GoPress and Foil - Back to basics

- Beginners start here. using hot foil stamps and cutting dies for basic foiling techniques. There are lots of great technique being demonstrated all around the internet, and for those just getting started with hot foiling using their GoPress or still trying to decide whether or not to buy one, maybe too much to know what to start with, and what they should expect from their foiling. If you have a GoPress & Foil but don't own any hot foil stamps, then my advice would be to get at least one. You wouldn't buy a die cutting machine and not buy any dies, and the same goes for your GoPress and Foil - you need the right tools. I always use a hotfoil stamp to test new combinations of foil and card as I know what result I should be able to achieve with a hot foil stamp.
A very helpful video. Especially for the use of dies. Thank you😀
Enjoyed your video. I don’t use my go press and foil machine often so your video will be a great refresher every time I use and you.
Meant to say... every time I use it. Thank you for your video.
You're welcome :)
Thank you
Brilliant Joanne your video has inspired me to have another go with my go press machine xx thank goodness I have the big shot sizzix to as this works so well with the machine
Thank you so very much for answering my text im enjoying the information you are passing o to us all loving if
schöne Videos,gut erklärt---weiter so!
Thank you :)
Hi Joanne. Thank you for this video I will watch it a few times as the other day I nearly ruined my GoPrees and Big Shot because I use the metal plate when foiling. I managed to dent the metal plate. This is a good ad for the Big Shot as it took it all with only a little bit of a struggle. Can I please ask where you got the die for cutting out the Butterfly please. Will be glad when they bring out one that does the lot. Hugs and Happy Crafting xxxx
Margaret Davies-Stead I'm glad to hear this video is helping you. I'm sorry but the butterfly die seems to be very difficult to find.
Hi Joanne, been playing today but no success. I think I need to put a closed and DO NOT disturb on my playroom door and start again. Thank you for looking. Hugs xx
There are several GoPress users groups on Facebook - you can post pictures of your results on there (successes and failures) and get help and encouragement from other GoPress users.
Hi Joanne. Thank you for the suggestion. I don't really go on Facebook I will stick with you as you are so informative. Thank you. xxx
Can that foil be used without that machine?
The foil is designed for use with hot foiling machine, so it will work with other brands of hot foiling machines as well as the GoPress & Foil.
Hi I am new to foiling and have seen a lot of videos were a laminator is also being used as well. Which one would you advise on getting the gopress or the laminator. I am a bit confused. Thank you I enjoy watching your videos they are very informative.
They are completely different processes. Using a laminator you need to print the image to be foiled with a laser printer, or stamp/stencil with a toner reactive gel, and use Toner reactive foil - Thermoweb or Minc foil). I've never done that type of foiling. I believe printing gives very reliable results but stamping may not produce a perfect image - I've only seen it on videos. You need to be able to put whatever you are foiling through a lamintor. You need a laser printer/copier as well as the laminator.
The GoPress and Foil is used for "hot foil stamping" where the foil is transfered using pressure from a hot foil stamp. Hot foil stamps are usually metal and have raised ridges that create the foiled pattern. The foil is pressed into the card slightly by the process and it give a very neat result. You have to build up a collection of hot foil stamps. I've found I've switched to buying hotfoil stamps instead of dies. Several companies are making hotfoil stamps now that are compatible with the craft hot foiling systems - the GoPress & Foil, Spellbinders Glimmer and Gemini Foilpress,. The GoPress and foil can use the hot foil stamps made by the other copanies - they are a standard thickness.
The foils used for the 2 process are different - don't get them mixed up. Toner reactive foil does NOT work with hot foil stamps.
@@AnotherJoUK thank you
Can you use Cricut foil
I've no idea what type of foil "Cricut Foil" is - you need to use hot stamping foil. I believe Cricut is normally used to cut vinyl not foil.
So you don’t use the press machine to do yours?
This video is about using the Couture Creations GoPress & Foil - so I don't understand your question.
