I'm so glad you two had the balls to react to this. Thank you. I've been a fan of Thiers since 86

I interviewed singer/bassist Pete Steele when I was 16 the year this record came out (1987). I did it for my high school newspaper. I was late coming in, I found my mother talking to him on the phone which was sort of funny. Regarding Carnivore, I was a huge fan of their two albums. They didn't tour nor really leave New York City due to Steele's good-paying job with the New York Parks Department. The album from which the song came, "Retaliation", is considered to be an early incarnation of the Crossover genre which fused hardcore punk with metal.

This track is genius 😂 I was laughing so hard when Steele yelled “Adolf Christ!”
“Swear to the holy swastifix” 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Since you asked so nicely, young man, this old Brooklyn metalhead responds thusly:
At least in the 80's Lamour's / CBGB's / NYHC scene, Carnivore ruled. They were one of a few bands (Cro-Mags, Crumbsuckers, DRI, Biohazard, SOD) that got the skinheads and headbangers happily moshing together, as one.
*fondly looks back... tells kids to get off goddam lawn*
Incidentally, Type O Negative's never-can-be-loud-enough "We Hate Everyone" was a response to the meatheads who somehow took "Jesus Hitler" seriously (????) as a White Power anthem (for idiots).
You two are great. Liked, subscribed and banged that head that doesn't bang.

The leader, bassist and vocalist of this band is Peter Steele who later founded "Type O Negative" band. I don't think that they are a very popular band but they were quite known within the 80s underground metal scene and more specifically when it comes to the so called Crossover thrash genre which is basically a fusion of Thrash metal and Hardcore punk. About the lyrics, Peter Steele was very well known for having a sick and twisted black sense of humour so his lyrics should be taken with a grain of salt. But it is also true that he was such a genius that he was able to inject into the black sense of humor of his lyrics a lot of depth and seriousness at the same time which made those lyrics quite philosophical in a sense

Never thought I’d see anyone doing a reaction to Carnivore. Outstanding! Straight outta Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn USA. Pete Steele, Louie Beateaux, Keith Alexander, Marc Carnivore. Both albums - Carnivore and Retaliation - are MFing masterpieces. Check out the song Ground Zero Brooklyn. This band was indeed prominent in the NYHC scene back in early and mid 80’s. Got to see their reunion gig at L’Amour in Brooklyn 1994. Sick show. 😎

Cool. Cool. Yeah I voted just because of the name. Didn’t know what to expect but cool-for boys music. 😁

There's a video of this with the lyrics, it's actually a very geniously written fictional story song you should check that one out.

    ::APPLAUSE::
Living in today's world of reactionary, knee-jerk, outrage-driven nonsense, you were able to enjoy the goddam song because YOU GOT THE FUCKING JOKE. Thank you Jesus.
    - Good call on the Black Sabbath vibe, Pete Steele was a huge fan. In "Pyretta Blaze" he smoothly shifts from Black Sabbath to The Beatles, his other favorite band.
    - With JH he did the undoable: wrote his very own "Iron Man". And unlike the original, the funny is intentional.
    - That main riff CRUSHES.
Disclosure: As a member of The Tribe, I fully endorse "Jesus Hitler", particularly at volumes that leave you a bit deaf afterwards. Reich Undt Roll!

Well that was... interesting. Cool faux-Sabbath grind. Not so sure about the vocals tho.

Think you're reading far too much into something that isn't there. Musically, lyrically and vocally very Neanderthal. That said, I actually voted for this. As bad as this is, it's still better than Van Morrison!

That's the point. Peter was a fusion of instinct, genuineness and brilliance forged into one on high level. An original and true primordial nature freak force
