    I just put new plugs & coils and also cleaned the MAF on my 2004 S60R with 160,000kms...what a difference!!
    It's injected new life into the car & restored lost power. Well worth doing.
    Btw for the S60R the manual says torque the plugs to 28nm.

    One important tune-up is also cleaning the MAF sensor, on top of the air filter box (just need to remove the box cover and spray the sensor from underneath).

    I wish I could give you a thousand thumbs up. I realize this isn't a complex job but watching you really helped me. I've done one other DIY job on my old Honda Accord and it was a success. I ended up buying 5 Delphi ignition coils and 5 Volvo spark plugs. It took me awhile, just because I didn't was to screw anything up, but I finally got it. I had a hard time breaking the old spark plugs out but was finally able to get them. I don't know if it was you or another video that mentioned 140,000 miles this should be done. My car started doing the "slow down or shift up" error and Google lead me in the right direction. My car started having problems right at 142,000 miles. Appreciate the help!

    Experts say to use only the CRC Maf sensor spray.. it's 10$ a can. It should be sprayed in the direction of the air flow, from inside the box cover, that's where it gets covered with dirt even with a clean air filter. Mine had a black crust, at 100K miles.

    I use compressed air to clean up everything before I remove any sparkplug.

    Watched this video twice & was able to knock it out in about an hour… for some god awful reason - on the 06 model,they decided to put that hard coolant hose smack dab right over the 3rd coil. Didn’t want to disassemble a coolant hose just to get to the valve cover

    Get a spark plug socket, I would never drop a plug down in there. Nobody bothers to take the extra step to blow out any debris either. This is your engine people, keep it clean.

    Good tip! A Dirty MAF sensor can cause all sorts of driveability problems.

    If you use Volvo OEM plugs there is no need to use never seize on the threads because the threads are plated.

    The original ignition coils last forever on this car, don't replace them just for maintenance. When one goes bad it usually causes hesitation under hard acceleration. Don't replace them all like many mechanics think it's right, just the bad one.
    As for the spark plugs by all means replace with the exact Volvo type - usually ones with 3 electrodes.

    Just gotta be extremely careful, sometimes the hot-wire element itself inside a MAF sensor is very delicate and can break very easily. I say this from a first hand experience a while ago :( .

    Just to let you all know if you have a 2.5T awd or fwd, T5, or R model you MUST take off the down pipe that goes across the top if the right side engine cover.

    • @MartinUnited97
      @MartinUnited97 6 лет назад

      You can do it if you loosen the pipe.

    • @seanpatrick6006
      @seanpatrick6006 6 лет назад

      Just loosen the turbo pipe and you'll be fine

    PO300 can be caused by many many things,, the most common is a vacuum leak. I would start by making sure that you have no vacuum leaks. PO300 is not usually a spark plug or ignition coil issue, because if that were the case, only a single cylinder would be affected.

    happened to me one, 04 s60 T5 , the coil packs were CRACKED , so the currant voltage was not going to the spark plugs, instead it was lost halfway down the cylindre

    Why don't you put the spark plug back into the spark plug socket (tool) rather than dropping them into the well? You still have to get the tool onto the spark plug..

    • @barrymorse8810
      @barrymorse8810 8 лет назад

      +champ7410 This is a great question.  There are two answers.  First, the business end of the spark plug is delicate.  If it hits anything on the way in, the spark gap could be altered.  Fingers have better fine-feel than a steel wrench for aiming the spark plug into the hole.  The second answer is that all screw threads are delicate. With a blunt tool like a socket wrench, it could be difficult to feel if the threads have engaged correctly at the start or if they have been cross-threaded.

    Terrible and terrible comments. Everyone here should pay someone to fix their car. Basically unless you have unlimited finances don’t own a Volvo. Because unless you are savvy and want to fix the car once a week you might as well be making payments on a new car. These cars are great but over 120000 it just never ends and I can’t get enough of it.

    Great video! My question is how often do we need to replace those ignition coils? I replaced the spark plugs but I now need to replace the ignition coil. My car is volvo s40 2005.

    • @brianodom797
      @brianodom797 8 лет назад +1

      Replacing the ignition coil is not necessary unless they have failed. The Ignition coils have a plug boot. The boot kit is usually also done with a spark plug replacement.
