I wish someone had told me that an overly sleepy baby (falls asleep during feeding within a few minutes, hard to wake up to continue eating, sleeps long stretches from the beginning, doesn't cry a lot) is a sign of low breastmilk supply. It would have saved me weeks of worry and almost starving my baby to death. Thank goodness for formula.
Our baby was born on the smaller side (2600g, not sure how much that is in the imperial system), he was formula fed and we also got a scales for him to check his weight every week. Knowing how much he was eating and the weight he gained was such a relief and helped me be less anxious in those first months. Normally in Germany the weight check is done by the midwife, (if you are lucky to find one available) they come to visit almost every day for those 1-2 weeks postpartum and then every couple of days or weekly till 6-8 weeks postpartum. For breastfed babies the midwives here don’t recommend getting baby scales and weigh them too often as it only increases the anxiety for the new parents and try to rely on the number of wet/💩 diapers and the feeding time.

I breastfed both my boys until age 2. They are now aged 2 and a half and nearly 6 yrs old. I remember my milk came in 2-3 days after the births and my first born had tongue tie and i had trouble latching him on properly, which caused me to get a cracked n bleeding nipple on one side. I finally healed properly by pumping my sore side and feeding him on my good side and breastfeeding got easier after 2 weeks. I would listen and follow my babies cues when they would have enough to eat; pulling off the breast and feeling relaxed, content and sleepy from a feed. And i knew they got enough milk by taking note of how many wet nappies there were over 24 hours. I did seek medical advice on my son's tongue tie which was not picked up straight away after he was born. A doctor told me the tie was mild and he didn't think it needed the snip. He was right, as my son got bigger he just got better at latching properly and his weight gain was good.
I’m watching this at 4:35AM whiling nursing my 5 week old. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information! You all are absolutely amazing! I’m going to be a first time mother and I have watched several of your videos. You all are so informative and so sweet. Love the energy and the information. Thank you thank you thank you!!
My baby came out the womb taking 2oz per feed (I had to give him formula after my c-section). He's 6 weeks now and I officially gave up breastfeeding. I had complications after my c-section and was too tired to try to pump every 2 hrs and my baby wasn't latching. I tried a lactation consultant and she was extremely condescending so I was just over it. My milk has depleted so much and I hate it because I planned to breastfeed for up to a year.
I have had the exact Same experience at the hospital and gave birth just a week ago. I’m here for some advice. I’m sorry you had to go through that experience at the hospital, it’s crazy how condescending they are.
Same here! Sadly some of the labor and delivery nurses, and hospitalist are condensending, passive agressive and worse, some of them didn't have proper experience, knowledge and didn't know what exactly they're talking about. Nurses/corps men/women told me with my first birth that I had to breast feed 30 minutes each breast. After 2 days of pitocin induction, they finally had mercy and decided to end my pain. So I had a c-section, my son had a lip tie (non of them noticed it!), I was in terrible pain coz my son's latch was shallow and all they could say was "that's normal". The pain was to the point that I was shaking already and only the Narcotic pain killer for c-section was the thing that kept me from doing the impossibly painful breastfeeding for a bit. One of the passive aggressive nurse there was also literally pinching my breast (not massaging, but pinching), pulling them to my son's mouth (instead of baby to breast). None of those hospital people taught me how to properly pump as well. I felt harassed, embarrassed & helpless. All of my knowledge about breastfeeding came from me researching online. I was so turned off by breastfeeding that when my second baby came, even if I already know how to do it properly, I couldn't bring my self to do it. I just pumped for a few months, then supplement. Both of my kids are healthy, happy and most especially, they have a sane mother.
@@hannahtopa sending you so much love and hugs. Please know your mental health is so much more important. Disregard the noise around you. Your baby needs you to be happy first. My baby is now 1 month old and I’m at a much better mental state as I’m combined feeding (pumping and formula). My baby just would not latch and I went through hell and back trying and crying and feeling terrible as they made such horrible comments at me. I go back to work in a few months so I need to exclusively switch to formula then anyway. You got this mama!
My baby has a 100% tongue tie so couldn't latch but we have managed to put on weight! Woo! 🙌 💪 She is 2 weeks old and hardly ever cries for food, her feeding cues are so clear! She munches her hands and wiggles her head ♥ currently waiting for her tie to be snipped
I just had a baby about a week ago and both my midwife and her pediatrician checked her and confirmed a lip tie. I would just make sure your child’s dr looks at it. Some things they said to look out for are a pointed nipple after feeding, feeling pain during the whole feeding and not just at the start, if baby is making loud suction sounds (like the seal is being broken) Hope that gives you a little peace of mind mama!
Yes please do a video on tongue / lip tie. My son has tongue tie and makes loud sounds when he drinks and has trouble latching. I have to pump and bottle feed him but he is feeding well. Would like to know the expected complications of tongue-tied babies and treatment options for them in the future. Thank you.
My daughter had a tongue and lip tie. It made breastfeeding very painful. Our pediatrician found it at the first appointment and referred us to a pediatric dentist. A laser frenectomy was performed and after a few weeks, breastfeeding was no longer painful and a lot of her symptoms went away.
I just had my daughters tongue tie fixed !! We’re 3 days out and breastfeeding is already so much easier for us and she’s less fussy (minus some obvious discomfort) but we’re happy we did the revision. It was a little painful for both of us day 1-2 but day 3 has been suddenly very easy & latching has been a lot easier. She’s 4 weeks old, no complications at birth, vaginal delivery full term. Procedure was quick and the worst part of it is the “tongue masssge” exercises which baby isn’t a fan of, but they’re quick. She already seems more calm and less reflux/spit up. Hope this was helpful to anyone on the fence. Just a helpful experience, remember everyone’s is different and to do your research as well as listen to YOUR doctors/pediatrician/dentists.
I just had my 3rd baby last week and she's got covid which is making feeds tricky with her stuffy nose. She's gaining finally, but having a newborn with covid is scary
I lose my mind every time I hear "feed every 2-3 hours." We prepare the bottle or breast before waking my daughter, so she goes immediately from sleep to food. Start the clock. From waking her to finishing feeding, burping, changing clothes, multiple diaper changes is about an hour and a half. Then comes the battle of soothing her back to sleep. Another hour. Stop the clock. 2.5 hours of caring for her followed by half an hour of sleep before starting the shit show over again?!!!! How is that the recommendation?
I am losssing my mind. My baby is 2 weeks old. Takes 4 oz of a bottle then wants more. She will be on my dang boob for an hour and still not be satisfied. It’s hard to get her to sleep now
I have a 6 day old and I wish I had seen this video beforehand! Cluster feeding is no joke and it really caught me by surprise. It is the hardest thing to make sure your kid is getting enough to eat while recovering from labor and delivery. We ended up getting help from formula and are close to 100% breast milk again. If I have a 2nd, I would plan on supplementing again

My baby has tongue tied issues. I have taken them to 2 paediatricians and both of them have confirmed that the tongue tie is there but a medical intervention is not required at this time. I am just confused that if we leave it for long can it have any unwanted affects on the baby’s growth?
My baby simply cannot latch. He is not tongue tied but even after several sessions with different lactation consultants nothing seems to work. I'm able to pump and feed him breastmilk from the bottle but I keep hearing about how important it is for him to feed directly from the breast and it makes me anxious that he won't be healthy unless he can eventually latch.
Omg I wish I watched this video before getting so mad at my 1 week old baby for being hungry again an hour and a half after eating instead of 3 h ... Thank you.

Hi.. I watch all your videos and it's very helpful.. I have a 2 weeks old girl baby.. Her lips is super dry and skin is peeling off.. Can you please suggest some solutions for this.. Many thanks in advance..
Just watched a few of your videos can y’all do a video about T1 diabetic pregnancy? Or just diabetic in general? Very nervous I see so many problems being a diabetic and would love an educational video especially as a diabetic just in case I need to talk through extra things with my doctors nurses. Also wondering what to do if addiction runs in your family and you avoid pain meds? TIA ❤️
So what did you do about the mild tongue tie? I have the exact same issue with my newborn and he’s still not latching so I’m about to give up and just exclusively pump. Curious what you decided for your daughter.
I love your videos! Thanks for putting the time and effort in to educate us (usually in the middle of the night during feeds😂) My EBF 5 week old is eating consistently every 1.75-2 hrs during the day, every 4 at night. Is there a way to encourage her to move closer to every ~3 hrs during the day? Or just keep rolling with the every 2 hrs?
Can you talk about saving colostrum prebirth? I had been planning to save, freeze, and bring to the hospital but my OB told me she doesn’t believe it’s beneficial because the “best stuff” come in shortly after birth. I can’t find a lot of research on this personally but was fully prepared to hand express and bring to the hospital, so now I don’t know what to do!
I was told to collect colostrum as I had gestational diabetes. I tried and tried from 37 weeks and couldn't get anything hand expressing or trying on a pump. Fast forward and I had my baby 2 weeks ago, my colostrum came in pretty much instantly after birth, my baby is tongue tied so couldn't latch so was super helpful to collect in syringes and give her the 'liquid gold' colostrum. Don't stress yourself about it, just see how you get on ☺
How do u fit in cluster feeding with trying to follow a vague eat, change, play, sleep routine? Still follow that just quicker or cut out the sleep? Or just have to play by ear?
The cluster feeding usually only lasts for the first couple weeks which is a part of the normal process, but then they can start to get to the eat, play, sleep routine more towards the end of the first month… those first few weeks can definitely be a challenge though with the frequent feeds.
My baby is 3 months old but she was born at 4 lbs, and she is now 9 lbs. I pump breast milk and I give her 3 oz every 3 hours but I also breastfeed a couple times in between the 3 hours because she seems fussy but she doesn’t seem to want her bottle. I’m thinking maybe I should try to increase the bottle to 4 oz? Or is she too small for that much milk since she’s just now 9 lbs?
10-15min each boob each feed? My 3 month old virtually never stays on a boob for 10min. And usually is happy after eating from a single boob. Or at least so asleep that it's hard to wake him (or simply refusing to latch again). But then he goes only about 2h between feeds. It's also been a bit hard ever since the beginning as my nipples are still very sore. We think it might be that he got thrush on the back of the tongue and is not latching as deep as he could be. And our gp is only doing phone calls now 🤷♀️
Unfortunately I don't have any advice. But I am very sorry you're still sore! It only lasted 2-3 weeks for me. So my only thought is to see if you can get a new Dr so you can actually get the help you need & deserve. But that is just my unsolicited opinion. I wish you luck and healing (for you and babe) going forward! :)
The older baby gets, the more efficient they are at feeding, so the 10-15 minutes per side is more for early newborn age. My son used to take 45 minutes to finish a bottle and now anywhere from 10-25 minutes depending on how hungry he is.
As a new dad, I’m struggling with feeding while the baby is moving a lot while feeding and I have a tendency of letting the milk spilled on their bibs and clothing. I’m struggling with positioning of feeding them and all.
My baby eats so well from birth to 6weeks but immediately after giving 6weeks immunisation, automatically my baby stop eating as usual. I don't know if it normal doctor
Any ideas to help a baby eat a tad bit faster? My 6 week old eats so slow that we are essentially feeding her all evening until she finally goes to sleep at 11. We realized we were pacing her paced bottle feeds a little too much until we watched your paced bottle feeding video. That worked for a few days, but now she's back to taking forever. I'd love to give her the time, but we have other things to do. I've tried having her in only her diaper, music, no music, lights, bothering her, burping her. She has also started nibbling on the nipple instead of eating some which really doesn't help matters. 😅
@@Snowshowslow we actually learned that she was exhausted. We were struggling to get her to sleep, it was taking effort to eat, made her tired, etc. once we fixed it, things improved!
@@TheTraditionalTutor Ugh I'm sorry you have to deal with that! We took the Taking Cara Babies Online Sleep Class. It worked almost immediately. Turns out, because she wasn't sleeping, she was tired which made it harder to eat, which made her more tired etc. Now at 16 months, she's a great sleeper too! LOL

Good day, my baby is 9 days old by this time, and gains 50grams of weight from the time he was born (from 3.18KG to 3.61KG). Is he overweight?, because our pedia says he is overweight for his age, the problem is our baby is hungry every 2 hours sometimes less per feed of 1.5oz of milk. is that significant gain bad for our baby?, thank you
Hello! Just had my first newborn this past week! My wife and I are beyond happy but also a bit frustrated as we've been trying to figure out how to best feed our son. We're trying to stick within the 2-3 hr rule but is this within a 24hr period, so midnight to midnight? Or in 12hr period. Typically what we've been doing is every 2-3hrs, we wake up the baby, change his diaper, feed them about 2oz, maybe play with them a bit, put them to sleep, rinse / repeat. As first time parents, this is all very new and intimidating and we just want to make sure we're not over / under feeding him. This is not including the fact of cluster feeding lol.

I'm currently going through the same thing
@@hannahtopa sending you so much love and hugs. Please know your mental health is so much more important. Disregard the noise around you. Your baby needs you to be happy first. My baby is now 1 month old and I’m at a much better mental state as I’m combined feeding (pumping and formula). My baby just would not latch and I went through hell and back trying and crying and feeling terrible as they made such horrible comments at me. I go back to work in a few months so I need to exclusively switch to formula then anyway. You got this mama!
@@RubyGonzales needed to hear this. Thank you
My baby has a 100% tongue tie so couldn't latch but we have managed to put on weight! Woo! 🙌 💪 She is 2 weeks old and hardly ever cries for food, her feeding cues are so clear! She munches her hands and wiggles her head ♥ currently waiting for her tie to be snipped
Can you please do a video about lip and tongue ties?? This is not talked about enough and I’m worried I won’t know or I’ll miss the signs!
I just had a baby about a week ago and both my midwife and her pediatrician checked her and confirmed a lip tie.
I would just make sure your child’s dr looks at it. Some things they said to look out for are a pointed nipple after feeding, feeling pain during the whole feeding and not just at the start, if baby is making loud suction sounds (like the seal is being broken)
Hope that gives you a little peace of mind mama!
Yea my baby born a week and a half ago has a 100% tongue tie that I had checked when she couldn't latch. Get someone to take a look
Thank you guys for all the help you're giving to new moms. This is so great. 👍
Thank you for saying so. We truly hope it’s making a difference.
I just had my 3rd baby last week and she's got covid which is making feeds tricky with her stuffy nose. She's gaining finally, but having a newborn with covid is scary
I’d love to see a video on preeclampsia!
I lose my mind every time I hear "feed every 2-3 hours."
We prepare the bottle or breast before waking my daughter, so she goes immediately from sleep to food.
Congratulations on your baby girl 🎉
A tip to tell if baby is hungry When they are crying their little hands will be in these tight fists! Works every time
Great video yall!! Would love to see some discussion about when &how to introduce common allergens in the solid food video in the future
We can absolutely include this in the upcoming baby-led weaning video.
Thank you so much! All of your videos are so clear and helpful and helped me have a lot more confidence as a first time mom. 🤗
Great idea!!! Yes, please! 🙏❤️
Hi I’m actually under the category of FTM and 20W & 4D lol I’m a UK based but love your video for the knowledge and information you provided. I’m watching at least 1 every night just to get myself ready for when my little man arrives. Thank you so much for the knowledge and experience your sharing without the rest of us FTM. Ps was drawn in by your surname lol my little boy name will be Björn.
Can’t wait for the baby led weaning video!!
Hello Drs Bjorkman, can you please give us an advice about bottle aversion? Thank you
Do you recommend a pacifier for newborn?
Great video. What do I do about my newborn baby sleeping most of the day? He also falls asleep during the feeding.
Wow interesting illustrations, thanks
Thank you for this video!
Please make a video on tongue ties and your experience breastfeeding after frenotomy.
My baby has tongue tied issues. I have taken them to 2 paediatricians and both of them have confirmed that the tongue tie is there but a medical intervention is not required at this time. I am just confused that if we leave it for long can it have any unwanted affects on the baby’s growth?
my baby will be here in less than 2 months ! Imma single mom :) I’m gonna be vlogging my experiences and keeping it 💯 with y’all all along the way
My baby simply cannot latch.
I feel you. ❤ it sucks! I hope it worked out!
Omg I wish I watched this video before getting so mad at my 1 week old baby for being hungry again an hour and a half after eating instead of 3 h ...
Thank you.
Could you please, please do a video on cervical incompetence???
Thank you!
I love your videos and your positive, reassuring energy!! Thank you!!!
Hello there..thank you so much for this infirmative video.. im a new mom with 2weeks and days baby.. kinda stress if my baby is overfeeding. I gave him pump breast milk and formula since i dont make alot of milk...but were trying to do direct breastmilk feeding..i just need confirmation and clarification if im doing the right thing.
Thank you for your great info.
Can you tell us what app is good to track breastfeeding?
Sarah mentioned the Huckleberry app!
LOVED the Huckleberry app
Kindly do a video about good positions to try during labor
My baby is almost 4 months on the 15th. Shes drinking formula. Shes eating 4 ounces ever 3 hours. She was born full term.
Im think of starting to give her 5 oz ever 3 hours
Do you mind sharing what baby formula you feed your baby with? what brand?
My 4 week old baby boy also has tongue tie. What can you suggest for that, please? We are very confused. Please reply @thedoctorsbjorkman
Any tips for breast feeding together with bottle feeds ?
Please give us some insight on the article outlining the cause of SIDS. I would love to hear your thoughts/advice/review!!
TIA ❤️
I really enjoy you guy’s work. Wanted to be sure “28 McDonalds burger per day” equivalent is appropriate?
So what did you do about the mild tongue tie? I have the exact same issue with my newborn and he’s still not latching so I’m about to give up and just exclusively pump. Curious what you decided for your daughter.
What about overnight feeding is it recommended to wake the baby up or?
Hey there, what about babies 4 months and older? How much expressed milk do they need in 24 hours? Thank you!
I love your videos! Thanks for putting the time and effort in to educate us (usually in the middle of the night during feeds😂)
My EBF 5 week old is eating consistently every 1.75-2 hrs during the day, every 4 at night.
Don't stress yourself about it, just see how you get on ☺
Is there anything I should be doing before baby arrives to help my milk come in?
do you advise giving a newborn, probiotic drops ?
Thank you thank you thank you
@The Doctors Bjorkman, I am 6 week pregnant, can I continue playing volleyball, is it safe to do so?
Do we need a bottle steriliser for the babies? Or the dishwasher is enough?
Can you please do a video on constipation?? My baby is one month old
How do u fit in cluster feeding with trying to follow a vague eat, change, play, sleep routine? Still follow that just quicker or cut out the sleep? Or just have to play by ear?
The cluster feeding usually only lasts for the first couple weeks which is a part of the normal process, but then they can start to get to the eat, play, sleep routine more towards the end of the first month… those first few weeks can definitely be a challenge though with the frequent feeds.
What should I do my baby is over feeding sometimes she cough my baby is 2months old please advise me 🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰
My baby is 3 months old but she was born at 4 lbs, and she is now 9 lbs.
Can you please share your journey with the tongue tie? Did you get it fixed? Did you not and were able to get her to latch anyway? If so, how? Thanks!
Hello, what is your opinion on the Deeamland Sleep sack?
Is there a video about types of bottles and sterilizers?
@@beckym8 my son was never feeding for so long. Only recently he had a couple of sessions of about 20min
Have you tried the Bare Air-Free infant feeding system ?
Omg where is the Cecilia necklace from? 😍😍😍😍😍😍
As a new dad, I’m struggling with feeding while the baby is moving a lot while feeding and I have a tendency of letting the milk spilled on their bibs and clothing. I’m struggling with positioning of feeding them and all.
Could you talk about burping? Whether it needs to be done and if so how?
Did you ever find a solution to this?
@@Snowshowslow we actually learned that she was exhausted. We were struggling to get her to sleep, it was taking effort to eat, made her tired, etc. once we fixed it, things improved!
@@shylacogar1943 Ah, that's good to figure out! She'll be glad you know the answer to that question 😃
@@shylacogar1943I’m kind of facing the same issue with my 12 week old, what helped u overcome this?
@@TheTraditionalTutor Ugh I'm sorry you have to deal with that! We took the Taking Cara Babies Online Sleep Class. It worked almost immediately. Turns out, because she wasn't sleeping, she was tired which made it harder to eat, which made her more tired etc. Now at 16 months, she's a great sleeper too! LOL
I love your videos. Can you do a video on insufficient glandular tissue. I think it's important for women to know they can still give their baby colostrum with this disorder. Also, what to expect. Thank you for this fantastic video.
Hi am a first time Mom 8 monthths pregnant, trying to get info about breastfeeding
What can I do as a first time Nana help my grandson to pass gas. He has stomach aches a lot. He's breast feed. Please help. Thank you for all your information.
How do you figure out how much to put in a bottle to not overfeed a breastfeed baby?
Can you make a video about tips for starting solids? My EBF 7 month old HATES eating food and it’s stressing me out! 😭
Please provide the measurements in CC/ml for your non-US audience!
How much weight gain is required week by week for a newborn?
Would you guys be able to talk about SIDS and the article that talked about the enzyme found in many kids who died of SIDS?
I love your content! Have y’all thought about doing a sleep training video?
Good day, my baby is 9 days old by this time, and gains 50grams of weight from the time he was born (from 3.18KG to 3.61KG). Is he overweight?, because our pedia says he is overweight for his age, the problem is our baby is hungry every 2 hours sometimes less per feed of 1.5oz of milk. is that significant gain bad for our baby?, thank you
Could you do next a video on diversification?
Can you do a video on solids and when is a good time to start
You guys are awesome ❤️❤️
Awww thanks. Hope you are doing well!
If your baby is gaining weight then you're doing fabulous!
Sometimes they do loose weight within the first week but then it should start to go back up again
How many bottles for twins?
What is ccs? Would have been better if you used milliliters.
Sorry 😬… a “CC” is a millimeter. Technically stands for cubic centimeter.
