    I had six boys. They're now 26 to 15, including a set of twins. You'll get it and go with what baby tells you. I nursed mine all the time for at least a year, but it was easy for me. You can never love a baby too much. Trust your instincts and medical knowledge in your cases. Don't overthink it. Each baby is who they are and will need different things. Enjoy their tinyness; it goes by way too fast.

    I have never ever heard anyone suggest just putting the baby down and letting them cry for 5 minutes while you recoup. That is the best advice on the planet, I'm so happy this was mentioned. I think sometimes people just need a second, just in that moment, to relax and breath and get themselves together before they lose it. Thank you so much for this suggestion. I think it will be a life saver for me when I decide to start my family. Sometimes you just need to breathe and being told it's ok to just set them down for a minute in a safe place while you just collect yourself is such a simple thing that definitely needs to be said.

    • @killuaxkillua2384
      @killuaxkillua2384 Год назад +30

      This is my advice for my friends as they consider having children. If you’re noticing you’re losing control of your own emotions, if you’re feeling extremely frustrated and just need a moment, put the baby down in a safe place like their crib, and walk away for a moment. Breathe and calm down, take a few sips of your maybe lukewarm coffee and come back. Baby will be okay and you’re taking note of your own emotional state in order to keep you both healthy. It has to be talked about more!

    • @eileen58
      @eileen58 10 месяцев назад +6

      @@whoknows322 Well yeah, you’re just meant to put them down to collect yourself so you don’t get so frustrated that you end up doing something you can’t take back, either to yourself or the baby. If you find you’re setting them down more often than holding them and things are too overwhelming most of the time, it definitely could be postpartum depression or it could just be exhaustion and you need a real break. My family has just begun, we haven’t hit the 2 week purple crying phase yet, I don’t imagine I’ll have to use this, but I certainly will if necessary. I have help right now, but my husband has to go back to work sometime.

      One of my friends told me that there’s no shame in wearing earplugs. So I wear them! Even to bed. They’re not good enough to cover baby’s cries, but they cover the little coos and make the cries not as awful to hear. Anything that allows you to safely and properly care for your child while maintaining sanity is a win!

    Just in case anyone is worried about this: your doctor will not take away your baby if you tell them you might have post partum depression. You calling and asking for help is a sign you are a *good* mother, because taking care of mom = taking care of baby. Your doctors won't judge you, they will be happy they can help you.

    Another thing about the car seat. Check with your local firestation. If they have a certified person on their staff they can often do a car seat check to make sure it's secured properly and to ensure the baby has the correct seat for their size (meaning you can get checked again as the baby grows)

    It's also alright to deny a lot of visitors in the first few weeks, if you don't want them to come.
    Take your time, the health of the mom, the baby and their bonding are paramount. 🙂👍
    If they persist, send them a couple of photos and a date in the future where you might be fine with a visit. Also, anybody who come to visit in the first few months should bring food for themselves and for the family. They shouldn't expect to be catered or entertained in any way, duh. 🤪

    Questions:
    Carseats:
    1. If you get a hand-me-down infant carseat (the kind that is not convertible, clicks into your stroller, and is only usable for baby's first 5-6 mos) from someone who got it brand new in the last 2-3 years, is that okay to use as long as it is not past its manufacturer expiration date? Asking because carseats are one of the pricier newborn items (for good reason) and an expense that some new parents may need to weigh in relation to other baby necessities. So getting a good condition, non-expired, infant seat second hand might give a little breathing room to cash strapped parents who could use a little time to save up for a convertible infant-to-toddler size seat.
    2. What if you don't drive or have a car? Like, you're literally going to walk out of the hospital directly to public transit to take your baby home? Still can't leave the hospital without a carseat?? This has been very different (in my experience) from country to country. For example, in many Asian countries its expected that most people will use public transit and carseats are not required by law when riding in taxis, so they're more of a suggestion than a necessity (unless you do have your own car, which is not so common in most places in Japan or HK, for instance). What say you?
    Safe Sleep: What about babies that bedshare? Can you please outline the Safe Sleep Seven & give guidance on Safe bedsharing practices? Even parents who have no intention of bedsharing will inevitably bring their baby into their bed for a nighttime feed & then fall asleep: or fall asleep feeding/holding baby in a chair or in the sofa. What can parents do to set up a safe shared sleeping environment to be prepared for the event that they may unintentionally fall asleep with baby in their bed or in their arms elsewhere?

    Sleep is the key. How much time should the baby sleep depending on the age. Child should sleep daily:
    Newborn babies up to 20 hours
    If they are 0-12 months - 15-18 hours
    1-3 years - 12-14 hours
    3-6 years - 11-12 hours
    6-12 years - 10-11 hours
    8-9 hours - over 12 (some children need a lot more sleep during adolescence)
    Healthy sleep is most important either for Children and adults to function normally. While children are asleep they improve their memory and remember more what they learned during the day. They process information and emotions. Healthy sleep has regenerative benefits and reduces the risk of overweight and obesity.

    From a developmental pov, what's best for the baby to sleep in: a swaddle (keeping arms tight) or a sleeping bag (allows movement of all body parts without scratches) ?

    • @saramations
      @saramations Год назад

      There isn't an exact answer because some babes just don't like a certain way. But the idea to swaddle your newborn with the arms close to the body to reduce startle reflex so the newborn is less likely to wake up.

    Definitely disappointed in your stance on vaccines, but I still appreciate your channel! On that note, can you provide a list of all of the ingredients in all of the vaccines you are saying are absolutely necessary? Along with that, the information from the CDC website about how toxic and dangerous most of those ingredients are. At least that way the parents watching this can know the dangers of vaccines along with the fact that you recommend them and they can make an informed decision based on the ingredients and not just that two doctors along with others recommend them. Thanks!

      You'd still need a car seat, the hospital will ask to see it if you're getting home via a vehicle, some hospitals will check it's not expired too. Could you ask a friend to borrow theirs?

    "The most important rule for care of the intact penis is to never forcibly retract the foreskin. Forcible retraction means having to overcome resistance to retract the foreskin. There is never a medical indication for forceful retraction - not for examination, not for catheterization, not to check for nor to ‘help’ with retractability. To do so can lead to serious harm.
    To understand correct care of the foreskin (prepuce), it is necessary to understand the normal development of the intact penis.
    As the prepuce develops in utero, the inner foreskin and the glans share a common cell layer, termed the balano-preputial lamina, which firmly attaches the inner foreskin to the glans. Fusion of the inner prepuce to the glans is the normal state at birth and during the early years of life. Additionally, the outlet of the foreskin is naturally non-elastic in childhood. The tight, fused foreskin protects the infant’s glans and urinary opening during the diaper years. It is inappropriate to characterize the balano-preputial attachment as ‘adhesions,’ or to diagnose this normal state of non-retractability as ‘phimosis,’ both of which terms incorrectly imply pathology (thus putting the child at risk for unnecessary interventions).
    As the intact penis develops, two processes occur naturally, over a variable period of time, by which the foreskin eventually becomes retractile: the separation of the inner foreskin from the glans, and the loosening of the foreskin’s opening.
    The assertion that most intact boys are (or should be) retractable by age 3 or age 5 is commonly found in the medical literature. This information is incorrect and has, unfortunately, been the basis for a great deal of erroneous advice and unnecessary treatment to this day. It comes from a study published nearly 70 years ago by British pediatrician Douglas Gairdner. At that time, it was believed, incorrectly, that the foreskin should be retractable within days after birth. Because a non-retractable foreskin was then also thought to be a source of a multitude of problems, young English boys were commonly subjected to dilating procedures and forced retraction by physicians, and parents were advised to forcibly retract the foreskin.
    In the late 1940s, Gairdner examined 300 intact English boys from birth to 5 years of age, and found that only 50% were fully retractable by age 1, but that by age 3, 90% were fully retractable, and 92% by age 5. Gairdner’s study showed that it was normal for babies not to be retractable, and made the case for eliminating unnecessary interventions and circumcisions in young children based on the previous misunderstandings. However, because the study was done on a population likely to have been subjected to premature forced retraction, the ages found for retractability were almost certainly abnormally early. Nevertheless - and despite the fact that Gairdner’s results have never been duplicated - these numbers entered into the medical literature as the definitive information on the normal age of retractability. Thus a new (and again falsely early) ‘deadline’ for retractability was set at 3-5 years, with the implication that those not retractable by such an age were in need of medical attention, a notion that persists even into the 21st century.
    Since 1968, multiple studies (from countries where retraction by parents or medical professionals is not performed, and tracking development over a longer period of time) have found a much later age distribution of retractability. These studies have found the average age at full retractability to be about age 10, that is, half of all boys fully retractable by 10, half not yet so. They also show that the vast majority of intact boys become fully retractable by the end of adolescence, without any need for outside intervention (no need for parents to “push it back a little every day” to “help” it become retractable), and with no negative hygienic consequences. One study suggests that the processes leading to retractability may continue into early adulthood. Many modern medical texts and journal articles have yet to adequately acknowledge these findings, however, and still cite Gairdner’s 3 to 5 year data (or even earlier) as the expected norm."
    -Doctors Opposing Circumcision
    “The only thing you need to care for an intact boy is a ruler to smack the hand of anyone who tries to retract him.”
    Allen L. Neese, M.D.

      This couple has been taught outdated, false information about the average age that a foreskin will naturally separate from the glans. Such misinformed advice will lead parents to inadvertently harm their children. The only person that should retract a boy's foreskin is the boy himself when the foreskin is ready to be retracted. Telling parents that their son should be fully retractable by the age of 2 is recklessly ignorant.
      In other words: DOCS LEARN BAD THING. DOCS SAY BAD THING. BAD THING HURT KIDS. LEARN BETTER THINGS. NO HURT KIDS.
