Dennis Smith Jr. was out of the league last season at just 24 years old after being a lottery picks a few years before. He thought about trying out for the NFL before the Hornets offered him a 1 year deal to be a backup. Now he’s starting and making an impact but his journey to reviving his career is the most inspiring story in the league this year.

Hats off to DSJ having the mental fortitude to go through all these injuries while no team wanted him and continuing to put in the work like that. Truly deserved :)
When you have a passion for something it’s hard to “quit”
Yea I probably woulda filded
He's injury prone because he's not putting the work in.
@@chuckdeuces911 that makes 0 sense. there's no way u can change the way ur joints are made lmao no matter how hard you work a person born with glass bones and joints will always have glass bones and joints.
2 ACLs in one knee? No wonder he athletic af
Lol every time he tears his ACL he sprouts two more ACLs
@@gorillajoe999 Like a lizard tail or something!??
No fr that’s crazy
I've never heard anything like that. No wonder man was dunking the ball at 10yo
jabari parker moment
I'm happy for him. As a Mavs fan, I'm sad things didn't work out for him but I hope he can continue to have a role in the league going forward
As a Knicks fan I’m happy he’s getting his redemption arc
I've still got his rookie year jersey, I'll always remember his time on the Mavs
Mavs fan here too. Rick did him so dirty. I'm glad he's turning it around, he didn't deserve that.
@@bandjolyn he definitely didnt
@@marvdatboi as a Knicks fan Dennis probably don't want yo support ALL PERSONAL 💀
As a Knick fan, very very happy to see him succeed. David Fizdale was the king of destroying players' development and the fact our fans chanted for Frank Ntilikina over him was just rude. Deserves the success.
Honestly don’t agree with the fizdale comment 🤔 I don’t think that guy ever really had a chance to succeed. Ppl take fizdale so they can tank. That it self won’t make a coach career worthy.
No u not😂😂😂😂
@@orbitprodutions You tank because you want to develop young players, which Fizdale was AWFUL at. Literally every player Memphis and New York drafted under him turned into total garbage with exception to Mitchell Robinson.
Tell that to Rick Carlisle. He was the start of ruining DSJ’s career. The young man can damn well ball.
I have never heard of a David Fizdale hater lmao you got be some new kind of clown 😆 Im weak you said he destroyed players development lol youtube need to ban you for being ridiculous and lame.
He was my favorite high school player, college player, and ended up on my hometown team the Mavs. I met him at the North park mall here in Dallas and got a pic with him, super cool dude. I’m a mavs fan but I’m a DSJ fan as well I hope he has a long healthy career
Slime ball move by Rick Carlisle. Who should be above that kind of stuff....
That's so awesome bro... Stories like this really make me happy. Getting a second chance to prove yourself in your hometown team is crazy.. I hope his career only shines from now on🔥🔥
What a feel good story. He really deserves the comeback.
#MisterDSJ💪🏾👊🏾🏀💯
This is so awesome man, I been rooting for him since the draft, glad he seems to of found a home 🏡
It's great to see a player getting that 2nd chance and making really good use it, hopefully he can finish this season healthy and get a multi-year contract next offseason.
✨🙏🏾✨💯
Good for him. I liked him in Portland and think he would have stuck if he didn't get hurt. Hopefully he has finally found a home. Talent has always been there.
That's quite a story. It seemed as if it would be an easier road for him than it's turned out to be. I hope he can stay healthy.
He wasn’t traded to portland. He was a FA when he went to the blazers last season and was hurt when he came in and gave it his all till they needed his slot to continue the tank.
Let this be a lesson to all you kids out there. Stay ready so you don't have to get ready. This wasn't luck. This was preparation meeting opportunity. DSJ has been a joy to watch since he was 15 and im so proud of dude
I didn't know he tried out for the NFL that's incredible I'm glad someone is giving him a shot he is talented
Didn't even know any of this
I wish him well
Love a good comeback story 💯
You probably hated him too
Shout out to him and his Dad … coached him at five star camp in Charlotte!! He’s just different ever since 8th grade! 👀💯
I liked him on the Mavs & always wanted him to succeed. I wish nothing but the best for D.S.J.
Been watching him since hs, him and lonzo were the ones I wanted to see succeed the most so this is heart warming
We love DSJ in Dallas. Would have loved to pick him back up this past summer.
Hornets are Better than Dallas . Lamelo is better than that traveling bum Luka
@@torresthemonster guess crack is better in charlotte too
Knicks fan here... super happy for DSJ.
Us Knicks fans really did a number on him... was sad to see. Awesome comeback! Hope he remains healthy and successful
I've watched him since highschool. Happy for him, I've always expected good things from him
Look at Dennis man so inspirational
I hope he makes it, i forgot this dude was even in the nba, i remember really liking him his first 2 years
I felt bad bc I lived in North Carolina in the Triangle where UNC, Duke and NC State are and the hype for DSJ was as if he was at UNC or Duke
Dennis looks like he’s just having fun man , that’s awesome .
Mental fortitude and people from these lows are very likable and humble. Kudos to him and D. Rose.
Glad he knew he had to put the work in. Now I want to see him get comeback player of the year recongnition from the NBA. Everyone knows he has talent. He biggest problem was not his game... it was his confidence. Teams did a terrible job with DSJ and it almost destroyed him. I'm glad to see him doing well
I'm a die hard Knick fan. I always wanted him to succeed. I am glad he is doing it
I'm so happy for him. He was my favorite player in that draft class.
hes playing so well for us. i hope he stays getting a lot of minutes when Lamelo and Terry come back
He was one of my favorite players when he was with the mavs and I thought he would've made a great backup pg. I'm glad he's back in the league
Good for Dennis never gave up ✊🏽
This world can be very toxic sometimes, I’m glad he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves. Also great video, keep up the good work 👌💯
Love his story hope he could keep the consistency and get better chances
“Dennis Smith Jr stay solid my 🥷🏾”- J Cole
Hoping Dennis can fit the 6th man role when Lamelo and rosier are back 🔥 loving the defensive effort
I mean he's starting now so coming off the bench is no problem. What do you mean?
This is wonderful to see. Good luck to him! 🙏🏾
I hope he stays healthy and balls out the rest of his career.
Always loved his game , wish him the best
I’m cheering for you!!! Stay Up!!! When you’re on the floor play on or play the angles!!!🏀🔥🏀🔥🏀🔥
Inspiration is amazing
Dennis Smith jr. still has the illest high school mixtape ever. He belongs in the NBA
And not to pile on you know who...but some players actually really want to play and succeed. Seeing this makes it that much clearer, injuries happen but determination + opportunity = good things mostly. Gd video man!
I didnt even realize he was playing. I was watching the highlights of the hornets v warriors game, and i heard the announcer say "Smith Jr" Then, i heard them say it again, when he hit the game winner. I was thinking: "Dennis Smith Jr?" FREAKIN AWESOME! Im def rooting for his success.
I get confused to because there's another Smith Jr in the league now
NCST fan I Wished DSJ stayed n school to develop an all round game which would've matured him physically an mentally.. kudos on him not giving up....
Wow, didn't know it. Great story. Deserves the best. Not many people try to even consider getting along with their competition. Mostly they either want to put them down or don't care about them. But to try to help them feel comfortable in another continent while it cost you you're starting position if it helps him to play better, that's incredible, not many would try to help someone so that you can build chemistry and mash together well. Hope he has a long and happy career and life.
I'm a day late but man, the research into making your videos are incredible. Keep showing us your best bro 💯
I am from Dallas and I always loved smith jr!! He can ball and is athletic and if he can shoot the 3 ball he gonna be something to watch out for.
I'm proud of/happy for DSJ!!! He never gave up and kept working hard!!! He knew his worth and where he belongs. 💪💪💪
Dennis Smith Jr. Is a good role player, he will never be a All-Star or anything, but I'm always happy to see a player like Smith Jr. to have a come back season. Hopefully Dennis Smith Jr. keeps this up.
Bravo 👏🏾 Dennis!!! Don't Give up!!! Thanks 👍🏾 for That Information ☺️,My Prayers 🙏🏾are with Him;!!
I’m so happy for him. Such an inspiring story!
BRO WAS A BEAST AT ONLY 10!! the first time I could dunk was so late at 14! MY GUYS GOT HOPS
😂 you think you late I’m 30 and still only barely get rim and can’t dunk 😂💪🏾
@@TheseNutts2 lol height can also play a huge role into this as well. I was 6'2 when I got my first dunk
@@manmeet4804 😂 definitely man definitely!!!😂
I’m pulling for this kid. As a long suffering Knicks fan, he didn’t get a fair shot anywhere. His story will be a movie someday. The kid has a heart of a lion.
This video almost made me cry fr💯 love his determination
I'm really glad to see my guy Dennis getting back on track. Rick Carlisle did him dirty and the stuff he went through in New York was pretty terrible. Wish him all the best and I wouldn't mind seeing him come back to Dallas. Him, Luka, and Dorian were really good friends.
Players like bol bol Dennis smith always looked upon until they get a real chance (Ik Dennis smith had many chances but now look what he’s doing as the starting pg behind melo of course)
Happy for DSJ. Rooting for you!
I am happy someone of your caliber on the Tube put together this video.
He is one of the reason why I won the fantasy in his rookie year. I drafted him, donovan and simmons. Then this season's fantasy I pick him up in the waiver. So lucky man.
I love this for him! Never give up kids put the work in and anything is possible
I’ve been said he’s on a come up. Perfect example on why you don’t give up.
As a mavs fan I always appreciated his knack for making big plays when it counted
Man I wish he was still a Mav tbh, it just didn’t work out but I’m happy he didn’t give during the tough times.
Great news! No one ever doubted Smith's athleticism. I'm pretty sure he's top 3-5 EVER in the vertical leap at the NBA combine. You're right that what team a player is drafted to is an underrated factor. Plus, it takes some good players a little extra time to figure out the NBA game. I hope Smith plays his way into a nice-sized bag.
I liked him when he was in Detroit. He was always all over stat sheet making plays
always been fan of him since middle school hoops lol bro deserves this. God always right on time.
just heard for first time. love your passion and facts!
I love a good comeback story
That added weight helps him out a lot. He’s a strong point guard.
This is a breath of fresh air. I will be honest, I actually teared up a little. Don't know the young man or anything like that, but love stories like these
Love seeing this type of content great comeback story happy to see him flourishing
Always been a fan of his...glad he's making another go of it
He deserves come back, I'm NYK fan, jelous we had bad time with him ...
It’s cool to see someone with so much potential come back from that
Been a huge fan of Dennis since he was in highschool. we knew this was coming
Thanks bro, needed this.
Finally a team that he can call home. He just play to his comfort and he will do just right.
So very happy for Dennis!
amazing to see dsj back on track, though im interested in seeing him play db in the nfl
Not to mention he was dealing with the death of his mom, along with the injuries….but I’m happy to see my family back on the biggest stage…where He BELONGS‼️ #SmithStrong
Good for you bro. Resilient dude. He can play football too. Baller!
I’m happy for my boy he deserves it he worked for it
Mavs fan here. Most national media goes the lazy route and says that DSJ was jealous of Luka. Thanks for getting right with the issue really being with Carlisle.
Let's be real Dennis Smith Jr was killing it in Dallas, but Luka came and he was pushed aside so Luka could shine which caused friction which is why most solid Point Guards leave Dallas as soon as they can. Dennis was always dope
Luka was going to shine regardless, he was the better player lmao .
@@samsquanch1234 In all honesty Luka has more star power and skills, but that is because the offense is tailor made for him. Luka is good, but he doesn't take care of his body which is why he gets chubby from time to time and is why he lacks athleticism. Alot of times guys have to stand around and watch Luka go 1 on 1 and at the last second he will pass the ball forcing teammate to have to score. Also Luka plays zero defense which messes up defensive rotation which is why guys would rather take a pay cut or be out of tge league to get out of Dallas. Luka is good but with the way he plays will he ever get a championship ring... Probably not. With Dennis Smith Jr. as your PG with the right pieces around him your chances of winning go up he plays tough defense and distributes the ball doesn't waste the whole 24 second shot clock
That was good to see yo,keep it up young man .💪🏾💖👍🏿
Awesome comeback story. Thanks for sharing. Another reason to believe Knicks fans are at the bottom of the food chain...
Hey, screw you.
Glad to see him succeed.👍🏾
Being from Fayetteville and watching him grow up.....we all still route for him.....but he needs to develop a jumper
What a way to put this into words. wonderful
GOOD ON YOU for making this kind of redemption story video. Alot of RUclipsr's (MattBeGreat) like to dog out NBA Players that might have had issues and didnt become Steph Curry and fell out of the league for Clickbait, but you.. You actually made a good video, and for that reason alone. Subbed!
love this video man. iono whats in the water but ur videos lately just feel... just feel better n more authentic
i’m PRAYING that rolled ankle last night isn’t serious, he’s been clutch this week in fantasy. DAWG STATUS
Love to see he's back... The Mavs under Rick Carlisle was damaging but he's got the chance to make a run
You should be on ESPN covering the next Hornets game. This is awesome
Dennis Smith Jr. Stay Solid my Ninja 🥷🏿 - Cole
you definitely have a knack for making videos/being a media personality. keep up the good work.
DSJ my dude, he just needed some development, pissed when the Pistons let him go, good him, hope he secure the bag
been a fan. glad to see hes doing it with my fav team
my man from Fayetteville....rooting for the guy
