Phoenix homeowner takes on porch pirate

- It's that time of year when we see an almost endless stream of package thieves. Now, one suspected porch pirate is facing charges thanks to a homeowner who took a stand. Along the way, that homeowner had to endure mace, and a chase -- and it all ended with a crash.

Had a similar incident with a POS trying to break into my back shed @ 9am
I didn't hit him with my 2ft' Snap-on prybar, he chose to run into me while i was holding it and it got between me and him in a struggle that lasted several seconds which resulted in the substantial bruising the suspect now displays in various locations over his entire body.
@@maxnaz47 I usually use my .38 as a prybar in that situation. It's way better to kill the thief\intruder\bad guy than to struggle with him. Shoot first ask questions later.

That porch pirate should be charged for using mace (assault and battery), attempted robbery, illegal use and possession of mace, evading arrest, and for the other robberies he committed as attested to by the neighbors. The man who arrested the robber should be given a medal.
Arizona cannot afford medals. Possibly Gold Medal

He WAS awarded a medal but due to Covid it was shipped to his home and was stolen off the porch before he got home. Bummer.

If this happened in another state, the porch pirate would have sued home owner, won court case and would be hailed as a 'victim' from the, "you shouldn't judge someone, you never know what they're going through" gang.
Even after getting chased down by his maced victim, the bad guy has the stones to act angry and aggressive toward him. This kind of brazen criminality won't get fixed by anything less than physically blocking the person from reoffending. Since laws and jails are no longer getting used to serve this function, other actions will need to get taken. The social contract is broken so badly that only harsh unrepentant methods will fix it at this point.

A thirty year-old bicycle-riding thief. I wonder if he files a tax return? Oh, yeah, he's the guy who gets the refund.
FYI, you only get a refund if your tax withholdings are too high. Ideally you want your tax withholdings at a level that you don't receive a refund, and don't owe any money. The people that have more money taken from their check for the whole year, but come in at a lower tax bracket get their money back. It's not free money, it's your money that you gave too much to the government. If you get a nice big refund at the end of the year, that just means your paychecks were smaller than they could've been. Alternatively you could set your withholdings to 0% and keep your entire paycheck, but come tax time you will owe all taxes because none were taken from your checks. Speak with your employer to lower your withholdings if you get big returns. I'd rather have my money now than have it returned back to me later.
