    I'm just finishing up a 2002 Primera - repaired the rust, fresh steel, rustproofed every milimeter - or so I thought.. the boot area looked totally mint so I left it alone - I went to surface treat the drip-upstand..which looked immaculate till I pulled off the seal.. rust.. - I delved right TF into the boot area, took off everything, every cover, lights, inserts, blah blah - the "Mint" boot area was sound, but there were small outbreaks hiding in every dark corner.. Rust never sleeps and you've seldom "got it all" even when you think you have. I think I've got it all now, but I bet there's stuff hiding.. there always is. :-)

      BTW- see the likes of that MX, If it's a common vehicle I'm repairing and a common fail area, I make a template off the repair section when it's the perfect fit & file it away for the future - next time I have one to do, I grab the template, cut that shape out of steel & bang - no mucking about re-inventing a repair shape. At this stage now I have templates for all sorts & man do they save a lot of time mucking about.

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  Год назад +1

      We do make templates but I find it easier to just use my eyeometer 😁

    • @jamesward5721
      @jamesward5721 Год назад +1

      @@yorkshirecarrestoration No - I mean for "repeat repairs" - example being I do a lot of mid 2000's Pajeros so I keep templates of the common fail areas, same as for merc sprinters, blah blah - that way you don't need the eyeometer. :-)

      5 years ago I wanted to buy an MX 5 NC, but in the end it became a Porsche Boxster with more than 200 km (I'm from the Netherlands). It's not cheap to have a Boxster if you need parts, but there is no rust, even after 22 years. So that saves a lot of money on the other end.

After having a wee chat with the tester i was invited to look under thee car. Never seen anything like this before. Drove it straight round to the scrappie. Cost of possible repair was waaaaay in excess of value of car. Mazdas for some reason don't last any time .Expensive lesson .?? Later🤐

    Hi Steve, fabulous skills make such a good watch. Have to ask another question, I am starting a project involving a brand new shell (find of the century for me anyway!) and am still trying to determine the best way of finishing the underside etc. Resisting the temptation of shutzing as it's a pretty one way journey and doesn't always last what would you suggest? I see you use gravitex, one idea is to better the factory seam sealing and use gravitex which can be over painted, typically i would use high solids 2 pack, sound about right, what do you think?
