    The strider and gunship fights would have been less annoying if valve kept the tau cannon to damage synths and added grenade cooking to make it easier to aim them

    Ravenholm and Highway 17. only reason Highway 17 beats water hazard is because Highway 17 is just a longer, drawn out version of Water Hazard.

      Im not a big fan of Highway 17 either, but at least you can explore in peace there without any Hunter Chopper on your ass. Hway 17 would be my 3rd least favourite chapter though.
      Ravenholm imo is a good chapter, but we could make the argument that its a chapter that exists because Valve really wanted to include an "horror" level

    The narrative chapters really aren't that bad on a first playthrough, but what makes them suck is when you do subsequent playthroughs. They plummet the replay value of the Half-Life 2 games, because when you reach those areas on subsequent playthroughs, you spend all that time just basically waiting for the narrative to end. I've found so many weird bugs in those areas solely because of crouch jumping around and getting into places I really shouldn't be at in order to pass the time.

      @supertuna123  Год назад +3

      100% agree on the replayability part, and I also think that the dialogues try to latch HL2 to its HL1 roots in a forced and not cool way

    • @xweert711
      @xweert711 Год назад +1

      @@supertuna123 yeah, it definitely does feel forced; it was a cool idea to turn each Scientist archetype into an actual character but it was always weird with how forced the connection was. I'm glad Black Mesa makes that gap between the two games a lot less strange at least

    I’m in the camp who really liked Water Hazard. I thought the devs did a really good job of breaking up the normal combat sections with vehicle sections. The Airboat was a lot of fun to drive. I just really wish that they would’ve added Bullsquids as enemies to break up the normal Combine encounters and make the game feel more like Half Life. Apparently Valve cut them because play testers got scared to go in the water. Even though I really liked it I can definitely understand why others didn’t like it and respect that view.
    As for the other chapter you mentioned I thought it was a lot of fun for the most part. I definitely died a lot in that one room with the turrets. Although, I agree wholeheartedly that the Striders were not fun to fight and took way too many rockets and did too much damage. In Episode 2 they were pretty fun to fight because those bombs could take them out instantly. I much prefer the Gunships because they don’t take nearly as many rockets. Sure, they can be annoying if they shoot down your rockets. But that can easily be circumvented by just using the tracker to loop your rockets around them.
    I think my favorite chapter in Half Life 2 was probably Ravenholm because I liked the oppressive atmosphere, the way they introduced zombies types was cool (unfortunately they get repetitive in later chapters because HL2’s enemy variety is so low), I liked the physics based combat, and I liked Father Grigori. It was a lot of fun. Probably one of the few chapters that I like replaying because most of the game is super scripted which drags down replayability. Scripting works super well for a First play through.
    I think it’s funny how when people talk about the worst Half Life levels/chapters they almost always build them up as being this horrible slog that will not end and is super repetitive. When in reality they’re usually just mediocre at worst with a few parts that drag down the experience. Fortunately they’re never the Library from Halo CE or Cortana from Halo 3 levels of bad. The Flood work great when having them also fight Covenant, but the missions where you only fight them are a repetitive slog.
    More on the topic of Halo, I really hope that I and others like Act Man (I saw you in the comments of one of the response videos to his Arena Shooter video talking about how bunny hopping isn’t super hard to master. All I can say about the original one is just wow. I honestly really hope the Guy continues to make atrociously bad videos like that one because whenever he gets ANY pushback it sends him off the edge because his tough guy persona is just a mask that hides the insecure egotistical manchild he truly is. If he keeps this up he’ll become a lolcow. The fact that his video was so badly researched and completely falls apart when you do 5 minutes of research really calls into question if his other videos are even accurate) haven’t built up impossibly high expectations about the games being these flawless masterpieces and pinochles of storytelling. When you critically analyze the story it’s kind of dumb and the characters are mostly just archetypes. The reason people praise it is because it has super good presentation by having great voice acting and memorable dialogue. The music is top tier and enhances the overall feel. The gameplay is pretty fun with lots of cool enemies and weapons that have a clear role in the sandbox. And lots of neat set pieces. There’s a lot of books but they tend to range in quality and are only really worth reading if you’re also pretty big into Halo and want to experience more of the universe. The enemies also work super well together making it so fights will play out differently depending on who you choose to take out first. What you should do is wait for the MCC to go on sale and only buy the ones you know you’ll want. Don’t buy Infinite because the multiplayer is free. The campaign was fun but simply is not worth $60. It will also only make sense if you’ve played all the other games including the rts spin-offs.

      1. I agree that they should have added bullsquids.
      2. I agree with you that ravenholm is a good chapter and all.
      3. Halo sucks in my opinion.

      The thing with Water Hazard is that it's the combat section breaking up the normal driving sections since you drive more than you are on youir feet (perhaps its a 60/40), but I praised the combat parts because they indeed do a good job in mixing things up, however the Gunship on my ass is just too annoying.
      Ep. 2 improves on a lot of weak and not so well thought parts of HL2 and I'll make a vid on that in the future.
      And yea even though these are my choices as the "Worst chapters" in HL2 they might be worst but they are not entirely bad per se, in fact I gave Water Hazard 6.5/10.
      Act Man is just a console gamer and from that video its clear he never spent more than 10 hours playing Arena FPS online. About Halo, one day I'll try it, I need to make up for it in one way or another

    The chapters that suck is entanglement, Citadel chapter, Red letter day, black mesa east. No questions.

    • @supertuna123
      @supertuna123  Год назад +1

      The Citadel chapter is nothing exceptional but I saved it because the setting looks cool, even though the upgraded Gravity Gun makes the combat a bit too repetitive since its just you grabbing or throwing combines at the walls, using the energy balls makes it a little more fun though and I find Striders so annoying that I had to include the chapter I chose

    if there's one chapter i really hate and love, it's Ravenholm. I hate it because it changes the HL2 formula and it makes it into some kind of survival horror and at the same time i love it for that, it changes the formula and makes the player feel insecure in a game where you can run through hordes of humans under alien commands

    • @supertuna123
      @supertuna123  Год назад

      I really think that Ravenholm feels as if it was "forced" inside the game, the setting is too ghastly and stereotypically horror for the HL2 atmosphere, but it's a fun chapter to play, it introduces the Gravity Gun and creates a fun environment to play around with the physics and HL1 too had some horror elements too so even though it feels forced imo its a good chapter
