  • Offering a minor, yet slightly brighter flavor, the Dorian mode adds depth and emotion. Don't believe me? Listen to Santana/Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va," or Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage," or The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby." In today's lesson, we talk about how to use it to add depth to your playing.

    Re: your "mistake:" my takeaway here is to be sure I know the chord progression and listen to what others are playing, e.g. bass, keys, for how they are interpreting the melody, as that note *may* work. To a previous post, i think that I'll play progressions to songs i like into my looper and wander around through different modes and listen for what I think works. Great series! I'm so enjoying it.

    I’m glad you’re doing modes. I learned them decades ago and never really used them. But now I’m using them more. Of course my classical repertoire is loaded with modal structures. But I’m now really improvising there. Any tips on improvising is welcome.

    Liking these video Lessons a lot! A couple of things: perhaps provide a chord progression or two that would work well with each of these modes/moods? And: for a future video Lesson, talk/explain about the Nashville Number System for chords and how they are used in songs and music charts! Thank You! LhN

    That's a beautiful mode...and that Telecaster sounds killer! What gauge are you using? I love how they don't sound floppy.

    It sounds like it's part of some kind of raga thing... just a different resolution. Some songs use that.

    Does this work over any chord progression in the key of E? How do you know when a particular mode will work?

    • @VeloVagabond
      @VeloVagabond 6 месяцев назад +1

      No, E Dorian would have the same chords as the key of D major, but with Em as your root chord (the i - chord).
