because of the movepool limitations.
Great video, definitely made me consider some Pokemon I previously didn't bother with in Platinum nuzlockes. The only thing I would outright disagree with is Quagsire not being in at least A tier since it learns Yawn (given how good sleep strats are in Gen 4), it only having one weakness (even if it is a 4x weakness), an immunity and access to STAB Earthquake via level up. With that in mind, a tip for anyone nuzlocking Platinum, if you wait until after you get surf you can guarantee Wooper as your Great Marsh encounter. This removes the risk of getting something like Carnivine as your encounter. Also worth mentioning that Houndoom learns Faint Attack via level up, which, since it can't miss, makes it an even better answer to Candice's Froslass. Also I don't think Mean Look prevents Roar from ending the battle when you encounter Houndour. Taunt is a safer way of blocking it imo (but I'm open to correction here) Also curious where you would rank Gabite since some people ban Garchomps from their runs?
Cool vid! Tier lists are always fun. Having run platinum a couple of times myself, I figured I'd throw a couple things out there. For what it's worth, if you sandbag Wingull's evolution until 47, it does learn air slash. That could be useful if for whatever reason you don't pick it up until Sunnyshore or something. It lets Pelipper do some more stuff against Aaron which is cool. Also, something that's cool about Raichu is that if you pick it up as a Pichu in trophy garden, you can get nasty plot with it. That alone makes it unique among electric types in that it can set up without having to wait until and rely on charge beam.
So I did Nuzlockes of Ruby and Leaf Green using Pokémon from the C and F tiers of your tier list videos about these games. I was a bit scared that there would be no way to do this with your Platinum video, but with Beautifly in F tier, maybe Roark will be possible. So I think once I'll be done with my Ultra Sun Banlocke, I'll give this challenge a go. The selection will be pretty interesting to play with, and I'll once again prove that Lickitung/Lickilicky aren't utterly terrible! Keep up the good content!
All the grass type slander makes me want to see a monotype grass nuzlocke of Platinum. Especially because imo grass types usually have really fun utility moves to work with and fun secondary typings.
Not Platinum, but in BD I had a Kricketune into a hardcore nuzlocke. He died before gym 4, but combined with silver powder, fury cutter was an absolute beast. His name was Phone, and he would sweep teams. My roomate and I had an in joke that his catchphrase "Ring ring ring, who's calling? Its death"
If you can get kriketune to gardenia, it will sweep her - I’ve done it both in platinum and BDSP. Fury cutters a way better move than you give it credit for specifically in that fight because turtwig is literally meant for set up, and it can usually outspeed anything else on her team.
gonna have to call out your placement of raichu. If you get it as a pichu, nasty plot and charm will allow for crazy set ups. Swept Cyrus with it. Maybe not S tier but definitely A tier.
A couple things I’d like to point out: the fact that you get a free Choice Specs in Celestic Town I think automatically makes all the fast special attackers better like Alakazam, Gengar, Jolteon, Houndoom, and Porygon-Z. Second, when I did my nuzlocke, I went through the effort and got Spiritomb for my route 209 encounter and it was actually incredible. It’s very bulky especially around the point you get it, it’s good into Maylene, has sucker punch, is great into Lucian, and had a lot of overall nice utility as a pivot.

Piplup isn't that good on Roark in Platinum. It generally 3HKO Cranidos after Roark uses a potion, but Piplup is slower and gets 3HKO-ed itself by Cranidos so unless it crits, it's very difficult to clear the gym with nothing but a piplup
keep up the good work, just did a nuzelock of platinum and it went well until Cynthia... wiped to her, she's tough. my rhydon was able to tank a stab super effective earthquake from garchomp and ohko with avalanche, idk if my rhydon was just good or if that's a legit strategy but hope it helps someone.

Hey flygon, before this vid came out, I’ve struggled with doing a platinum nuzlocke for TWO years, that’s two whole years of constant failures at fantina and endless Cyrus sweeps and making stupid mistakes because I refused to use stat boosting moves. But since this video came out, i finally beat my first nuzlocke ever and it was on the very first Pokémon game I’ve ever owned! It was a pretty lucky run honestly, came across a female combee, heracross and a burmy on my honey tree encounters, not to mention starting with an adamant infernape which was also a female, which are some crazy ass chances😂 Thanks flygon, you’re a super cool and knowledgeable guy! Keep doing awesome nuzlockes man! 🙂 If anyone wants to know my team: Arson the infernape- Machpunch, fire punch, close combat, U-turn Sheila the Gyarados: dragon dance, waterfall, payback, avalanche Pecks the staraptor: brave bird, U-turn, fly, roost Anion the jolteon: thunderbolt, thunder wave, charge bean, shadow ball Chocula the gliscor: earthquake, U-turn, swords dance, ice fang, Salad Ass the gardevoir: protect, leech seed, giga drain, and sludge bomb Thanks flygon❤
Confession: I had a perfectly good Crobat and still took an Ambipom to the Elite Four for emotional reasons. He was an HM mule, Pickup mon and general mascot turned into “real” encounter. He had a Jolly nature and I just really enjoyed using him. But at the time, I wasn’t using hardcore rules and was able to heal in battle. It was my first Nuzlocke and I was more concerned with “is three too many Flying types?” than I was with “oh right, Crobat is significantly better than Ambipom in every conceivable way.” But regardless, I had a lot of fun using Loki as a U-Turn pivot and fast lead. He had Return, U-Turn, Shadow Claw and Dig. I guess he was better into Lucian than Crobat would’ve been - but he still wasn’t really that good. Oh well. Hats off to you, Loki the Ambipom. You were a lot of fun.
In my SoulSilver nuzlocke, my Headbutt Ambipom was used to Nasty Plot and then Baton Pass into Tentacruel to Sludge Bomb Clair. Not Platinum, I know, but it’s still cool.
Going forward, it would probably be better to rate mons on their own performance rather than if some other encounter outclasses them (even when said encounter is guaranteed). We all know Gyarados is a better DD sweeper than Altaria, but that doesnt tell us anything about how realistic your chances are, and also doesnt account for the possibility your Gyarados could be chilling in the dead box by the time you encounter Swablu. Also I understand there's a huge opportunity cost for Snorlax and to a lesser extent Heracross, since you probably have to sacrifice a ton of encounters if you're trying to get them, but punishing these mons for this makes it hard to gauge their actual value to a team should you be lucky enough to have them. Of course this mostly matters when youre only looking at the list at a glance as opposed to listening to the whole vid.
Surprised to see Houndoom so high up as in casual playthroughs that poor dog seems to come up short all the time for me, it would get outsped when I was not expecting it to be, fail to kill things I needed it to and then proceed to get blown back by non-stab attacks. I guess that this happens less in a 'hardcore' nuzlocke where everyone sets their levels unreasonably high during the mid to lategame (the game was definitely not balanced around you having a team of 6 level 37s when you fight Wake for example, or the Elite 4 in general). But even then, I feel like all it takes is a -SptAtk or -Spd and you can kiss this thing goodbye as it dies to some ace trainer. As for Candice being the toughest gym leader, I feel like a faint attack sneasel dispatches of Froslass easily enough. Don't know the ins and outs of the AI entirely, but I assume any bulky water will bait Froslass into going for a move that isnt blizzard as you switch Sneasel in.
gastrodon should be A and i know scizor does not get access to every single thing that makes it broken, but only being weak to fire in a game with like 3 fire types is a huger boon, so it should be S.
Love the vid. I have to ask one question though, there's no way Luxray is better than Gengar or Alakazam right? Its movepool is so ass and it's not fast enough. I would much rather a Gengar around, just to give an example
Intimidate. Something having it helps its viability. But of course it's a 50 50 chance. It does also have a sole typing weakness which helps. Gengar and Alakazam may not be obtainable if trade evolutions aren't possible for you or if playing a rom, you haven't enabled otherwise impossible evolutions.
Dusknoir's typically not available in a nuzlocke of Platinum since reaper cloth is locked to postgame, wasn't sure if you knew that or not since it wasn't mentioned
Also as a tip catch Magikarp in twinleaf town not the route where you get the old rod that way you can catch a Pokémon on the other side where canalava is, gives you an extra Encounter
I completely agree with the list but I definitely think Lopunny and Onix got too much credit. I tried Lopunny once, much worse than Ambipom. No reason to use it prior to gen 6. Onix, the reason for not being F tier is solid but being a check into a single Pokémon probably doesn’t grant it mid C tier above other Pokémon that are at least slightly viable throughout the game. Love the video though and a very solid and thorough list that I’ll definitely be going off of
In my first nuzlocke witch was in platinum I lost my Luxray to Candice's Frosslas so I decided to replaced it with an ice type for garchomp, so I took glaceon and it was an MVP, he survive an atack from garchomp and then one shot it, even manage to do some damage to the milotic. And let me add that he didnt have evs bc i didnt know about evs back then. So proud of my glaceon, since that day I change my mind about thinking is the worst eeveelution.
I’m a child and you said my favorite Pokémon, Gallade, is good so I like this list Also, it would probably be a good idea to hide your webcam at the end (1:00:01) so they aren’t blocking any of the Pokémon when you do your final sweep. Great video!
Absol in B? I'll take it. I was so sad how badly Absol was screwed by it's typing since Dark moves where considered special but Absol had amazing attack stat. Then DP came with the physical/special split so I caught an Absol (Shiny too) and took her with me to E4 and Cynthia. One Baton Pass later and Absol just crit her way through Cynthia's team.
As a Rampardos fan, I think he is rather underrated. He can be extremely useful if you give him some speed EVs. His movepool isn't as bad as it seems. Early game it's not great but late game with TMs its amazing. You can use shards to teach him thunder/fire punch, he can learn earthquake and abuse molt breaker to beat any levitating pokemon like broznongs and bronzors. You can even dip into the special side of Rampardos and use fire blast, thunderbolt/thunder or blizzard/ice beam. Head smash is a disgustingly powerful move, it can be used as a semi suicide move and deal a ton of damage on something if you have no use left for it. I'm not gonna name every threat it's useful into but I just want to say it's rather underrated in a DPP nuzlocke.
It's just so frail and still slow. Head Smash sort of being its signature move as it learns it naturally should be screaming for having the Rock Head ability though.
I have to argue one thing: Drifblim is S tier. I've seen this thing carry so many Nuzlockes. Ridiculous bulk (even before evolution) combined with three immunities to very common types trivializes so many fights, and it has enough attack to make use of Fly for its secondary STAB if you really need the coverage (most of the time you'll just teach it Thunderbolt for coverage instead). Finally, it can Baton Pass some of the chonkiest Substitutes out there alongside Stockpile boosts, giving you a safeguard against crits while your other Pokémon sets up.
finally i can do a platinum nuzlocke!!!! thank you for doing this video!!! your emerald one really was so helpful for my nuzlocke of that one! I’d love to see your rankings for other regions too!!!
To think this came a few days after I finished my Platinum Nuzlocke... It is great to see that most of my picks I used for E4/Champion are really good, and they really are. My team was Infernape - Crobat - Garchomp - Weavile - Tentacruel - Dusknoir (Although I used a bunch other mons in my run like Scizor, Staraptor and such, even some perished but I mostly used high tier mons in the list because I also enjoyed using them a lot) But I felt a little bit sad when you put Espeon and Glaceon into low tier because those two are my most favourite Eeveelutions. (But not gonna lie, their movesets are so mid in Gen 4, but in later gens they're done better so I hope they'll be in higher tiers in future tier lists)
Pachirisu actually helped my run one time, my only viable strat that run was to charm down the valley windworks Purugly to -6 haha. Still F tier though, lived in my box for the rest of the run (:

I recently completed my first nuzlocke in platinum, I made a couple of early mistakes that ended up really hurting in the long run. I chose Piplup as my starter because it was my favorite, although Chimchar is the better choice. It didn't really matter either way since I lost my starter to the first gym to a critical Pursuit when I tried to switch them out. The second mistake was losing my Luxio to commander Mars after a critical Scratch from her Purugly. I didn't find another electric type until victory road. Ended up losing that nuzlock to a critical Dragon Rage from Cynthia's Garchomp. It was a one hit to my Gastrodon who was my only real answer to it. All in all though it was a ton of fun.
25:24 - My old-school RUclips self says THANK YOU. I get it, sponsorships are needed to make part of your living, but I've always detested that part of YT as soon as it became a thing :D
@@Cardb33 Tentacruel is often brought to the E4 to sweep Bertha and Flint. It's just funny Floatzel gets overlooked because it does the same thing but better. I think Tenta is still slightly better than Floatzel in general, but Poison typing isn't as beneficial pre-Fairy.

So a Platinum Trashlocke?
Its just sad that Honchkrow and Mismagius aren't available in Platinum...
Would throw Skuntank in there too. That thing is a beast
I guess this is the price you have to pay for being able to get Gliscor before Iron Island/After elite 4.
Honchkrow is one of those pokemon that I always want to try out, but either can never get or get something better in my playthroughs
:( it's so saddddddddd
I remember taking my Kricketune all the way to Cynthia on a Diamond nuzlocke and cheesing her last pokemon with Perish Song
Cap.
Mismagius resists X-scissor.

Thats probably not a fun way to get it, you have 10% for bronzor and then 5% of bronzor hild a metal coat. (.5% chance per wild encounter, --> around 140 total encounters for a 50% chance of getting it)
So definitely possible but probably not worth the effort just for Jupiter unless you genuinely need a Steelix for her. (As right after her you get a bike and the encounter rate for bronzor jumps to 30% in wayward cave under the cycling road. I believe this is the best early metal coat location.)

“Hardcore nuzlockes for a living” is so insane to say I be doing them instead of studying
21:33 “No-one’s gonna be offended by me putting Ambipom in C tier, right?”
I am offended.
(Side note I didn’t switch out because this was the 2nd time this situation had happened.)
I was out of patience and just said outloud “if you miss you deserve it.”
Ambipom missed and died, and I slept like a baby.
I disagree. It's a monster in HGSS E4 especially if you pair it with a Girafarig.
the most frustrating thing is when i have versed against ambipom it always does so much damage, the thing is dogsh*t when the player uses it but as soon as the opponent uses it, it becomes a menace.;
Damn, sounds like you kinda just suck, and clearly didn't even look up its moveset before commenting. Be better.
Houndoom is by far the best counter to Candice's Froslass. Fire/Dark walls her entire moveset and it gets Odor Sleuth to completely negate Snow Cloak and Double Team
Also faint attack.
@@mrpiccionedivino5598 its a fantastic pokemon in platinum, we have seen how op fire/dark can be in the later gens with incineroar.
Clearly youve never heard of australia's failed war against the emus if you think this
U say close combats odd for a bird to learn but I think staraptor would beat the shit out of anyone trying to start a fight
@@chefgreasypaw7816 it definitely could but it’s just funny to think of a bird beating someone up like that
I'd also like to point out that Gallade can also learn Elemental Punches.
Sure you have to find some shards but it's really cool that he's such a versatile pokemon.
(You can also teach him brick break from the tm you can find at Oreburgh Gate 2nd floor).
gallade saved my ass in my first attempt
You can easily farm shards using the underground.
Step 1: go down there the first time
Step 2: dig up a bunch of spheres
Step 3: bury them all in rows next to each other
Step 4: wait 12 hours
Step 5: go back down where you buried the spheres, a bunch of dig spots will spawn
Hack in rare candies if you can. Grinding is stupid, just play with level caps lmao
Playing on a physical copy lol, besides the grinding gives me time to binge FlygonHG videos

Yeah they’re different just like Scyther and Scizor are.
Lack of resistances hurt it a bit but being able to mimic absorption abilities is great.
Critical hits and Thunderbolt Paralysis: hippity hoppity you're now property
@@stellarknight04 Thunderbolt crit does like 60% to Alakazam (because you are 6 levels higher thanks to level cap), so even double crit isn't likely to kill you because you have recover. You can also give Alakazam a cherri berry to prevent paralysis. Considering the fact that Mr. Mime will probably waste 2 turns setting up screens, I think you're safe unless Mr. Mime gets the 10% paralysis twice, but at this point you might as well throw your console by the window if that happens to you.
@@pikafeu I should mention that only Alakazam can learn Calm Mind by level-up, and the TM isn’t available in the main game.
@@pikafeu It might matter for Bronzong since it knows two physical moves.

You're the unsung hero of this video.
You‘re definitely on the right track encouraging people to nuzlocke! You inspired me to do a hardcore Nuzlocke of Pokémon X and right now I do my first Playthrough of Pokémon Sun as a hardcore Nuzlocke
"psychic types just aren't that good in this game" me halfway into my psychic monotype run of platinum like 👁👄👁
11:12 also he has physical water moves now so this is the generation he fully came online as a pokemon, physical bite/crunch and physical waterfall/ice fang
I’d also like to say that Umbreon is the BEST counter to Mismagius in Fantinas gym. You have access to STAB Bite from Eevee, and it’s so specially bulky that’s there’s nothing mismagius can do to it
Mismagius' only way past it in general is Hidden Power Fighting and the AI don't run specialized Hidden Powers.
Whatever you do-do NOT look up umbreon’s movepool.
I love these insightful ranking videos from WisegonHG. Keep them coming!
You know what would be a great series to follow these up? Ranking types for mono-types on any given region/game.
I'm so happy to hear that Candice is the hardest Sinnoh Gym Leader. My first ever battle with her was one of the most fun battles I've ever had.
Surprised Candice is supposed to be the hardest Sinnoh Gym Leader considering 2/3 starters completely rip through her team.
I started a Platinum nuzlocke just a few days ago so the timing of this is just *chef’s kiss*
It is worth mentioning that thanks to vs seeker, game corner tms are pretty accessible right off of the bat
Thanks to your videos i started nuzlocking, and these videos ranking encounters help alot! Thank you for doing amazing videos

Ok? But what's the point?

Pretty versatile and it was a Pokemon I really liked using
I'm happy to see some jolteon and scyther and tentacruel praise. I used them once in fire red and can't stop using them in other games
This is perfect timing, I just started my second attempt of Platinum after losing my last one to Cynthia’s last two Pokémon. Thanks for the tips!
Taunt is a safer way of blocking it imo (but I'm open to correction here)
Also curious where you would rank Gabite since some people ban Garchomps from their runs?
Mean look prevents the opponent from escaping. It does NOT prevent your pokemon from fleeing. Which is how roar works.
@@slademmxii8759 That's what I was thinking alright, thanks for confirming 👌
Boy ain't nobody in the world going out of their way to guarantee a Wooper encounter, especially if they gotta wait to even guarantee it.
Keep up the good content!
one thing i love about weavile is that even as sneasel it mops candice's froslass bc of its decent enough spdef, high attack, and faint attack
Caught a shiny in my nuzlocke while watching this video, thanks for the good luck charm
Its death"
Platinum hardcore nuzlocke with the C and F tier Pokémon when?
If you can get kriketune to gardenia, it will sweep her - I’ve done it both in platinum and BDSP. Fury cutters a way better move than you give it credit for specifically in that fight because turtwig is literally meant for set up, and it can usually outspeed anything else on her team.
Great video! Hope to see a bw2 tier list in the future!
gonna have to call out your placement of raichu.
Chatot is actually S tier because it can say fuck

Piplup isn't that good on Roark in Platinum. It generally 3HKO Cranidos after Roark uses a potion, but Piplup is slower and gets 3HKO-ed itself by Cranidos so unless it crits, it's very difficult to clear the gym with nothing but a piplup

Sheila the Gyarados: dragon dance, waterfall, payback, avalanche
Pecks the staraptor: brave bird, U-turn, fly, roost
Anion the jolteon: thunderbolt, thunder wave, charge bean, shadow ball
Chocula the gliscor: earthquake, U-turn, swords dance, ice fang,
Salad Ass the gardevoir: protect, leech seed, giga drain, and sludge bomb

Confession: I had a perfectly good Crobat and still took an Ambipom to the Elite Four for emotional reasons. He was an HM mule, Pickup mon and general mascot turned into “real” encounter. He had a Jolly nature and I just really enjoyed using him.
But at the time, I wasn’t using hardcore rules and was able to heal in battle. It was my first Nuzlocke and I was more concerned with “is three too many Flying types?” than I was with “oh right, Crobat is significantly better than Ambipom in every conceivable way.”
But regardless, I had a lot of fun using Loki as a U-Turn pivot and fast lead. He had Return, U-Turn, Shadow Claw and Dig. I guess he was better into Lucian than Crobat would’ve been - but he still wasn’t really that good.
Oh well. Hats off to you, Loki the Ambipom. You were a lot of fun.
Keep in mind half a Cynthia's team is weak to ice.
In my SoulSilver nuzlocke, my Headbutt Ambipom was used to Nasty Plot and then Baton Pass into Tentacruel to Sludge Bomb Clair. Not Platinum, I know, but it’s still cool.
Ambipom is amazing on hgss
0:30 you have absolutely encouraged me to start nuzlockes. I’ve never finished though
if I remember correctly, you can catch steelix in Platinum.
Yes, at Iron Island.
You've improved greatly at making tier lists, and this one is by far your best.
swalot is s tier
Time for a Platinum snaplocke with only the C and F tier Pokémon included in this list :D
I already used my earthquake tm on garchomp so what should I do with my gliscore??
Don't know the ins and outs of the AI entirely, but I assume any bulky water will bait Froslass into going for a move that isnt blizzard as you switch Sneasel in.
gastrodon should be A and i know scizor does not get access to every single thing that makes it broken, but only being weak to fire in a game with like 3 fire types is a huger boon, so it should be S.
your vids did actually kick off a nuzlocking spree for me, so thank you!
Wiscash didn't learn Dragon Dance in this gen? Cause if it does, it's definitely not a C tier pokemon, at least a mid B.
I love Octillery so it's very sad to see it down in C tier. It's got a fantastic movepool and it can really dish out damage but it's just so slow...
It's frail too.
Dusknoir's typically not available in a nuzlocke of Platinum since reaper cloth is locked to postgame, wasn't sure if you knew that or not since it wasn't mentioned
You can actually get a reaper cloth at the northernmost lake next to Snowpoint, but you have to beat the gym first so you can rock climb up to it
Also as a tip catch Magikarp in twinleaf town not the route where you get the old rod that way you can catch a Pokémon on the other side where canalava is, gives you an extra Encounter
Bro nice, I’ve been waiting for this one ☝️
I completely agree with the list but I definitely think Lopunny and Onix got too much credit. I tried Lopunny once, much worse than Ambipom. No reason to use it prior to gen 6. Onix, the reason for not being F tier is solid but being a check into a single Pokémon probably doesn’t grant it mid C tier above other Pokémon that are at least slightly viable throughout the game. Love the video though and a very solid and thorough list that I’ll definitely be going off of
The Vespiquen "Bee tier" pun may seem like it flopped but I live for jokes like that so please never stop them
In my first nuzlocke witch was in platinum I lost my Luxray to Candice's Frosslas so I decided to replaced it with an ice type for garchomp, so I took glaceon and it was an MVP, he survive an atack from garchomp and then one shot it, even manage to do some damage to the milotic. And let me add that he didnt have evs bc i didnt know about evs back then. So proud of my glaceon, since that day I change my mind about thinking is the worst eeveelution.
The Spiritomb explanation was so witty it somehow doesn't cut anywhere near as much as it should. I laughed so much I was only left with a graze
I’m a child and you said my favorite Pokémon, Gallade, is good so I like this list
Also, it would probably be a good idea to hide your webcam at the end (1:00:01) so they aren’t blocking any of the Pokémon when you do your final sweep. Great video!
I really wish Heracross was easier to get. It's my favourite pokemon and it's so hard to find in like every game.
Now Hardcore Nuzlocke with only F-Type Pokemon!!! :D

@@ShiningJudgment666 indeed he is slow but he is definitely useful in some matchups and wouldn’t say he’s outright terrible
I dare you to do a FlygonHG Platinum Tier List Nuzlocke using only C/F tier pokemon

You can’t even fish for Feebas in Mt. Coronet because you need the Super Rod which is postgame, so.
To think this came a few days after I finished my Platinum Nuzlocke... It is great to see that most of my picks I used for E4/Champion are really good, and they really are.
My team was Infernape - Crobat - Garchomp - Weavile - Tentacruel - Dusknoir (Although I used a bunch other mons in my run like Scizor, Staraptor and such, even some perished but I mostly used high tier mons in the list because I also enjoyed using them a lot)
But I felt a little bit sad when you put Espeon and Glaceon into low tier because those two are my most favourite Eeveelutions.
Congratulations 🏆

Friendly and informative as always. Thank you
I recently completed my first nuzlocke in platinum, I made a couple of early mistakes that ended up really hurting in the long run.
What's everyone's favorite Sinnoh starter? And favorite new to gen 4 pokemon at all?
My favorite is empolion
My Favourite is Infernape
Team Monke! (Because as Flygon said, there're almost no good fire types and ice is a theme in Sinnoh)
Torterra is better.
Good list!
Do another Tier list with the Unova games! :)
16:42 the disrespect on Air France from the flying only platinum, I was expecting at least c tier not F
25:24 - My old-school RUclips self says THANK YOU. I get it, sponsorships are needed to make part of your living, but I've always detested that part of YT as soon as it became a thing :D
Very helpful. Thanks for making this!
Tentacruel is thought of much more highly than Floatzel by most. But Floatzel is faster and, more surprisingly, has higher special attack.
Typing and bulk that Tentacruel has more than makes up for the speed and minor increase in Sp. Atk that Floatzel has.
Machoke is just looking back and forth like “omg, nobody spoil this for me…”
