You possibly already know, but a tip for quickly getting rid of loads of filler without the horrible dust - If you lightly heat up the filler with a blow torch it will just fall or peel off with some light persuasion from a chisel. Saved me recently when I found someone had put a half inch thick layer of filler over the sills on my MR2!
Great as always Steve 👍it’s amazing work, most garages would put complete arches in but why bother when it’s only a small section gone and guessing a lot cheaper 👍👍
The repair panel is approx £120 with carriage added. If the guys can fab a repair section in say 1.5 hours it is a saving to the car owner and the guys at Yorkshire Car Restorations get the labour cost for the 1.5 hours and the labour to weld in and fill that small section is say an hour or two less cost to the car owner. A win win situation.
Love that bender and stretcher tool; very handy bit of kit. One question though: wasn't there a panel behind the wing lip that was also corroded? Did I miss something? What happened to it?
@@yorkshirecarrestoration that's the thing - welded how. The piece you welded on is L shaped in profile. The inside sheet metal has an un even edge and does not look like it even would touch the piece to provide for a weldable seal. I can imagine the whole area there can be seam sealed. I am asking because I had difficulty with this in similar situation. I ended up welding on many small pieces to the inside metal (so that I can make the curve) so that they touch the patch panel to form a solid seam. I am far from being a pro, hence the questions.
It dosnt need to be replaced. As it's a budget mot repair not a restoration the inner was welded to the outer from the inside then sealed. No need for an exspensive inner repair.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration well I'm not sure how you see that as it was rusted away like the outer was so you would even for budget repairs do that little lower inner repair at the same time as you could see where it was rusted away.
there was only a little bit of the inner arch missing and pointless putting the lip back in when its just a budget repair the inner arch was welded to the outer and sealed making it water tight :)
As per the comments above the inner was welded to the outer as per the video, just hard to film so filmed it from the outside :) it was then sealed :) thank you for your comments :)
Nice work, but better job is to weld in the inner arch repair section first, then make the outer arch. Seen the other wheelarch vid you did without the whole inner arch! Bonding the inner remaining bit to the outer isn’t giving it enough strength. Also get yourself an ‘onion board’ for your filler mixing, tear off waxed paper sheets, from a pad, means a flatter harder surface to mix filler on and never getting any unmixed bits in the cardboard grooves, and no chance of spreader ever popping through the cardboard. Keep em coming. Those mx5 cars must be your pension pot, they rust so bad!
What's the best way to get in contact with you? got an 06 NC which is just starting to show some signs of rust on one of the rear arches this winter, would like to get it sorted before it worsens.
Great video as usual, agree with other comments music is awful! Looking at your workshop roof in one shot methinks you are going to freeze in there this winter!
3 generations of Miatas and Mazda still makes the same mistake. Too bad, in every other aspect its a great car. This is the only reason why i dont own one.
Yes Steve, just a simple repair using simple hand tools and a great amount of skills learned over the years. Wonderful as usual!
Thabk you Eddie :) 👍
Equal parts inspiring impressive and bloody terrifying - excellent work as always
Thank you again Colin :)
Lovely to see proper skill and things done right.
Thank you we do appreciate it :)

Yes a good way of dealing with it sometimes :)
Impressed you were able to weld to the rear arch because they're pretty thin metal.
They are, but as long as you spot weld a seam to keep the heat down, and cool inbetween instead of one long bead that will warp the panel :)
Great as always Steve 👍it’s amazing work, most garages would put complete arches in but why bother when it’s only a small section gone and guessing a lot cheaper 👍👍
yes, they always do only the necessary and they do it well.

Thank you for your continued support Leo 👍
Yes Eddie like you say everyone wins 👍

Hi Neil, that lip was cleaned @ 5:17 , the bit we didnt show was spraying neutraliser on it :)
Same thing happened to me often. Go for some roughing up for paint, find filler with nothing behind it. Wish I had these skills though.
Thank you these panels aren't hard to make with a little practice :)
Next job we need some merch 👍👍👌
Coming very soon 😁 thanks :)
Am guessing it was just me that feared for the fabric on the convertible roof...Great work with amazing skills.
Roof is being replaced :) 👍
@@yorkshirecarrestoration thank god, just subscribed. I shall be watching alot more!!
Can you please show what you did from the inside to seal the seam. Thanks.
The inside was just welded and seam sealed :)

Great video top work Looks excellent 👍
Thank you :)
The biggest question is why didn't you repair the inner lip first and then the outer lip as meant to be two there inner and out spot welded together

Very nice, but you didn't repair the inner arch and it's no longer attached to the outer.

Great content fantastic music 🎶
Thank you Brandon.
Great job 👍💯
Thank you :)
you not gunna weld the piece on the inner arch? seems like only half a job to me

What wire wheel's do you use on angle grinders? I have been using norton ones but was looking to try some other's
Hi Kyle, we just use the cheapest on ebay because we go through so many :)
Look at that rot. My NB 2.5 arches were like that, filler on top of filler.
Yer not good but a bit of metal and all is good again :)

Good job but crap music
Thabk you :)
MX 5 NC Rust.....he can help....10/2022....How old is this NC ?
It’s a 2007 I do believe :)
thank,s answer....@@yorkshirecarrestoration
I guess nothing smells better at morning then arches that are sculpted out of body filler.😂
Or a nice bacon buttie and a strong coffee :D
@@yorkshirecarrestoration You might be right on this one :D
any tips on dealing with return lip at inner wheelarch?
Best way is to spot weld it then seam seal it.
how oftern do you come across horror repairs like this one ?
All the time Karen :) 👍
Ah the good old Mazda "Limited Addition" 😏 A "Limited" amount of good tinwork, and the "Addition" of a 5 Kg tin of polyester filler 😆😁
Haha your probably correct :)
That’s a lot of filler
It is :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration keep up the good work
Thank you very much! We have much more on the way :)
Makes me I’ll seeing this rot 😬!
Not the nicest thing to come across :)

they certainly havent improved the rust situation, lets see how the ND fairs :)
Great video`s, terrible music
Thank you :)
Be better without the noisy music.
