🙋.. 2005 XC70 here, change plugs 3 years ago to I believe The same ones. I did not know the gasket was replaceable in the oil cap I am going to do that because the same problem. Had a misfire with replaced aftermarket coils later and then swapped them to cylinders 1/5... The problem followed and they got replaced.
I found your channel looking for berryman's B12. Long time user of that cleaner. 44k is BG, from the hometown of Wichita KS. I have never used it however. I have six cars so I am usually doing some sort of maintenance.

Glad you found the video! Yup, many dead coils due to a brittle or stiff oil cap gasket.

@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs I hear that, I use synthetic oil and it does or is friendly to rubber parts. Learn that years ago, it didn't blister or swell radiator hose when dripped upon. Mazda 1.8 L.

Hey Erik. Its a good thing you can do this work. I cannot imagine owning this car. It's the equivalent of a money pit! 😊

These really are hot garbage! I made a very healthy living trying to keep customer cars on the road, and somewhere along the way, I guess I just have a soft spot for them. I'd NEVER recommend that anyone one one though!

i tell everyone either your pockets are deep or you can turn a wrench with these cars... i love working on them and making the hood at a 45 degree angle every few days but that me im always looking for issues and as soon as you fix one issue on one of these s60s another one pops up and it NEVER STOPS !!

Guess nobody knows how to properly maintain these. I’ve had zero issues besides replacing pcv not to mention I put in a 16t turbo , intercooler and 650cc injectors and haven’t had any issues. Maybe go buy a Honda or something cheap

Hi man, I have oil on all 5 spark plugs just on the ceramic and on the top of their threads, but there is not oil on the top when the c,ables, plugs and coils settle it is totally dry . Even, the hole/duct of the spark plugs when the coils sparks fit are dry, there is no trace of oil to be seen descending. The PCV's sleeve is in good condition but I have not done PCV's test yet. The car is a Volvo C70 t5 1999 with only 72.000 km. Perhaps, there is a little dirt mark next to VVT valve but it doesn't explain the amount of oil Where do you think the oil comes from? Thank you.

I'd bet a dollar that the oil is leaking from a stiff oil cap gasket. It's a few bucks on eBay for a new gasket. It will fix that leak!

@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairsDo you mean the oil filler cap gasket? I had ruled it out because I don't have any oil on the top of the rocker cover where the coils sit. However, if it is as you say, and I hope it is, where would that oil go down or would it sneak in to reach the spark plug? The walls of the spark plug holes are completely dry and clean, there is only puddle-shaped oil on the top of the spark plug (ceramic part) and on the thread, mostly accumulated in the support washers.
On the other hand, I found next to the coil 5 a hole with a thread without a screw and that communicates directly with the inside of the camera. However, there was no oil around it. Is it a vent? I have covered it with a screw, okay?
Thank you mate, I appreciate your help.

Why not change the ignition coils also?

Around .. 275 USD though right? Not like .. a LOT but enough for it not to be a “just cus” replacement for sure.

Watching this vid, one might get the impression that Volvo actually manufactured its own spark plugs.
