I saw them only once on the All my Life tour…I’ve seen Van Halen 16 times live and Eddie is God but that one and only Foo show I was at is still the Greatest Live show I’ve ever been to…
I listened to nirvana and then foo fighters growing up, my dad loved their music too. My dad passed away 3 years ago. . He was kind of an amateur astronomer, and obsessed with ufo's. He explained to me what foo fighters were. Just strengthens the connection between this music and my memory of my dad. Keep on keepin' on guys. Much love from MN!
His contribution to rock with foo fighters, in my opinion, is bigger then whit Nirvana. And, just the fact of him be on those two fucking legend bands, is something BIG. Really big.
It's weird, but, I think this is my favorite Foo Fighters song ever. Just because of how Raw and how Real it is. This is Dave's song, about his life, and he's pouring his entire soul into this rocking song. It's everything a Foo Fighters song should be; Loud guitars, loud fucking chorus, heavy riff, and heavy climax. Perfection.
Taylor, you rocked every time you sat at your drum set. The world has lost a true legend full of enthusiasm, humour and zest for life. We miss you already. Thoughts are with the band, your family and friends 😢
My Favorite Foo Fighters song, and one of my favorites by anyone, ever ... Best Part? When Guest Guitarist Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick comes in after the second verse and the chorus and rips through those Power Chords starting at 2:56 ... Fantastic
I really wish that Dave becomes appreciated as a rock ledge do one day... I know FF fans already appreciate how much of not just a guitarist/vocalist he is, but from being a drummer previously, a songwriter, a director, and all round creative genius. I mean playing every single instrument on a full album himself, I doubt many other artists can say that. I know his fans already see him like that and he loves his fans no matter what, but Dave is honestly this generations musical God and I’d love for other artists to see him like that, the ones that don’t already ❤️
Molly MacDonald to be honest both Dave and Kurt’s music has helped me get thru so much in my life. When I was a teenager and angry at the world, and everything around me and also having depression Kurt’s music helped me thru those times and now Daves music is helping me come out of a major rut in my life.
I have appreciated Dave Grohl and the rest of the of foo fighters since I was 4years old and went to see him when I was 5 and Dave Grohl has been my favourite singer and foo fighters as my favourite band
he still spots for other bands that need a drummer now and then. what gets me is he pretty much does everything by ear. that makes for a great producer too. he had a few lessons, got the guitar figured out a little, then just ran with it, then he learned to play drums by watching and listening to Rush tracks. not sure about his singing, but he went from keeping the beat to being the heart and still helping out other bands. Dave is, if nothing else, one hell of a guy.
I've listened to this song a couple of times now, but just now I realised how powerful and beautiful Dave's lyrics are. The guy is simply a legend, and so as the legacy this band will leave for us
Foo Fighters Lyrics "Something From Nothing" Give me the flammable life I'm cold as a match Ready to strike So here I go... Here lies a city on fire Singing along The arsonist choir Now here I go... It started with a spark And burned into the dark Now here I go... There is a river I found Into the wild Under the ground So here I go... A button on a string And I heard everything Now here I go... What a great groove. Slow, but intense build up! Also, love the dio inspiration with the holy diver! "Fuck it all, I CAME FROM NOTHING!" This song proves why the foo fighters are one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace our stages and studios!
I dont know but to me Foo Fighters songs have the most motivational lyrics ever. This song and, "The Best of you" in particular. WHenever I want to feel like I could acomplish anything in the world I come back to these songs

This is the track they played for my Army unit when we returned home from Iraq. We ran into the building, no idea what to expext. Hundreds of cheering and crying family and friends. I'll hold this song close as a welcome home forever.
First time I heard Sonic Highways I actually didn't like it, but after listening to it a few times it eventually became my favourite Foo Fighters album. The songs are fantastic, and I love that every song has relation to certain cities in America, it makes for an interesting, amazing album.
Don’t know why but this song gives me a sense of reassurance and comfort when I’m licking my wounds after life gives me a setback or two. Maybe it’s musical arrangement, buildup of the verses or something but it just gives you that juice to keep going you know. Refusing to give into setbacks life tends to hand your way. “Something from nothing”
Most people argue this song is a huge clusterfuck of sounds and that lyrics don't make any sense, but after watching Sonic Highways Chicago episode, the whole lyrics make so much sense and the sound as well. Everything comes from what's come before, the Muddy Water reference, it's all so meaningful. It might not be a super rock hit everyone was waiting for, but in the end this is one of the most meaningful ones, the creation of this record is a composition of the music and feelings of an entire city, that is just fucking brilliant. And also Rick Nielsen is in it which is freaking amazing! You go Foo Fighters I can't wait for the next city covered in Sonic Highways.
Taylor's drumming was so flawless that you can't even hear drums in the song at all because it perfectly blends with the beat and music so eloquently. Now that is skill. There's keeping with the beat and creating a beat, then there's Taylor. His drumming was sorcery. He's making sounds I didnt even know were possible with drums. So seamless. RIP Taylor
+nnathangrahamm I said this the first time I heard this song, and everyone looked at me like I was insane. P.S. no disrespect to Dio or anything, but KSE covered that song so much better than the original.
You know what amazes me about These Guys? Is that they don't take this as serious a normal Rock band would. That's one of the many reasons why this band is so great and so popular. Before being anything else, they like being themselves and enjoy playing music just for fun instead of doin' it just for money. Who would name their band "Foo Fighters" and still be fuckin awesome? This song is wonderful, and i hope the rest of the album is just as good.
too all the people bitching about "They ripped off holy diver", if you remember, they are making each song in a different city, the point is to get inspiration and also a sense of what music was made in that particular city in the song, so basically, putting in that riff was the hole point, because Dio was huge, i think they are smart enough to know they were playing a similar riff to holy diver, considering they are professional musicians :)
Dave is intense. That is what makes him great. He is punk, he is pop, he is classical... he is simply the very best. He is far better than Zep and the Beatles, but today's culture does not get it. We are so priviledged to have him now. Go see him live often. These days will not be here forever.
My Dad got me into this band, which consequently got me into Nirvana, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil and Bring me the Horizon. Thank you so much Dad; I owe you one
It really shows, when you consider that the very first foo fighters album was played solely by dave grohl. No band, no bass player, no drummer, no guitarist, just dave. Such immense talent cannot ever actually be described, and I love the foo fighters, have loved em ever since I first listened to my hero way back in 1997 when I was 9 years old. That song defined my life. This band has defined my whole life.
I've never been a Foo Fighters fab, but I watched the entire Sonic Highways documentary on HBO and found a great respect for David Grohl. Plus, I have to admit this song kicks ass. And this is coming from a Slayer fan
Foo Fighters inspired me to go all in with my music because Dave was once just like me, an artist without many listening. And now he’s on top. I believe it will happen for me one day, Im not stopping when it does! 🧡
I know it's your opinion and that's cool but I couldn't disagree more. Most Foo Fighters stuff is too safe. Doesn't take enough risks. In my opinion the only rock masterpiece he wrote was Everlong. Everything else is too safe to make a lasting impression. Just my view though. Rock is pretty much dead at this point. Nobody makes good rock music anymore.
I hear ya. To me it seems like it's starting to make a comeback, ie The Black Keys, Dead Sara, Wolf Alice, etc. Hopefully it will gain steam with more rock being produced and not being made bland or just not getting heard because of record label bureaucracy.
In tears writing this comment, thinking about the single time I got to see these guys play in 2018. I am so grateful - we will never forget you Taylor. I can't imagine how the guys must feel, I'm still so shocked.
Everytime I randomly find this song I can’t believe how they go through like 4 decades of influential music. The build is what I anticipate and it never lets me down.
I don't care what anyone says i can hear a natural progression in Mr Dave's music and him maturing also! People just saying this is all power chords is stoopid! If you don't like it that is fair enough but why would you want a band to stay the same for ever? The arctic monkeys are another great example of watching a band mature and grow! The thing that i LOVE about the Foo Fighters is that there is no bullshit just love of what they do! Wasting light is my favorite album because i heard a leap in the product they have been creating, it went from great to one of the best rock albums of all time! Now please don't take that as gospel just my opinion! If they can top it for me my ears will gasm! I WILL EARGASM! Cheers you sexy music bastards :D
No matter what mood I'm in, this song just PUMPS me up... and I listen to Deathcore primarily. I feel like I'm in the video jamming out with them, and then once that like "fuck it all, I came from nothing" happens it's head bang time. Such a good song, such a good band. RIP Taylor.
First time hearing this and first thing that came to my mind is Dave's interview where he said something like, ' holy diver is one of his all time favourite and the drums on the song is one of the best drumming ever'.
Spun me out seeing Patrick Smear the other day in Sydney, I still remember the days before Dave and Pat started the foo fighters, still have trouble compression of Dave having time to chill and taking about cartoons in the 1920's alien spaceship called foo fighters
Though it's hard for me to pick a absolute favorite Foo song this one definitely comes to mind when I think about favorites. Whenever I hit my Foo playlist this is the first one I go to
Dave: "Hey guys, what's the best part of any given Foo Fighters song?" Band: "The bridge?" Dave: "We're going to make a song that's only bridge, and it's gonna blow everyone's shit right out the door!"
Guillermo Rodríguez Isn't it also more the "special" part often placed between the second chorus and third verse? Like a basic song usually goes verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus or something.
I made a comment way back and it just irrupted into the fans saying he did it as a tribute. I call bullshit. But I had to delete my comment do to backlash. I agree man, just don't push it to hard. Not everyone knows music like you.
Dying... what a stunning and beautiful song. This is a pay it forward album nod to Rock and Roll how its supposed to be and sound. A mesh of modern, and classic melodies infused with hard, cold, good old fashioned rock and roll.
+Michael Swanton Just an over-rated paper-weight, anyways....real musicians & fans don't care about those dumb awards or that joke known as the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame"
In my humble opinion this is the most aggressive and the best Foo Fighter song I've ever heard. The plug noise in the solo was perfect, and the guitar tone was fucking beautiful. It really bit just right. Lyrics were incredible I would like to see what you guys would do if this song was the stylistic frame work for a whole album. Just an entire album of the heaviest Foo possible.. A Vulgar Display of Foo? Yea, you guys have my attention but if you did an album like this song, you would steal my soul.
+IPushHard lol Ive been getting some comments on my comment... Came by to say thanks ended up playing the video again... and DAM if that solo doesn't get me every time. I could seriously slice that short piece and just loop it for an hour! Glad that so many feel same on this! Maybe they even see a RUclips comment sometimes and are sharpening their picks like battle axes for just such an album? Why not? They have owned everything else already. May as well have some more fun and kick the dam wall down. Then watch all the industry ears perk up again! ahhh well, we can dream. Thanks
Dave Grohl is hands down without a doubt the greatest drummer to ever play guitar.
+Wade Wilson He just says fuck it and plays everything
+Wade Wilson Make that the best drummer to ever become a frontman.

Foo Fighters Lyrics
"Something From Nothing"
Give me the flammable life
I'm cold as a match
Ready to strike
So here I go...
Here lies a city on fire
Singing along
The arsonist choir
Now here I go...
It started with a spark
And burned into the dark
Now here I go...
There is a river I found
Into the wild

So here I go...
A button on a string

You have no choice you have to choose
Bid farewell to yesterday
Say goodbye I'm on my way
But in the end we all
Come from what's come before
So here I go...
Oh sweet ignition be my fuse

XBebopo Didn't know that :)
The part where he yells fuck it all I came from nothing just rattles me so good
Dave is intense. That is what makes him great. He is punk, he is pop, he is classical... he is simply the very best. He is far better than Zep and the Beatles, but today's culture does not get it. We are so priviledged to have him now. Go see him live often. These days will not be here forever.
He’s the vanguard of rock
This part and that guitar solo make me want to run through a brick wall
It's therapy to me
I "too" came from nothing!
My Dad got me into this band, which consequently got me into Nirvana, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil and Bring me the Horizon. Thank you so much Dad; I owe you one
Is ur dad age 28-33 yrs old? Same era as me
ME TOO!
One the best Foo Fighters songs of all time, and to watch this video and see Taylor drumming gives me goosebumps, he sure is missed.
you do what you have to do. Dave is a big inspiration I agree.
This is classic . I’m a hiphop head born and bred. This track is amazing. Dave is the man
The Dio type riff is cool. Wow! Also an appearance of Rick Nielsen
Yes! When i first heard this song i instantly remembered that holy diver riff
this album is so criminally underrated, it's insane
Everything from the Foo's is underrated. My personal fav is Wasting Light. As good as BIB or Hotel California or Rumors.
I just watched the making of this song. It has many layers, now I can appreciate the details a little more.
I'm going to miss him so much! Taylor was one of the best drummers ever! R.I.P Taylor
Hello there, How are you doing today? It’s nice connecting with you here.
So amazing these guys can keep on crafting rock masterpieces like this after 20 years. Wow!
Dave Grohl
Yeah, 'cause Dave would say that, lol. And they did get some help from Dio on this one.
ThePsvan Yeah I hope so. I've listened to the Black Keys and I think they're alright. I'll have to listen to Wolf Alice and Dead Sara.
lasoogneypubes What about Green Day?
My dad made me listen to Foo Fighters ever since I was a kid. I'm 13 and I still enjoy this band.
its got a real nice beatles vibe to it in the verses
yesyesyesyes
yesss
That beautiful smile and amazing talent, will always be held in our hearts. 💜💜💜
Hi I recommend an alternative song called 'Don't Lie To Me' By Robert Nix
I love the slow burn of this song it just gradually amps up and up
Rest in Peace Taylor Hawkins, Truly a great musician who was gone too soon, May you rest in peace
Foo Fighters is by far one of the few bands that just kept getting better with time.
Descanse em Paz, meu héroi Taylor 😔😔
This man is a living legend .
When he screams: “I came from nothing” it gives me the chills. Amazing musical storyteller. YOU GOTTA READ HIS BOOK!!!
That's Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick. Not only can you see him in the shadows but you can hear him. Love it !
Dave was truly ment to be great no matter what through all challenges he prevailed to show the world how talented he really is.
How a man can come back again.. Again and again.... This is how
Incredible song! I fell in love after just one listening.
In tears writing this comment, thinking about the single time I got to see these guys play in 2018. I am so grateful - we will never forget you Taylor. I can't imagine how the guys must feel, I'm still so shocked.
Hello there, How are you doing today? It’s nice connecting with you here.
I still remember the day i saw the video for this song nearly 10 years ago,i was very excited.
I love videos like this, without a story, only with the musicians playing the music.
Cheers you sexy music bastards :D
just one song too and its old foo style people saying this suck are obviously people who have not heard the first 2 albumns
Adam Green
you heard the second track? really good to!
this song has such a great change of melodies and sounds! I freaking love it
This damned song...pulls me out of dark places every time I listen to it. So great.
me too
No matter what mood I'm in, this song just PUMPS me up... and I listen to Deathcore primarily. I feel like I'm in the video jamming out with them, and then once that like "fuck it all, I came from nothing" happens it's head bang time. Such a good song, such a good band. RIP Taylor.
I gotta say, that is the coolest music video ever, simple and artistic.
First time hearing this and first thing that came to my mind is Dave's interview where he said something like, ' holy diver is one of his all time favourite and the drums on the song is one of the best drumming ever'.
It's gonna be a long time before I can listen to any Foo's song without crying, a very long time
Hi I Recommend a Song Called 'Don't Lie to Me' by Robert Nix
Spun me out seeing Patrick Smear the other day in Sydney, I still remember the days before Dave and Pat started the foo fighters, still have trouble compression of Dave having time to chill and taking about cartoons in the 1920's alien spaceship called foo fighters
My favorite Foo fighters song by far!
Though it's hard for me to pick a absolute favorite Foo song this one definitely comes to mind when I think about favorites. Whenever I hit my Foo playlist this is the first one I go to
It’s all great, but the drums at 1:32 are forever engrained in my head. So smooth. RIP
Dave: "Hey guys, what's the best part of any given Foo Fighters song?"
Band: "The bridge?"
Dave: "We're going to make a song that's only bridge, and it's gonna blow everyone's shit right out the door!"
oh
jajajajajajajaja XDDDD
***** it's the part just before the chorus :)
Guillermo Rodríguez Isn't it also more the "special" part often placed between the second chorus and third verse? Like a basic song usually goes verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus or something.
Guillermo Rodríguez No that's the prechorus, bridge is the part after the second chorus usually, that's different from the verse/chorus/into/outro.
One of the most under-appreciated, most awesome-ess songs on this planet.
can't stop thinking about this tragedy, he wil be missed forever
01:30 onwards.... I can't be the only one hearing Holy Diver by Dio can I?
nope u are not..the influence from Holy Diver is high here...RJD will always be loved..
CritsTV I like everything about the song except that I keep wanting it to finish the riff....
CritsTV yep :D
I made a comment way back and it just irrupted into the fans saying he did it as a tribute. I call bullshit. But I had to delete my comment do to backlash. I agree man, just don't push it to hard. Not everyone knows music like you.
Sorry for the spelling.
Dying... what a stunning and beautiful song. This is a pay it forward album nod to Rock and Roll how its supposed to be and sound. A mesh of modern, and classic melodies infused with hard, cold, good old fashioned rock and roll.
You rock.
DrummerGAS NO! YOU ROCK! HELL YEA!
Shoulda won the grammy
I said the exact same thing. The guys that got it were decent but foo fighters was way better
+Scotty Cena Not really, Muse won a award for Best Rock Album and that's rock even though some songs were a bit in the poppy side.
+Michael Swanton Just an over-rated paper-weight, anyways....real musicians & fans don't care about those dumb awards or that joke known as the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame"
It should have. Alabama shakes is not even fucking rock. I'm so pissed off
Sonic highways and drones are both 7/10 albums but both bands can do much better, but that's just me
I still love you as much Foo Fighters........so awesome and so Canadian.......
In my humble opinion this is the most aggressive and the best Foo Fighter song I've ever heard. The plug noise in the solo was perfect, and the guitar tone was fucking beautiful. It really bit just right.
Lyrics were incredible
I would like to see what you guys would do if this song was the stylistic frame work for a whole album. Just an entire album of the heaviest Foo possible.. A Vulgar Display of Foo?
Yea, you guys have my attention but if you did an album like this song, you would steal my soul.
I couldn't agree more man.
+IPushHard Pretender is also quite aggressive.
+IPushHard Yeah I got the Pantera reference
the first 2 albums of the foo fighters were the best ones.
+IPushHard
lol Ive been getting some comments on my comment...
Thanks
3:05 Thats quite a Cheap Trick to throw Rick Nielsen in there with out telling anybody.
I was wondering how far down the comments I would have to go before someone noticed it. Old school cool.
@Leila Rose Asselin Where can I find that?
@Leila Rose Asselin He was also part of the Sound City documentary that Grohl did. And was on the Real to Reel album that went with it
I had to rewind it I thought I was tripping
So it was him. Saw the checkers and thought "wait, what, is that?" Cool!!!
Probably the only good rock band around still making music today. Respect to the foo fighters.
QotSA? Royal Blood?
Rival Sons?
420Leopard never heard of them.
Muse.
false. you're not looking hard enough. check out Lee Gallagher and the Hallelujah
The years go by, I can listen to you a thousand times, and I need to listen to you a thousand times more. Thank you for so much beauty. I miss Taylor
Taylor you were a legend, rock on cos you're gonna live forever a true rock n roll star 👆
Dave has many sides, and when you listen to his music you definitely get a glimpse into the deeper meaningful side. Both musically and lyrically.
Nothing more true, nothing tighter, no music better than that of a Foo Fighter.
Just love this song and the different riffs Different tempo's are awesome ... Love the lyrics ♥
