Austin Reaves is getting MVP chants while playing with LeBron James but he started out as a little recruited high school player in a small town. Reaves has been key to the Lakers making a playoff push but how did he get this far despite scouts thinking he was not an NBA talent?

I love how Austin Reaves plays with such finesse and precision, he's a true master of his craft.
He is not that athletic but he can he can do other things on the court like inside finishing floaters and shooting threes
I never heard about race so much till the last few years 😅 it's literally multiple times a day now, crazy stuff. What happened to it's about what you do, not what you look like?
That’s because white people are under attack from progressive ideology. You can literally be blatantly racist against white people on national TV and it is acceptable. But say the exact same thing With a white person talking about Black people and all of a sudden the whole world is in uproar. Everyone wants to end racism but nobody talks about the racism towards white people.

Austin Reeves is really the only consistent player alongside lebron. Austin is smart and makes the right play. The guy leaves it all on the floor
Agreed. For example, Malik Beasley is a great shooter, but he'll have two or three off nights for every game he balled.

The only Laker who was more efficient against the Bulls was Anthony Davis. 🏀
As a Lakers fan, I do agree that Reaves got more attention, partly, because he's white. Same thing that happened with Caruso. But the thing is...he's on the Lakers, the biggest franchise in the NBA. Him and Caruso were massive underdogs and had very little expectations on the team, yet not only did they exceed those expectations, they thrived and have created incredible value behind their names.
And yeah, you're completely right: literally any other race playing all star basketball in the NBA is going garner attention because of how much of an oddity it is. It's just human nature.

Austin reeves is just balling, he’s playing confidently and competitively on a lakers squad that’s been in shambles till Westbrook departure. Reeves is a player who’s cemented a roll on the lakers as a player who makes the right plays and can get you 18-5-5 on a nightly basis. He’s going to very important for the lakers moving forward this postseason(most likely cmon lebrons back) and the next season where they will most likely try to keep it together and make a title run.

Never really got to reeves play when he first got to the lakers because of all the superstars on the team. I’m glad this coach gave him a chance to showcase his potential.
Austin Reeves makes the right play every time. Early in the season, I said Austin should have been getting more playing time. You need a guy who will get you some rebounds, score some points, play some d, pass the ball, and not turn the ball over.
I have a thing for non-point guards who can really pass. Think Jokic, Sabonis, Draymond. Reaves sees the game so well, he could be in that company one day.

people are forgetting the most like obvious part of both Caruso and now Reaves. They were literally the youngest players on their teams and both were undrafted. Both played along with LeBron as the only non-vet players on their teams and excelled in their roles and opportunities. Does it have to do with their skin color? Probably. But I personally think it has a lot more to do with them being undrafted, and young on an "old" team. In this sport tho, skin color goes both ways, they'll think you're garbage because you're white, or they think you're overrated because you're white.

Lakers fans have a tendency to hype up mid but Reeves has crazy game sense for someone with his experience level, I hope he balls out in the playoffs at some point to silence the doubters
Came back to this today... He has proven to be on one of the most value contracts in the NBA. He might never be an all-star, but he is exactly the type of player the all-stars want surrounding them. Good explanation of the "race" question in that part of it is genuinely a novelty (what a perfect explanation). He also makes kids from small towns feel like "you never know... Look at Austin Reaves..." because it is so rare for a farmer boy to be an NBA starter.

Being from FLA and a HEAT 🔥 fan I don't watch too much Western Conference ball,,,I jokingly say Lakers n LeBron are my #2 team and West Coast team (I like LeBron since he was on Heat and won 2 titles in 305 plus he is Awesome) But I never even knew about Reaves till the playoffs started and now this great video !! I'm a new fan of Austin Reaves now !!!
It's not about being White. The Lakers had a few White players on the bench who only saw a few seconds play time the whole season. Reaves proved himself. I saw him at practice and his 3 pt shooting was perfect almost all the time, unlike his game time shooting.

If you go down the list of the top 10 teams in free throw attempts per game, every team on that list is outside the top 10 in opponent free throw attempts per game, except the LAKERS who are first.
If you don’t believe they are manipulating the outcomes of games, I recommend you watch a few Lakers games with a critical eye towards fair refereeing. You will never be able
to watch an NBA game the same again.
If you can’t be bothered to watch a game, then I recommend you at least look at the stats which referees determine, such as the two listed above. There a quite a few. What you will find is that the Lakers are at least top 5 in every single one. No other team is anywhere close to being even top 20 in every stat category determined by refs. Technical fouls, 3 in the keys, offensive fouls, Opponent offensive fouls, etc.
When you’re done doing one of the above I want you to remember something. These are categories which in the past have predominantly been lead by teams which are either great or have great coaches. The Lakers on the other hand have a first year coach, and a bunch of young players and castaways for most the season.They were a notch above an awful team at best performance wise.
The Lakers probably had at least 10 wins handed to them this season and should be a bottom 7 team in the standings. There was even one game they had 31 free throws to the opponents 6. They won that game by 1 point. I truly feel bad for the Pelicans, who will get the worst end of a crappy stick that most of the whole league drew.

Think about it they basically dumped the roster they had last season and kept Reaves beside AD & Lebron, plus his stats on/off the court with AD & Lebron is very good and it shows on the court, even Lebron has been advocated for him since last season and you know Lebron is with rookies, so they must have seen his potential and hustle.
At this point there is way too much bias against him. He is very good and it is insane that he was overlooked in the draft. I hope it benefits him when it comes to contract time. And I hope Jeanie doesn’t trade him away as well! 🙏🏿
