- An alternative technique for foiling using embossing folders. No metal shim required, but you do have to allow time for the embossing folder to heat up on the GoPress.
Thank you so much for a thorough & easy to follow & understand tutonal on this technique, many other video's I've watched have made it complicated & hard to follow.
Glad it was helpful!
Oh my Joanne! They’ve come out really well. I’m amazed how they’ve worked. I’m definitely going to have a go doing that. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thanks so much for the tip on masking. I couldn't work out how to solve my over foiling mess!!
You’re such a good teacher. Gentle repetition of important details really cements the information. Thank you! And such a pleasant voice makes your videos a pleasure to watch.
Thanks ever so much. I can't afford to purchase many background stamp dies and this video has given me a great alternative. Thanks for sharing in a most patient and cohesive way.
Very clever!
Thanks for sharing. I have lots of embossing folders to play with!
This is awesome!! I can’t wait to try this. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Thank you for the tips on using embossing folders as foiling stamps.
I have found the sand eraser that Tombow makes will easily remove over-foiled areas. You want to use it with a light hand to avoid damaging the cardstock. Also, clean the foil color build-up off the eraser by erasing on clean scrap paper to avoid discoloring the cardstock while erasing.
Thank you so much ch for your advise I always enjoy watching your videos ...
Had my machine a week and not had one successful foil experience yet yours are amazing don't know what I'm doing wrong !
I always recommend that if anyone is new to using the GoPress & Foil, that they start with foiling using hot foil stamps (metal foiling plates). Have a look at my GoPress & Foil Beginners Guide Part 1. Foiling with embossing folders is hit and miss at the best of times as they vary so much.
The key to foiling well seems like to be the smoothest paper you can find. I watch many RUclips crafters and they all say the same thing. Not sure if it's available in the U.K. but Hammermill cardstock is a favorite of a lot of crafters. Is very economical too. Maybe Amazon U.K. stocks it. Good luck!
Lol..
Just realised this pst was 2yrs ago! Hope you've had success since then!
Thank you again for a very informative video. You explain things so they are easy to understand. I appreciate you showing and explaining the things that might not have worked as well. And in the USA we do call it an A2 size card.
Absolutely LOVE your videos!!!!!
Awesome idea!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for showing this. I’m kind of confused, why not close the embossing folder then run it through the machine. It would embossed the foil right onto the paper. You seem to be having trouble with areas of the foil not sticking, wouldn’t this solve the problem? I have some old folders that I don’t mind ruining to try this technique with. I hope you will try running it through hot with the folder closed and see if that works. I’m not talking about using the new, 3-D folders, but the old flatter folders.
The aim of this method is to produce a similar look to that you would get using a metal foiling plate - with the design flat and pressed slightly into the card. Since making this video I've replaced my die cutting machine as the pressure wasn't even across the width of the roller.
Do you have a very good microphone that picks up outside noises? What kind of microphone is it? I’ve been binge watching your videos because I just got a Go Press but I’m still a little scared to use it! Your videos are very good!
I record my videos just using my mobile phone (Samsung) - using the front facing camera and its built in microphone. I'm glad you are finding my videos helpful. If you've just your GoPress & Foil I would suggest you take a look at the Beginners Guides play list.
Have you tried running your foiled card through your die cutting machine before you remove it from the embossing folder? Curious if you can get both a foiled and embossed look.
The method I demonstrate here presses the foil into the card a little, in the same way as a metal hot foil stamp would. An alternative method is to emboss the card as normal first, and then open the folder and foil by using a metal shim, then foil (shiny side down) then card with embossing folder on top so you get the raised areas foiled.
I'm not familiar with "GoPress" it would be nice to see what it looks like in the video. Good Video!
The Go Press and Foil machine is from Couture Creations.
Can you use a quickie glue pen, or one of the old battery operated hot foiling pens, to go over the bit the foil has missed and redo ? Or would that need a different type of foil ?
You can use a quickie glue pen for very small areas of missed foiling (make sure its thoroughly dry before adding foil) but I've found its easily rubbed away and never looks quite the same as the hot foiled areas. You hardly ever get perfect results using an embossing folder - they really only a work around for the lack of range of hot foil stamps (plates) and the high cost of them.
Yes, over the past thirty years I have seen so many attempts at bringing foiling to the home crafter ,and never seen such good results as this. I remember the peel back stickers... so childish looking lol. Thanks for your videos , really inspiring me as I wait for my machine I bought yesterday from C&C to arrive. I love that I can do more with my ScannCut with it too, my fave is products which enable each other to do more. I can't wait to try it in conjunction with my parchment craft, hoping it works on 140-160gsm parchment. I am guessing I could use my old brass coloured embossing stencils we used back in the day when we hand embossed over a lightbox ? I still have a good few of those in my drawers, a proper hoarder lol.
Hi Joanne, you mentioned the cardstock Crelando, from Lidl in your video and that when it’s available in the store, ‘the crafting community’ announces it. Where might that be? I’ve contacted the store HQ but they can only see 2 weeks in advance and don’t have this item available in the next 2 weeks or at present.
I usually see people posting about it on Facebook crafting groups - but only a few days before it's in the shops. They seem to have it maybe twice a year.
can you say again what type of foil roll you are using? Would it be available in Canada?
In the video, the copper coloured foil I'm using is a Couture Creations GoPress & Foil, foil roll. I'm sorry but I don't have any information about stockists in Canada. Crafters Companion - Gemini hot foils would also be compatible.
how long do you heat the embossing folder
I heated the embossing folder for 5 minutes
The Tombow sand eraser also works well removing colored pencil mistakes. Again, work with a light hand.
Hi Joanne. New subscriber. I've just got a Go Press and Foil machine and I'm looking for any ideas. I love your tutorials. I have some 3D embossing folders and would like to try them. Have you?? I've tried regular ones with great results as I have a brand new big shot plus so I've had perfect foiling every time.
3D embossing folders don't work as the height of the raised areas varies. also they are thicker so may be too thick to use with the Gopress
Thanks for the new video.
Brilliant!
Where is the embossing folder from that you had to make a mask for?
It came with a magazine - sorry but no idea where you might be able to get it from.
Really nice card ideas. USA
What foil are you using on this?
Made this quite some time ago - I think it's Couture Creations Blue Green Iridescent foil.
beautiful ty for sharing luv ; )
👍❤️ new subber, uk!
Viel zu lang. So lange schaut man nicht zu, wenn man wetwas neues probieren will.
what type of die cutting machine do you have?
I have a Sizzix Big Shot Plus
