- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2024
- We take a close look at the Starfighter tactics used by the Rebel Alliance in today's episode of Star Wars Battle Breakdown.
Throughout the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance was unable to meet the Capital Ship strength of the Empire. However, the could match them in Starfighter combat. I'll explain how the Rebel were able to stand up in Star Wars Legends Lore, on today's Star Wars Battle Breakdown.

"How are we supposed to take out that super star destroyer?"
"Fly an A-wing into its bridge?"
"Sounds like a plan!"
Captain Cutter yes that’s expected from any one
I've always loved that scene, for me as a kid it embodied the defiant, almost zelous rebellion fighting spirit near the end of the war
Poor Arvel Crynyd never got much backstory, in Legends OR in Canon. didn't even appear in Shattered Empire.
He did get an ISD named after him though.
"How do we take out that mega star destroyer? "
"Just fly our only capital ship into it at lightspeed without telling anyone the plan until they all leave the ship after an unsuccessful mutiny."
"Screw it, that'll work, go for it."
Im watching a dog with a hat on talk to me about rebel star fighter tactics. I think i have no other choice than to give this video a like
welcome to the internet!
lol
The internet in a nutshell
hmm sounds legit
He's a smart boy
Dude you could probably do a video breakdown on a taco and I'd watch
Taco video please
Yes please do that Eck!
"Today, we are looking at the TIE Taco, an obscure Imperial starfighter named for its resemblance to a rare food item from an otherwise unimportant and uninteresting Mid Rim planet."

The Covenant vs the Yuuzhan Vong.
The Eternal Empire vs the Infinite Empire.
The Xenomorphs (Aliens) vs the Flood.
The Restored Empire vs the First Order.
The Necrons (WH40k) vs the Yuuzhan Vong.
The Tau Empire vs the Eternal Empire.
The Banished (Halo) vs the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Thrawns fleet at Atollon vs the Separatists fleet at Christophsis.
The UNSC Infinity with escort fleet vs the Empires fleet at Hoth (legends).
The Empires and Rebels fleets at Endor (legends and no Death Star) vs the Covenants Fleet of Particular Justice (60 ships).
The Separatists fleet at Kamino vs Thrawns blockade of Lothal.
Imperial I-class Star Destroyer vs CPV-class Heavy Destroyer.
Bruce Jedi Lee holy crud that's like a years worth of recording lol
Lol! He wouldn't have to do all at once if he were to make all of these into videos
I always love how in Specter of the Past by Timothy Zahn Admiral Pellaeon uses the Bel Iblis A-Wing Slash tactic against a fleet of pirates, though using fighters to cover the devastating firepower of his star destroyer. This seems to be both a brilliant update of an outstanding attack strategy as well as a very interesting sign of respect by one Imperial commander for a legendary New Republic general.
And well - a practical proof to make sure its NOT Garm Bel Ibliz refusing his peace offer.
Your battle background are great and awesome video. Rebel star fighters were always my favorite. Also please keep doing this.
Gerardo Reyes background?
Mr. Hand Lol only Imperial ones had point defense, not the twos, and point defense in general was pretty much overlooked within the empire
Lore in Star wars is kinda jacked up. Some novels i read said X-wings were faster than Tie interceptors, while others said that Intercepters were faster than A-Wings (which are faster than X-wings) Also how fast Y-Wings has changed over time.
The movies should be the first source of Lore rather some book.
Also we don't know that the A-wing crash into Executor was a Kamikaze attack- the movie makes it look like it was not intentional. He has his eyes closed while he is spinning out of control if you are going to intentionally ram a ship you want ot keep your eyes on it. Its pretty clear he had his stabilizers shot out and was out of control.
Mr. Hand
Both Canon and Legends Imperial I have 60 heavy turbolaser batteries, 60 ion cannons, 6 dual heavy turbolaser turrets, 2 dual heavy ion cannon turrets, 2 quad heavy turbolasers, 3 triple medium turbolasers, 2 medium turbolasers, and 10 tractor beam projectors.
Legends Imperial II has 50 heavy turbolaser batteries, 50 turbolaser batteries, 26+ additional turbolaser batteries, 20 heavy ion batteries, 8 octuple barbette turbolasers or ion cannons, and 10 tractor beam projectors.
Canon Imperial II has 60 turbolaser batteries, 60 heavy ion cannon implacements, and 10 tractor beam projectors.
Turbolasers are capital ship weapons, ion cannons were used to subdue and disable enemy vessels, and tractor beams are used to capture targets. Unless I'm mistaken, none of those are point-defense.
Idea: do an episode where you describe your “perfect fleet”, with access to ships from Star Wars, Halo, Mass Effect, and/or other sci-if universes.
(5th try)
Nah that’s stupid because those universes are completely different, and some of them are just way more powerful so some universes would be obsolete.
@@SupaSillyThyme Yep, they should instead build their perfect fleet for various factions.
@@hanzzel6086 makes sense
@@hanzzel6086 although I think they already did something like that
@@SupaSillyThyme They did for the Galactic Empire. But I think that's it.
You had to put in the kamikaze
Who else is watching this to prepare for Star Wars Squadrons?
"Hey, keep doing this"
-Eck
Wow eck your channel has grown so much i remember when You were a small channel
I also remember that lol
I know I remember seeing his sub count at 3k only a year ago maybe
I know this would be difficult, but can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the whole franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!*
I have made this request: seventeen times.
Do more of this new spin off series.
Replicators vs a Unified Star Wars universe (239th try now, *_I._** WILL NEEEEVER EEEVER GIVE UP!!!)*
Him not doing it yet is HERESY!!!
Also who do you think would win and why?
And do you mean ALL of the Replicators just suddenly plopped down into the Star Wars Universe, or any specific amount?
we cant give up!
Eckhart SEE THIS. WE WANT IT
coming up on infra-red don't give up!
The fact Eckhart did Blacklight Virus vs The Flood in 140 tries but hasn't done this in almost double that is heresy
Eck! I check RUclips like 5 times a day for an update on your channel! Your battle analysis and updates are the best! I’ll be supporting the Patreon vary soon!!!!!!!!!
I love these battle breakdown videos! Keep them coming!
really loving this as well as battle breakdowns please keep them coming
I have arrived Lord Eck.
Always awesome to catch these vids early. Would love a similar video on capital ships and maybe one on imperial doctrine too!
Has there been any case of a starfighter (not a capital ship) using their hyperdrive and use their ship as a hyper accelerated missile in star wars lore?
Nope.
Justin Y. I dont know
One was mentioned in passing as happening during the clone wars where a capital ship hit a planet.. heresay though.
Justin Y. The galaxy gun kinda does this
Nope, they just decided to break the universe in TLJ either a) because lazy writing, or b) because fuck the contributions of other creatives to Star Wars over its 40+ years of existence. Neither are great excuses.
Dude your stuff is start my day please keep this up
Hey! make more of this ;-)
More please this is the best channel on RUclips keep up the great work
I like the idea of a tactics spin-off; I love your Battle Breakdowns series!
Dark Helmet Vs Darth Vader (500 trillionth attempt)
Spartan Abrams don't be so entitled, he probably has to sift through hundreds of request comments
The Hypest what do you mean by entitled? I've lost track on how many trikes I've suggested it. All I know is it's been about a year and it's been widely supported
It says trillionth attempt because i've requested it a trillion times, i've lost count, so I made a number. Calm your tits. Also work on your grammar before posting all over the internet
Creations No, you do. You clearly can’t recognise basic sarcasm, and get hurt over the smallest things.
I love RUclips comment threads
I loved it, please keep them coming, I'd love some on ground combat as well, all factions.
Love u eck keep up the battle breakdowns mate👍🏻
Mr. Hand the rebel alliance is miles ahead of the empire in starfighters
Mr. Hand the X-wing is miles ahead of most tie fighters. Tie’s are cheap and poorly made and don’t have Shields unlike the X-Wings and Y-Wings. One of the reason the rebel alliance and later the new Republic were able to win the galactic civil war was due to their amazing star fighters.
These layouts are AWESOME. Seriously, this sort of work goes above and beyond other lore channels.
I really am digging this, keep doing it
From one corgi owner to another....
Interesting idea for a series (I like it!), but I would enjoy seeing some more detailed analysis as to why these techniques work, and how and why the Rebels (and the Empire?) exploit the various attributes of their ships and crews to employ these measures.
I would love to see how the rebel flagships strategize, and their tactics. I would assume since the rebel fleet won by hit and runs, and most their ships deal with speed.
My favorite starfighter tactic is the drift counter-attack maneuver. it is as it sounds, flip within your drift maintaining your speed and heading, maximize forward shields and shot your pressure in mid-drift and returning to you heading as if nothing happened. However, this has only been done in Wing Commander with mostly the Excaliber fighters.
i love those videos they help me getting better at empire at war
Keep up with the good vids. Would love to see some ground tactics breakdown
Love your videos man keep it up
Finaly a video i was looking for
Awesome video dude, I would love to see a similar breakdown of space combat tactics in Halo, particularly high-risk high-reward strategies like the Keys loop.
Nice explaination, I’d love to see one about capital ships and small ships
Dude he deserves more subs his content is fantastic
This is really great!
More please and i love that outro
Another good video by you.... again.
#yeahtheoldintroisback
This is the good stuff! If you could do the same thing for other media, like what the UNSC would do against the Covenant, that would be really cool! Talking about the different elements of fictional militaries really comes to life when you show how they were used in action.
We need more of this ekheart
Great video! "Hey, make more of this!" Please
I thought it was a great video and I would definitely love to see more of them
Think you can do a comparison video?
Who's the more effective soldier 'A Pilot and there TITAN' from the TITANFALL series or 'A Spartan II with an AI' from the Halo series
Masso 2010 I love this
their titan*
Pilot with their Titan for life boi
I like this series. Please continue
I would very much like to see more of these.
good shit man. keep it up
Love the tactics idea
I love this series the most out of anything
please make follow up, this is awesome!
Love the outro
i like this, one interesting addition is when you discuss a tactic you might briefly mention how the opposing side could counter this tactic, would make an interesting contrast
Awsome vid, nice outro and make more pls
Ecks is easily the best fucking youtube channel on this whole platform. Anyone who disagrees is blind, deaf, and just stupid because I've never seen anyone that can compare to Ecks besides maybe Philip Defranco. Eckhartsladder literally pours his heart into his videos and you can see that.
Hell yeah my boy ecks pinned me.
Love these. Always loved battle breakdowns. I ever make a runnin pro channel im gonna have a ton of stuff like this.
You forgot about discount Mothras kamikazi run against Snokes mega Star Destroyer.. Even though you did say fighters an small craft here so i realize that may be coming in a future vid
Hey Eckhart these videos are fantastic but can you do more of the older starship compares or lore videos
I like #1 nova flare. If I remember correctly in the X-Wing flight sim games (90s) you had to take down the shields 100% before targeting subsystems like weapon emplacements/etc. I really like the idea of a concentrated barrage taking out the shields in a local area.
I really enjoyed this video and all others in this series. One thing that you did not cover about the Bel Iblis Maneuver was the reason it was so genius. As the X-Wings formed a tight screen in front/ around the A-Wings, the drive trails of the A-Wings were hidden by those of the X-Wings. The X-Wing drive trails also prevented enemy sensors from detecting the A-Wings. In some cases, this maneuver was developed for purposes more related to the Nova Flair, having torpedoes launched behind the X-Wings, allowing the drive trails of the torpedoes to be hidden by those of the X-Wings.
Good review and it always did puzzle me why it wasn't until The Last Jedi that the tactic of using a ship as a form of a bomb wasn't used before. I'd like to see a compare and contrast video between Rebel/New Republic tactics and Imperial/First Order tactics. Keep up the good and innovative work brother.
We have seen it before In the Clone wars TV show, also in Rebels (Hyperspacing through a hanger to destroy it, but the ship wasn't destroyed)
Definitely make more of that
Yes please make more!
Great videos!! How about we talk about what would make the perfect star fighter or set of Star fighters.
I love how the weakness to starfighters in the Empire cap ships got named TRD (Trench Run Disease).
All ships present at the battle of coruscant vs the byss fleet during shadow hand
I love this idea
Thats remindes me of the times when i played the x-wing game series, good old time.
I defnitly looking forward to see mor of these videos from you Eckhard!
Please make more!!! I love your videos make a videos about ship tactics !!!
yup keep these coming!
I've used most of those on X3 and for roughly the same reasons the rebels used them. Please release the capital ship vid
Great vids.not ashamed to say I watch the battle breakdowns out of interest first. Then rewatch so I can adapt it to strategy games or X3 when I need too.
Yes! More please!
Hey Eckhart, I’ve been watching your versus series for a while, and I really enjoy your videos! You’ve said many times that any suggestions would be great, so I wanted to suggest my own idea. As for others reading this, there are spoilers for Issac Asimov’s Foundation below.
I read the Foundation series a while ago and one of my favorite villains of all time was in the second book. He is called the Mule. He’s a mutant with the power to control people’s emotions and their minds, and he was misunderstood as a kid for his physical deformities, so he wanted revenge on the Galaxy. I thought this was similar to Palpatine’s goals, but different too. It would make sense to me that there was some inspiration from the Mule’s character in there, but that’s just theory. What impressed me about this character was that he disguised himself as the Mule’s clown/slave who had been broken by the Mule’s mental powers, when in reality, he himself was the Mule. When a bad guy makes you think he’s just broken and sad, and in reality is pulling strings behind everyone’s back, that’s one scary bad guy. His main weakness at the end of the second book is having compassion for the one person who has ever cared about him, a woman named Bayta who is one of the protagonists of the story.
So how about the Mule vs Palpatine? I think that would be a pretty neat comparison. If one character dominates the other too much, you could even improvise with extra characters if you needed too. Perhaps you could back up the Mule with psychohistorians from the book or Palpatine with Count Dooku and other Sith. Or you could even do a fight between the psychohistorians and the Jedi Knights.
To conclude, I love your content, and keep up the good work! :)
Love to see more please
Great vid! Your thoughts on Colonial and Cylon starfighter tactics in reimagined Battlestar Galactica?
For some reason I want you to do a series were you look at organizations in Star Wars and analyze them and say how you would improve them
A long time ago I use to play a lot of X Wing Vs TIE Fighter with my housemates. One thing we found was US WWII fighter tactics worked well for the rebels. Don't get in a turning war with a TIE fighter or interceptor (unless in an A Wing). Instead make sure you you stay near your wingman and if a TiE ends up on your tail turn towards him (and set you shields to the rear). He can set his shields to the front and take the TIE out head on as anything less than a TIE advanced is unlike to survive that.
You should really do more of this.
Please do these for all factions, that’d be kickass
after every vid i just need to watch the entire part with the doggo
yes yes yes 1000 times yes do these more. capital ship warfare and ground tactics for factions !
You realy sould make more of these😉😉😉
*likes* Hey, make more of this!
Loving the battle breakdowns. They're so interesting to watch.
Cool vid! You've been on a role lately
Good video
would love to see analysation of other tactics
These videos are good, but I’d love some more starship versus.
The A-wing slip is my favorite coordinated tactic.
Keep this going, every change you've made on your channel has led to some great videos and great possibilities. My advice: famillairize yourself with a few more franchises (when you can of course.)
To quote “Hey make more of this” please
Loved the in depth names and shit
YEAHHHH!!!! DO MORE OF THIS DUD XD
Could you do another Versus video with a comparison of the TIE Hunter and B-Wing?
Seeing ecks avatar: speaking of DOGfighting haha!
Vader: 'be careful not to choke on your aspirations'
I know the A-Wing taking out the Executor was like the big hype moment but sometimes when I watch it looks like it wasn't totally intended.
Hey. Do more of this. That is all, thank you. :)
Hay, make more of this.
Yea, I'd like to see more of these, but don't just limit these tactic videos to Star Wars. I'd like to see you cover Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Stargate, and Halo along with other franchises I can't seam to think of right now.
Always love your videos Eck, Keep it up.
