Giving a 93 year old that much sugar and butter is really healthy! Great choice!

@@asarlazar973 At 93, she can have whatever the heck she wants. Good for you, Pastor Lee, for being a kind son. Asar, think about what you said. At 93, it's time to enjoy anything and everything you want. Exactly how long do you think avoiding sugar and butter will extend this lady's life? Wow. One of the most foolish things I've read in a long time.

    • @DivaInTheWoods

There's a fine line with the boiling step (which is why I'm in the comments). I've made these many times with inconsistent results. I've read humidity can affect results. Since I live in GA, that may be the issue.
I can say that I've had to scrap them back into the pot to boil a bit longer when they won't set up. When I remove from heat, I stir like mad until I can feel it's more difficult to stir. I then spoon them on to wax paper immediately.
I ultimately think the boiling time is the biggest factor. Hopefully, someone will respond with their magic determining factor to exact this! 😊
BTW, I have the same issues making old fashioned fudge. Once I get the exact science for one, it will apply to both. In case you make fudge too.

you dont really need a candy thermometer, Just make sure you let it come to a rolling boil and continue stirring, until it get a little thicker, you can put about 1/2 tsp. on a small dish if it set you'll know it's ready.
