    Don't know if you got the thing about Dent's coin: it has two heads, it can be seen when he gives it to Rachel before cops lock him up. So, when he flips a coin he knows what he is going to do, and when he puts Joker's minion life on a flip its just intimidation tactics. When he gets burned though, the coin is damaged on one side, so now when Dent goes mental he indeed puts those life on flip of a coin, following Joker's preach that everything is chaos and only thing that decides things is chance.

  • @BadassRaiden
    @BadassRaiden 2 года назад +164

    I really think joker telling Bruce the wrong address was an absolutely remarkable subtlety into the character of Batman, of how Batman conducts himself, of Joker's opinion of Batman. He gave the opposite addresses because if Batman cares more about Gotham then he did Rachel - then he would have went to save Dent and would have ended up saving Rachel whom he wanted to actually save anyways. But Joker already understood batman's motives and knew he would go to save Rachel, which is why he said Batman was gonna break his one rule. He knew Batman would choose Rachel over Gotham, and in doing so end up saving Dent, and as a result Dent would go insane and Batman would have to kill him to stop him, all the while Batman thought it would be the Joker he would end up killing.

      well yes, it shows that he really isn't as moral as he likes to think which is one of the biggest things that joker tries to prove to batman. You just gotta drive someone far enough to where they choose to be selfish rather than be moral. Killing a boat of criminals isn't very moral but the alternative is inevitable death. Had they actually pressed the button, I think the civilian remote would have blown up its own ship just to prove the hypocrisy of the situation where the criminal throws out the remote yet the civilian is debating with a detonator in his hand whether he should press it or not and he's way more conflicted than the criminals. Joker never plays simply. The choice is also a punishment. Should batman choose love, he will lose it for not being a moral and saviour of the town. Should he choose whats best for the city, He will lose all the progress of what could be but keep his love, although he would've most likely been just as destroyed.

      It was a great plan, but the Joker was lucky that Dent got half his face burned off as well. I doubt that a man like that would go completely nuts after the woman he loved died. Combine his woman dying with his inability to possibly court more women, or the woman he chooses then yeah, I can see him going crazy like that. Especially since the “2 face” spirit was in him since he worked for internal affairs.
      I love the Joker’s negative arc however. He sees that the boats don’t explode, gets dissapointed for a very very brief moment, but then goes on to blow them up anyway. Just to make it seem like he was right all along.

    Aside from heath ledgers amazingly deranged and charismatic performance, what I love about this joker is the mystery surrounding him. He doesn’t have a backstory or origin, he’s more like a force of nature than a person. Even without superpowers, he’s a strategic genius, knows a lot about how people’s minds work, and clearly has some combat training. He also doesn’t have any weaknesses, he doesn’t have anything to lose and he doesn’t fear death. Even if he’s killed, it’s sort of a victory for him because his only goal is chaos.

      Yeah I think the reason why its one of the best is because of director Christopher Nolan, who just really made sure to make this movie as relatable to the audience as possible by having plenty of drama and character development in it. Personally I don't know what you guys think, but I can't stomach most comic book movies because I find them unrelatable and the characters too 2Dimensional to be able to draw any good lessons or morals from them. These kinds of movies require a lot of creative license in order to introduce this sufficiently into the plot and characters. Also trying as hard as you can to make the action 'more'' realistic rather than outlandish definitely helps this.

The detonation was supposed to happen as soon as the joker pushed the button but the timing on the explosion was off. Instead of stopping the scene, Heath Ledger stayed in character and kept clicking the button till the explosion finally happened. I'm trying to reconcile the assigning of 'criminal' to a vigilante who uses his incredible wealth to personally go after criminals, versus billionaires applying their wealth to other pet projects like medicine, politics, space travel, etc., rather than using a small portion of that wealth to elevate the lives of the employees who create that wealth in the first place and/or declining tax loopholes so tax revenue can be decided by more democratic (and less authoritarian) means.
      How is a vigilante any different than a billionaire who doesn't pay his workers a living wage or who would rather pay expensive lawyers to find loopholes to avoid paying taxes? Ain't no confusion, Vigilantism is legally a crime. However, we all know that in life exceptions can be made for special/unique cases, and because Batman helps Gotham and makes such an impact, it's left up to the Commissioner himself to decide morally what to do about Batman, praise him as an ally of justice, or chase him down for Vigilantism, or secretly do both.

    This movie was a gamechanger, it was so good. Like The Matrix you can see how movies were before and after each one. Because of this movie it showed how to make a super-hero movie while having the feel of a conventional movie. Everything about this movie is just phenomenal, the script, the acting the music (Hans Zimmer at his best).
    And last but not least Heath Ledger. What a performance. I never expected this from him. On par or even surpasses Jack Nicholson as the Joker. And btw speaking of Heath Ledger pls do me a favor and check out A Knights Tale, there you can see him in an innocent yet great role, fantastic movie.

    There's a fan theory that this version of the Joker is ex military and got his face mangled by an IED. He's comfortable with all kinds of weapons including RPGs, there's a kind of military precision to his seemingly chaotic plans, and his "truckload of soldiers" comment may be a kind of confession.

    • @indio4-215
      @indio4-215 2 года назад +1

      Plus, his comment to Batman in the interrogation room of "never start with the head, the victim gets all fuzzy, he can't feel the next--" is rather suspect. It may suggest he's familiar with conducting and or receiving interrogations. And to add onto this, perhaps he wasn't just a normal soldier, but rather black ops or CIA, And that may explain why he has no matches on fingerprints, dental, identity, or anything. Definitely a possibility, but I'm pleased that the Joker's original identity and background (and of how he came to be the Joker) is deliberately kept secret, makes him even more threatening and appealing that way.

    Two notes that I haven't seen brought up that you may like:
    a) the infamous Hospital scene, when the Joker is walking away and the explosions stop; The pyrotechnics ACTUALLY were mistimed, the entire crew was freaking out, everything Heath does was improvised [the rattling and banging of the controller, signs of frustration] but the surprise of the explosion was very real.
    2: The older gentleman at Bruce's party that the Joker first threatens is Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Senator who was so enamored with Batman he requested to be a victim in the movie [I think I heard that he also helped personally fund the film, but I'm 100% sure of that]

    • @TrackpadProductions
      @TrackpadProductions 2 года назад +1

      The first isn't true. Nolan talked about the scene in the DVD BTS extras - the purpose of the pause in the explosions was so that Ledger could safely walk out the building as it was exploding. Every part of that sequence was planned ahead of time.

She had never seen him in full makeup or heard his voice as the Joker and she was genuinely terrified of him. Also, the hospital scene with the explosives wasn't supposed to happen like that. The pyrotechnics malfunctioned and when the explosion didn't continue, Ledger played it off in character.

I was just blown away. When the movie came out in theaters, a buddy of mine had a pirated version of the movie on DVD, and let me borrow it.
