  • Where would we be without the Aeolian mode (AKA the natural minor scale)? In some namby-pamby universe where every song is all sunshine and roses and nothing bad ever happens? Nay, I say. Sometimes it's good to feel dark and moody-and for that, we have the minor scale.
Technically there are three minor scales, natural minor, melodic minor and harmonic minor, but we're only going to get into the most common of these-the natural minor scale-in this series at least.

Don't change a thing. You are a great teacher. Humming the notes you reminded me of my college theory teacher dr walker. Thank you Eddie & string joy !!

Great lessons. I stumbled on the tune of "Day Tripper" while noodling around on this scale. Thanks!

These are all great lessons and I have already incorporated many aspects into my 3 hour a day practice! I am studying theory but haven't gone into the modes (beyond learning all the major scales and how to convert scales to chords) which leads to my question! If I decide to write a song or chord progression in the say Mixolydian (or any of the 6 modes that aren't major) how to I convert the notes to chords and are the same chords interchangeable like Major 7th for Major chords and so on...?

Thank you for all of your hard work but please get rid of the distortion and use clean, clear notes.

I’m not using any distortion. What you’re likely hearing is dissonant frequencies of some of the notes of the scale when I drone the low E.
