I always wanna see more like what next what next. Love seeing you guys fix these cars it's so satisfying and gives me motivation for when I have to do mine which is scheduled for yesterday as its falling apart
"...now someone has just stuck some aluminium in there to bodge up this wheel arch..." You've found more of my handywork! I buy in my filler by the tonne! Is there any MX5 out there not rotten as a pear?
Another clear and concise video getting straight to the point, thanks Steve. There appears to be rust around the wheel arch protector attachment studs that needs seen to and a few other local rust patches that no doubt you will sort out for the owners. Did the Restoration gets it's MOT in the end. You advised it was waiting on parts.
Yes it will be sorted out Eddie 👍 rusteration now has parts but has failed just on a few minor items so just finding time to finish them and get a pass then back to the customer :)
Great video guys. I think a Boxster might be a less rusty prospect. What do you think? I mean, mechanically it’ll probably bankrupt me but at least I’d save thousands on MIG wire 😂.
It gets waxoiled from the inside. We advise on a lot vids that waxoil on inner panels is required as well, via access holes, even if they need to be drilled :)
We try to show people how to do it themselves and butt welding takes a lot of skill whereas lap Wilding can be learned very quickly with a little practice :)
where to draw a line between redoing return lip of inner arch vs glueing inner lip and having return lip only from outside arch? it's way more noticeable that arches had been redone but on other hand many New cars come this way Like Fiats. but cars with double skinned arch feel more posh when they have return lip.
some mazdas after 2016 have return lip where outside skin crimps over inner arch which is all sealed with some strip. in real life that would be impossible to replicate i guess. guess a lot of it comes to which country you live and if it's rare that you have Rust on cars than it's bit of a shame if your bodywork was reworked while in UK where everything is rusty it's viewed bit differently
Well the only reason you would be cutting it off if it was rusty otherwise you would leave it alone and if it’s rusty it will rust again if it’s double skinned but it won’t if single so better off in our opinion :)

Great video again. There seems to be many variations on these Miata wheel arches, and they all seem to rot in England. I'm also a Yorkshire lad and thought you may be interested in the tool I recently saw (and bought myself). I have no connection to the company but saw them being used on Fitzee's youtube channel. ruclips.net/video/mU46MpCXD3g/видео.html CLECO fasteners. I wonder if you have seen a special tool for holding panels together in exact place, easily removable on and off before welding. It is from the airplane construction industry and only needs a 1/8 inch holes in the panels where you would use a mole grip, spot weld the panel then remove the clips. It's called CLECO fastener. I first saw them used on Fitzee's channel. You can put a panel in place, remove it and then put it back exactly in the same place as many times as you like before welding. I bought my tool and fasteners on ebay and think it is better than holding panels in place with mole grips. I only saw they recently but bought the tool and 10 fasteners for less than 22 pounds from a place called SkinPins from Glasgow on ebay. I hope this helps.
Tidy work and all but it’s disappointing you didn’t do a proper job on inner wheel well. See around where the arch liner bolts in. It’s rotten. Which will mean doing it all over in a year or two
You deserve a beer after this one Steve! Thanks for all your work on it!
Thank you Dan I’m going to have one tonight :)
And thank you for the super like , it’s much appreciated😁👍

The previous repairs to the arch were shocking. Great job done 👍
Thank you they were :)
Ali strip? What happened to the good old days of the sixties and seventies, when scrunched up newspaper and polyfiller was considered a class repair?

Top quality work there pal
Thank you Carl
Proper job 🎉

Hello YCR, enjoying your content. I see you guys doing a lot of these repairs in several videos. Why no butt-welding these new panels? cheers!
Great video guys. I think a Boxster might be a less rusty prospect. What do you think? I mean, mechanically it’ll probably bankrupt me but at least I’d save thousands on MIG wire 😂.
Question. How much more expensive would this repair be if you replaced the rear wing? Twice, three time? More??
Over 4 times more :)
Thanks guys. Especially for not calling me an idiot.

Thank you :)
Been think to buy a mx5 for a summer car.
But after seeing your videos om afraid to get one, do they all rust that bad???
No it’s only a small portion of the millions sold but we do get all the rusty ones as that’s what we do :)
The ali strip did the trick for a few years😂
Think everything will rust around it :)
Be careful grinding the galv off its nasty stuff, good video very clear I'm sure many will learn from it
Thank you :)
Привет из России! 👍
Hello Russia :) thank you for your support :)
If possible it would be cool if you can tell us why u butt weld the arches instead of lap welding in one of the videos in the future
We are planning that :)
Do you guys have a preferred supplier for the mx5 panels? Better shape/quality of steel?
We do have a supplier but the more expensive ones on eBay are very good :)
Quite a large part of the exposed metal of the repair insert remained under the wing part. How to deal with it, rust will appear there very quickly.
It gets waxoiled from the inside. We advise on a lot vids that waxoil on inner panels is required as well, via access holes, even if they need to be drilled :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration But before that, it was great to cover the metal with epoxy primer, it would give more protection.

So the inner wing is just bonded to the outer?
How was it attached by the factory?
Was it not welded?
It’s welded but forms a water trap. This way we take away the water trap so it dosnt rust again :)
But is bonding as strong as a weld?
