To those who wonder how it works. The black background she added to the picture is there to hide the white spray paint layer which just adds the non transparent effect to the picture and because of she printed the picture out mirrored the front of the print has to be attached to the surface instead of sliding it with the back on.
Thank you very much for this! I painted my guitar’s headstock black and wanted to put a new label on it. Using this method I was able to do this and it looks awesome!
I think it's because the black box filled in the clear space, and the white spray paint went behind the colors, basically making the color images on a "white" waterslide. Because of the black box, the white spray paint didn't show where it wasn't wanted. That's what I figured in my head anyway lol, so I typed it out here so it would make sense to me lol
I'll help explain well I'll try. When she printed it the music notes doesn't have black behind them like the rest of the empty space. The white spray paint is what is making the music notes show up...they have to have a white background to show...the black ink keeps the white from showing on the black parts though. So the black she printed is covering up the white sprain paint except where the notes are the white is what is making those show. I really hope this helps haha If you didn't have the black ink you'd have music notes with white all around them after she sprayed it.
I'll add if you was doing it on black glitter this wouldn't work you'd see the whole outline. Whatever color tumbler it is that's the color you need to print around the words for this to work. Black is about the only one I'd really do this method with honestly.
Ok, so you mirror your image and then spray paint over the top with the white, then lay it down and the white spray pint is still face up? Because the back of my waterslide is not sticky. If that makes sense?
worked like a charm!! Just don't forget to mirror the text. it needs to be flipped horizontally so it shows up the right way! I was struggleing to put a decal on a guitar headstock I was redoing. I painted it black and the decal didn't show up until I did this, ☺
What a fantastic idea! I have used the white vinegar to trick, bbut this will save me so much time and also allow me to do intricate waterslide designs on dark cups!
@@CourtneysCustoms but what if I have white paper ( I bought both clear & white) should I skip the white Flat part? & just turn my background shape black?

Maybe not sure but you may be able to save as PDF when going to print as a print to cut, save to your personal vault. Then save as png or jpeg or whatever. Then when uploading to design space -try the option to remove back ground? Worth a try and saves you time if it works....
Would this work on every dark color like navy blue or would I have to do the background color navy blue to match? And if I have black detailing for the navy blue surface, would that be affected? i suspect it would be.

Ok, if you have an image with writing then you need to reverse the image before you print? And thank you so much for this video! Oh you just opened an entire new door for me!!!
Ingenious! But it makes me wonder if this would work: Instead of using black ink on your printer, print out the original waterslide and then use black (or other dark color same as tumbler) spray paint?
The white paint was so the music notes would show up bright on the cup. If you would spray with black spray paint I would think they would not show up very bright.
I just found this video! Awesome hack! Can you use this trick on other color tumblers i.e teal, blue, by putting a matching or close to matching background on the back of the image?
Ok odd question but do you think this would work with spray paint instead? Like if I didn't want to use a that black ink. Could we seal them then do a later of black spray paint over the white or vis versa?
I am set up to try sublimation/printing/waterside but I have not tried either yet 😬 so please educate me as to the final process of the waterside application. What do you seal it with? Thank youuu
If you didn’t spray it white, it would be just applying clear waterslide on a black tumbler so the colored music notes wouldn’t show up on the black tumbler. By spraying white you are essentially making your clear waterslide sheet into a white waterslide sheet by giving it a base coat behind the image.

edit: i found the answer, thanks again for the hack!
What’s the answer? I’m going to try this on a dark grey.. also do we have to use the white spray?
@@davidaschejbal7955 put a dark gray square background behind your image or words, flip the image & spray with clear then white paint. this is only for clear waterslide paper
Love it!! All of your videos. Question- I am so stuck. I glittered and epoxy 10 cups, ready to put my water slide on. I just had to fine sand them to get the bumps from chunky glitter still a little bumpy …. BUT if I put water slide on the sanded area the color will be dull. (I made that mistake once. Putting waterslide on sanded tumbler..) Is there anything I can do besides epoxying all these cups again after fine sanding before applying my water slide??? Any help I would appreciate. Thank you!
Thank you!! And no unfortunately the only thing I can tell you is to epoxy again!
Great tutorial. Just discovered your channel. Before I attempt this I need to gather all supplies. What kind of printer do you have? Also, what is that little blue gadget you used to smooth out bubbles and/or get rid of excess water? Thanks
Thanks!! I use an Epson expression home inkjet. And it’s a silicone squeegee
Genius! Was your cup epoxied before you placed it? And did the lines totally and completely disappear with epoxy like we're used to with clear waterslide?
Thank you!! The cup was not epoxied, and the lines faded very much!! I did end up taking some black acrylic paint and dabbing it around the image. Once epoxied it all blended 100%
That was really cool!!!!
Thanks !!
