t shirts are one of the most important things you should spend money on. the fit, the material, they are a huge difference. on your body it doesn't make a difference, you are basically a coat hanger, but once you start getting a decent athletic body, the cut of the t shirt becomes much more important.
Just a couple of disagreements: * If you want a leather belt, it's worth spending on a belt that uses actual full grain leather. I bought a brand name belt from Nordstrom's for $80 and a full grain leather belt from Allen Edmonds for only a little bit more, and the Nordstrom's belt fell apart literally within weeks, while the AE belt I've had for years and it still looks great. If you're ok with fabric or nylon belts (or no belts at all), then obviously this doesn't apply, but for leather, it absolutely does * Socks are absolutely worth spending more on if you use them heavily. My feet feel way better after a whole day of walking in a pair of Darn Toughs than in a cheap pair of Nikes, especially after I've had them for a few months (or years)
I agree with everything, except with the belts. Belts that cost 20-30£ will last around 3 years if you are lucky. If you get one nice leather belt from a good leathersmith, you'll get something that will last for your whole life, maybe more
I suppose it wasn’t the best example. I’ve had my belt for about 10 years and it was about £20 at the time. It was handmade from a good leather maker. I kinda just meant you don’t need to spend hundreds on a designer belt like one from LV or Versace or whatever. Thanks for watching
The real life hack is to buy the cheaper socks for yourself and when it comes to birthdays, anniversaries or Xmas/secret Santa, you ask for the expensive socks.
I grew up wearing 100% merino wool socks, they’re so goddam good, they’re 40$ Australian so ~ 20 euro’s from mongrel Tasmania cannot recommend them enough, but they will wear out in about a year or so of wearing them constantly
Great video as always and agree with all your tips. What I do to save a bit of money is get all my toiletries when they're on sale, or 3 for 2 or whatever. That way you can also stock up and only have to worry about buying time a few times a year.
2:37 generally agree but not for business shirts. There's a massive difference between cheap and decent white collar business shirts, quality shirts are usually MUCH better in hot weather (more forgiving/better designed fit around cuffs and collar and cooler material ie more cotton less polyester). Only place I spend real money for socks is for hiking socks (absolutely worth).
Very practical and realistic advice. Plus you got me at UNIQLO around where I live and given my age, I go for the minimalist no fuss outfits. Thanks a lot. Live Long and Prosper!
I agree with the belt. Most of the time, pants or shorts have adjustable strings and it gives more flexibility on the fit. I just bought a $20 vans checkered belt and call it a day.
I have the same feeling, but only because I'm deep into the world of raw/selvedge denim. If you research denim in general, you are often times getting what you pay for (although sometimes you're also definitely paying for the brand). If you're just going for the stonewashed / vintage washed look right out of the gate, then yeah, you can get some pretty cheap jackets that look fine in the short term. If you're really a "denim guy" (love the fade process and wearing denim a lot in your rotation), it's worth investing in some higher quality stuff (N&F, Brave Star, Momotaro, Iron Heart, PBJ, Japan Blue, Rogue Territory, etc).
I think the real point is that every kind of product category has a sweet spot price bracket you need to find, spend under that and you're getting bad quality that will last you less, spend over that and you're paying for hype/design/ marketing.
Agree with almost everything here with one major exception. If you want to get a leather belt, $20 is going to buy you a piece of crap. Full grain leather is 100% worth the extra money. I have several cheap belts (made from genuine leather), and a few higher quality full grain leather belts. The contrast in quality is enormous. The cheap belts look plastic, end up cracking, and will last 1/5 as long as their higher quality counterpart. Cost per use ends up higher by initially going the cheap route.
Agreed. If the belt were just an unapologetically thick piece of suede, that would be one thing, but with the embossing and laquering, it just begins to look like plastic. However, if you have a veg tanned belt, do not wear it with light colored pants. I've had the oils and tannins bleed onto my pants.
@@varun009 With many sneakers I think that effect really fits a certain style, but these belts just look off to me. Harry Has mentioned in a response elsewhere that he did actually get a cheap option from a good leatherworker, £20 spent there is probably very different than crappy £20 branded belts etc., unbranded the terrible ones go even cheaper anyway.

Agree with everything apart from shirts and belts. I understand the idea that shirts don't tend to look that much better the more you spend, but the feeling and durability certainly does increase when you spend at the right places. Solid video Harry- I can get on board with pretty much all of them, but the last one. I have the mindset that if it’s going on my actual body, then idm putting extra money towards it as it’ll be kinder to my skin! But each to their own ofc.
Great video mate, i agree...... kind of 80% lol, Here is why. When it comes to leather products, you get what you pay. My belt in this video is hand made and beautifully made. Had it for about 10 years. It was about £25 back in the day. Inflation happened and the same belt probably costs more but I don’t wear it, so either way, it’s not worth it as it sits in my wardrobe not being worn. The wallet, nah! I’m afraid I can’t agree there unless wallets are your thing. They aren’t mine. Thanks for watching and sorry if I seem dismissive. Just the way I feel.
i have an expensive wallet and dont regret it for a minute. its something i use every single day, no matter what im doing or where im going, and its aged great and still holds up. if i use something daily, i typically buy nicer.
Couple of things in my opinion, i got a comme des garçons wallet 4 years ago and it’s been by far the best wallet I’ve ever owned. In terms of shirts, the quality and fit definitely improves as the price goes up. A flannel from Portuguese flannel is miles away from a h&m or uniqlo flannel
I do like Portuguese Flannel shirts a lot. For me, I don’t get excited or wear shirts enough to justify spending a lot on them. I’d definitely like a better wallet but I’m not paying for one. Thanks for watching mate
I would say with denim jackets go to like a middle place as Levi's maybe, I have a cheap one from Pull and Bear and while I loved it and used it a lot, it started to suddenly break in the arms and I don't understand how. My gf has a Levi's jacket that is older than mine and it doesn't look distressed so I guess they are a nice option
I have a Levi's denim jacket that I thrifted a few years ago and it looks the same as it did when I first laid eyes on it. And my sister has a pair of jeans (Levi's) from high school that she's still using until now so they're a great option if you want high quality denim.
Good man! But consider sustainability: Buy one or two good quality leather belts (brown and black), which are tanned without chrome or other harmful chemicals. They will last you decades. And for socks or t-shirts, buy natural fibers if possible.
i think that being generous for hair products is totally reasonable and also for leather product, paying for the quality of the leather is better than for the branding
If you like something and will wear it then it’s never a waste of money though. This is just my opinion. Some people like to spend more on other items.
The shorts depends on your location i guess. If you live on a hot humid temperature country like Philippines, Shorts is a daily fashion. Of course if you were on a cold, winter country, you might not use it all the time.
Have to disagree with shirts. I have some, I got on sale for 50$ to 70$ that have last me over 8 years and still look as good as new. One should be able identify good materials and fabric though , some that go for $500 odd are so vile , companies should be ashamed trying to sell them. Good video all in all.
I mostly just get the more special stuff at higher prices, but even cheap brands are putting out great style here and there. I am lucky to like a lot of things that come in cheap, just gotta get a size up most the time to suit my style. Shorts are a great example, I get so many in various colors that my outfit options grow multiplicatively, and they last longer cause my rotation is so long. I also love modular styling with layering and accessories, a great way to spice up the more basic things and get some color/shape accents. (Ohh! Many accessories also come very cheap, and if you've got a crafty friend you can customize with cheap mats)
Myself I've been on a kick of only buying clothing i can figure out was made ethically. I'm ok spending $50 on a t-shirt as long as it's made and sourced in the US.
The addition I'd make to your video is to look at the slow fashion aspect of your purchases- how environmentally sustainable are the items? How long will they last? And how are the workers treated and paid throughout the supply chain? If these are good, then buy them. Companies like ASKET are doing a good job at making wardrobe staples like t-shirts that cost more than a lot of places for a basic, but I think are absolutely worth it because of the environmental and social benefits of them compared to most high street brands.
@@HarryHas Great to hear that you do it! Would love to hear you mention it more often in your videos- we need to break the habits of fast fashion and get people thinking about the footprint of their purchases :). @@HarryHas You do talk about it for sure. I just think that we all need to talk about it more. But a big part of my professional life is climate justice and work at COP each year, so this is an issue I'm very passionate about :)
I think you can get a lot of items in second hand shops. Old school wool coats or denim jackets, leather belts or even shoes that people give away because they don´t fit them well. I buy my basic T-Shirts for wearing at home there too. Doesn't´t matter if they are a little oversized when their gonna be stolen/shared by your partner anyway. The only problem I´ve encountered is that the majority of second hand stores are directed mostly towards women.
Second hand is great for so many reasons. Haha I know the feeling with clothes being stolen/shared. A lot of charity shops definitely have a lot more women’s clothing. Luckily there are a lot more vintage shops opening here in the UK with focus on both men and women’s clothing. You can always use things like eBay and depop for second hand too
I agree with the most of the points in this video, but actually if u care about ur hair u should spend some money on hairstyling products. It does not matter that much if ur hair is short, but when it gets longers u need to take a better care of it.
I like a good leather wallet and a better denim jacket. I've spent money on socks, but not anymore. I agree with you about the T's and shorts. Oh, you cut yr hair! When did this happen? Take care.
Sort of disagree with belts because I lost a ton of weight and the cost of getting a decent belt beats all the tailoring time and costs for ALL my pants.
for belts, going to vintage stores/ thrifting is like a cheat code... you can find really, really great quality (and big designers/ logos on the buckles if you're into all that) still for under £30, £40 absolute max - plus the fact that it's second-hand doesn't matter almost at all cos its a belt, so fit matters way less and its way less noticeable if it does happen to be a little bit old/ worn
I would add sunglasses. Given that the modern monopoly ramped up the prices to more than 10-20x the cost of manufacturing, one can find glasses of the same quality at 30 and 600 pounds.
Personally love wallets not to flex but just the feeling of different leather. And each wallet breaks in different and forms differently. As well as denim jackets I have a old vintage Levi jacket that my father wore when he was in highschool. And I can just say the difference between that denim and the denim that is manufactured nowadays feels drastically different.
2:40 I'm with you, on flannel shirts But on stuff like Oxford button ups etc, the extra money goes a long way: Better fit, less see through and a lot easier to iron And sometimes you need a belt to get the fit just right. Designer is almodt always a waste of money. But investing 40$ in a good belt, which keeps it shape much better.
I would add trousers to the list because at the end of the day it's just a black trousers no need to get expensive one.... Although that issey miyake is always on my mind 😆
The basic plain t shirt , I don’t know how many I have ruin from plain to a pieces of art these past year. I can’t just keep them plain all year round.
I disagree with wallets. Some more expensive wallets have more versatility and style that can fit what you want but it doesn’t mean you need to spend too much on one. I do think around the $100-120 range should be the absolute max you’d spend on one. There are ton of cheap wallets that just aren’t there in quality. Get a good leather one that’ll patina over time as you use it.
My biggest t shirt secret is finding and buying Son of a Tailor custom t shirts secondhand. The brand make expensive, exceptionally high quality custom tailor fit t-shirts, but aren't well known. So secondhand ones go for practically nothing
This video does NOT mean you shouldn’t buy good quality items!!!!!

I totally agree with you on the shorts. I saw a guy say that he wasn't expecting great quality from 70$ shorts, that's crazy
Harry can u make a video about bags and backpacks?
I don’t have the most exciting bag collection. I have a few but I’ll see what I can do 👍
@@HarryHas great thanks
Myself I've been on a kick of only buying clothing i can figure out was made ethically. I'm ok spending $50 on a t-shirt as long as it's made and sourced in the US.
Welp, I just spent a fortune on a Tom Ford black denim jacket...but i love it! I live in it most days :D
If you love it then it’s money well spent 👍
do you think h&m is a great place to shop for a minimalist wardrobe?
Of course
Thanks Harry!
I like the feel of wearing a good t-shirt tho, the ones i like the most are about 75-90$ which is steep but It makes me feel better on the daily
Gotta do what works for you 👍
The addition I'd make to your video is to look at the slow fashion aspect of your purchases- how environmentally sustainable are the items? How long will they last? And how are the workers treated and paid throughout the supply chain? If these are good, then buy them. Companies like ASKET are doing a good job at making wardrobe staples like t-shirts that cost more than a lot of places for a basic, but I think are absolutely worth it because of the environmental and social benefits of them compared to most high street brands.
I always try and do that with my clothing. I know there is a lot of talk about Uniqlo but I haven’t bought from them in a long while myself
@@HarryHas Great to hear that you do it! Would love to hear you mention it more often in your videos- we need to break the habits of fast fashion and get people thinking about the footprint of their purchases :). And thanks for putting out the content that you do- it is always interesting to see what your style is from week to week :)
@@SimonChambers I feel like I talk about it a lot in videos and comments on my videos. I might make some videos all about it though.
I do use different stuff in my hair when it’s longer so I agree with you there. Thanks for watching
I like a good leather wallet and a better denim jacket. I've spent money on socks, but not anymore. I agree with you about the T's and shorts. Oh, you cut yr hair! When did this happen? Take care.
I was too busy to go to the hairdresser so I shaved it off a few weeks back
Harry never misses!!
🙏🙏🙏
Very good topic Harry.👍
Thanks a lot
In my opinion, it is worth it too spend extra on jackets, footwear, and sweaters!
I have a video about that from last week 👍
Very good video and nice reality check
Thank you very much
Agreed with everything except the shirts. Good video
Thanks a lot mate
FACTS, tell em Harry!
🙏🙌
Sort of disagree with belts because I lost a ton of weight and the cost of getting a decent belt beats all the tailoring time and costs for ALL my pants.
COS makes great basic tees
for belts, going to vintage stores/ thrifting is like a cheat code... you can find really, really great quality (and big designers/ logos on the buckles if you're into all that) still for under £30, £40 absolute max - plus the fact that it's second-hand doesn't matter almost at all cos its a belt, so fit matters way less and its way less noticeable if it does happen to be a little bit old/ worn
Second hand is always a good idea
11. Hype sneaker. Solution : Buy timeless sneaker.
I would add sunglasses. Given that the modern monopoly ramped up the prices to more than 10-20x the cost of manufacturing, one can find glasses of the same quality at 30 and 600 pounds.
I tend to splash out on socks because its the one thing you can add a design touch to your outfit without breaking the bank.
Fair enough. I’m not a huge fan of denim jackets for myself
2:40 I'm with you, on flannel shirts
But on stuff like Oxford button ups etc, the extra money goes a long way: Better fit, less see through and a lot easier to iron
And sometimes you need a belt to get the fit just right. Designer is almodt always a waste of money. But investing 40$ in a good belt, which keeps it shape much better.
I find I don’t need to spend much on oxfords either. I’m not much of a shirt person though
My man literally lists my whole wardrobe 😛
I would add trousers to the list because at the end of the day it's just a black trousers no need to get expensive one.... Although that issey miyake is always on my mind 😆
Hahaha. My other video Styles otherwise. I think they are the most important part of my wardrobe
I thrift most of my clothes. If I want to get new clothes then I will just wait for it to be on sale.
The Black Nylon Jacket with the patch?
Great 💡ideas , great content
Thank you very much
The basic plain t shirt , I don’t know how many I have ruin from plain to a pieces of art these past year. I can’t just keep them plain all year round.
You should spend on socks. Merino blend socks are life changing.
your hair looks nice today
I live around the corner from Burleigh Heads (see Rhythm hat)
So I shouldn't buy the Prada plain white shirt 3 pack for 800 dollars? 😂😂😂😂 Great video and I agree with pretty much everything!
Hahaha I think that’s a bargain!
👏 great massage, style it's not about money
Glad you enjoyed it mate
damn man, thanks a lot. your video this one open my eyes a lot.
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for video Harry, what grey essential hoodies do you recommend ?
I disagree with wallets. Some more expensive wallets have more versatility and style that can fit what you want but it doesn’t mean you need to spend too much on one. I do think around the $100-120 range should be the absolute max you’d spend on one. There are ton of cheap wallets that just aren’t there in quality. Get a good leather one that’ll patina over time as you use it.
I would add underwear like Versace , D&G, etc for $40-$70 for one pair lol
My biggest t shirt secret is finding and buying Son of a Tailor custom t shirts secondhand.
The brand make expensive, exceptionally high quality custom tailor fit t-shirts, but aren't well known. So secondhand ones go for practically nothing
